I sold my old samsung 4k monitor, My note 4, and a few cell phones i got for cheap and got about $889 for all that paid the rest out of pocket for it and its totally worth it.
Had one for a few months now and it's an absolutely flawless piece of kit. Returning to 16:9 now is just out of the question and the benefits of such a display go beyond gaming and into productivity etc. I can safely say that, if you have the money and are willing to shell out the relatively extortionate price, do it. You won't be disappointed.
I went for the Z35 monitor myself. 2560 x 1080. 200Hz, Gsync. I've had no issues with it and personally I think it's awesome! The curve is insane! The reason I went for the Z35 was so my GTX980Ti could easily drive it. I don't find the PPI bad at all on it which is what I heard lots of people complaining about saying it would be too low. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the Z35 myself.
Have the Acer Predator XB271HU. Most of the features of this monitor and similar design. Went with that over the X34 because it's < 800$ and can be overclocked to 160Hz. I have zero regrets about buying it; but damned if the curve of the X34 isn't beautiful. Thanks for the review.
I like how all the reviewer get good monitors, but the consumer gets crap with massiv problems. Just look up the owners club on the overclock.net forum for this monitor.
DavidtheDuke This is coming from my personal experience, I returned 3 of these. And its not just Acer but Asus also. Its seem like they don't care about quality control nowadays. I'm sticking with my VG248QE for now.
+TheBitFox Thankfully I got an amazing one on my first order. Ive had my x34 since December and Its by far the most incredible monitor ive ever owned... Before I bought this I was running a 4k gsync monitor.
My favorite combo is the HD598 with a Cheapclip on mic. Easy headphones to drive, and mic quality is decent. BTW you are by far my favorite reviewer on youtube! keep this ish up
I got an almost flawless x34 Predator, only a little backlight bleed in the corners which is normal for IPS screens. It overclocks to 100 Hz no problem and got no dead pixels. I'm so happy with my decision to buy this beast of a screen :)
Zenx I'm not good at convincing people but I would say since I bought this monitor I think 16:9 aspect ratio is stupid. Ultra wide gives me an epic theatrical experience and 100 Hz together with g-sync makes the gameplay really smooth. I knew the risks when I bought the screen, if I would get dead pixels and/or a lot of backlight bleed or other issues I would simply return it.
I would definitely consider this screen if I could afford it, hopefully the technologies used in this monitor will become more widespread over the coming months.
I haven't been able to find this monitor in stock ANYWHERE in the last 2 months. It's simply sold out everywhere yet every tech reviewer on youtube has one...heck Linus has at least 7 lol. Almost feels like they sent their entire stock out to reviewers. Anyhow, I gave up waiting on it and got the Dell S2716DG you reviewed earlier for less than half the Predator's price ($529 on sale from Adorama) and couldn't be happier.
I picked this monitor up referbished from the Acer and it is gorgeous. The screen is amazing. The only complaint I have is that it's too heavy to use with my current monitor arm.
I've had one for 2 weeks now, Great monitor. The only thing I've noticed was a bit of back light bleed on the upper left corner. Not a deal breaker, but one would think that for the price of the monitor, that this would have been worked out. I have not had any of the other issues that have plagued this monitor at launch. It runs great at 100Hz and is a very immersive experience :)
Mine works great, and yeah some have some bugs but that's why you wait. i waited about a month or so before buying my predator and i'm glad i did it - works excellent and I've had no issues overclocking it or anything. It's a insane monitor. :)
I have been using this monitor for about 2 weeks now. my monitor will only OC up to 95hz, and kind of goes crazy set to 100hz. other than that I have no issues with it. I mostly play WoW and the game has no issues being run at 21:9. I have an I7-4770k not OCd outside of turbo boost and the MSI gaming 6G 980 TI and with settings maxed I usually get the full 95 fps with dips down to 60. overall, I am super happy with my predator X34.
5:59 Yes there are many things you should point out. This monitor has had many problems since it's been released and has even had a recall. As a reviewer it's your responsibility to inform your viewers of this. Especially when it's a $1300 monitor. I think Joker Productions was the only reviewer of this monitor that was brutally honest about this monitor.
watched this review on a x34 ;-) it is a fantastic monitor. my jaw dropped more than a few times after realising how good those colors look. after staring at an average TN panel for years this was a real eye opener. and i couldn't agree more with the g-sync part. i currently run an EVGA 970 SC and those 45 fps on rise of the tomb raider totally feel like 60 fps i was really worried after so many people in forums had issues with the monitor...guess i was lucky. the upcoming asus equivalent has an overall nicer design to it in my opinion...but picturewise they are the same. nice review btw
Ive owned this monitor since December and I can say without a doubt its the most incredible monitor Ive ever owned. 100hz is perfect for this resolution. It takes a beefy setup to rock 100hz at such a high resolution and its just a sweet spot for me. I know there was some problems with quality control with the early samples, but from everything Ive seen, it was mostly just firmware issues. Aside from people mistaking IPS glow for backlight bleed.. Thankfully I got a perfect monitor. very very little ips glow, that you can only notice with a completely black background, besides that its amazing. I know a lot of people like to try to shit on enthusiast products such as this, I guess because not being able to afford it, they try to convince themselves they wouldnt want it anyway? But let me say.... If you have the chance to get this monitor.. or even the Asus version, you wont be dissapointed! Its the most incredible gaming experience Ive had, and theres a great community of people that help each other when games dont offer official 21:9 support. I can honestly say I havent come across a game yet that I was stuck playing with black bars. Any game that didnt natively support it, Ive found a fix for. Whether it was through flawless widescreen, or wsgf, the community is great.
A month or so ago you guys posted a video about the Acer Predator Z35 and said you had that in house also. Are you still planning on a review of that monitor also? I'd be more interested in knowing about the z35 than the x34 as it's resolution is lower and more GPU friendly. I use a 40" 1080p TV as my monitor now so for me the pixel density will actually be higher when using a z35. You are BY FAR my favorite tech review site so I'd love to know your opinions on the z35 also. Thanks as always.
+Matthew Marquit I went for the Z35. Had it about a week myself and I have to say I love it! I've heard horror stories about it etc, but I certainly don't regret my purchase!
+MonkeySpaz5000 Thanks for the comment. Yeah, my tax return is coming and after getting some ultrawides at work I feel like I can't function without one at home. the z35 looks like the best of all the things I'm looking for (aside of the high price, but it is what it is).
the problem is these reviewers. They aren't the ones buying these products, let's be real, most of the stuff they have is sent to them. Its a bit of a problem when they say stuff like this 'just over $1,000', they aren't consumers, they certainly can't tell us if a product is worth say, $1300 because it doesn't come out of their pocket. and before anyway says "I'm just jealous", no I like paying for my stuff
+Oberone Kenobi What do you mean? Paul said that he would not have bought the monitor for his own money, that he can't see the need to spend 1300 dollars on a monitor that is marginally better than what he can get for a lot less. Joker's statement I don't remember, but he was also concerned about the price
I have a LG 3440x1440 21:9 monitor at work, so I took it home one weekend, to evaluate it of course. I was quite displeased with the problems most games have with dealing with 21:9 right now. I feel like investing $1200 into a 21:9 gaming monitor that doesn't support ~144Hz range or have some other edge is not the best way to spend my money.
1440* and btw i wish lg made a high end version of this because they just look and feel so much better. The metal frame and high end look is a must for me.
Looking to buy this monitor instead the 1070-1080 cards. I was so hyped with them, but the performance wasnt that great. And i think i will have this monitor for at least 3-4 years. So yeah, this is the best buy for me right now.
Insightful product review. The OSD was noticeably clunky to navigate. Looking forward to future iterations (or firmware updates?) with improved OSD appearance, navigation, and functionality.
+Mitchell Hall How is it gaming on that monitor? I need a consumer opinion because I will possibly buy this. :) I currently have a 144hz 1080p tn monitor, it's nice and all, but im not a professional competitive gamer so I won't notice the difference between 144hz and 100hz.
Eccentric Trolling I can honestly say it's the most amazing monitor I've ever owned. Gaming with an ultra wide curved 3440x1440 100hz ips screen is so immersive. My prior monitor was a 4k Gsync monitor, and I am so glad I made the switch. Just make sure you have the gpu horsepower to run it because it's very demanding. Especially if you want to get use out of the 100hz
Now do a compare & contrast vs the Z35 you have in. The X34 is a great monitor but its hard to warrant the increased Hardware cost needed to drive it. My 780 would have a pretty tough time. That Z35 though, even though its not an IPS panel, might be something I could considered since a GPU upgrade would not be required in order to drive it.
Just so people know although this monitors msrp is 1300$ its usually less. Right now its 1185 on ncixus. It also comes in a freesync version and is 900$
I have ordered one, but in the newer revision of this monitor so respectively the X34(A). It should be here this Thursday. I would never use a TN Panel ever in my life again, IPS is the way to go. And then this monitor is overclockable to 100HZ with Nvidia G-Sync. Well i will see this beast of a monitor this Thursday with my own eyes hope my o,ced 980 Ti can handle it.
Well i have a litle bit of Backlight Bleed. It is on the corners. I don,t see it when i Play BF1 or other Games. The Imagequality that this thing can produce is stunning. I havent had any issues so far. I love this monitor its really great you will understand when you have one. 21:9 is the way to go belive me.
I also have the X34A, zero dead pixels, backlight bleed is no more than expected and the image quality is awesome. 21:9 gaming is definitely the way forward! I have an EVGA 980ti FTW and in one game i play (not yet fully optimised) my fps dips to 40 but with G-Sync i don't even notice, it's VERY smooth.
"With a Predator gamers won't have to choose between a lightning fast refresh rate and image quality any longer" But now we have to choose between video cards. Words cannot describe my joy.
Hey Dimitri, im getting this monitor soon but have a question about the predator logo at the chin of the display and the back cablemangment hole , Linus said that it was orange But some other people say its red Please tell me what colour it is.
I don't know...I saw you on the Predator forums also complaining about some of the issues (Acer paid for this review?)....I also have this monitor and it is outstanding....I experienced coil whine but it ended up going away after having the monitor for a month.
hi, I own the VG289Q Tuf Gaming UHD 4K HDR, i love to watch youtube, movies in FHD, 4K, streaming, facebook etc... do you recommend me this huge monitor?
I thought I was at a lower resolution due to the lack of proper focus on a lot of things here, but the text overlayed is sharp, so it's not that. Is the footage up-scaled from a lower resolution?
I have this monitor. Frankly, I don't think ips is really worth it so long as you don't have the worst panel in the world. The viewing angles were no better than my 7-8 year old tn panel and the colors looked about the same. The 100 hz, 3440x1440, gsync, and 21:9 are pretty great though. I have no regrets, but I'm sure someone from the internet will tell me why I'm wrong
HardwareCanucks! i know youre a csgo player so wanted to ask you whether csgo on curved monitors is the same experience? or would you prefer a flat one for csgo?
Been using this monitor for a couple of months... only issue is the black (right side) screen that recovers from sleep mode.. other than that no issue.
I would not consider this an upgrade to my current gaming platform, I think the screen would however do very nicely for video editing. I am still not totally sold on G-Sync.
Hi i'm thinking about buying one of the 2 models but i don't know the difference. So i would gladly appreciate if someone told me the multiple differences between the X34a and the X34b
I bought this monitor today, and I've just realised that there is a black boarder in the screen area, probably .5 inch. Seems the thin bezal is pointless because the useable screen is smaller than the physical screen. Is there a setting I can change? I don't understand why it would be designed like this. Acer also promote the ZeroFrame design on the website which shows a very minimal gap between the bezel and the screen.
How would you compare this to the lg 34um98? Keep in mind this is coming from an individual who is building his first computer and is coming from only console. Gigabyte 980TI is the graphics I'm looking at
Its entirely natural feel with normal productivity work, in fact it slightly helps imo due to the size of the screen. If you are a graphic designer or architect, sure the very slight curve could be counter productive, but I would suggest its great for 99% of people. BTW I think curved TV's are ridiculous and a gimmick.
hey :D i both gigabyte brix i5 6200u mini pc,i need a monitor for it,do you want help me to make decision? should i need 4k monitor for it?or maybe led ips cheaper monitor is enough for me?
When will you be reviewing the ASUS PG348Q 34" ? I'm torn between the two.. not sure which one to get. ASUS so far has had better quality monitors- but that may change once more are on the market.
Picturewise they are pretty much the same but I gotta admit the Asus one has an overall nicer design + you can tilt it horizontally...I have the X34 and playing games in the 21:9 aspect ratio with those colors is beyond awesome...same goes for watching movies that support the aspect ratio. You won't regret buying either of the two
So you didnt notice any bad backlight bleed with yours? I bought one and it had bad bleed in the top left corner so I sent it back this week for a replacement. Im really hoping the next one doesnt suffer from this but I cant seem to find anyone talking about getting one that is perfect. And for what I paid for it, it better fucking be perfect
RayTheAnimeGuy The second one was better. You just have to accept that there is a natural glow with IPS when viewing dark backgrounds. There is a difference between bleed and glow. With bleed, the light is almost a golden color and it'll be stronger in one area than another. Glow is just a light whitish glow on the sides of the monitor that you only can see on dark backgrounds. Some people care about this more than others. My second one just has a little glow but no bleed so I am happy. I hope in the future though they start making these displays on OLED or something
Pat Dorsman Yeah I wanted to buy an IPS 1440p Ultra-wide monitor like this one but I've heard bad things about backlight bleed and problems with dark backgrounds. All of the games I want to play have some kind of day-night cycle, which I'm worried might be ruined by the glow.
RayTheAnimeGuy I bought it. First one had some bleed in the top left corner so I exchanged for another one. Second one is pretty much perfect. Just small amounts of glow in the corners which is natural for IPS. I've been really happy with it so far
Ngl you guys have the best editing on you tube. Watching reviews of stuff I'll never buy is entertaining. That's when you know it's been done right
Absolutely beautiful video. Great work Eber!
+Canoopsy Thanks man!
Got one, super happy with it. Running of 980TI SLI. Very happy with it. No problems what so ever.
I sold my old samsung 4k monitor, My note 4, and a few cell phones i got for cheap and got about $889 for all that paid the rest out of pocket for it and its totally worth it.

i got one last november and works flawless no issues only just a litle bleed on uper left corner...
Amazing monitor. I never gave attention to this monitor till you guys released a review. Magic of HWC Reviews

I picked this monitor up referbished from the Acer and it is gorgeous. The screen is amazing. The only complaint I have is that it's too heavy to use with my current monitor arm.
Nice Review! Presentation style make a difference!
I've had one for 2 weeks now, Great monitor. The only thing I've noticed was a bit of back light bleed on the upper left corner. Not a deal breaker, but one would think that for the price of the monitor, that this would have been worked out. I have not had any of the other issues that have plagued this monitor at launch. got mine refurbished for $949. Works great no dead pixels, overclocked to 100hz
Chase Brown off of what site?
Would love to see a video on how you do your camera work, it amazes me every time. lol

i was really worried after so many people in forums had issues with the monitor...guess i was lucky.
the upcoming asus equivalent has an overall nicer design to it in my opinion...but picturewise they are the same.
nice review btw
a little over a thousand = 299$
Xddddd
+9MultiMan thats equivelent to 299 burgers from mc donalds
Yeah that was a pretty dumb comment.
+Oscar Healy i'd rather throw my money into a fire than eat that cardboard
+Dušan Pešić that's 299 homeless people you've just pissed off
Nice shots with the red laser at the beginning. What racing game was that?
Ive owned this monitor since December and I can say without a doubt its the most incredible monitor Ive ever owned. 100hz is perfect for this resolution. Just got the Samsung UN40JU7500. Now that is a beautiful 4K Curved TV/Monitor. The curve makes for a really immersive experience. Only $800 at Newegg.
if the price falls to 1000$ or lower I'll consider buying 3 of them to fully update my settup.
Bought it. Love it!

+Eber Antony Awesome, Thanks for the rely. I look forward to seeing it.
That thing is frikkin beautiful!!
"Price a little over a thousand dollars" Just 300 dollars over, not a big deal lol
the problem is these reviewers. They aren't the ones buying these products, let's be real, most of the stuff they have is sent to them. +Persona Dgaf oh you're cool huh, I bet you "dab on em" too huh :p foh here trendy
+Oberone Kenobi go look at Paul's hardware's review and Joker Production's review of the monitors. They bring up this issue.
+Wistbacka oh I know, bringing up the issue though doesn't change the fact they can't give us a "its worth this much" statement
+Oberone Kenobi What do you mean? Paul said that he would not have bought the monitor for his own money, that he can't see the need to spend 1300 dollars on a monitor that is marginally better than what he can get for a lot less.

You guys should review the Acer xf270hu (Freesync). It's a great monitor with a great price tag, and actually better than its G-sync counterpart.
Great review, will there be a comparison between the Acer X34 and the Asus PQ348?
1440* and btw i wish lg made a high end version of this because they just look and feel so much better. The metal frame and high end look is a must for me.

I wish there were more reviews on the Freesync version
I should add you need a really wide table. That stand is really deep.
+Moon Leahcim its actually really not that bad. I dont have a big desk at all and it fits perfectly on mine.
+Mitchell Hall How is it gaming on that monitor?
I need a consumer opinion because I will possibly buy this. :)
I currently have a 144hz 1080p tn monitor, it's nice and all, but im not a professional competitive gamer so I won't notice the difference between 144hz and 100hz.

He already did that with this monitor ;D
Just so people know although this monitors msrp is 1300$ its usually less. Right now its 1185 on ncixus. It also comes in a freesync version and is 900$
Will you drop a video review of the XB271HK, because i can't decide which one to chose!
Oh I would love to have that Wallpaper with the tree!!
Yeah I'll enjoy my lg 29um67 for now. Freesync is great.
I would love this monitor for my next gaming rigg.
cinematography skills
how do you feel about the Korean cross-fade 28" monitors

I havent had any issues so far. I love this monitor its really great you will understand when you have one. 21:9 is the way to go belive me.
I also have the X34A, zero dead pixels, backlight bleed is no more than expected and the image quality is awesome. 21:9 gaming is definitely the way forward! I have an EVGA 980ti FTW and in one game i play (not yet fully optimised) my fps dips to 40 but with G-Sync i don't even notice, it's VERY smooth.
Hi Dimitri,
Where do you get your wallpapers from?
PS: I use the PQ279Q and I wait for DisplayPort 1.3 to upgrade.
Hi! Just a question, howd you get a transparent taskbar? thanks!
"With a Predator gamers won't have to choose between a lightning fast refresh rate and image quality any longer" But now we have to choose between video cards. Words cannot describe my joy.
Hey Dimitri, im getting this monitor soon but have a question about the predator logo at the chin of the display and the back cablemangment hole , Linus said that it was orange
But some other people say its red
Please tell me what colour it is.
I don't know...I saw you on the Predator forums also complaining about some of the issues (Acer paid for this review?)....I also have this monitor and it is outstanding....I experienced coil whine but it ended up going away after having the monitor for a month.
Very Amazing Monitor, Love it.
hi, I own the VG289Q Tuf Gaming UHD 4K HDR, i love to watch youtube, movies in FHD, 4K, streaming, facebook etc... do you recommend me this huge monitor?
Gonna get one of these bundled up with a 1080. Perfect match? What do you guys think?
That intro to hide the blacklight bleed tho lol.
Quick question: can it be mounted to the wall ?
Quick question, quick answer: yes
+82seno That's my type of an answer, thanks a lot !
I would like to know if it'd be good to buy one with a GTX 1080 or should I get a 4K not curved monitor please.
when are these types of monitors gonna come down in price
1:00 narration says 3440x1440 but caption shows 3440x1400.
I would not consider this an upgrade to my current gaming platform, I think the screen would however do very nicely for video editing. I am still not totally sold on G-Sync.
Bought an AOC 34" IPS 1440p a little over a year ago for ~$990, which has great height adjust stand. How is this great at $1300?
Because... G sync
Acer also promote the ZeroFrame design on the website which shows a very minimal gap between the bezel and the screen.
amazing you thought it was edge to edge when clearly its not in every video!
How would you compare this to the lg 34um98? Keep in mind this is coming from an individual who is building his first computer and is coming from only console. Gigabyte 980TI is the graphics I'm looking at
I've ordered the Asus rog swift ultrawide as i orefer how the display looks, Yet to take delivery though.
just ordered the asus pg348q. hope its as epic as this one.
Seriously considering getting this monitor, just need an i7, another 980 and I'll be set... only £2,000 left to save! D:
what is the main challenger for this one???
So I've got the original GeForce GTX Titan 6GB. Should that be enough card to make this monitor work well?
I hope so, im getting duel 1080's, if that doesn't work....well...your titan should.
does your x34 have a plastic leaf over its display when it was new?
any news on the Asus equivalent?
I hate to be nitpicky but when listing the specs you wrote 3440x1400 not 3400x1440.
Still holding steady for 100 plus Hz 4 K Monitor with G sync.
Hey can I get alink to the wallpaper at 1:00?
What specs are on the machine that was running this?
I am waiting for 4K-Ultrawide screen what resolution that will be...?
dude, how is a curved screen for working with illustrater or photoshop? isnt it irritiating when you have to work precisely with forms and stuff?
Its entirely natural feel with normal productivity work, in fact it slightly helps imo due to the size of the screen. If you are a graphic designer or architect, sure the very slight curve could be counter productive, but I would suggest its great for 99% of people. BTW I think curved TV's are ridiculous and a gimmick.
I WANT THAT WALLPAPER ON THE MONITOR
the curve is bad on some games? or the menu of the game is not made for 3440? thats what happens t me here, menu usually is messed up.
when do you test ASUS ROG SWIFT PQ348Q?
hey :D i both gigabyte brix i5 6200u mini pc,i need a monitor for it,do you want help me to make decision? should i need 4k monitor for it?or maybe led ips cheaper monitor is enough for me?
I have dreams about this monitor
ok can the back stand be changed with a lg 34UC8 stand by opening the joint point as the stock stand sucks!!!!!!!!
Pat Dorsman did it?
I've been really happy with it so far
plese... make a review of Dell U3415w
What's the name of the race game seen in the video?
Somebody....WHAT IS THAT AWESOME taskbar replacer at the bottom?
