My guess is alsl you need to shortshift that C8 at like 6k instead of revving it. You need to look at the power/torque curve, you re just losing power. Also that Vette is sick being the cheapest of the bunch.
Another question, why do you only race over the 1/2 mile now instead of the mile? Have the land owners put restrictions on you achieving those speeds or is it a contractual limitation with carwow or the owners of the cars on insurance? I'd like to know why it's changed if possible.
just remembering that this C8 in the video is the slowest of all for a few reasons. it's convertible, so it weighs about 80lbs more than the C8 coupe. this one tested is the european version which has 13hp less. and the Z51 package has the drag coefficient of 0.39 and without the Z51 package it is 0.32 so on a base Coupe the time is around 11.2
Remember power to weight ratio is the key for these tests, the 911 is a bit over 3,100 lbs in that configuration, corvette 3,700 and R8 3,700 to 3,900 lbs makes a difference its like putting 3 adults the car.....
Ah yes… because a Lamborghini engine definitely should race against a base model Porsche at half the price. The C8 and Porsche are $10-11k different. Pick a turbo for the R8 then see what happens. Turbo s for the R8 v10+
@@Yinyang1277 I think you’re confusing the regular V10 to the AWD V10 plus (there regular RWD R8 V10 is shown in this vid which is not double the price of the base 911)

Porsches always produce 30 to 60 crank hp more than advertized, and they are rear engined so there is MUCH less drivetrain loss. Also, the PDK transmission doesn't hurt. That said, if Matt used the paddles on the corvette manually, the vette would've performed quite a bit better. Chevrolet has always made the corvette quicker if you shift the gears yourself even with the dual clutch and 'automatics'.
@@aaronvector4750 they don’t advertise that much lower than reality, atleast for NA cars. c8 is also rear/mid engined so power loss isn’t a legit factor. Pdk is better obviously but vette still has a dct too so it’s not far off. And paddles def don’t make it faster. It’s pretty commonly known that unless you’re going around a track, the trans knows when to shift better than you
@@aaronvector4750 How do you 'know' Porsche have between 30 and 60 more crank horsepower? You don't and that's wild supposition on your part with nothing to back it up. There's no way flipping the paddles would be quicker with that transmission, not a prayer. As for the Porsche having far less power loss through the shorter transmission that's mostly pure fallacy. It may be shorter but it's still got to throw the power 90 degrees from the engine which is the main reason for driven losses anyway, that and frictional losses through the gear sets especially where helical gears are concerned.
Those engines are as much about a nice powerband / low end torque for street, and that lovely NA throttle response as they are about peak power figures. The engine is also a lot lighter than the other two.
The Porsche is just as fast as the Corvette with an engine half the size and a quarter less power. Sorry but this is once again the perfect example of German engineering. Perfection.
I'm guessing that the Porsche has a higher rev limiter and stays in the power longer than the C8 because of gearing. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine the weight difference between the two affects the performance this much. (also aero, but still.)
Aerodynamics play a role. It's not just about the drag coefficient (which i suppose will be better with the more smooth porsche shape) but also the cross section area. The corvette is pretty wide and for sure has a bigger cross section as the 911. Still, all considered the 100 hp difference schould still have been visible in the races. Also there's an often unexpected reason why cars of Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes occasionally are dynoed with quite more power than they officially should have. -> When the dyno crews are not aware that the engine software already compensates for sea level and temperature, and so they let the dyno software compensate for that. -> double compensation when in actual fact the car only produced what it's supposed to. (Sure the compensation of the engine software has it's limits, so if you live in mexico city, they won't make the power it has on paper...) Read about the issue years ago from a german car magazine which had the same issue at first.
Corvettes were always a cheap, powerful workhorse. It’s why they sell so well. It’s a more affordable performance car that can beat a lot of cars that cost significantly more. Although, I have a feeling that Porsche engineers focus on everything but the engine power, while the Corvette takes an old-fashioned approach with a bigger engine and more gears.
What about the times American shitboxes beat German and European cars on the dragstrip and on the 'Ring? An old Saleen S7 would smoke every 911 except maybe the GT2 and GT3 or Turbo S off the line.
This American is smart enough to know that you never underestimate German horsepower! I was rooting for the Porsche the whole time, but that R8 is super impressive! And I think it’s very cool that a company known for superior all-wheel-drive systems would revert to a rear wheel drive only platform. Give the people what they want…
That's what happens when the C8 gets compared to its recent competitors. I also wrote that the C8 barely beats the 911 Carrera in the drag race in Speciale vs C8 video.
Porsche sells worldwide and their customer with difficult environment like high altitude (eg Swiss alps) or erxtreme heat (eg Dubai, or Saudi Arabia) also want that the cars have the power as promised, so there is a reserve between the specs and real performance in "normal" environment. ua-cam.com/video/DNUUx1IvVw4/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/cSA0EN1eSNo/v-deo.html
Few things to take into account here. That 911 (base) doesn't have sports chrono pack which actually makes it launch faster and also includes sports + mode so I think that would of made quite a difference. It starts at 87k but we are talking with literally no spec. The C8 is 77k and is pretty much fully decked out. Most of the extra cost comes from cosmetic items and a few mech stuff like front axle lift etc. In order to get the 911 up to the C8 spec it would likely take another 10/12k minimum.
@@Raven77844 It does mate. 77k is for the 2LT spec coupe and 80k is the 3LT spec. All in UK pounds. I'm just saying at 80k the equipment level is ridiculously high. Lot of things are included in the trim level 2LT or 3LT. Unlike Porsche where you have to spec literally every little thing. I have a 911 base on order with around 15k of spec. I got sick of waiting so called the only official Corvette dealer in the UK to ask about C8 waiting time. I was told middle of 2024 if I'm lucky. To bypass the soft limiter on most of them, after your vehicle is warmed up, put your drivetrain in neutral (instead of Park), that will usually allow you to rev to full RPM.

just remembering that this C8 in the video is the slowest of all for a few reasons. it's convertible, so it weighs about 80lbs more than the C8 coupe. this one tested is the european version which has 13hp less. and the Z51 package has the drag coefficient of 0.39 and without the Z51 package it is 0.32 so on a base Coupe the time is around 11.2

Corvette cheaper and quickest
Porsches understatement in how much power the cars have is awesome
2:03 sounds like my girl friends hair dryer 😆
Porsches always produce 30 to 60 crank hp more than advertized, and they are rear engined so there is MUCH less drivetrain loss. Also, the PDK transmission doesn't hurt. That said, if Matt used the paddles on the corvette manually, the vette would've performed quite a bit better. Chevrolet has always made the corvette quicker if you shift the gears yourself even with the dual clutch and 'automatics'.
Most of your comment is false lol
@@loweredyote8416 what parts of it is false?
@@aaronvector4750 they don’t advertise that much lower than reality, atleast for NA cars. c8 is also rear/mid engined so power loss isn’t a legit factor. It’s pretty commonly known that unless you’re going around a track, the trans knows when to shift better than you
@@skylined5534 responded to the wrong person. That’s the same argument I had
@@aaronvector4750
How do you 'know' Porsche have between 30 and 60 more crank horsepower? You don't and that's wild supposition on your part with nothing to back it up.
There's no way flipping the paddles would be quicker with that transmission, not a prayer.
As for the Porsche having far less power loss through the shorter transmission that's mostly pure fallacy.
It may be shorter but it's still got to throw the power 90 degrees from the engine which is the main reason for driven losses anyway, that and frictional losses through the gear sets especially where helical gears are concerned.
Surprising that a 6.2 liter V8 produces just about 480hp, 6.2liters is good for 750hp.
Its the entry level and NA. There will be more powerfull Versions later
yes yes if you want an engine with less longevity. Corvettes will be daily driven unlike a Ferrari n/a.
Those engines are as much about a nice powerband / low end torque for street, and that lovely NA throttle response as they are about peak power figures. The engine is also a lot lighter than the other two.
Can’t wait to see the z06 and zr1 and how they stack up! They’re gonna be beasts
The Porsche is just as fast as the Corvette with an engine half the size and a quarter less power.
Sorry but this is once again the perfect example of German engineering. Perfection.
Also an example of the benefits of turbocharging.
Excellent drag race as usual 🔥🔥🔥🔥👍
That v10 AWD AUDI Mat references is absolutely mental.
I'm guessing that the Porsche has a higher rev limiter and stays in the power longer than the C8 because of gearing. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine the weight difference between the two affects the performance this much.
(also aero, but still.)
it prolly has more power than porche say anyway
@@okbro10 nah that's an Audi thing Audi always under estimates the cars power
Or maybe because everything American is inflated
Euro version
Convertible
Z51
It's literally the slowest C8 on the market.
(Sure the compensation of the engine software has it's limits, so if you live in mexico city, they won't make the power it has on paper...)
Read about the issue years ago from a german car magazine which had the same issue at first.
Love these videos, brings out the immature child in me🤗
Fantastic channel 😁
Corvettes were always a cheap, powerful workhorse. It’s why they sell so well. It’s a more affordable performance car that can beat a lot of cars that cost significantly more. Although, I have a feeling that Porsche engineers focus on everything but the engine power, while the Corvette takes an old-fashioned approach with a bigger engine and more gears.
7:48 the face you make when you 'murican shitbox actually is worse than a high quality German car. Even with a couple less Horsepower
German horsepower is worth a lot more than American
What about the times American shitboxes beat German and European cars on the dragstrip and on the 'Ring? An old Saleen S7 would smoke every 911 except maybe the GT2 and GT3 or Turbo S off the line.

That's what happens when the C8 gets compared to its recent competitors. I also wrote that the C8 barely beats the 911 Carrera in the drag race in Speciale vs C8 video.
@Michael Charity You have this video to decide
Porsche always understates their numbers just to make them look better then what they actually are.
Porsche sells worldwide and their customer with difficult environment like high altitude (eg Swiss alps) or erxtreme heat (eg Dubai, or Saudi Arabia) also want that the cars have the power as promised, so there is a reserve between the specs and real performance in "normal" environment.

And don't forget the C8 is full of plastic that's why it's cheaper 😂😂😂
