Rolex’s Future Classics: Which Watches Will Be In-Demand Next? | Around the Crown

- Paying for past discoveries can be an exercise in frustration, what would it be like to uncover the next big collectible Rolex reference? In episode two of our latest series, hosts Tim Mosso and Mike Manjos predict which models from Rolex’s collection could be the hottest in 20-years time.
Mike anticipates the unsung Air King or Milgauss Z-Blue will explode in value once discontinued. The Eisenkiesel Day-Date and Meteorite GMT-Master are also on his radar as prospective top models.
Tim foresees the once-iconic Cellini Prince making a comeback, and believes the controversial Yacht-Master II may prevail. The limited supply of the blue dial 2018 GMT-Master II “Pepsi” and blue dial 2017 Sky-Dweller lead Tim to believe these one-year variants will surge in demand over the next two decades.
Which models do you think will be the most popular in 20 years? Comment below and don't forget to like and subscribe.

Great discussion! I agree about the Milgauss. Such a gorgeous and historically significant watch. I wonder if it will be getting an update soon?
Brilliant conversation! So much knowledge in one room!
Great video guys. I do think the YachtMaster II in stainless steel will become a must have with future collectors once it’s discontinued.
Oh dang Tim throwing out a GNX reference 👍🏻 Turbo power FTW 🙌🏻 and a ceramic turbine wheel at that 😉 Tim you continue to impress me with your car knowledge
I thank WatchBox for honoring my suggestions over the past 12 months to get Mike & Tim together to discuss the watch industry and this video is pure gold. It was the quickest 22 minutes and I could have listened to their discussion for a full hour. Love to see you both do this once per quarter/ 4times a year. Mike brings his expertise on market trends and Tim brings his expertise on watches. Great way for WatchBox to begin 2022.
This is actually a very refreshing discussion, rare in contemporary discussion of Rolexes. Thanks lads
Great discussion! I gotta say seeing those sunglasses with high gloss lenses backwards on your head while discussing luxury items really made me laugh though ;D thanks for that little touch!
Fabulous discussion. In the end, all that matters is that you love what’s on your wrist!
True, but sadly it’s almost only about ‘investment’ watches and not interested watch from iwc, jlc, omega… it’s the flipper watches 99% of the time. It’s like watching stock market talk…
Great watch talk Tim and Mike!
Please keep it up.
Thx
I bought my two tone with my heart and I wear it every day, I love it! A great discussion, I love this channel. 🇬🇧
More videos please!! Such great viewing. Thank you
Simply fantastic … well done guys
I think the YM 37mm (268622) Rhodium dial is one of if not the best watch from rolex. It can be dressed up or down and is a very timeless piece.
Amazing retrospective!!!!! You guys should vlog about the ups and downs of Rolex collecting. From the pocket watch craze in the 70’s/80’s, to the Bubble-Back burst in the 90’s (those collectors went broke), the late 80’s Italian vintage Daytona/Submariner horde, the beginning of online Internet influencer publications/UA-cam channels, and the rise of the Rolex hype & grey market speculators.
I agree that would be so interesting! Hah, Kevin maybe you should start a channel about that! Sounds like you know what you are talking about!
Great episode guys. Thank you. Plus a very timely final message from you Tim. Keep up the great work!
This is a great series. Tim and Mike have a good back and forth.
Plenty of deep cuts. I would love another episode that focuses more on the not so popular modern Rolex models, not just investment pieces. Some examples for me is the concentric OP and DJ models, Daytonas and Sky Dwellers with Arabic numerals, the palm and fluted motif DJ36.
great video, can you please add images of the watches you're talking about. Just makes it easier to understand what you're talking about.
This discussion was great! Please more episodes of this series.
Tim musso you're the best in the watch reviews business. I really like your interview with Philippe Dufour but why those sunglasses on your head? Is it your trade mark?
Keep up the good work.
Hello, nice content here. I have a suggestion to make. When you mention a time piece can you pls write it out on the screen also. That way it helps less knowledgeable people know exactly the name and tag of the watch which makes it easier to find. Thank you.
Please keep making these!!
00:00 Hi I’m Tim he is Mike got me 😁😁
Great intro
Fabulous guys , great content...they know what they're talking about.
Sunday morning coffee and this video. Both great!
Good job guys to be honest…. Also I have two of yours picks ….. the amazing Milgauss Zblue and the Airking
This is wonderful. Excellent work, Tim and Mike!
Phenomenal conversation. Need that Cellini Prince!
Looking forward to the next episode.
Very 👍👍😊😊 good discussion.
Great information and presentation. Thanks for this. I’m not the biggest fan of Rolex, but seeing some rare, uncommon specimens is bringing me around.
Thank you! Great Informative video....nice to see you both
This was great!
Tim wearing some old man New Balances talking about expensive watches 😂
Curious to ask both Mike and Tim what they think of the value of Rolexes with green dials in 20 years.
Excellent contribution! Thanks a lot 👏🏼
Superb discussion boys! Finally not a Rolex bashing show. Also happy to hear all the historical highlights of the brand ,specially for the younger collectors to learn that there's more to Rolex than just the Hype!
What about ym2 white gold?
The yacht master II showed was a steel model though
4:52 incorrect. Cheapest one is trading at 80K, in other words 39K above retail price…
The Rolex cellini prince is the most beautiful of the whole collection ever
Couple of genuine fellas with honest opinions.
I just got my 1st Rolex today got the call from my local boutique yesterday (unexpectedly)
Airking it is.
Milgaus is next in blue, will await that call. Hopefully not too soon though. I’m keen, my wallet is not…
Keep it up guys.
Tim, you’re going to go so far.
Love your stuff.
Congrats on your first rolex. It NEVER gets old putting on a watch with the coronet logo, never.
@@daz311x im also waiting for the air king at 5 dealers, but just recieved the call for a datejust wimbeldon jubilee, really hyped :D
Well dine fellas, well done!
Views on the submariner hulk?
Very enjoyable guys, well done 👍
Thanks for the automotive analogies Tim, helps car guys who are learning the watch market. Another aspect to discuss about long term Rolex investing is to “buy the dip”. Keep your powder dry in case there’s another stock market or housing crash. I bought my 116500LN Panda and 718 Cayman GT4 in the summer of 2020 when premiums and demand were collapsing. Very glad I did.
Tim is like a watch fountain of information.! Good going you have obviously found your niche.
Hi,Tim…
I have very interested VS battle and You must made this great compare!
-Breguet marine chronograph titanium blue dial VS
VC overseas chronograph blue dial stainles steel …
-Breguet marine rose gold chronograph silver dial VS VC overseas chronograph rose gold silver dial..
Breguet marine alarme musicale dual time blue dial VS VC overseas GMT/dua time ..
I belive that Breguet Marine can win in this battle vs VC overseas …100% its more quality and more beautifull timepice ..
Breguet is by my opinion bether finished timepice but big respect to VC,they are the best in ultra complication timepices rank !
And for the end great competition :
F.P. Journe seconde morte vertical tourbillon vs Breguet marine equation marchante !
Why this two : Because they are 2 most respected watchmaker in diferent time …
F.P. Journe find inspiration in Breguet pocket timepice when he made his first timepice and it was tourbillon !
Breguet and F.P.Journe dont want poincon de Geneve because its not good for precision of timepice because of hand polishing between every theat gear..
This 2timepice have the same retail price and 2 very interested tourbillon’s…I respect them but on this competition my voice will go to Breguet because its more beautiful, its have 2great complication more but I must say that I respect F.P. Journe a lot ,its great timepice, investmnt ..but in this Challenge I will before fus Breguet because is more complicated timepice ..
At 14.40 when Tim sounds EXACTLY like Bill Maher. Brilliant
Love it
great and all, but what's with the shades??
Wonderful episode gentlemen. I would add the serti dial two-tone Submariner with the silver dial. Very scarce, very odd, and strikingly beautiful.
My picks are white gold Yacht Master 42 (only trading about $6k over retail), Rolex Cellini Moonphase rose gold, and Daydate yellow gold 36mm Tiffany (turquoise) dial because of the current craze (go look it up). Great video gents! We’ll hold you to it even in retirement.
Imagine a collection of all of these picks today in one watchbox. It would be considered the “Rolex Collection of Misfits Watches!” But it would be a damn cool one.
I hope the OP 41 green goes up because it’s the only Rolex I own. No plans to sell though
TurnOGraph 36mm must be a future collector.
It may just be me, i don't think some of the images shown match the models that were discussed. I still enjoyed the show
Great show!
I just wish I'd bought that 4.2 E Type that i was offered for £650 back in 1975
I have 2 watches... a 124060 Sub and a Hamilton Khaki field mechanical... wear the Rolex daily and the Hamilton on my motorcycle.
When I saw the z blue Milgaus on someone's wrist I was kind of disappointed. The blue appeared very drab. I imagine in brighter light it pops, but unfortunately the light level in the airplane wasn't enough to bring out the color.
Dials can look a lot different in different lighting. My OP 41 goes from bright green to basically black depending on the lighting
It’s because the beautiful blue dial is masked behind the green crystal. A strange design choice.
Thanks Tim. My question: when will there be an Online video platform only for Rolex, called 👑RolexTube for example ?
I'm going to get a white gold GMT meteorite dial if it kills me.
Believe you me, get the 36mm two-tone explorer and thank me in 20 years from now.
Would it kill you to show some stock photos?
My pics would be, Blue dial white gold GMT. Platinum day date 2 black face. First generation white gold sky dwellers .< wow Tim has taste>
The blue dial looks too much like a regular Oyster steel GMT.
@@vika0194 The blue face changes the watch completely. White Gold also has a lustre not captured by a photo.
@@MrDaymien1 It looks black when it’s dark. So to me it’s too similar.
Meteorite GMT trading closer to 100k in Europe 😞
The 2015 - 2020 OPs will go on to great things
Excellent!
Question - if you're seeing the meteorite GMT trade at about 20k over retail, why is Watchbox asking for 95k for the same watch?
Any 36mm is going to become a collectible
what about rolex YM40 126621? why nobody talking about that beauty?
TIM " THE Z blue is my favorite Rolex" Mike "I didn't know that"......... Clearly Mike has never watched a Tmosso watch video. 😂
Beauty of rolex is best appreciated in real life, not pixels, on the wrist. The more you wear it,the more quirks and easter eggs you find.
100% i think that’s the case for all watches to truly appreciate them you have to see them in person and hopefully be able to wear them as intended
Although the red grape 39mm was a short production run, it was still produced for a much longer period than the white and black dial OP 39s. White also being quite rare in terms of Rolex dials, I believe the 39mm white OP will be the big collector piece 20 years from now. I also believe the 39mm Explorer Mk2 is a future collector piece. The Air King will also be very desired in the future, despite being one of the ugliest watches ever produced in my very humble opinion
I wouldn’t be surprised if Rolex reintroduce the Explorer In 39mm.
I like the air king I don’t get why everyone calls it ugly lol it’s like 95% of what an explorer looks like but with a few extra numbers
@@WatchUnwind And a green seconds hands, green text, a beefy case, a dial that doesn't make sense... not hating. I really do understand why people love it and its quirkiness. I simply find it fugly. Not a huge fan of the Milgauss either. The explorer is purer, cleaner, classier, boring... in my opinion a much better watch, and even at 39mm, a quintessential Rolex.
But hey, people wear and like what they want. No judging here, just sharing opinions
@@m.e5544 when you put it that way I can see where your coming from 😂
@@WatchUnwind Just subbed to your channel btw
White face milgauss will be the one to have, mark it
Good Lord, hopefully he is back in Philly and says something about football, otherwise he would loose touch.
Hey Gel, isn’t that the guy who goes back to Philly every week 🤔??
His Giants are NOTa future classic! Lol
@@tonypiloseno4585 that was mean! but accurate
Rolex is a study in hype. John Goldberger's 100 Superlative Rolex shows what Rolex used to be. A company that made amazing watches. But they have no real high horology heritage. Their movements were outsourced to a wholly separate company and essentially rebranded as Rolex. The same with their dials and bracelets. Compare to A. Lange where "every screw is ours" so to speak. At some point new management saw outsourcing everything while not making a grand complication was not acceptable if they planned to escalate pricing. So they quietly bought their outsourcing partners thus completing their fake in-house heritage. The quality finally matched the pricing...until this absurd artificial supply reduction. A company that is the epitome of mass produced luxury selling over a million watches per year all of the sudden decides to turn their authorized dealers into professional paint drying observers. They even have the audacity to ban customers for flipping a watch from a mass producer. Save up for a Vacheron or Patek.
P.s.
Skydweller...if Invicta made dials for Rolex. A dive watch with a fluted dial. It's like the guy wearing the tuxedo t shirt to the wedding was a watch.
Air-King 116900 for the win!
Simple as that👍
The original Air King was definitely tied to WWII aviation. It was issued in honor of RAF pilots who successfully fought off the Luftwaffe over the Battle of Britain. Pilots principally used watches at that period to tell time not navigation. The AK was large by watch standards during that period. Cheers
The sub The GMT Pepsi and the Daytona are the greatest watches ever from Rolex
They are definitely up there for sure
As an owner of both I have to agree!!
So we’ll done.
He can’t be back in Philly. With the ‘Noreaster I’m sure he’s stuck in Connecticut. Good thing the Giants’ season is mercifully over.
😂😂 I see dealers laugh behind his back on the watch shows..
In the end if you own a Rolex you wear and love that’s all that matters 😎!
100% happy to have joined the Rolex club
@@WatchUnwind be careful, buying Rolex can be addicting-personal experience 😎.
@@underachievingwatchcollect1878 😂 for real. I waited 1.5 years to get my OP 41 green which was a lot of money and a big deal for me. I’m already showing my wife the other roles models and asking her what one I should try to get next. She thinks I’m insane
@@WatchUnwind I just subscribed to your channel-always like talking watches with enthusiasts. I’m itching to get another Rolex. I’m on the list( expressed interest whatever) on a couple but I need to talk to my guy-haven’t got a call in 2 years.
@@underachievingwatchcollect1878 awesome brother I appreciate it 🙏 I love talking watching man I am down to talk anything it’s fun and that’s why I started my own channel to have my own little community going. I gave them a pretty big list on a lot of models I’m just like hey I know it takes awhile so please call me if you get any of these in. I was picky about my first Rolex but not as picky on my next since there are so many cool models
regarding the MG GV, the black is much much more original (multicolored index + second hand) and so funcky compare to the Zblue guys: it's a mirorball especially with polished centered links! it was the 1st one and less popular compare to the Zblue. Which means less bought, more rare and will be more searched and desired in the future! And a lot of artist have choosen the Black GV: it"s not for "basic taste". ;-)
Sea dweller 43 red line will be discontinued most likely. And they’re gonna go up like crazy
Can someone burn Tim's sunglasses?
*Tiger Woods wearing James Cameron at the Host of Genesis Invitational.*
*But Most of you Millennial girls dont have a wrist that can support a 1/2 Pound Watch*
Bitcoin has not sailed. It is the ship you better be on from now on. Saying with this the Omega on my wrist I bought from watching this channel.
I am not sure your sunglasses on your melon doing a serious video is a good look Tim..
Those GMT Meteorites are already trading from $80k to $105k. They are by far the most limited production Rolex (excluding gem set) so I don't see how this watch's value doesn't skyrocket from here. It's a no-brainer.
Prolly too expensive to speculate it for the normal guy on the street I guess
4 months ago they went for 60-65K. So it’s for sure rising. He was way off when he said 20K over retail, it’s selling at 39-40K above. However the Daytona meteorite is much rarer, hence 120K above retail.
Lol, in 5 years we’ll look at this video and call him an idiot for saying we missed Bitcoin
Air king!!! Will be discontinued.
Tim, why do always have sunglasses on your head…
Great discussion. Your sunglasses are insanely distracting. Did you just jump off a kiteboard?
What is on their wrists in this episode? 🤔
Tim, you are absolutely one of the preeminent watch scholars out there and one of the most knowledge people on a single subject that I’ve ever seen, but it’s hard to take you seriously with the sunglasses. Hope those will exit the stage soon. Otherwise, a good video and discussion.
Oyster perpetual stella dials and Milgauss is the next hit.
"Stella" dials have already been a hit for 18 months now, since its launch.
These oyster perpetual are already crazy my green one is selling at more than double retail
James Cameron…
imo, that GMT in blue, looks ugly.
Ugly. Rare. Desirable. Tudor P01. Got it. lol
Nooooooooooo, I thought nice a new episode.but please stop with the Rolex click bait….. 🤮 future classics sounds a lot like investment advice on new watches you can buy from your gray dealer network and make some money then talking about at least 10 year old watch which can BECOME future classic. Please😬
chaps if you sat slightly to the side you can post a thumbnail to the other of each watch whilst you talk about each ..
