This was such a fun episode. I have both experiences in getting engaged and married and my thoughts are as follows: 1. When engaged that time is now for real conversations about some of the serious things in life e.g the size of the family, how long you guys should take before starting a family, do you guys want a long/short engagement etc. Don't get married without these conversations. 2. The type of wedding you want can be expensive/inexpensive. Both of you are supposed to support each other in planning and getting resources. Most people think it is the guy who funds the wedding. Thats just too much pressure on someone's son for no reason (unless of course he's a millionaire then why not?).
I grew up NOT wearing jewelry so I never thought of a ring. Infact I imagined I would get my ring finger tattooed instead of a ring. My husband and I spoke about getting married early on in our relationship, we picked out the rings the week leading to our wedding, and the combined cost was about R1,500 (about 11,000 Ks) and I REALLY don't think I want any other. It's interesting to hear a different perspective on this hey. We got married Sep 2019 ❤️
On that last note, ladies please talk about in laws and how to relate with the guys mom and cousins bla bla bla ...boundaries and all.... also please talk about culture and marrying different cultures and how to go about that

interesting I feel it depends on your relationship with said partner. If you viewed the ring as an unconditional gift then it should stay with you. However, if it was viewed as a conditional gift, it goes back to the giver and everyone is restored to the state they were in before the engagement.

Please watu wa committee - stop planning on your friend's money!!! Again, live within your means. You can always do an anniversary party and renew vows 4. Start planning early - you have leverage of time and you can use it to get better offers with suppliers. 5. Some legal advice - ensure you sign contracts with your suppliers... I love what you said about having realistic expectations, especially for African men...it is vital to consider that the man (speaking for my Kenyan brothers) will still pay the bride price (another expense). In American culture, the bride's family funds the wedding ceremony so a man can spend so much of the ring coz that is it he only has to rent or pay for his tux or suit. So for me (Kenyan) when my hubby (he is American) got my ring I felt it was expensive being African I was like if my dad converts this money to Khs he will flip...coz it was more than the dowry my family had asked (and received). that was 26 yrs ago when this engagement thing was still so foreign to us Kenyans. My 25 yr old son got engaged in 2019 and then my daughter in law's family funded the wedding one hundred %. As per his dad's side of the culture, we (groom's family) funded the rehearsal dinner not expensive at all (only about 25 guests). Also, we should consider culture, in some cultures, the engagement ring has more cultural significance.
