The brake test is highly inaccurate given that you count and then stop. Sound takes time to travel through the walkie talkie and be processed by the receiver, then they act on the countdown. @@vasil7410 yes forgot to mention it. The carbon ceramics help it to attain a higher top speed. Because you need stronger brakes to come to stop at a higher top speed.
@@TB-vb3ov This is misinformation. The 163 mph is simply a hard software limit by Tesla since the car does not have the Track Package from Tesla, which uses tires rated for higher speeds as well as carbon ceramic brakes for improved stopping. With the Track Pack installed, the software unlocks the full top speed to 200 mph. On top of that, the Plaid motor is less sensitive to voltage, so it doesn't matter much with lower SoC. The flat power rating comes from using a different magnetic laminate design internal to the motor as well as carbon overwrapping to minimize the rotor-stator gap, which lowers the back EMF of the motor. This allows it to maintain a linear power curve up to about 18,000 rpm.

The Plaid has beaten other 1000+ hp petrol cars relatively easily due to the instant and flat torque curve of the EV motors as well as no need to shift along with superior traction control offered by electric motors. So the fact that hat this 1000 hp M3 did this well is hugely impressive.
Keep in mind the weight, and although its very benificial that ev's don't need gears, they do allow for more low end torque and higher top speed, with the downside of having to shift and work into the powerband. But the main pro is that the tesla is able to do that stock, while the M3 needs special fuel and huge mods which will compromise its reliability. M3 was very impressive but still i wouldn't buy a gas car for the speed, but for the engaging driving experience. Ev's are also egaging but while gas is engaging with the car, ev's are engaging with the road.
Go look up M Powerhouse or M Life, they literally have an M3 with just downpipe and tune (less than $5000 worth of mods) running 9 second quarter miles. No need to feel all insecure about the truth 🥲 a stock xDrive is already running 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and quarter mile in 11.0s and some journalists even getting 10.9... if that's stock numbers not really hard to believe that adding a downpipe and tune can take the car to high 9s
When doing your tests with the model s plaid try and do it with the track package from here on out👍 this way you can get some good 1/4 and even 1/2 mile runs in with other cars
The M3 needs “special sauce” and I don’t know, with so many moving tuned parts, if it holds many powerful starts before breaking something. For a Tesla, that is kind of normal, for a modified car like the M3…luck is kind of important.
@ricarmig The Tesla requires 19 minutes just to load up. Plus, there are hundreds of thousands of parts in it, which means the M3 will hold more powerful starts for longer. Plus, it will be faster as well. The Tesla could not even run a 9.7 initially while the M3 could. It is consistent.
They are not. This BMW stands no chance. It has similar power. But LOOK AT THE WEIGHT DIFFERENCE. Put an electric drive train on a lightweight platform. And it's over. Not even a contest.
What was the Plaids SOC that it only managed 9.7s???? Also, if the Plaid has been driving for at least 15 minutes (when cold out), it will already be at near perfect battery temperature. It must have sat for a long time not driving when it said 19 minutes to go.
It definitely doesn't win! ICE have significantly way higher top speeds compared to EVs! Even the Rimac with almost 2000hp has way less top speed than a 1500hp buggati Chiron lol!!
Spend $20.000 on the Model S Plaid track pack and you have a 200 mph car with (finally) really good brakes and a 150,000 mile battery and powertrain warranty. This car traps at 180 mph in the half mile. This BMW would lose in the half and quarter.

Would be cool to see a track pack Plaid re-race. Also would be helpful to know what the state of charge is on the Plaid, even though it shouldn't make too much difference if it's above 50%.
Top end it matters quite a bit under 70%. The top end being 163mph is why it lost half mile race and why he lost by a few cars in the roll race.
Track pack only gets carbon ceramic brakes. No increase in hp or torque
@@spamansh1710And also an increase in top speed. The normal Plaid hit its top speed before the end of each race.

Bullshit!!! The tesla is just a one pony trick 0-60! Very few people actually experiences the speeds of buggati which are well over 400kmh which no EV can even reach whatsoever! Let alone the super old ninja Kawasaki h2r which is not road legal for example.
@@adrenalinejunkie3828"only 200mph" 😂
@@alanmay7929 Incase you didn't notice there was another car in this race
@@adrenalinejunkie3828 Remind us what the price for the Mclaren was? Where are you going to be doing those kind of speeds of over 250mph? Most race tracks don't have straights that long and you sure as hell won't be doing it on public roads. So point still stands- for most track days you can experience the same performance for a fraction of the price
Seriously you should take advantage of all the negative press on EVs and buy a nearly new model 3 performance for £32k. Insane value for money!
No way a tuned m3 wins…literally a Chiron pur sport lost to the plaid on Hagerty
Nope. The chiron beat the plaid by a smidge and lost to the lucid
@@davidkato1150just look up the factory times, only the recently released $4M super sport barely beats the Plaid, all other Chirons lose.
@@P10634 you realize both cars did a 9.3 second quarter mile right?
Plaid was at like 20% soc here 😂
M3 absolutely smashed it. From any type of roll that tesla stood no chance. Had nothing to do with track pack or no track pack from beginning to end it was leaps and bounds ahead. Crazy on a wet surface too
The BMW M3 is a dream. Thank you for the competition.
that m3 is just epic damm///
How is this a fair race. A individually adapted supped up BMW (with super fuel you cant buy on the street) against an off the shelf Tesla. Come back with a standard BMW M3 Comp and race them again. Good video though.
@@thescallytrader Shows that in reality for those who need it this is nothing more than marketing almost any M5, M3, M4 are already capable of easily defeating the Platinum at any distance having more than 950 hp and sometimes 900 hp in the case of the M340i
I just loooove the Plaid. BMW isn’t bad either
Great Dragrace ! Thank you for the entertainment !
both sick .but wondering how much for M3 1000hp tune up packages? the car itself it's t cheap to begin with .
I owned a model Y n a supercharged S2000 , S2000 cost more ,n much more to maintain
The Tesla didn't have the track package, so it could have gone much faster and braked better!
Not true. The regular tesla model s plaid posted a 7:35 .. the taycan turbo s posted a 7:33 .. porsche beat the plaid when both used street tires . tesla "Track pack" cheated it had to use track tire semi slicks (GoodYear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3Rs) that are only used for track times not for street use to beat the porsche taycan, panamera turbo s, m5cs,m3cs, and some other 4 door sedans that all used STREET TIRES. The tesla plaid has 1,000hp and the other cars i named have 400hp less then the plaid. Yet when they all used street tires those cars beat it. The semi slicks on the track pack plaid alone shaves off 10-15 sec. The track pack then posted a 7:25
Think how embarrassing that is that a car with 1000hp couldn't beat a 400hp less taycan. BMW/Porsche design and handling is on another planet. The track pack plaid doesn't use road legal tires.
@@G82Watts Geez man, those tires on track pack Plaid are road legal outside of Europe so there's absolutely no cheating and considering that Tesla did this result by software, brakes and tires its completely insane. By sticking in an actual performance suspension and increasing the cooling capacity to sacrifice front trunk which they can easily do (also increasing price to 200k because why not, people actually buy those toyish Porsches), it would completely wipe the floor with anything else in the same class on the Ring for the next 5 years AND with 150k mile warranty. Competition was out when the Ludicrous model S came out
@@lukabosnjak3829 those tires are illegal for road use in Germany and many other countries. No production car comes with the tires, ever. Tesla only got away with it because they made a "Track pack" only version. " RacingForALS goodyear eagle f1 supercar 3r review" go watch that and he explicitly says they increase track times and are only used for that because the ride on the streets is extremely terrible. If u gave those some tires to the other sedans that beat the regular model s plaid they would post 10 sec better times aswell. Even the m3 TOURING beat the regular model s plaid around the track. It's all good bro keep crying and defending ur boring one trick poney car that turns no heads and isn't special to see or be inside. Dull and plain jane. Also "YOUCAR" posted a vid of the new taycan with porsche first ever tri motor doing a 7:07 around nurumbring and it hit a higher speed then the tesla track pack. That's 2 seconds slower then the 1800hp rimac nevera..porsche always does more with less. That's why tesla had to add an entire other motor just to be faster in a straight line then the dual motor taycan. Too this day porsche created the fastest dual motor ev ever so just imagine what happens when they even the playing field. Also porsche cost more becuase they don't look like old man blob cars and actually have LUXURY.
@@lukabosnjak3829 Teslas are a poor mans quick car. It speaks volumes about the experience and driving engagement a real sports car brings u that an EV can NEVER. Ive been inside a tesla and is just doesnt feel like ur in something special. Its so dull and plain jane. It has no luxury. My buddy lets me drive his targa gts porsche time to time and oh my god, bro. The engine. The revs the downshifts. All the people checking out the car. Its insane. The noise alone is what makes me want to drive it over and over again. Best way to describe it is. Speeding in a tesla is like having sex with earplugs in. Only ur body feels it.( Except for the terrible wind noise in the cabin from poor sound isolation.) Real sports cars hit and fill ur entire senses. The rumbling of the engine the visceral special occasion it feels like everytime ur in it. Cant be matched. Theres a reason no youtuber that's loaded gets a tesla .. no rappers no athletes .. hell even type in "only fans girls car" girls w $ don't even like tesla. It's just for average Joe's to finally feel like hot shit on the road.

The Tesla acceleration is insane - a family car wins
m3 counts as a family car too you know?
M3 is a family car aswell. And someone actually wants to buy those g80's after few years. Who wants to buy over 5 year old ev's? Not a wise man lol. They will be in a junkyard after 8 years (battery warranty ends)
The M3 is also a family car
