Coming from a student who has tried multiple ways to make money, I'm gonna say that sometimes people speak from a point of privilege. Getting a job is one thing in this country. Its hard. And that's how life is kwa ground. So in as much as we are grinding hard looking for the bag, we gotta admit that having multiple incomes is a blessing in it's own. So excuse those who can barely save money monthly for emergency funds and all let alone even afford a decent life. However, all things considered, living below you means is the trick. And, budget to the very last penny.

I know girl, I totally feel you. I guess for our case, starting out is what’s painful. We search so hard until we begin to think that either we are searching wrong or the universe is not on our side. In this world you need money to make money. I guess once God opens a door, then you can build from there…but hearing the words ‘make more money’ is hard when you have nothing a all.

How to clean a dispenser? Boil water wait to cool to Luke warm, them mix with white vinegar and baking soda. Then pour the liquid at the top, where the dispenser nuzzle goes in, open both the hot water and cold water and let run. then have some seat for like sometime. I leave it over night and flush like like 3 kettles of plain water. Hopefully this makes sense

What Ivy is saying is correct. There is a glass ceiling to how much you can cut back from your budget but there is no glass ceiling to focusing on making more money AFTER you have done all the trimmings. I personally don't like the advice to not buy the $2 coffee. How much of a difference does it really make? If that coffee is connected to my joy and is what sets me in a good mood so I can go out and hustle and make more money then please buy the coffee and go make more money. I have always had 2-3 streams of income and because of that when one ends...finances becomes an inconvenience NOT an emergency because I still have 1 -2 streams to lean on while I sort out something new.

I took a hybrid approach - make more money and cut down costs. I moved out of Nairobi to live rent-free upcountry. I planted a kitchen garden and began a poultry and hibiscus tea side hustle. Before you beat yourself down because you don't have the "money making mentality", ask yourself if you can afford baby stuff worth 80k so you can resell at 50k, or if you can afford more than enough clothes that you can resell. Or do you just have enough clothes for a week or two that you got from the streets. Do you have anything around the house that you can sell, or can you even afford everything that you need, including food? Do you have a single stream of income that can help you survive leave alone multiple streams? If you do, is it enough to save, leave alone start a business or something? Or do you get broke on 20th of every month. Not because you're living above your means but because it's simply not enough. You could go as low as you can but still not have enough. My point is, most people who hold the same idea talk from a point of privilege. Having people you can call to give you a job is already a privilege many don't have. Try calling someone today and see if you can get a job that easily with your little name😅In fact, people with such privileges are sometimes the reason people without cannot get the opportunities. Because if you can make a call and get the job, what about the person who applied for the same job but can't call anyone for the favor? Don't beat yourself down because you don't have such privileges. Do your best wherever you are. Just try to survive, it's the least you can do. Your mentality isn't putting you in that position. Be kind to yourself.

I really love how Ivy is not focused on small small things like nyanya. It seems she's like "You guys haven't been cutting costs all this time?" The women in development movement was based on this way of thinking, for women to grow they can't be focused on welfare issues like food etc. The focus is making more money. You can cut costs all you want but if you make the same amount imagine it won't make a difference as such.
In my house, since Covid started we have been:
    1. Multiple income streams. Yes, have a main job and other tu side jobs.
    2. Milk tea kila siku where?? We have days for porridge, milk and even turungi especially with yams as escort.

Finally! Someone's talking about the elephant in the room. Let's also talk about the pressure that comes with being an influencer and having to make tough financial decisions before you get yourself in debt to fund that lifestyle. Personally, I moved houses, (from which I now saves me 13k monthly).. do homeschooling for my LO, sold some stuff.. (very hard to let go but you have to), let go of my nanny to get on my feet faster. I did. Now nesting better with emergency fund and stuff. Had a 6 month plan, hopefully will be ready to take my LO back to school in January. The sooner we accept that this economic crisis will be with us for a while... The better.. let's adjust early.

Ivy, Caroline mutoko, Ntalami…their girl boss feminism and other agendas isn’t for the kawaida mwananchi, y’all just don’t get it. The issue is that they’re not clear on the exact demographic that their messaging is for , and that makes a large group of their audience constantly feel isolated. Just pick and choose what works for you. Ivy reminds me of Kim Kardashian and other wealthy girl bosses from the western world. Their “advice & solutions” are always very dismissive to the unique struggles of ordinary women with extra challenges. “Just get up your a*s and work. It’s that simple” 😂

While finding ways of making more is a plausible perspective, we have to agree that majority of Kenyans cannot even afford to survive on their own salaries which is a huge problem. Making more money calls for a stable mental health, and time to even look for these opportunities which many do not have.
What we should be asking ourselves is why is the common mwananchi continuously suffering and having to take the brunt for rising costs when the top 1% continue to rake in the money? Why is it that there are policies to aid the rich to cut back on costs and taxes while there are almost none to help the common mwananchi?
The rising cost of living and inflation and how it disproportionately affects the majority is a case of the failure of economic systems upheld by our governments. Therefore, the conversation should focus on how to repeal and reform these systems instead of putting the load on individuals - asking individuals to find ways of surviving the rising costs - when the problem is bigger than individuals. We have governments to create solutions for all Kenyans but somehow, a majority, who work hard day and night with nothing to show for it are not considered to be worthy.

I'm so glad audio seems fine in this episode can't wait to watch. I've tried so many times to listen to the episodes from 2 weeks ago ( haven't been getting notifications lately) and Lorna's hmmm every other second is over powering. Lol
Please do something with your sound system, some small voice echoing in the last episode though haven't caught up yet. And take the mic further from Lorna lol, I've always heard her hmmm lol but this time it was far too loud and I couldn't hear what the girls were saying. While I'm on this topic, be mindful of talking over each other like you did in older episodes. I don't want to miss anything:) pls don't view my feedback as negative. I enjoy watching your videos.

The vertical gardens and container farming at your balcony can go a long way in meeting your veggie needs , saves you money and the vegetables are safe for consumption coz you grow organically. Insightful episode. Thank you

I think making more money is what most people desire inflation or not as such I don't think we manage the effects of inflation by making more money it just increases your liquidity but your purchasing power due to high prices still puts you on the negative...as such I think cost of living adjustments is what manages the effects of inflation.... I love ivy's money making mindset but not everything financial discussion has to sound grandiose sometimes money habits lie in small things

For no 1, you rinse and pat dry with tissue, for no 2, you wipe them rinse n pat dry with tissue… that’s how my mom taught me, but nowadays I use a hand towel (a specific one for just that area) to pat dry it’s just my preference . Water just makes it cleaner Hope that helps

Also there is a difference beyween living a minimalist /simple life versus deprevation. For example, if you turn off the heat in the name of savings and then now your family members get sick from sleeping in a cold house that's not budgetting that's deprivation.

I now shop at the main market on a monthly basis and buy items like tomatoes, hoho, I blend and freeze them and use for the whole month. Onions CAn last a month, cereals etc. E.g Monthly tomatoes I only spend 350/- I buy 5 for 20bob. I only buy fruits on a weekly.

Guys we also need to understand that cost of living is going up coz of global warming... without rain, water becomes scarce since rivers are drying up. Crops are dying, animals are dying too so at the end of the day even those people at shags are struggling to feed coz our land are dry asf....if rain was in plenty, food would be in plenty and atleast food costs could decrease...

I agree with your dad. Life has always been expensive for every generation of the human race. However, the difference between life now and then is the increase in diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer etc that weren't common then but are now both a rich man and a poor man's disease. Only the wealthy aren't affected by the daily expenses at home. Most of our parents are now diabetic and hypertensive at the age where our grandparents were strong and healthy. Add this to the cost of healthcare, the need to have medical covers etc and you realize that we're quickly getting into the high cost of living in the western countries.
