Even 2-3 year later a sale would only be $100-$200. Monitors do not go down in price much. Check the PG278Q the TN version only goes on sale $50-$100 every now and then and that monitor is soo old. You are realistically looking at a used version.

    1) Have you thought about doing a monitor calibration guide? I think it would be really useful to your viewers.

Great review as always! I need advice though. Local store has an x34GS on sale but there is also a private sale 2yr old (still under warranty) x35 200hz with dedicated gsync-ultimate I can get for the same price!
I like that the x34gs seems to have faster input time and less input delay(I think) due to the panel being IPS? but I'm not sold on there being only gsync-C and possible ips glow. - I like that the x35 is VA with real HRD and BLACK blacks but then I'm worried about mouse pointer halo as I don't only play games but also do a bit of web design and photoshopping. *colour accuracy is not a selling point however.
Anyway, for fps games and a bit of work procrastination haha Which monitor would be the best? *Im swaying towards the x35 due to it being such a powerhouse monster - it also apparently doesnt have the fan ramping as it was a later release, I assume with the bios updated which seems to address that issue.
I currently have a very old x34a 100hz that is great but its time to upgrade as I just built a new gaming rig with a 3080ti etc.
Thanks for any help.. I would love to know your opinion :) Thanks for all the great reviews and info :)
So my question - X34GS or X35? :) heeeelp! thanx

Hi Tim, thanks for the test. For comparisons sake: I own a pg35vq and must admit that the overdrive mode "extreme" is unfortunately unusable with FALD enabled. In your review you said it´s the best mode for FALD on but in my opinion on my unit it has way too much overshoot. Only normal works ok with little overshoot but the black level smearing is quite noticeable. I would love to see those numbers in your new test suit but I guess you don´t have access to this monitor anymore ? To me it seems quite similar to the x35 numbers. Just now watching this, bored at work, months later.
I've had the X35 since it first sold in the US. Mine did have that fan ramping up and down problem, but that only lasted a month or so then it stopped.
As for overdrive, I find Normal with FALD enabled to be the best setting. Turning this to extreme with FALD results in major overshoot. It does essentially remove all ghosting, but I find this to be far more distracting than the ghosting.
As for color accuracy, out of the box it was pretty good. Perhaps yours got banged a couple times in delivery?
Only problem I have with mine is a manufacturing defect I noticed about 3 months after purchase. The plastic that borders the panel has a small, probably 3cm section on the very top bezel, that is raised a couple centimeters.
I'd like to see these monitors re-tested as several months after being put on sale, a firmware update was pushed out for everyone to download and install onto their monitors. Aside from what it aimed to correct (a flickering issue), it may have made other adjustments as well.
You can buy an X35 for $1800 or so now in the US on Amazon. Not too bad honestly, although I'd point people towards the C9 by Samsung before this, unless you really need that HDR1000.

First of all, great review! I don’t consider myself rich by any means, however I will invest (if able) in high quality/performing products. After doing countless hours of research, I decided to hold off on buying a gaming monitor. It seems there’s always a compromise on specs despite paying premium. I just feel like we’re not there yet. I also feel like CES 2020 was a letdown from the gaming monitor category, perhaps next year we will see more competitive products launch 🚀 . Really bummed as I want more screen real-state from the 27” I got now for both work and gaming lifestyle. Looking forward to more 38” ultra wide curved gaming monitor category with at least 1600p, 1ms response, HDR1000, G Sync and 166+ Hz. That’ll be my dream monitor 👍🏽

    • @cheytacsnipes

Don't mean to shit on your birthday, but this monitor would be a waste. In a year or 2 we will have way better solutions for HDR with less noticeable or not noticeable local dimming. Better off using that XB271HU for another year or two and then getting something actually worth the price. GtG is absolute shit on these too, so you get ugly ghosting. Or you turn on the overdrive and you get pretty bad inverse ghosting.
Unless you or your family is rich, this is a bad buy. Just buy some other nice things, and then in 2 years you get a super nice monitor.

@@cheytacsnipes I don't necessarily disagree with you, but i hate it when people say to wait for the better technology. There will literally ALWAYS be something better "just a couple years away". If you wait for perfect, you'll literally be waiting your entire life. I guarantee that the next generation of monitors will have their own issues, and people will be saying "just wait a couple years and those issues will be fixed".
I'd still be on my old, $500 overheating laptop if i kept telling myself to just wait for that next piece of technology that'll be better. At some point you have to decide whether you want to keep waiting, or just live life.

Just picked up my Acer X35 for $1,799 at microcenter - a solid $600 cheaper than the Asus PG35VQ and they're the same monitor. At $1,800 I could justify it, but at $2,400 I just couldn't hardly fathom spending that much more for the same monitor. Being 1DE off on greyscale color calibration compared to the PG35VQ is honestly semantics.

I would rather prefer a normal VA for HDR and casual gaming.
Monitors without proper full array dimming, micro led or oled cannot do proper HDR.
Thats why I am looking for OLED or IPS/VA only with FALD/microLED.
If I would have to go with no FALD/microLED OR OLED, then I would just prefer normal VA for media consumption and casual gaming.

Really good review, thanks for spending the time and making all those comparisons. When paying so much money for a monitor you should expect only the best.
It’s really funny though how all the famous reviewers like you, Linus Tech Tips, Pc Centric, The Tech Champ didn’t speak at all for the Flickering issues that both monitors suffer..
There are a lot of people already replaced 2 or even 3 units and still have Flickering...
There are many different videos in UA-cam uploaded showing the problem and even posts in different forums...One of the most famous at the momment in Acers community :
    community.acer.com/en/discussion/573868/x35-flickering-acer-x35-monitor/p6
There is no fix at the momment for this problem...They said it’s an Nvidia driver but even after 2 new driver releases the problem didn’t fix itself...
Just imagine paying 3000-3500$€£ and having that flickering problem...For that amount of money an employe from Acer or Asus should come in your house and install the monitor in your desk for you...
Anyway I can’t understand how non of you reviewers didn’t say a thing about that problem...Maybe the companies know this issue and send you good units and they sell the bad ones in the market...But honestly someone needs to addres this!!

It feels like they cut more corners on these 35inch models to increase margins, though 1440p uw 144hz 4:4:4 on a 2080 ti is a really good selling point, they might have pushed pricing too far. I asked friends who have the 27inch models and none of them have any interest in the 35inch models.
