Just started doing tows and today my first car was awd trackhawk with no keys and locked door. Thanks to your video I was able to get the job done. Love your videos.
Started with this tow company, and I have no experience. They won't let me train with plastic skates. They said only wood 4×4 pieces. I'm having a hard time with 4 wheel drive cars or rear wheel. I hope I get the hang of it. They really monitoring my progress. I'm afraid if I don't get the hang of it soon. They might let me go. It's not easy being a tow operator it has it's challenges. Respect to all the professional operators out there, I respect your service and work. God bless👍🇺🇸
@@Sandiego1976md sorry it's been awhile since I've checked my messages I hate to say this but that company you're working for has a bunch of problems the only thing wood is good for is for building ramps to get low setting cars onto the truck
You just said, “If the customer is not around, forget the skates and just hook up the chains and drag it on the truck”. I guess that means if the customer isn’t around you don’t give a damn about their vehicle, right?
"Doesn't hurt the car." Really? You should see the repair bills we send out to tow companies' insurance companies. This is a terrible example of what should be done and how professionals work.
Man, I’ve been waiting on this! I was new on the job a few months ago and no ones had the time to show me this. Had to even be called back from a couple jobs because I wasn’t sure how to unload at the time. Finally got someone to say to me “Fuck it, just shake it off like you would any other RWD or FWD car!” well lo and behold, worked like a charm. But I’ve still been working them this way without ever seeing a real professional do it themselves. Thanks Donald. I appreciate your work.
Once the car is on the bed, I found it a lot easier to just hook up the snatch box to the end of the bed, put the cable out through the pulley looping it back up to the front of the car (at the furthest secure attach points I can find) and then just using the winch to pull the car off the bed. You can pull the car off the bed with the winch just like you’re pulling in on…works the same only in reverse.
2:27 Or in most cases these days the customer is also filming you with their phone. Some just sneak it better than others. I got customers always looking for a claim to get the scratches fixed that their daughter did just a week prior, except the driver (not paying attention) will fall victim so always treat each car with care and in your mind that the customer can always be up to something too
My friend I appreciate you watching my videos good luck to you on your new job just do me a favor be safe take your time and keep your head on a swivel
I don’t know about towing I am just starting,so why 4 wheel drive cars are not allowed to put them on neutral???the rear drive cars also need to tow them with skates like the 4wheel drive too???
I just started and ordered some skates......for some reason the company that hired me does not use them. Do skates work on dirt or grass? Another question is can you use skates on tires that will not turn straight in order to make the car slide straight with the direction of the winch? Thnks Donald.
To be honest i won’t even use them skates at all unless the car is on a paver driveway or something similar but I forgot this is AAA other than that good video for beginners be safe out there
Hello Mr.Donald! I'm thinking to buy me a rollback tow truck. I'm very interested in this kind of work. But I don't know what brand of truck to buy and I don't know what kind of engine will be good. I hope you can help me. Thanks!
Unfortunately most tow companies will do exactly that. Hook it up and drag it on the truck and tear shit up and then not take responsibility for the damage they caused.
Well in the beginning at 2:26 he said “well if the customer is not there just hook up the chains and drag it on the car” so that tells me he has the same mindset as most tow truck drivers. They don’t care about your car, and they don’t care about a good reputation for the company. They know that if something happens to the car, the customer is going to call the tow company and then do complaints and bad reviews and suggesting other people not to use them and all caused by someone like him that would just drag it up if the customer isn’t looking. He doesn’t care about if you have to put $1,000-$2,000 for a new transmission, he’d rather not spend 2 mins more to do it the right way. Actually he can go it the right way in even less time, why doesn’t he carry a kit to open cars and put it in neutral that way it’s not being dragged, you don’t need keys to put a car in neutral. This is AAA for ya! Unbelievable!
One thing is these drag style tow truckers act like they don’t damage peoples transmissions but there’s lots of evidence that proves otherwise. Also what are dolly’s even for then? And why toe differently if the customer is watching? Hummm.
My AWD wont start. A company with a flat bed showed up to try to jump it but won’t start. He said he can’t tow it without potential damage so they’re sending a different type of truck. I’m very confused now after watching this, and now I’m worried
Question, have you ever used these skates on a bridge that has the “grooves” that allow for vehicle traction? Wouldn’t the skates need a flatter surface in order to slide more easily. Would think the skates will “dig in” and not slide easily at all. The tires would pull right off/over the skates. Your thoughts on possible damage to a vehicle in this scenario?

My daughter-in-law's 2020 all wheel drive vehicle was just reprocessed in the middle of the night. The driver dragged it across asphalt and up onto his flatbed. I'm assuming he had to drag it off because he didn't have the keys. Later that day she picked it up at their storage area. Soon after leaving she noticed it making loud noises. She immediately had her car towed to the dealership. They had to fix and repair the clutch. She lost 5 days pay. Driver is negligent. Im surprised the front tires didn't slide back up the bed when you pushed the bed back. I would think the rear wouldn't push back on pavement, but front would roll back up being on a WD40 sprayed bed
First hand experience, half the time they do. He had a perfect set up. Sometimes they come right off, sometimes it takes a minute. Wish he had a hitch on an non level surface!
