What a BEAUTIFUL chest of drawers! I think it's art deco, which would be consistent with the manufacturing period you mentioned. I really like your work and also your voice, calm, polite, warm and without chatter. It's a pleasure to watch and listen to your videos.
Thanks, I never really think about all the details until I watch someone load their piece of furniture into their car and I smile because the bottom of the dresser looks as good as the top! 🤣
Wowzers! Movie Star Quality! It's So Elegant! It's Ageless and Would be the Center of Attention in Any Home! The Black Top is Stunning! I could Look at It All Day! Don't be Afraid to Charge a Lot!
Wow - you did an amazing job! What a beautiful old dresser. I think the veneer looks like maple, but I am not an expert on identifying wood species. It’s gorgeous, whatever it is!
This is probably the first time I've refinished a light coloured wood veneer. Most of the mid century furniture I re-do is either Mahogany, Walnut, or Teak! I'm really glad I got the chance. It's truly beautiful wood.
Love this piece! That veneer is gorgeous! Beautiful work. I really appreciate your attention to detail & cleaning up the back, underside, and inside. It makes a difference. 🦋
Great work!! I would like to imagine that the original crafters of the dresser, are thankful that you took the time and work to restaure such a fine piece!!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it. I am still very much at the beginning of the learning curve where the filming is concerned! But having lots of fun figuring it all out! 😆
Beautiful restoration! It looks better than it probably did when it was new. I loved watching you do reconstructions - which is an art form of its own. Thanks for rescuing a total beaut!
Thanks for tuning in and thanks for the kind words. I was hoping it would look at least as good as it did when it was brand new....but we'll never know!😉
Amazing dresser! I personally think that the burled wood is maple, which is simply gorgeous! I don't know why but I seem to gravitate to Canadian restorers! Lol the Canadians are my favorites to follow! 😆
Wow! Amazing job. What a smart idea to make the top of cheap wood and paint it because it makes it more durable and the final outcome with the contrast is beautiful.
Your video came into my feed today. I’m glad I took the time to watch it until the end. The piece is drop dead gorgeous. I cannot imagine why any stain was put on that wood since it obscured the grain pattern. Be it curly maple or flamed birch as was suggested, it is beautiful (a little internet research suggests the terms curly, flamed, quilted are all the identifying the same unusual grain pattern). Thanks for a great video and nice explanation of your process.
Thanks, I agree, it is a very unusual design. I think the only way I will know for sure what kind of wood veneer it is, is to find out what types the manufacturing was using when it was made and so far I haven't been able to hunt down that info (even with the aid of google!) 🤣
Absolutely the best refinishing job yet I have seen you do. Everything you do is excellent but this particular piece struck a resonates cord with me, not sure if it’s because it reminds me of my grandparents furniture or just the beauty of the piece itself but either way you did such a spectacular job on it, it is stunning! Thank you for sharing this with us as always i always learn something new (painting inset details) and enjoy the overall journey you take us on. So appreciate your style, design and skill you are so talented, thank you!
Thank you so much! It's funny how different pieces resonate with you for different reasons! I had a good feeling about this one from the beginning. Glad you learn something new from my video, that's always nice to hear! ☺
Love your videos. You r very talented and you teach us a lot. This turned out so wonderful. Your hard work gave it a new life and someone will admire it for years. Linda Beals.
Not burl. Maple. Combo tiger/quilted. Some maples get opened up and they just have pattern and there’s no way to anticipate it. Also called chatoyance. Sometimes also found in birch. Which this may be. I think maple bc of the splotchy look of the wood after oiling. Burl is wood taken from a particular part of a tree, either at the junction of two big limbs, or from the root/trunk join, or just from a gnarled section of the tree. See a gnarled tree? It’s got burl.
Terrific! This could have gone soooo sideways. I definitely think the veneers are maple, and maple will break your heart if you try to stain it. Keeping it blond popped all the grain, quilting, and tiger stripes and the oil added depth and lustre. Nice!
You could certainly do it that way. But since the surface area of the the corner cracks was so small I opted for just a few clamps, I figured that would be enough. The surface area of the drawer was so much larger I wanted to make sure the board helped with clamping pressure. There's always many ways to achieve the same thing!

Thanks so much! A few people mentioned it might be Art Deco! It's a beautiful piece. I am just glad I was able to save it and make it useful again. 😊
You knocked it out of the PARK!!!!! Again, your attention to detail amazes me! Thanks for another great video! 😊

You did a phenomenal job bringing this old girl back to life! Really stunning and I very much enjoy your attention to detail.
Glad you enjoyed it! I just feel happy that it will be enjoyed for years to come, even though the people who made it many years ago are long gone! ☺️
What a beautiful renewal of a classic piece so it can continue to be appreciated for many years to come!
Thanks for tuning in. And I couldn’t agree with you more! ☺️
I really like that you went with a natural finish! It really shows off the beautiful figured maple there’s a chance it’s figured red birch

I was pleasantly surprised that everything came together so well! I still can't believe this piece is 90 to 100 years old! 😆
Lovely. Thank you for doing so much to restore this gorgeous piece. You are very artistic.
Thank you very much! I try my best! 😂
Stunning. Love your decision to leave natural!
I couldn't bring myself to stain it! 😆
This is a beautiful restoration. Might the style be Art Deco? I love the contrast between the black paint and the natural wood.

That's a greek key pattern across the top so noeclassical revival is my guess. Curly maple as well. Just a beautiful outcome
It definitely has a greek vibe across the top. And it looks like Curly maple is the winner in terms of wood type! 😃

For getting wood glue into tight gaps, your compatriot Ted Woodford uses a small sucker to force the glue down.
