Fairly informative, as a recovery truck operator myself, I have rarely encountered a tow/recovery where I did not freewheel out to hook onto a vehicle, I find that so much faster then waiting for the winch to back the cable out. And I would never use hand-built skates or ramps, too much to go wrong if they are not constructed properly. I would rather invest in items made for that use, much cheaper then doing major bodywork to a low-profile car. Other than that, I agree that most of that equipment should be standard on any roll-back

Wondering why specifically you say that about T hooks? What kind of problems have you had? As long as you’re pulling in the right direction with the hole the T locks in and can’t pop out. Been using them for 20 years without a problem and I’ve always considered them more secure than a mini J which COULD easily pop out if the winch line jumps or the angle is bad. I encourage the people I train to use them over a mini J whenever possible. Honestly curious what kind of problems you’ve had and why you say that. If you’ve had guys lose cars using them it sure seems like they were just used incorrectly, either by not pulling in line with the tow hole or by using them in a hole not meant for T hooks. As with anything it has to be used correctly to work. Cheers from Massachusetts. Stay safe out there.

If theT-hooks are that dangerous just take out you're angle grinder with a cuttingblade or a reciprocating saw and cut them off the strap. I've been tought to use only the equipment that works, and if a company doesn't want their employees to use specific tools they should make sure that stuff ain't on the truck

*So "T Hooks" are used to transports vehicles thousands & thousands of miles, but there to unsafe to tow a vehicle just a couple of miles???*. "T hooks" work perfectly to secure & transport vehicles from China to the US, on cargo ships going across the turbulent oceans with 10', 20', 30 foot sea's or more, why are they not safe or secure enough to tow a vehicle on the paved roadway??? This is provided your using them properly, they are used again to transport vehicles hundreds, if not a thousand miles on car carriers when transporting them from the port to the dealership.
So why are they unsafe & dangerous to use???

except for a couple of things
gas can and air tank on the bulkhead will get you DOT tickets in new york
also ...dont agree about the storing of the bridal when not in use.if your going to use the winch...the bed will be down to recieve the car or truck being towed.

Balljoint skate probably is the best tool on my truck. Guys I work with just drag them on and smash the bumper off the deck cause they don't care. You can use the skate on trailers missing wheels. Never needed the rollover stick yet in 10 years

Back in the 1980s all we had was a 880 split boom on a pug nose Ford. We had a car sling and a tractor sling. Big "J" hooks on chains and back then we only had "T" hooks on our truck for GM cars. We used the to tie a vehicle on the dollies and towed with a sling. I never was lucky enough to even use a wheel lift wrecker and never saw a roll back until I had my own business.................or in this town doing anything other than insurance totals going to rebuilders. To tell the truth.............I miss driving that old wrecker. Had the brakes to fail one day while UI was being led to a burned car by Alabama State Trooper. He was about half mile ahead of me and stopped just over a hill on a country road. I topped the hill and he was tghere...........in the road.................stopped. I had air horns so I laid down on them. He almost ran over the burned car getting out of the road. Needless to say he wasn't impressed as I went by and rolled to a stop after shutting the engine down. I got out with a can of fluid in my hand smiling and told him I forgot to fill it before I left the shop. He was even less impressed and made me show him the thing would stop with the brakes before I could even hook up. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the things we did to make a dollar.

I can just imagine how mad the my state trooper would be after I stood and winched off cable instead of pulling it off with the winch released. This man must not do accident recoveries one after another as we do. He filled his tool boxes with blocks and straps and now has no room for what's required on accident scenes.

What exactly you do with those two small homemade chains and what is benefits to use them ??
All I have in my flatbed is 3 snachblocks , one is to keep an angle , and other two to double my cable if I needed !!!
And another question is about Thook ??
Me personally, I dont like it , some time it's getting stuck , and for that reason I like to use little Jhook ..But its dose not make them dangerous .... Can you please explain your point !!??

Wayne Smith I hope its more accurate than this video. Your opinion on freewheeling is very wrong. Freehweeling has 3 reasons. Speed in obviously getting your winch line out. It prevents wear and tear on the winch and also prevents wear on the pump and lines. And sister chain lol what in the serious fuck. Taking up space in your tool crib. And your made up chain if ever used and it broke. Guess what smart man. You are liable for what occurs after it breaks.

    • @juliogonzo2718
      @juliogonzo2718 4 роки тому

@@bonnivilleblackcherry9745 sister chain is very useful doing rollovers. When you have a chain lengthwise across the overturned vehicle, if you just hook your winch to it, the hook will slide on the chain and you will just spin the car. The sister chain will keep the winch cable hook in the position you need it. I learned that the hard way early on looking like a dumbass spinning a car back and forth with popo watching.

This dude looks like hes towed just enough vehicles to know what to call all his equipment...and probably only towed in "ideal situations". Gonna go ahead and stop watching now. Trying to find some training videos for some guys at work to watch, but this definitely isnt it lol.

Todd Wilfong this dude has forgotten more than you'll ever know. And has grown a his company from a few trucks to over 30. And built a facility that's amazing for towing. Still growing. This video is for people completely new to the industry so some things we that can be a problem for new guy we just recommend not doing to prevent damages. We can all be the one Jay hook on the back bad ass. Like you
