- An almost complete overview of the Savotta Kahakka 15L
There is more stuff over on Reddit, it's not just me throwing out ideas and information.
/ savotta
I will show how to attach the Hatka, Askare, and a million other things very soon. It would be too much for this one video.
Speaking of attaching things to the Kahakka bags how well does the 15L attach to other bags in the same manner that the Hatka does. Could the Kahakka 15L beat out the Hatka as a supplemental pouch/pack attaching to larger packs.
One kahakka megavideo with a bunch of timestamps to easiy skip to whichever attachment point you want
PLZ Show us the combination Jäkkari M with the Kahakka 15L👌
Hi Tim, could you try to attach the Kukkaro on the Kahakka 15's lower front row of PALS? I was wondering if this could be done with MOLLE sticks, creating an additional admin pocket with quick release option. Thank you for your consideration!
Tim_Keys,
Subscribed to your channel a couple of days ago.
At 2:00 minutes into this video you say you can ad a hip belt to this pack.
Could you demonstrate that?
I mean, does Savotta make one for this pack as an option? If not who does? Would it have to be sewn in? So far, that’s the only reason I wouldn’t be interested in this pack because it doesn’t have a hip belt. I’d like one as wide as the 25 L. Comes with if that’s possible.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Gary.
Thank you! You do the most comprehensive review of the Savotta products and it’s awesome!
I'm just doing what I wish I saw before, no one ever flips the bag
I found that the butterfly slips into the top plastic slit on many hydration bladders and keeps it from sliding to the bottom of the pouch
Already have the bag but couldn't resist watching all the way through :D great vid Tim!
I got the 25 on my external frame last night and oh boy does it rock. Minimal modding needed, just two loops of paracord/webbing!
Haha thanks for the love my friend. And that sounds very nice, I think I might have to invest in a frame soon
Hi Tim. The German sleeping mat. Wasn't mainly designed prior as a sleeping mat. It' s more like a generell multi purpose mat. Of course you can use them for sleeping, combined with a wood crafted "Jägerbett" or Hunters bed.
This mat got sorted out by the German Bundeswehr. But it still is a very versatile tool for use as Backpack mat, knee- and sitting Pad, Shooting mat and of course sleeping mat.
Thanks for your vids by the way. Hope to see ablotore customization vids. Even on the older Jäkaari and "older" Savotta products.
Thank you for the info, I did not know that before :)
And as for customization of different packs, I have not had to customize too many Savotta products like I have with other brands. If I modify, I will definitely show you all
Hey Tim,
thank you for your videos, i really like your modifications and the way you do your videos. Keep going!
The only problem I see on the 15L is, you can't overpack it. Because on the longer weebing on the 25L, you can let the lid a little bit open.
Great from Europa!
Thank you :) I will keep going for you guys. I always love to hear back that I helped or just entertained for a while.
And the overpacking is something that a few people have mentioned, but I very much prefer the flat closure myself. So far, it is working perfectly for me
Hey! Great review! Could you include fitting tests in future reviews? For example, showing how different bags fit standard items like a 14" laptop, a 0.33L soda can, or other universally known items. This would help give a better sense of their size. Thanks!
I will try, but I am finding it hard to do with a worldwide audience
Great review as always 👍😊 Got mine yesterday, looking forward to use it in all possible ways.
Thank you :) and I too imagine some heavy use with this bag starting immediately
What color did you go with?
@@Tim_Keys I went with Multicam. Think it works with the rest of my Savotta gear (Jääkäri, Askare, Kukkaro) that is brown 😊
Another great review, cheers!
Yesterday I did an overnighter with him, awesome, I'm so happy with it! :)
Nicely done, Tim! Absolutely awesome pack. Bummer on the German pad... That would have been cool with it and the ground sheet.
Thanks man, it's always a pleasure to see you around these parts.
And as for the sleeping pad, I am not too torn up about it. Although you and I are different breeds of rough sleepers. I'm never alone out there, haha my 7 year old would never forgive me. So I am at a bare minimum 25+ liter pack for overnights. When he gets bigger though and can carry a little bit more than water and basic sustainment, that minimum bag size may change
Been waiting for this video, I'm 95% sure I'll get this one anyway but I wanted to hear a "professional" opinion on it first. Dropping a like and comment now for the algorithm, will check back in later and watch the vid :)
Haha I never told my friends I am doing this, and I am starting to get people reaching out saying I popped up in recommendations. I'm still not sure how I feel about it really, I never set out to be a youtuber. I just like my Finnish gear too much
@@Tim_Keys You do bring a very casual, light-hearted yet still professional vibe. Been around enough soldiers to assume you've had some sort of military leadership training, because you just give off those vibes and it works really well for informative content, lol!
I appreciate the sentiment but no official leadership training. My rank was 1 below sergeant, but I got out before advancement and that would have just been a waste of budget. Sending GI Joe to any further training already puts strains on your unit.
Great breakdown Tim. These are great looking packs. On my list.
Nate
Thanks Nate :)
And if I have to admit a favorite kahakka, this 15 has my heart
Subscribed, because of your well thought out reviews! :)
PS: I wish my Jakaari S was made to use with those straps.
Great review bro 👏
I very much appreciate it my friend
Thanks mate love it you have turned me into a savotta fan😊
I'm glad to hear it :) I always joke that it's like graduating to gear university
Got the black one today! So hyped!
Thanks great info.👍👍
Thanks for this very nice review. As always appreciate your videos.
Another Great video Tim!.. was cool to see the hatka, kahakka 15 /25 litre side by side.. was wondering if you could show others. i know you have Jaakari M.. i have M and L myself .. do you have the large xl?
Thanks cool guy :) and unfortunately I don't have the XL, but I plan to do a lot more side by side videos in the future
thanks man, im gonna buy the kahakka 15L now.
Solid choice my friend :)
@@Tim_Keys And i will not forget the happy patch and some extra buckles.
Hell yeah man, you know how to do it
great video thanks
Nice 👍
I'm hoping you also do a G40 sleeping bag liner review and how you use it in combination with other bags. No other videos seem available on that liner. Note that there is an american small company, vertex outdoors, that sells bags made by what appears to be the same manufacturer of the carinthian bags. I bought several because they are able to get them made in a XL long (I'm 6'5"). Vertex seems to have european connections to get these bags. Their midsize bag is exactly the same bag as the carinthia D4, inside loops, insulation, and compression bag. I have several carinthia bags and the vertex bags appear to be the same.
I am trying not to branch out too far, I don't want to become a full time reviewer, but I will see what I can do. I just don't want companies calling me, and some already are.
@@Tim_Keys I understand. Just keep doing what you are doing. No need to respond.
I do believe in Carinthia, so I just may do it for you. I just have to tread very carefully. But my entire year can be summed up like this:
Spring/Fall- Tropen
Summer- G40
Winter- G40 inside Tropen
Thanks, you have given me lots of ideas for the 15l and the 25l ... I couldn't decide, so I got both 😞
Haha you're my kind of guy
Can you maybe do a video about Savottas Colors one day? Comparing them + maybe other popular brands interpretation of the same color(s)
I've just got a 'Brown' Savotta Fannypack, which looks very 'coyote/sand' on the official Product Pictures but quite a lot more greenish irl
I am going to need some help with that, I'm only green. I will send out an alert to the nerds on reddit :)
@@Tim_Keys 🤩
I was looking at the brown rather than black but I'm thinking it's not coyote enough now!
Well done! Does the German sleeping matte fit in the Kahakka15l ? I mean the bag itself, not the pocket?
It will if you put it in at an angle, but I don't recommend it
First... thank you for the video! :) Always looking forward to them... :)
Do you always have to roll the lid three times in order to close it or can you adjust the height somehow (overpack)?
The 202 is a nice daypack as well with its 17l plus little pouch outside. Sure.. you cannot attach something but still... and if you consider the price. 202 plus Askare is cheaper than the 15l I think... ;)
Maybe something for your 202 video... ;)
The Kahakka 15L is not designed for overpacking, you need to fold the top a couple of times for a proper seal and the buckle straps are not adjustable. The 25L on the other hand can be overpacked a bit due to it's more "lid-like" closure system.
@@Savotta Wow. Savotta replying. Pretty cool.
@@Savotta That was fast... thanks Savotta Team! :)
I am seeing a ton of people wanting a 202 video, I will get that to you right after the Kahakka attachments video.
And thank you Savotta for coming in to save the day again, you guys are awesome :) give my love to the customer service team and tell them I'm sorry on behalf of all us Savotta nerds
@@Tim_Keys Thanks Tim! I'm eagerly awaiting the 202 video. I was actually lucky enough to buy the last black one that Varusteleka had in stock.
Great video, thabks for that!
Would those straps work on a keikka? It also has d rings, just not sure if thw spacing on the shoulders side would be too wide
Yes they would, but not for intensely heavy loads like you would have in the 80L Keikka. Plastic hardware at the padded strap base, it's removable (split-bar, modifiable) but you would have to get crafty with metal hardware before I would use it on a heavy 80L
Good point, cheers! And here I was thinking that I had everything I needed from Savotta 🙈
13:05 What's the knife? It looks like a Varusteleka knife but I'm not sure of the size. Does the handle line up well with the top of the pocket on the 25L like it does with the 15L?
That's the Skrama 240. It sticks out a little bit further on the 15L but it is still not entirely exposed
I’m glad to hear it’s made in Estonia. I used to live in Estonia and looking for a backpack made in there
One question, can you fit a 16 inch laptop in the water bag compartment? Maybe you could tell me the dimension of the “German sleeping bag”.
Anyway thank you for the great review! Supporting you from Japan :D
Arigato my friend :)
I don't know exactly about the laptop, but the sleeping pad measurements are 27.5 x 38 x 3.5 cm
If you ask on reddit.com/r/savotta I am sure someone will take care of you better than I can
As an eesti, we may have never met, but we miss you, come back sometime :D
@@Tim_KeysI really appreciate your reply! Thank you❤
@@matimikk2275For sure man!
Happy suunipaev :D
Tim_Keys,
2:00 minutes into video you say you can ad a hip belt to this pack.
Does Savotta have a hip belt for this pack? Does someone else? Does it slide right in to the bottom
opening? Or, does it have to be sewn in? Do you intend to show the hip belt application in a future
video?
I’d have to see the application of the hip belt before I’d buy this one.
Also, would the hip belt be 2” wide?
Thanks in advance for your reply!
Gary.
Savotta does not offer the hip belt but you can very easily make one out of a pack strap or any other webbing. I intend on making one out of a 50mm shoulder strap that reduces to 25mm
@@Tim_Keys,
OK, but will the 50mm width slide into the bottom opening like I assume the one does on the Savotta Kahakka 25L or will it have to be sewn in?
Gary.
Nothing I show you guys will ever involve sewing. What I am planning is using an existing shoulder strap from Varusteleka, cut in half. It is 50mm, reduced to 25mm by metal rings for connectivity. A wonderful piece to have on hand no matter what.
Does the Savotta Foam Pad and the German sleeping pad fit in the bag pocket where the grey foam thingi is inserted?
I am sorry for the late reply, I knew the answer but I wanted to properly test it for sure in the morning for you. Unfortunately, they do not fit in the 15L back panel slot
First comment :)
I tried to like a comment right before yours, but I accidentally hit remove when the option screen changed too fast, I wish I caught their name I would reach out and explain what happened. I am going to be thinking about that all day now.
@@Tim_KeysI'm not sure how that all works but is the comment author still able to see their removed comment? The only comment I've seen before this one sorting by new is my own and I've been refreshing every short while to watch the comments come in.
Same as you, I am not sure how this all works yet. I don't know if they still see it. But I found it easier to keep the page open on the youtube studio app and on a phone browser app so I don't have to keep switching and losing my place. The accidental removal happened on the phone browser app
Sorry mate but I Identify as First 😊
@@Tim_Keys So I switched accounts and sorted by new and my comment isn't visible so I guess it's mine that got deleted. Hopefully there's some way to get it back because it was first comment by 13 minutes and actually had substance to it instead of just saying 'first!'. Anyway no hard feelings. Looking forward to seeing how well these Kahakka bags attach to other bigger bags in the attachment video you're talking about.
