- Meshuggah's Chaosphere studio footage from the 1998 recording sessions with English subtitles.
Meshuggah is one of the biggest influences throughout my musical journey. Especially my guitar playing was strongly shaped by them, and my passion for heavier music grew immensely over the years. That's why I dedicate this channel mainly to this fantastic band that has fascinated and inspired me all this time.

More Meshuggah is about to drop next week on this channel, so stay tuned!
🤟🤜
The album sounds like it's from 2998.
These people are aliens disguised as humans, observing human activity while testing our musical technology
@@carlrune204 Nah, just swedes.
Correct.
These rhythms are from the future
Indeed my man! Way ahead
of its time!
8:59 "I can't play guitar ANYMORE!!!" hahahaha so good. I think we can all relate to that feeling.
I certainly can, course I never could play to begin with, so there's that lol
They probably had absolutely no idea they were going to completely change the course of metal history lol. And have a massive influence on so much of it
I always felt like that was their GOAL.
Totally, and probably weren't even thinking about it in the slightest
at that time probably no
Chaosphere I think is where this band completely seperated themselves from their influences.
True. They MUST have realised at some point that they had basically invented a completely different realm of metal.
Hmmm me personally I think they already did it on DEA
@@blasteffect19 DEA is definitely the inflection point (especially compared to CC and None), but I feel that Chaosphere is what made them Meshuggah and is their pinnacle even though they've had some really good releases since then.
It's obviously on *"Destroy Erase Improve"* is you ask me.
You're right.
In this episode :
Tomas consumes approximately one and a half snare head a day
Jens the mechanic is repairing a lemon...
also featuring :
Marten "I was thinking about flowers" Hagstrom
Psycho Fred
and a Bass player named Gustaf
My god that bass tone is so good
(10:37)
Gustaf
yeah, holy crap... how did they get that tone?!

wild that they recorded the bass parts on a stingray bass. i assumed they used the btb bass or that rgb bass gustav always had on tour.
@@h34dyl4m4rr Dang I didn’t know it was a stingray. I might have to buy one some time.
Update: I got the exact bass
Best meshuggah album hands down. Said it back in 1998. Stand by it today.
While the drums for Concatenation were demo'd on June 13, 1998, I was celebrating my seventh birthday with my new Playstation.
Man, I have such fond memories of this time... Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Silent Hill, Resident Evil,... The PS1 startup is edged into my brain, I love it.
Twisted Metal, Jet Moto, Riiiidge Racer!!
3:01 Jens Kidman smiling. Make sure you take a screenshot.
I hope you haven't missed this one ua-cam.com/video/mH4T3Zq1eQQ/v-deo.html
2:38 as a metalhead and former car enthusiast this was extremely cathartic than Jens too hates wrenching 😂😂
6:37 *F-BOMB!!*
Chaosphere is still my favorite Meshuggah album. it's just glorious.
That guitar tone is so fucking massive
Indeed! One of the best tones, holy grail type shit! It’s funny cuz i got kind of close to it right before the pandemic hit hard with an amp profile in TH-U, one of the JP2C rig libraries.
But Ola Englund’s recent video on that tone is probably the closest anyone of us can get to it, since he actually knows Fredrik and the gear they used.
I just bought the IR he made with the cab for that video and it definitely sounds the part, paired with the TC Integrated Preamp and Rectifier in STL Tones Amphub plugin
I am so happy this exists. When Chaosphere came out it changed everything.Such a ferocious and alien sounding album.Cool to see behind the scenes.
Is that how the guitar sounded before processing?!?
Holy sh*t
best snare tone ever...
These guys are good. Hopefully they make it big one day.
😂
😂😂😂
Idk haven’t heard of them since
11:51 awesome to see Aphex Twin on the bass :D
I was wondering if anyone thought the same thing!
Holy shit, he does look like Richard...
Way way way ahead of it's time.
Shit! now I have to go listen to this album for the 1000th time
8:50 the outro for the mouth licking what you've bled is still amongst my favorites
Filmed by me in 2008 as part of an interview I did with Tomas and Mårten.
ua-cam.com/video/YCe_qJsw1L0/v-deo.html
13:41 - OMG, imagine if that made it onto the album.
seriously! as if it wasn't insane enough
go listen to aztec two step
@an_ethos finally someone remembered it
It’s new millennium cyanide christ
@@cash3371 they mean what if NMCC had THAT vocal take over that part.
So wild seeing a VCR atop spaceship Djent technology.
Seeing that midi drum programming on a crt screen blows my mind. I think I was born right after my parents got rid of the crt so I've never seen anything like that. And it sounds really good too. This video quality is also surprising. I've recorded to tape and at 240p on old cameras but they never looked this good.
When this CD came out, it was the only thing I listened to for at least a year straight.
Watching this is like watching a demo band record 30 years ago with pocket change they earned over the summer - what a trip down memory lane and how much technology has gone ahead in terms of recording is mind boggling but man hearing those raw drum tracks... just pure brilliance of Haake... they were (and still are) at a whole new level of musicianship
That's hilarious at 1:12 Tomas was practicing that super weird/difficult part from New Millenium Cyanide Christ right before recording it. That's probably one of their most annoying riffs to learn on drums.
Im glad he played it slowed down at first so now I can really nail it when I practice it now
@@nameunavailable3025 just be aware the last time they repeat the riff in the song the polyrhythm goes on for longer without repeating. It plays the same the rest of the song though.
The way it's slowed down makes it alot easier to learn. I love this video because it has it
I can't believe that in those years everyone was dancing to ricky martin's "The cup of life" while these monsters were making some of the best albums in history.
BEST GUITAR TONE!
EPIC album
Hit "CC" for translations!
as a teenager when I first found meshuggah, this was my least favorite meshuggah album… as a 28 year old adult, this is my favorite meshuggah album.
I don't blame you. I heard new millennium cyanide christ back in 09 and was hooked from then on
Same except I just turned 27. I remember unapologetically blasting this in school like no tomorrow; no fucks to give. I still do it but now in traffic and at work lol.
Heck, I had only really heard one or two songs when I saw them live years ago and I was amazed at their sound but wasn't sure I liked them. Upon listening further, they became one of my favorite bands, and I go see them live every time they're near me.
hahah that part Haake was "practicing" was exactly the same riff I had a problem with but on guitar in NMCC
When I finally figured out what they were doing there I was like "aha! You bastards!"
1:12 it relieves me a bit to know that Tomas also had a little trouble learning to play this part. I don't feel so miserable now
Lmao but he's learning it the day of recording -
@@azhaz578 haha he likes to live dangerously
Sooo.....a machine/alien/deity CAN make mistakes.....from time to time! 😡 Bassards
That part its fckng hard to play, love the groove of the rhythm section
*This feels like watching a random episode of a weird soap opera about a bunch of Swedish Vikings that are obviously doing things that are way ahead of their time.*
Tomas is such a beast of a drummer. The band itself are already legends. 🔥🤘🏽
0:30 love the cardboard wad. It's great to see the pros using quick-and-dirty solutions just like us garage guys did. I played with a guy that had the usual pillow in the kick, but he also attached a maxi pad to his batter head...
Damn. Those are DDrum triggers, right? Is the cardboard wad because of threading/the trigger bouncing around on the hoop?
I would like to hear from fredrik in a real and long interview about meshuggah.
That would be awesome! Maybe one hour about Meshuggah and half an hour about his next solo album... ^^ I am not religious, but I constantly pray so we would get anything new from him. Fredrik not writing anything except a few soli for the new album left a bittersweet taste in my mouth. I'm happy for him, no matter what comes - but please...
It's even more ridiculous with the date on the screen.
1998 in Metal - Metallica wins a Grammy in the wake of releasing their seventh studio album [Checks notes] "Re - Load".
Meanwhile, in Uppsala..
Been my favorite band for a while now, but back when this was recorded, "Ghetto Superstar" was probably my favorite song, so nice to hear it make an appearance at 5:08.
This is gold material right here for the ages. Meshuggah changed the game for the entire world 🔥
Probably my favorite Meshuggah album. So weird, yet so catchy!
This is one of the best albums ever. No joke.
No lies detected.
This is amazing! Thank you!
Thank you for uploading all these studio videos. I really enjoy them!
Beautiful. I can't believe this was all going on when I was an infant. Their imprint is everywhere in metal now, all these years later.
Ah, the classic Alesis A-DATs. We had several of those in your school studio in high school. At the time, top of the line. :D
Great footage!
God that tone is so unreal
I Love You, Thank you so much for posting this ♥♥♥
What riffmachines...
What a fkn album!
This is gold. I spent so much time as a teenager studying this album... Thank you. 🙏
Amazing video!!!!!
Amazing footage
Wonderful!
Best meshuggah album ever made!
This is still my most favourite album by Meshuggah
I was just one year old in 1998
You guys are amazing always love you guys 🤘🏻🤘🏻🫂
Thanks for uploading! :)
Very interesting to hear things that are not on the album like the guitar dissonances in 'The Exquisite Machinery of Torture' and the scream in 'New Millennium Cyanide Christ'.
Regards :)
Listening to The Exquisite Machinery here gives me a complete different understanding of the song without the vocals adding to the syncopation. Salute to you!
absolutely insane music 50 years ahead of its time
My fave MESSY-HUGGER album.
Still sounds so good.
Personally, that guitar tone’s some of the best I’ve heard right next to Demanufacture, Burn My Eyes and Vulgar Display Of Power.
I like solid state. Tubes are gay
Incredible
Man the clarity is great, I misheard so many drum parts growing up because the mix was the way it was.
SOOOO FUUUUCKIIING GOOOOD !!!
Frederiks look whie playing bass is so good xD
wow meshuggah is so ahead of their time they even had axe fxs 8 years before they were released!
Where you can see it?
There were with line six first
They stumbled onto something with None and DEI, but perfected it with Chaosphere.
It's so fun to watch this when you understand swedish
Was thinking the same and hilarious actually 😅🤘
🔥
Best album ever
insane bass tone jesus christ
legends at work....abba to meshuggah...thank you SWEDEN.........
GOATS
Did not think they were using a musicman to record the bass parts. That’s pretty cool
Guys!! You really.....have....what appears...to be....a DYNAMITE sound....
Now they can fit 50 large amplifiers into one small box which you can hold in your hand, Jens said.
This album is at the top for me, later for all the Catch 33 lovers. Then Nothing, then I have my list after that. The bassist Nordin had something that kept him from being in the band after this.
You can't deny how they were thinking and what they were feeling here. It is about the dagone ONE. All day!!!! My favorite band on the planet!
Been nice to see subtitles lol
Hit the CC button
I hope they play some songs from it on the tour 2022, like concentation mouth licking what u bled and corridor of chameleons
One of the greatest metal albums ever created!!
The perfect thumbnail doesn't exi....
THIS right there... is the birth of Djent. The true birth of modern metal. We owe it all to them. Well to Fear Factory and Machine Head too for sure!
Yeah, def rings a bit of archetype and all

The bass tone is nasty!
This album is still way ahead of its time. I feel like the last two albums have definately been lacking since frederic didnt write anything. The album koloss i feel gets overlooked. That to me is easily one of their best. After this album would be that one for me
Did he really not write anything for the last two albums?
*Fredrik*
@@itsrajivrm yes, just solos on immutable and violent sleep of reason from Frederik. Everything else was dick and marten and tomas. He’s “allegedly” been working on solo material all this time
@@Creature1009 aahh that does explain it! I feel he added an extra layer of technicality
@@DystopianApocalypse I saw Meshuggah live last year and some knobhead yelled "Fredrik!!!!" directly to Mårten... crowd was like "wtf dude" and he just kinda shook his head lmao.
Man... i would do a lot of things to get that guitar tone at 7:25 ... holy shit
now you just need fortin nameless!

@@apoplexiamusic I might have to get that then, wasn’t aware of this thank you.
