I love how they play with so much energy back then like their career depended on it....and it payed off. Now they play like almost standing still with a different energy but it's still just as intense.
I guess its natural for them ‘slowmotion down’ but now, them standing rather still - live - is way more menacing. Best band in the world, they’re goofy on their behind the scenes tapes; incredibly dedicated, talented and relentlessly creative. They’re *INSANE*
I was there. They opened up for SLAYER at Roy Wilkens auditorium. I had never heard of them, but they blew me away. Big fan and have seen them many times since this show.
I remember they opened up for tool in 2002 and I took a bus to Sacramento from Seattle to specifically see tool. Meshuaggh opened I never even heard if them. Then i heard the closing moments of straws pulled at random and meshuggah have been my favorite band ever since
The cameras back then are so bad ass. they get the sound so good nowadays our phones ain't built for that.. the Algorithm is on point this week with old Meshuggah Shows.
Lastest tour with Gustaf Hielm. He left the band at 2001 but he had a great sound! As Peter Nordin had a great sound (Unique) too on "CC, None and DEI", Gustaf sounds awesome and different (Unique too) on Chaosphere.......Awesome gig, thanks for posting!
Finally one of those where I could say I was there. Had been looking forward to seeing them for a few years at that point. But yeah probably 100 people knew ahead of time what they were seeing. sick of it all played after meshuggah and the crowd was totally bored
Haha, jokes. But Marten has arthiritis on his arm and he is older now. Tomas Haake was herniated disk on his right thigh and is very tough to play. Fredrik even skipped his tour from 2017 onwards. He tired of live shows, he can't drag himself around. Age only hinteres their live performance, their songs never get old.
@@johannrajan3279 man, looking at how hard they used to headbang it's not surprising that It came back to haunt them now. hope i get to see them live someday

Simply because they are old guys now. Backpains and so on…
@eduardoentr1 yah makes sense. Whether they're standing still or running around with their hair on fire it's all super intense either way though

I followed this band for 17 years but after seeing this video I can say now that concatenation is my favorite song of all time from Meshuggah. Unreal.
It’s one of there meanest songs in my opinion like talk about a terrifying guitar solo.

best band ever.
The more pre-2000's Meshuggah shows I find online, the happier I become hahaha
14:49 *this* moment holds a special place in my soul - look at their energy wtf - Sane is an INSANE track
19:19 Meshuggah is alien music.
I was 4 years old then, never knew. Grew up listening to all the things that would lead me to them. But all that time in between, never knew.
The cameras back then are so bad ass. they get the sound so good nowadays our phones ain't built for that.. the Algorithm is on point this week with old Meshuggah Shows.
It was a microphone that plugs into the camera, and not the camera itself.
my phone sounds better than this, also, placement
No they did not sound better. Newer microphones are better and don't clip like crazy like the one in this video.
8:42 is that a cheeky Anthrax nod?
True lol
This is fucking raw as fuck.
fucking brutal performance
they play with so much energy
Hell yeah! I'm in the front there somewhere. This was when they opened for Slayer at Roy Wilkins.

Here on tour again with Gustaf, 2002
it's crazy that along with Pain of Salvation, Gustaf has played in two legendary Swedish progressive bands
Jens: beastmode activated...
So true
Jens on Chaosphere era was not human
their most frantic period
Most fans weren't born yet that the fun part!

Absolutely!!!
I know. He's really into that for this show. Seen that solo plenty, and he's dialed in this show
Dude Jens is a machine. So consistent.
Is this the only video footage of Concatenation being played live on UA-cam?
I remember saw another one a few years ago that was my favorite version of Concatenation live, but it was deleted.
There’s also another footage of it in Eindhoven 1999, you can easily find it.
