I remember Danny saying somewhere about Joe Zawinul being his greatest influence as a musician. As guitarist, I’ve always looked up to Carey in a similar way. Not just thinking of him as a incredibly gifted drummer, but also one of the greatest musicians of our time who constantly remains studious in his craft and other diverse interest of his. The maturity and musical depth are evident in both his playing and writing… and that doesn’t just come from practicing alone. It comes from exploring life and constantly learning and growing as both a musician and person.

Nice groove at the beginning of the video, also love the melodic tom solo themes. Would love to watch Danny up close just to learn as much as I can! PS His setup seems to work quite nicely for him, with all the drums, cymbals, and pads all within reach & placed very ergonomically. Thanks Danny for this video footage!
Oh my fucking God. Let's get this straight. Hmm. Rocking a new setup, too. I wonder what his fascination with that rototom is. It's about the only thing on his kit that doesn't make much sense to me.
@@colinburroughs9871 Huh. Now I'm wondering why I didn't think of that. The symmetry of his kit and the central remote hat scream Bruford, and I knew he's a huge Bruford fan. I just didn't connect rototoms to Bruford, apparently. Brains are weird. Thanks, bud!

His dynamic control is literally insane
To your point, Danny is a great admirer of Billy Cobham who is a Zen Master of dynamic control.
I could watch Danny play drums all day. He's buttery-smooth with it.
That snare sounds amazing
His doubles are so disgustingly tight. A true master.

Pretty cool to see Danny playing a Mike Clark type of groove at the beginning

Bill Bruford. Danny likes Bill a lot and took the remote hi hat and 70's roto tom to the right from Bill (and the overwhelming amount of e drums too).
