The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia may look great, but in Veloce form, there is serious depth of talent under the skin. A resolved chassis, lightweight engine, standard limited slip differential, and a far better-made interior than before mean the new Giulia deserves consideration.
But would you take a punt on an Alfa Romeo when the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class exist? Or does Alfa’s own Stelvio SUV make more sense to you?

I just bought a new Giulia Ti (280HP). She is AMAZING!! Probably the last great ICE saloon you can buy!!! Analog gauges, check!, great handling (the Ferrari DNA is fully evident), check!, more that adequate power and acceleration for street legal road speeds, check!, excellent interior, check!, decent fuel economy, check! Comfortable long range tourer, check! Sporty enough to take on the weekend back roads, check! And she is a LOOKER! Always check back when I park her!
This is a do it all super sedan!! Get one before you cannot anymore!!
I have a Giulia Ti as well. I sometimes think about how valuable it would be to have a Quadrifoglio once ICE is no longer available...
Metoo:-)
when i had a 2018 ti sport 2 years ago, dark grey metallic, 5 hole rims, yellow calipers, tan interior man that spec was pretty under the sunset. when the warm colors from the sunset bled into the dark grey flakey paint, with the yellow calipers popping out from behind those gorgeous rims, you had to spot and stare. under great lighting, the lines on the front end and sides really stand out
Same the Ti was the best value after looking through all the different ones available. Love the double moon roofs.
Why do you keep on saying 'check' after every point you make? It's really immature, you really need to grow up.
Gorgeous........simply one of the most attractive cars around.
You must be Italian 🤣🤣
@@hoey3510 ..nah. Just good taste.
Best looking
@@hoey3510 it reall is a good looking car unlike the new Korean cars looks like a whale
Agree
Giulia is the proof that people does not care anymore about cars handling; instead they want stupid gadgets and big screens. Great review Tom and greetings from 🇮🇹
With 80-90 km/h speed limits on back roads why would anyone care for the handling? No one except the car testers take these to a race track
@@andreaaltana2176 dont forget racing through your town after midnight driving around your drunken friends and girlfriends 😂
@@zsoltpapp3363 ever driven on a mountain road full of corners, maybe without ever exceeding 70 km/h? That's what these cars are great for. No one talking about "handling" on a car like this want to go 250 km/h on a straight road.
@@gianmarcofalasca7448 Exactly! Agree 100%
@@zsoltpapp3363 handling isn't just about speed. On a 50 km road a car like the Giulia still provides a better driving experience. Even the kids in the back will enjoy it more.
I'm not normally a lover of green on cars but the deep green on that is gorgeous as are the proportions, it is a handsome car.
Nah fly green eugh
It's beautiful. Like a racing green.
I own BMW 3 series. But always my heart goes after Alfa Romeo. I owned in the 80 s Alfa Sud. A car that was cheap to buy but what a car!!! The best car. The best fun i ever had.
I have owned/driven the BMW 335d and 340i, Audi S4, Golf R, Mercedes C300, the Gillian Veloce is so much better.
Gillian 😂
Have you owned one?
He actually on two and same car
I own a 2020 build Veloce in this exact colour combination.
This is my third Alfa Romeo (2x Giulietta QV’s prior to this) and I continue to fall in love with this brand. Such an engaging drive and I’m putting far too many kms on it! Gets loads of compliments and with looks like this, it’s no wonder. Absolutely love this car.
Have you still got your veloce? Do you want to sell it?
@@hayleythorpe5696 Hi Hayley, I’m in Perth, Western Australia. I plan on holding onto my Veloce for another 18 months, then I’ll probably drop some coin on a QV. Good luck with the search.
You basically expressed what I’ve been thinking for the last couple of years. Just got myself the Giulia QV and I think this will be my last great ICE car. God I love this car.
I own a 2020 Giulia Veloce in that same Visconte Verde. It has been an absolute pleasure to drive I think I am in love.
I have one for 4 years and definitely is the best sport saloons cars with the best driving preforming.
I'm thinking about possibly buying one. Just wondered what it's like to live with day to day, have you had any issues with it?
@@keithhobbs1 no big problems small things if you buy 2.2 dizel just look when you change the engine oil must be 3.6 l. With petrol 2.0 engine no problems and buy avtomatic…
@@keithhobbs1 I've got a 2018 model and it continues to be brilliant! No major issues, probably the worst was the sunroof sticking ajar when a small clip broke but FCA were excellent to deal with warranty wise. They even replaced my dash because i didn't like a small imperfection in the leather where no one could really see it. Here in Australia over a particularly hot summer day (42+) where it was baking all day on the asphalt at work it did throw a couple of electrical gremlins till it cooled down but that was a single instance. Head over to the giulia forums to get more information from other owners.
I have a Guilia for two years and have no problems at all. Lovely to drive and to look at.
Drove this and a 330 M Sport two months ago. Partner wanted the 330i for its badge, I wanted the Alfa for its emotion and telepathic handling. The rear end just so easily would release but in such a controlled manner. The BMW we bought and it's great, but I'm getting the Giulia soon, I won't be left with a battery powered sports car at my age (40).
I love mine and highly recommend it. This thing handles better than some porches I’ve driven. I’ve had more expensive cars that didn’t get half of the attention my Alfa gets.
Car manufacturers need to do more beige/green/blue/red interiors like this. Black and grey leather is so boring. Colours sell cars
Isn’t it a lovely spec!
We own one! We love it!! 🏁♥️♥️♥️ much preferred over its competition - Germans, Brits, Japanese who ever💪🏽
I can honestly just look at it for hours without getting tired it very good looking
Alfa make THE most responsive cars - the steering in my 12yr old 159ti is so sharp .. it is point and shoot, same with the throttle - she still goes like stink and pulls like a train! This veloce is 100% my next motor!
Loved my 14 year old 159 ti but the Veloce is truly superb. This review sums it up very well indeed.
Arguably the best review of this car I've ever seen. Perfect combination of technical elements with the driving feel. Amazing vehicle and review.
Love the green exterior colour and tan leather interior combo! Especially enjoyed your review and how emotionally connected you were with the car during the drive... as one should be when driving an Alfa Romeo!🙂
The vigour of an Alitalia flight attendant on a friday night. Spoken with experience.? Priceless . Beautiful car. Great review as always.
I bought a 2019 Veloce about 4 weeks ago, before that I had a 147 Sport Q2 diesel for over 8 years. I never had reliability issues with the 147 and it was a joy to drive... the Veloce is MUCH better. Buying at 2 years old halved the price, total bargain! Great review, completely agree the comments about the auto and the handling. (My Veloce is Alfa Red, because it just had to be.)
Thank you for the most intelligent and sensible and accurate road test of a Giulia that I have found anywhere on the web. And you are so right about how this may be the last high water mark ICE sport sedan the world will see before governments mandate us into electrical appliances posing as cars.
Great review. If you want something that stands out a bit more on the road than the usual German cars you see everywhere, this is a great option. I love the fact that you don't see too many on the road, it makes owning one much more special.
Absolutely beautiful motor car. For me , the best looking medium saloon on the road. Very important what you said Tom at the end, regarding the last IC car for people to buy. I'm thinking the same way and am looking to buy a car that I will keep for a long time. Being in Australia though, it could definitely reduce the choices available. Great review as well mate.
Congrats to the reviewer. Absolute masterpiece transmitting the sensations at the wheel.
Fantastic review! You put into words what is so difficult to verbalize about how special the Giulia Veloce is to drive.
The balance of the front and rear, the communicative steering, the feel of the steering wheel and
seats and the almost immediate response of the engine and transmission
are magical to experience. A little more technical detail on the aluminum subframes, doors, hood
(bonnet ?)and the double wishbone front suspension would reinforce why this car is so special to
drive. I drive a 19 Ti Sport Q4 in the U.S. and it is a joy to drive regardless of the road or speed.
Every word in your review was spot on for me. I agree with your priorities, praise and criticism.
Thank you!
Loved the video - especially the part at 1:40 where I could see not only the camera guy, but the other guy who looked bored playing with his phone...HAHAHAHA.
Chasing cars is, to be quite serious, one of the better car review destinations anywhere.
The Guilia is equally one of the best sporting sedans on the market at the moment.
I owned the 2020 version of this car, with Q4, and it is absolutely a benchmark, I think the quality control you talk about was only in the first year models. thanks for taking the time to review it. I really think that with the veloce, alfa romeo made a model that it sits in a class of if its own.
Just gorgeous. Perfect tan interior!
Great review and very well described of its handling. Nicely done.
When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, it's Amore. I feel like we got to come along on Tom's romantic getaway. Love it. Love the car.
This is such a great review.
Best looking interior I've ever seen
That colour combination is stunning..
Thoughtful and thorough review. I've owned a 2020 Stelvio Lusso for 7 months, 7,500 miles. As you know, it's built on the Giulia chassis and the interior is nearly identical. Perhaps you called it the elevated, wagon version of the Giulia? That's pretty much it. My driving experience is very similar to what you've described and I recommend the Stelvio as a larger family alternative to the Giulia, without sacrificing much of the driving experience and performance. It's also a beautiful car. I've had nothing but fun with the Stelvio, which has been flawless to date. Thanks for your video and thanks to Alfa Romeo for making these amazing cars.
A beauty and a great alternative to the usual German options. Alfa for me! Great review greetings from 🇬🇧
Tom , big words in this review-You have made me realize that the last truly great combustion cars are probably not far away. Isn’t that a shame……😭
Well done 👍
Your presentation is so much better than the caradvice rival……well done!:)
Really excellent review, and yes you should buy one. I've had a 2019 Veloce for two years and absolutely love it, but you do need to keep a sharp eye out for those ever present speed cameras!
Hi, Italian here and owner of Giulia 2.0 too. And yes, I confirm our roads DEFINITIVELY requires good suspensions as quite often they aren't glassy at all :D Nice color and interiors on yours! Congrats!
What a beautiful machine. It lends itself to a stationwagon format way more than the BMW or Mercedes. If only!
After long long time best has arrived and drop dead gorgeous
Awesome video Tom as always
Beautiful car. I’m going to get one and keep it forever.
I bought one, same Visconti green and tan interior just two weeks ago. Love it but can't drive it while locked down. I test drove a bunch of BMWs including the 330i but this car is so much better, so much more interesting, so much more nimble. I am happy as!
Stunning machine. Wish they sold more of them
Great review of the car here in Australia. I'm an Alfa owner (1972 2000 GTV) and there is something about the way Alfa's drive and handle. I've driven the 2018 Veloce spec but not the updated version which I have no doubt, is better. BTW, love the spec of this car!
Spot on review!
Awesome car, brilliant colour combination. Would make a fantastic final petrol engined daily driver
thanks for this awesome review 👍🏽
great review mate, thank you!
That green tho with the team interior😍
One of the most beautiful and attractive car available today. Superb review.
A very thorough review. I’m subbed now.
Stunning
The answer is yes it’s better than the BMW. The P Zero tires it comes with are total garbage. I switched to continental extreme contact and also went 10mm wider in the rear. Big improvement.
Great review! Thanks... This is exactly what I look for in a car!
Best review I have seen on this vehicle.
Great video thanks. Love the tan leather interior 👍
What a fantastic review …getting a alfa soon
Tom, this car suits you perfectly!
very objective, nice review, tom! as a german, i own a new giulia veloce my own for half a year now (13.000 km so far). every aspect, that has been pointed out here, fits perfectly. i am super happy with this vehicle, it is just great pleasure to drive it. especially the unrivalled sportive, intuitve handling.
ww is the one who seesaw s
this is a bit kryptic@@lunganindlovu972 . could you explain, please?
Thanks for posting.
Bmw drives you, but You DRIVE Alfa. Love the Alfa
Great review of a beautiful car 👍
Great review!
Excellent review!👍🏻
Great review, thanks!!! The last great car for all of us who do not want an iPad on wheels!!!!
Fantastic review.
Wonderful cars...emotional drivin at its best!🤩👍
This and the bluw , recently saw the blue with tan. Epic color. Wish it had the manual.
More engine sounds please, i wanna hear how this one sounds
What a car. That colour is stunning too
Lovely review, thank you very much indeed
It's so good to see Tom so smitten by a car - it's absolutely infectious. Thanks for taking me on that journey, Tom. As for the car, I love everything about it but just couldn't do it. I've done my Alfa-time with an older Giulietta. It nearly bankrupt me with the repair costs. All would be forgiven when I was snicking through the gears on the old Pacific Highway north of Sydney on a sunny Sunday morning though... God, it made me smile like a loon.
Alfa's are reliable cars mate and they are the best performing too...don't be discouraged because of your Giulietta, I had one too, a QV and boy what an amazing machine it was...sold it because I had to make some other changes in my life back in 2019 but if I had the choice would have kept it to this day...my son even begged me to keep it for him when he turned 21 [which is in 2 week's time if the Lord spares us]. These Giuilia's have won numerous awards since its release in 2015, and also won reliability tests 2 years in a row on WhatCar? annual surveys beating the Germans and some oriental brands...that's no coincidence my friend...my next car is going to be the Veloce in white.
;)
I know the pain, I had a 100th anny GT up until recently. It had the running costs of a small country. 82000k and had TWO cam belt changes. One clutch and two sets of rotors. One service cost me over 6 grand
@@bobpants1469 always very disheartening reading posts like these my friend and I only imagine your experience not to mention the emotional toll...what I have learnt [together with quite a few other folk] is to have these machines looked after by specialists who love what they do and keep them away from the dealers who [in many instances] have caused more harm than good....here in my country we have quite a number of Alfa specialists with fantastic reputations and these are the people who strengthen this amazing machine's reputation because they KNOW what they are doing but more importantly, they LOVE their work and have a PASSION for the brand and its heritage.
One such guy saved a few people who owned Guilietta's by the way, thousands of dollars and unnecessary heartache and stress by solving small little niggles that could have brought bigger headaches going forward...
So my stance has become, leave these vehicles with specialists and [if possible] avoid the dealer service centers, you'll save yourself a lot of trouble.
Please don't lose heart buddy...
;)
@@edwardabrahams2353 great points you raise.
I bought my Giulia Quadrifoglio new and kept it for three years (it ran like a Swiss watch, never had an issue). That said, after I picked it up from the dealer I never took it back to an Alfa dealer (always had it serviced by an Alfa specialist). The dealer network is the one thing that lets Alfa down in my opinion (certainly here in the UK).
Mine is spec'd out the exact same! I absolutely love this car. Great video
Very happy I ordered my Giulia Veloce in Vesuvio gray with red interior direct from the factory. The car calls attention to itself because of its fine curves/lines - people get out of their cars to comment on my wheels. Loving my ride...
Can we get a Giulia review without half of the video being about Quadrifoglio? Most of us will never consider or be able to afford the QV and we just want to learn about the regular Giulia as much as possible. Each review i've watched is the same, driving the Veloce or the base model and just keep talking about 2.9 v6.. etc.
Besides that, your review is great and pure quality.
There is a tonne of commentary in here specifically about the Veloce, but it’s important to keep in mind that the Quadrifoglio is such a benchmark sports sedan, not to mention the apex of the Giulia lineup… that journos draw comparisons is not surprising
I have a red 2018 Super and will get a new one when the times right...Love it!
Have just buy this car. My dream car….such a good review…tells exactly how this beauty is
The colour in a QF. Gorgeous.
Great review
Nice looking car, and those tan leather seats are simply gorgeous, driven a few Alfas and it's not hard to fall in love with them, but the head always says buy German. I own Italian tractors and machinery and they are brilliant but when things go wrong, it can be an utter nightmare and seriously consider burning them. As always Tom great review.
Have the same exact car (yellow brake calipers though) here in the states. Great driver.
Masterpiece
Tis a thing of beauty. Those Italians certainly know how to pull me in. I bought my wife a Moto Guzzi motorbike years ago. Two engine rebuilds, new speedo, a gearbox rebuild all in the 2 year warranty period. Lovely thing though. Now I have an Italian dishwasher - broken after two days working. Waiting for parts. I do like that Romeo though and I'm sure it performs perfectly - today that is :) So refreshing to see a great car that isn't a bloated SUV!
An Alfa always trumps a BMW, even if it's worse... true petrol heads have owned an Alfa at least once. Coming from an EV owner.
Italian are you ?
@@hoey3510 lol naw he's an EV owner so I think he was just trolling about Alfa being better lol
I've owned a 147, a 156, a 330Ci, an M3, X5 4.4 and 3.0d. Now a Model S and an SRT8. So who's trolling wno? I only owned the BMW'S because I was a mid 20s dickhead IT sales rep.
I own a red one. I just saw a green one like this one and it was beautiful!! I never considered the green one but in person it is amazing.
good review, put Alfa back in the horizon
"This is a car that deserves consideration" - yup, I've considered long and hard, and this is going to be my - and possibly your - last petrol car. Viva Alfa.
This is an awesome car to look at but more so to drive. Brilliant fun. I can't tell you how many people want to tell me how much they love it. Strangers even!
Best car in the segment, beats the German brands hands down
Those damn Gremans.
I bought a used Giulia Veloce (Red) at 6300 km 2 months ago and agree all said in this review. It makes me happy when driving no matter fast or slow , on the highway or country. I like the interior more than the rivals because it is plain but has all i need. (I do not like the large, tablet-like screens fitted on the dash board). I like how the ZF transmission behave compared to many cars but have heard comments that BMW's is also very good, some say better Having a motor bike for daily use, I drive my car almost only w/ends so i can not comment for daily use. Have owned FIAT cars earlier w/out issues upto 180K kms, I do not expect reliability problems but here in Turkiye, Alfas are not famous for their reliabilities so we'll see that. Will share if any problem experienced. So far I am happy with my choice. Wish you all safe trips.
I love the Hunter Green and the beautiful interior
I have a '21 Stelvio Q4 Ti Sport. Gorgeous well-handling machine. More compliments than I could have imagined, people running to me to tell me so.
In the market for one of these right now and would murder for one with those colours good lord
I have a 2020 Giulia Ti and it remains a delight to drive every time. Zero problems. Fantastic handling. Seriously fun acceleration when you want it. Excellent gas mileage - 33 on highway in A mode. 30 overall. Looks great in black exterior and red interior too. Awesome value. Oh yes, appreciate my heated steering wheel in NE winters...
Definitely as James May says everyone should own an Alfa
He's a rich guy though, we middle class guy can't follow such nonsense. You've got to love what you buy at such prices.
Great!!!
HI Tom and crew. You guys do the best reviews!
I drive outside metro regularly - you have mentioned the lack of a spare tyre in this review but I note that you guys often do not mention anything about them. Please don't omit to tell us if it's a kit, space saver or full tyre on all reviews - its important to anyone driving outside the cities.
Thanks
If 007 were Italian.. giulia veloce would have been the car of choice!
Interiors look more authentic and sublime than its german rivals.
Amazing to hear honest words from an automotive journalist. This car is a true gem and it's OK to have opinions on the EV push even if it goes through. Even after they ban ICE - which may not happen - it's still OK to have an opinion about EVs and ICEs.
