Somebody backed their car into the front of my mom’s 2021 Chevy Blazer. The headlight assembly was $2,300 on the collision bill. I think it’s the nature of these fancy LED headlights.
I've come to the conclusion that these internet reviewers do whatever they need to do to create clicks and comments, and that's create controversy. There's absolutely nothing wrong with modern Alfa Romeos, but a video espousing that truth wouldn't be interesting now would it?
It’ll be fine up until about 10 years/100,000 Miles. Anything after that, you’re gonna start lighting money on fire. These modern cars are more or less designed to break down after the warranty ends. It’s not like those classic analogue Mercedes from the 70’s/80’s (W123 300D for example) that were engineered to be infinitely repairable and infinitely serviceable. Plastic and computer chips won’t last in the long run. These modern Euro-Luxury cars (BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, A.L.F.A.-Romeo, Jaguar, etc) aren’t meant to be maintained long-term past 10 years or so. They’re meant to be leased up until that point, and then junked.
ignorant answer. my bmw has 170k miles. routine maintenance. best car Iv’e ever owned and a drivers car. my Honda civic and Toyota before that cost me the same to own but were just Hondas and Toyotas. Until you experience the thrill of driving a “real” car you should keep your comments in check. have a good day
So the car is perfectly fine!! What exactly is the "money pit" of this car. My Infiniti had to have the headlight assembly replaced as well. Is Infiniti a money pit? Expensive maintenance??? Try owing a Mercedes! (Oh I did!) You can say it's an "Italian" car all you want. As far as this video shows, it's exactly the same quality as everything else on the road. Can't wait for the Tonale!
Every time Scotty comes out against a particular model or make, I bump into someone who’s completely happy with said make/model…including my stelvio, which I love and the car is completely reliable
Literally every car other than mazda SUVs. He talks about beater pickup trucks like they're exotic money pits. Pretty sure Scotty's real name is secretly Yuki Mazda.
You need to do more research. The current Stellantis owned Alfa's are in the top 5 most reliable vehicles in America. There are some electronic goofs in the system, but that's what the warranty is for. The 4cyl is essentially the same as on the Jeep's, up to the cylinder head.
Love my Giulia! Over 76000 beautiful miles and I love driving it! Just drove it on a 418 mile road trip. 😳 I have only had to replace a sensor and a radiator. All warranty. Bought an extended warranty as well. Previously only owned Acura. This Alfa Romeo Q4 Giulia is the best car I have ever owned. Nothing drives like one! Get my oil changes every 5k miles!
Bought a new Alfa 147 2.0 T spark Lusso in 2002 it was serviced every year and maintained, parts were comparable with other brands and it gave us trouble free motoring for 16 yrs. Averaging 10,000mls a year.
I have a 147 1.9 JTD, it does 20k km at year I bought it with 200k km and now it has 250Km it works really nice, the only issues I had, was a faulty crank sensor and a map sensor that fails randomly, but the car never let me stranded and it takes the abuse I put on it(I rev it to redlight always on highways). Ofcorse I live in europe and actually its avery cheap car to buy and junk yard parts are cheap so its worth it
@@xtadeus4777 if you don't drive it like a lunatic 24/7 and do very regular oil changes (that means more often than what it says in the manual) it should be fine, scotty has history bias
Own a 2018 Giulia Veloce. It’s done 56k miles and no big issues apart routine servicing. Lovely to drive. Main thing is to change the engine oil regular as the fiat multi air system doesn’t like old oil! Ferrari developed the handling. The steering is lightening fast like the 458 italia I drove. One know quirk on the car is the battery terminals. Keep them clean/maintained and greased and the intelligent battery system will do its job. I found electrical issues on the car were all caused by the intelligent battery system (IBS) not charging the car so I always had the smart charger on it. Now just charge it a couple of times a month.
He doesn’t know what he’s talking about and his delivery is awful. Unwatchable. I’ve had a 2017 Giulia as a daily driver with hardly any problems. I will get a newer one too. Way better than our previous boring Audi A4.
I totally agree BUT a friend had me watch his Spider Veloce for several months while he was in Europe. What a beauty that car was and a dream to drive.
Hey everyone this is my car by the way! I had a lot of fun with Scotty and believe me this car is absolutely amazing if you consider yourself a car guy and don't want to spent your life savings on a car!!
@@FriedGreenCarrots You can do whatever you want with your money as I have done but Scotty did not do my oil change by the way, that was other fluids for the car. The oil change all in by my own private mechanic is done for $130.
@@alfa_romeo55yush82bruh. This guy commented almost a year after the dude said 45k miles, he wanted an update since he first posted the comment. Chill lmao
I had an Alfa Romeo 145 long time ago. The only biodegradable car I ever had. It was falling appart weeks after weeks and replacing any parts was costing a huge amount... and I'm in Europe!
@@bghoody5665 I swear my 145 was not even really old (8 years old I think), religiously maintained and parts were literally decomposing one after the other. At the end, I had to replace a steering triangle (first and last time I ever had such an issue since I own cars) and the engineering was so bad that in order to fix this, they had to remove the engine from the car to access it... Don't ask me why! The costs were higher than the value of the car so I got rid of it. I was still a student then and I made the mistake to buy a brand new Peugeot 206 and I got rid of it after 2 years. Too many problems with the electronics. Since then I only drive German cars and never had any problems, even with my current BMW X2.
How’s it been? do you still like it? I’ve been driving a Stelvio for a few weeks and I’ve absolutely loved it!! Really would think I’d love to have a quadrafolio
@@onefastboi14 Great machines. I'm not an SUV type guy, but when I get in my wife's Stelvio, it doesn't feel or perform like an SUV. It feels like an Alfa Romeo in all the best ways. No problems with either the Giulia or the Stelvio nearing 50K miles on both. I love the Quadrifoglio vicariously, but for me I need a four-season daily driver. And that drive can include snow, torrential rains, etc.. I need aggressive all-season tires and AWD more than ultimate speed. I could afford a QV, but the Q4 is the better choice for me.
The only problem I had was on one of my Stelvios with the battery (wife has company vehicle and left her Stelvio gathering dust for a month) they replaced it cause of the warranty but nobody wanted to come to tow us, hundreds calls to the dealership, so I learned from that and on my new Stelvio I am doing a lot of Do it Yourself and I replaced the standard battery with one more powerful and it has been a dream ever since.
@@adriano8809 The OEM battery had issues that Alfa Romeo should have been better about admitting, for sure. Neither of our cars have the OEM batteries now and no problems since. Perhaps it's because we live in the country now, but I would say that the paint has been more durable than any of our former, mostly European, cars. Anyway, if anything catastrophic happened to my Giulia, I'd get another one without even shopping the others. I think my wife would do the same.
@@subaruamazonvery very amazing handling - that’s what I noticed about mine. Feels very light on its feet and just glides through anything. Goes exactly where you point it. Hard to explain but it feels very refined

Thanks for saving me a ton of money scotty. I bought myself a Toyota matrix and its only needed the normal stuff and has NEVER left me stranded. Have a great day good sir.
I come from a family that only bought Japanese cars growing up (87’ Celica, 92’ Integra, 97’ Outback, 02’ CR-V, 05’ Tacoma, 08’ Odyssey, 12’ Impreza) and grew bored of them. I bought an 04’ BMW at age 17 for my first car and it turned out to be the money pit of all money pits but I LOVED that car. Just before my high school graduation it was totaled in a flash flood. As a graduation gift my parents knew I loved German cars and bought me a brand new 2015 VW Golf that I kept through college and beyond, which ended up with 130k miles on it. I loved that car and it was more reliable than even their Hondas, Subarus, and Toyotas but it couldn’t deliver the performance of the BMW I had and I outgrew it after 8 years. Once I was steady in my own career, I bought a 2019 Giulia CPO with 25K miles two years back. It’s not only exceeds the performance of the BMW I missed, but it’s been bulletproof despite me driving it 20k+ per year a lot of the time in heavy LA traffic. I find the dealership to be a rip off, and independent mechanics are few & far between that will work on it, but at the same time a Dodge dealer carries a lot of the same parts and charges 1/2 the labor rates. If you love cars and can do basic maintenance yourself an Alfa might be the car for you. Parts are cheaper than even VW’s, and they’re pretty well laid out.
Man i just bought an Alfa Romeo SUV 'Stelvio' and man..... IT'S SO FREAKING AWESOME! I don't plan to keep it forever anyways, just enjoy it a few years. We only live once. yes. alfasud is a very nice car, and beautiful to drive but unfortunately, because of alfasud, alfa romeo ended up having this stupid bad reliability reputation.
i have a 2017 QV 2.9 V6 with over 45K on the clock - no issues whatsoever and best car i've ever driven! not sure what Scotty is on about with those engines being bad....would like to know if he's worked on any...i doubt it.
How many miles now ? Scotty makes me afraid now when he speaks about the V6 like this... I am in the process for the new 2024 QV V6... and want to keep it long time...
@@xtadeus4777you should get it, I’m currently looking for one also maybe 2018-2021 models. You should get it. Ive done research, some issues are radiator leaks, fuel pump issue, battery needs to be replaced if you get bunch of check engine codes, which usually fixes many things if not all. Watch auto fanatic he has many QV and he loves it. Just get 2020+
I have a 2020 Stelvio Ti Sport, 70,000 miles, not a single issue whatsoever! I mantain it as anyone should. New tires, rear brakes, oil changes, etc. same thing you would do with any other car. I don’t know why the hate. And they drive like nothing else out there (except maybe Porsche). Beautiful, agile, nimble. I’m buying another one next year.
I own a 2020 Stelvio and a 2017 Giulia Q. I’ve owned them both from new with ZERO problems!! My Stelvio has over 80k trouble free miles on it and has taken me from coast to coast. I usually agree with this guy but in this case he’s ABSOLUTELY WRONG! If you’re going to take the time to post a review at least be fair and honest. Review the vehicle NOT THE COMPANY’S PAST!!
Same I have a 1.6 88kw one. It puls good over 4k rpm. And it has a good feel and sound. Although if you drive it like a grandma not over 3k rpm to save fuel its going to smoke when its cold. I was wondering why mine was smoking. But as soon I drove it spiritually and really abused it it didn't smoke at all. Seems like the exhaust can't get hot enough. And its screaming for me to floor it 😂. Although It broke already once because of a bad bolt on one the timing belt, and my mechanic had to replace every valve and completely redone the head and all. Now it runs great. Im safe for another who knows how many km since everything one the engine is replaced.
I owned an ALFA 145 for 14 years, did 160,000 miles in it changed the oil every 6k, serviced as per the schedule in that time it only let me down twice. Alfas are as reliable as any car if you look after them.
The best luxury car from Fiat to get is the V6 diesel Maserati Quatroporte. It's their most reliable car and has good performance while still being economical
Best car I have ever owned! Steering is so perfect I would accept if something breaks. This car drives so fine you wil forget a lot of trouble. For now only regular maintenance so over one year I can even live with a blown engine so cheap it runs.😂
I leased a 2018 Stelvio for 3 years and the only issue I had was a dead battery. Then I bought a used 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia had it for another 2 years with 0 issues, I drove those cars from Indiana to New York, Chicago, to Miami twice, to Philadelphia. I put 55k on the Stelvio and 40k on the Giulia, no issues other than a few dealership recalls.
I am a semi truck driver in the EU. On my way back home to Bosnia I do this every two to three months, my company owner drove me home in an Alfa Romeo Stelvio diesel engine. When buying trucks, he got that car as a gift. Every week he travels an incredible 3000 km between Italy and Bosnia. When he was driving me home three days ago, the on-board computer reached an average speed of 150 km/h. Every sports professional driver from Europe knows that it is on the border of insanity or something similar to driving on race tracks. That night, in the sharpest curves of the highways, I constantly looked at the speedometer at 220 km/h. He did not mention that he had any problems with that car. Now he plans to buy a 600hp Maserati.
Two years on and I love my Stelvio Veloce. Has not been a single problem. Previously had a Giulietta for ten years and it never caused a problem, which is why I stayed with Alfa. This guy is just a mouth.
Ah, Scotty is the best, but whenever he's not reviewing someone's car an extended warranty isn't worth the paper it is written on. When he's got someone's car in front of him and they have an extended warranty, suddenly, they are smart.
My 2021 Stelvio has 35k miles and has had absolutely zero issues. Any Alfa review on UA-cam, including this one, is flooded with owners defending the brand. Maintenance is expensive, but no different than Audi, Merc, BMW…
@@libertyordeath555 oh I watch the gas gauge go down on my 97 f150 with a bad egr valve, think I’m at around 10 miles a gallon on it roughly if I’m lucky lol
modern alfa's actually do last quite a while. my 159 is at 250.000 km's and still going strong, i saw a Guilia qv with the 2.9 v6 that did a little over 200k miles too! like any car you have to maintain them of course, but with italian cars you just have to maintain them a little better. I do find it odd that parts are expensive over there. i can get the same headlights used for a little under 200 euros here. And all the fluids being that much is just a little over the top. everything i need for my 159 service costs me just about 200 euros, including all the filters, oil, etc.
250k kilometers isn't impressing anyone. That's only around 155k miles. Every modern car can last at least 200k miles now without any major issues. Japanese cars commonly make it to at least 300k-350k miles with just standard maintenance.
@@anomaly864 i really wonder why a lot of cars are considered unreliable if "every modern car can last at least 200k"? then there simply would not be an unreliable car on the market at all...
I think the standard for car reliability needs to be more than just 100K/150K miles. My 1983 Mercedes 300D Turbo (W123) has almost half a million miles on the original powertrain. And a good number of those miles were run on refined waste vegetable oil. Generally speaking, long term car reliability is going down as time goes on. Don’t get me wrong, Toyota and Honda are still definitely the best in that regard, but you open the hood on a new 2023 Civic, you’re gonna see a plastic intake, plastic valve cover, timing belt with plastic valve train components, dozens upon dozens of computer chips. These things just aren’t gonna last in the long term like the older versions from the 80’s/90’s/00’s did/do.
I bought a 05 v6 156 early 2017 and theres been zero problems. Mind you if I don't replace the cam belt soon theres going to be a big problem! Thats the main expensive thing to service. It'll be getting done soon.
My worst car was Mercedes C230; never ending repairs and it was new. I drive a Honda now and have for years an never had one problem. My mechanic advised me to do this and he said he will never see me again. He was correct!
I disagree with Scotty I think compared to it's direct rivals BMW, Porsche etc... it's cheaper on servicing and parts, less complicated, and has fewer gizmos to go wrong. Italian engines are always outstanding at a higher level than the opposition!
What an ignorant review @Scotty Kilmer, #1, you used the wrong tool to diagnose and try to reset codes and oil engine counter, #2 the lights in the Stelvio don't turn from left to right (only leveling), they don't follow the road, #3 V6 engines don't fall apart, where is your source for that? Statistics? #4, the issue with the trunk is the soft close mechanism....obviously, they bought a Stelvio with a lot of issues already. I drive my V6 15k miles a year, daily driver...it has NEVER left me stranded, engine has had no issues and it ISN'T falling apart. It is as, if not more, reliable than the German bunch. Your review is clearly based on the vehicle you have in front of you and assume they are all like that, you owe it to your subscribers to do more research before generalizing and saying good and BAD things about a brand...my 2 cents.
It's always amazed me how different people can perceive vehicles totally different and have complete opposite experiences on the same model. Scotty has put down many vehicles in his rants but then he finally gets one in person he always manages to say positive things about them. I brought him my Fusion hybrid not that long ago and was expecting the worst when the video came out. Surprisingly he had mostly positive things to say...mainly of the Toyota hybrid system that Ford put on it lol.
@@adlcuevas5689 I agree on your first point on generalizations. Not sure about influencer, though. I don't think he sees himself that way. It's probably he's at the point of his "career" where he doesn't give a sh*t anymore. He gives his opinion and doesn't care who agrees, disagrees, or what anyone thinks for that matter. He's made millions of dollars between his old car show in Houston and UA-cam. He has nothing to lose, really.
I worked at a guys house who had a beautiful Maserati coupe in his garage. Only a few years old v12 engine absolutely gorgeous car. He said it runs but doesn’t drive. I asked what do you mean? He said transmission was bad and no could get one and no one wanted to replace it if he could. He said if could get transmission replaced I could have it.
This video is garbage. My Alfa Romeo has been just fine. I do the maintenance as required when they say it’s required. Outside of a thermostat going out, it’s been perfectly fine. No better or worse than anything else on the road.
When my bill was 1600€ on my 12 year old BMW for the headlight replacement, I had enough and bought Dacia. It still has LED headlight though, but I hope it'll still be cheaper to replace and will be ok on the rest of the maintenance bills.
As a Giulia owner and 25k miles I will say. I totally in love forever in this car . Driving pleasure is out of this world, yes it is fast also, yes it is very safe driving also, yes it has a lot of nice ergonomic things inside. What I don’t like is cooling system, not bad as bmw but not as good as on audi . I don’t like HK sound system also . Rear view camera also not great but when u drive u just don’t care about camera or HK
I own a Giulia and can confirm it’s gonna be a costly car to own. I bought mine used and it’s been in the shop for a while due to a leak from the expansion plugs. However I love it
I own a 2021 Stelvio Ti Sport AWD and have driven it 40k miles so far with zero problems. I do the maintenance myself. They are NOT any more complicated or expensive to work on than a new Toyota and much more enjoyable to drive. ✌️
Hi @scotty do you still work on cars in New Jersey? I have this 2018 alfa romeo stelvio 2.0 with 32 secondary code that my mechanic's can't figure out. I can drop off the car to you
On this car you need to change a oring seals behind the oil case that was the factory recol. Over all it is a great car, yes and Expensive to maintain.
Seeking opinions: I'm a lady who loves autos with outstanding handling and a beautiful, quality interior. But I'm nervous to buy if most shops can't work on this car like this guy is saying (I don't live near an Alfa Romeo dealership). I want to be around ~25K out the door with a warranty. I've found used Stelvios in that range (2017-2019, ~70K miles), but I'm concerned about reliability. Wondering if I should put more $$$ down and get into the 2020-2022, ~35K miles range. Would love a variety of opinions!
Just came back from Italy. You have to look hard to find those “stupid “ automatic transmissions. Everyone can shift by hand using their brains when they drive!

One of the worst 90s Mitsubishi 4 sp automatic fail at 150k miles. CRV go over 180k miles no problem.

I've found used Stelvios in that range (2017-2019, ~70K miles), but I'm concerned about reliability. Wondering if I should put more $$$ down and get into the 2020-2022, ~35K miles range. Would love a variety of opinions!
Have you done a video on that slingshot yet or should I expect it soon?
I thought it was gonna be a Range Rover 😂
Or a Mini Cooper. Brits ....
Hall of fame junker right there.
Just came back from Italy. You have to look hard to find those “stupid “ automatic transmissions. Everyone can shift by hand using their brains when they drive!
Scotty better be taking the Ghost of Kyivs advice and thinking Ferrari when he’s driving that slingshot.
