  • There's special cars on the market, but sometimes they're unappreciated. The 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce is one of them. Luxury sedans with a four cylinder usually lack an exilerating driving experience, but the Alfa Romeo Giulia's Italian heritage shines, as it's fun handling, impressive performance, and inspiring looks makes it one of the most intruiging cars out there today. But is it better than a BMW 330i, Audi A4, or a Mercedes Benz C300? Let's find out!
Huge thank you to Boston Motorsports Alfa Romeo for providing the 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce for this review!

One of your remarks that "this car will only be fully be appreciated once it is no longer on the market", is a thought that i have also had.
As a delighted owner of the Veloce and a lifelong Alfista, i have very mixed feelings about the market's reception of this sensational car. On the one hand, Alfa is a niche brand for car enthusiasts, so to be one of the happy few to see the light and enjoy this vehicle is part of the game. On the other hand, it is a shame that the market "doesn't get it" and hasn't rewarded Alfa Romeo with larger sales volumes of the Giulia (be it the Veloce or other versions).
To drive this car and not bump into yet another Giulia every 5 minutes gives it/you an extra special feeling, but the flip side is that Alfa may (have to) wait a while before bringing yet another fabulous car of this kind on the market, because it can't afford this kind of efforts on a regular basis and/or the owning group (Stellantis) may not allow it to continue this way.
To anyone out there who reads this: do yourself a favour, drive Alfa!

      Sad but true!
Instead, car buyers rewards manufacturers like Volkswagen despite VW emission scandal.
Here in Europe car buyers of German manufacturers are faithful fanatics.
"What comes from Germany is worth it weight in gold for them" but rest is crap for them.
And Ive said this before and come up with it myself, how do they think....
"If German car gets broken it is a coincidence, if Alfa gets broken it is a crap car."

It's a shame this car isn't taking over the market. Classic Alfas you buy with your heart, this is one that you buy with your heart and brain. It's so far beyond what the competition is offering, it's rediculous. The fact that this isn't doing it means Alfa as a brand will not make it. The saddest part is once the brand is in its grave, sportcar lovers will lament its demise while driving their BMWs.

What a great review. I’ve owned my Giulia Ti Sport for 3 years and it’s been 100% reliable and thrilling each and every day. I’ve considered a G70 and CT5-5 as a lease end replacement but I can honestly see myself moving to a 2022 Veloce when the time comes in a month or so. Thanks again for recognizing this car’s attributes. Our other car is an M240 which is awesome too but not nearly as fun to drive.

Excellent review. You didn't, however, mention another important factor in its superb performance and handling which is its exceptionally light weight - only 1429kg for the Veloce Q2. This means its competitors are carrying the equivalent of two more large adults at all times. It's been achieved by using aluminium rather than steel for all four doors, the front wings and the engine hood. You could also have mentioned the perfect balance which has been achieved by mounting the gearbox at the rear. Together with the sharp steering, the suspension system, the powerful brakes, the comfort and the superb driving position you have a near perfect and highly practical car whose 280hp turbo engine is bound to delight enthusiastic drivers. The looks of the car are an added bonus. I've been an Alfa owner and driver for over 30 years and I intend to drive my Veloce for many more years. Thanks for the review.

If it had a German badge, it would’ve sold like hot cakes. If something goes wrong with the German brands, all is forgiven. But if it is an Alfaromeo, look out. People!! The tragedy of BMW, Audi and Mercedes is that even their M, AMG and S “lite” cars don’t drive as well as the Giulia. Sure they’re faster (in the case of the Audi S4/S5, not even by that much), but going fast in a straight line gets boring quickly. Even the M340i doesn’t feel as good as the Alfa. And really, there aren’t many situations when you can use all of the BMWs’ 400hp.
The tragedy with Alfa is that there isn’t another V6 option with around 350hp to compete with the others. Even without that option though, based on the driving experience, I’m about to lease a ‘23 Estrema. They’re just such amazing and beautiful cars. And you can get them in red!

    • @AP-cc1uw
      @AP-cc1uw Рік тому

I should add that my budget will allow for an M340i or C43. They just don’t engage at the same level which is really too bad. Someone for gods sake make a car with the Giulia’s steering and handling but with a 325-375hp.

Don't think it is the Giulia people are avoiding as much as the AR itself. And not even reliability issues, that might be a bit overblown, but the after purchase support, abhorring relations with customers even by the company itself (not just local dealers), limited efforts in meeting the market and it's demands - from marketing to options available to no feet sales etc. (that end up flooding the second hand market with cheaper and more varied options, as well as keep costs down through much bigger productions). Specially in the sedan segment that is dying outside corporate buyers.
Giulia is more emotionally appealing, but BMW 3 is a similarly great drive with much better support, much more dealers much closer, much bigger second-hand market, much more options bot in the basic form (if we include very important and more sold caravans that AR did not want to invest into and the related 4 series, even the RWD 2 that is based on the 3), more interior options, more engine options ...

From an unbiased prospective, the S3 is the better car between the two when it comes to performance and interior tech. It’s the better option overall at that price point.
With that said, personally I like the Giulia’s playful handling and cornering ability as the S3 is going to have the typical German weighted steering, but also I like the Giulia’s size compared to the S3 specifically for the interior as there’s a center console and the bolstering of the seats hold you in place.

love the looks and with 400hp i could justify the price. otherwise bmw m240i wipes the floor with it or spend an extra 7-10k and get an is500 f sport perf.

I was in love with my Giulia and Alfa Romeo as a brand, however, I will never again buy/recommend another Alfa Romeo in my life. I had the brake by wire system fail on me and it caused me to crash and total the car. They sent someone from Bosch to diagnose the vehicle and in the charts it clearly showed that something malfunctioned (brakes were slammed 2 seconds before the impact at 40 MPH and it took more than 1.5 seconds for the speed to start going down.) Stellantis told me that they were not going to take responsibility for it and that I needed to have my insurance pay for the vehicle. Absolute garbage. I will never recommend this car brand to anyone again!
