It sounds, pretty much like the Jehovah's Witnesses, Orthodox Judaism, Scientology, etc. Then people wonder why membership in these institutions are in decline.

The ones who followed, have remained racist, regardless of what we understand about human beings.
Those in the south, hate democrats, stress Republican views, while not voting so they can claim they aren’t political.
I wasn’t raised Mormon, but I spent many years in the church/community with my extended family. This is exactly what is going on in that church, it’s extremely unfortunate that such radical views and almost cult like behavior is still accepted among the community. My husband and I were raised Mormon. We were married in the temple and all that jazz and still had temple recommends when we both left mormonism (different years). It was built on lies from the beginning.
For what "good" the church does do, it doesn't correct all of the bad they do or have done. The fact that you take class after class to "know your religion " and yet they never tell you the truth. And you listen to their apologists and realize how poor their arguments are. . I have nothing nice to say about their founding "prophet" that freaking conman.

I was baptized at 8 because my mother was baptized. Most people don't choose their own religion and I was no exception. I spent most of life as a TBM, I went on mission at 19, I was married in my Bishop's back yard at 34 then sealed in the temple with my wife an son at 35. I was happy in the church till age 50 and started a faith premoting journey to learn about the history and real life of Joseph Smith. After about 4 months of study and avoiding anything that would be considered anti Mormon, it became painfully obvious that my whole world view was based on a 19th century conman. Yes I was devastated and now I am an agnostic.
Hey, thank you for sharing your experience. And, I'm really inspired in the way that you film, I've been studying documentaries of people's personal experiences and your series is SUPER good so far. (I'm not sure if that means much, coming from someone that's never made a real film before)

I left too, but I was not & am not a racist.
The church doctrine is racist in certain areas, but all the members certain are not even though the doctrine is racist. The whole Lamanite verbiage is over the top....that when they repented their skin turned light!!....🤣🤣🤣....like being white = righteous LOL!!!
@@DesertSky928 right, when the whole time Jesus wasn’t white.. and I definitely wasn’t saying anyone was racist I just feel like if people are going to choose to believe in something, the thing they are choosing to believe shouldn’t be racist
I was half asleep when I read the title and thought it was going to be about racism within the Book of Mormon musical- but I got something far more profound and interesting. I absolutely loved the camera work, the lighting, and the words throughout this video. In just a short 5 minutes I honestly felt like I had watched an entire film, I cant wait to see more from you, thank you for telling your story :)

I think the Mormon Church has twisted the Bible. When my FIL passed away, my MIL was grateful because he had fully converted and was temple worthy right before he died. I asked what was important about that and she said that it was important because they were sealed and could now be married for "time and all eternity." I found this disturbing because the Bible describes heaven and specifically says in the book of Revelation that in heaven there will be no marriage or giving in marriage. There is so much about this religion that specifically goes against what the Bible says, I don't even know where to begin. The Bible also says that "the word of God shouldn't be changed or added to, not by a sentence or a word or a punctuation mark. This is something Joseph Smith blatantly ignored. I have been married to my husband for 30 years, and I have had to defend my beliefs in God and religion every day since I was married against my Mormon in-laws.

Keep speaking the truth! I was a convert from age ten and left at 16. Rejected by family. I’m in my 50’s and there’s still tension.

Not being encouraged to ask questions is a ref flag! I'm a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ but I ask Hom and others questions and will continue.
It was a different decision for me to leave. A part of me still misses it, yet I'm free
a part of me will always miss it and i have to remind myself that i’m better off this way. it’s hard getting out of something you knew to be true your whole life, only to have to completely reset everything you ever thought and believed. sometimes i miss the feeling of belonging to something, or sometimes i miss being so sure in my beliefs. but i’m much better off now. it’s obviously a lot to work through but i’m better off knowing what i know now. you’re right, we’re free.

Why dont you join a affirming christian church that supports LGBT ? Why not give it a try? God exist and he still loves you. Leaving Mormon Church was a good thing but Dont give up on the real God. There are many Churches that are affirming to LGBT that will provide you love and support and strength.

Unfortunately, this will get dismissed by most people when they read the headline. I know, for me, I dismiss anything nowadays when something is called racist. It’s a term that has been ruined by the new generation that literally think EVERYTHING is racist. The Book of Mormon, does in fact have racist verses.
I def think you’re stretching with the term lamanite being racist. And by stretching I mean you’re doing exactly what I said early where EVERYTHING is racist.

Obviously everyone's church experience is different. However, there are good things in the church and good people. No one is taught to "shun" for lack of a better word. We are taught to love and appreciate our differences with other religions and people. We are taught to be kind and to love everyone regardless of race, privilege or any other factor. Because if Jesus were standing right next to you he would not li e you any less because of a tattoo. I promise you are loved and if you have any questions please reach out to people and ask questions, go to a youth activity, attend sacrament meeting, but even if this is not what you believe, most everyone can agree we all should be kind and uplifting rather than pushing down those who have wronged us or don't believe the same as us. We are all children of God who loves us 💞
What about the little Native American or African American boys and girls that grow up thinking they are cursed by god because of their skin color?
Reagan, let's be real though. LDS have pretty stiff rules about behavior, appearance and life in general. If I consistently came to Sacrament meeting showing my tatoos, in jeans and a t-shirt, I wouldn't be accepted. If I don't obey the WOW, I wouldn't be accepted by my "church family". If they found out I couldn't take Sacrament, your kids couldn't play with my kids.
Shunning isn't a mormon word. That's why you don't recognize it, but the disassociation of the non-faithful by the faithful is exactly that. The temple recommend is a prime example. If you are worthy, you get to go. If not, you're shunned, made to miss, endowments, marriages, baptisms of family. If you're an adult and temple worthy, you already know this. If not, don't challenge the narrative and you'll do ok. Plenty of LDS are fine with that.
@@AngiesCousin it's not a matter of shunning or excluding in fact its the exact opposite, it's a matter of including everyone no matter what. Heavenly father sets rules to keep us safe but we also were given the gift of free agency so we can all choose how to take those "rules" and how we apply them to our lives. But there are still consequences eternally for breaking these so called rules.

The Saints, and those of other faiths as well, instinctually assume that this word is in reference to race, nationality, or color of skin. . . . The LDS version of the King James Bible and the Book of Mormon help us to understand that the word black is actually a Hebrew idiom, meaning gloomy, dejected, or spiritual darkness, and has nothing to do with skin tone. We see in Jeremiah 8:21, the LDS version of the King James Bible footnotes the word ‘black’ where it is defined as a Hebrew idiom, dealing with the mental, emotional, or spiritual state of the individual. In the context of its common meaning in Hebrew as indicating a spiritual not a physical state. I am Colombian with native Latin American blood. I am dark and I love my dark skin color and never felt any less in The LDS faith. Never thought it was a curse or ashamed of my skin color. Now if people want to think that for me, I ignore it, as I know I'm aChild of God and He loves us all the same.
@@jenneferc8768 .. what you don’t seems to understand is that it WAS TAUGHT FOR DECADES THAT IT WAS IN FACT SKIN COLOR!! It’s only recently that the church has tried to change the narrative and claim it’s about a black soul. YOU ARE WRONG!! Look into the churches truth claims, look into church history. COME TO UTAH, FUND OUT FOR YOURSELF!
