Worst wreck I've seen so far

  • Worst wreck I've seen so far! In my job, I come across a TON of wrecks. Unfortunately, some of them are fatal. Some of them are incredibly bad yet by some miracle the drivers were unharmed. This is one of those cases. Upon first sight, I was positive that the driver of both the tractor and tow truck were deceased. Looking inside of the cabs, it didn't seem possible to walk out of that. I did find it odd it wasn't reported to us that it was a fatal, as that is a whole process and coroner has to be involved before we do.
Luckily, to my surprise, I found out both drivers were alive. And not just alive, but alive and no serious harm. The tow truck driver was walking around the scene and got picked up by his company. The driver of the tractor I was told was also fine, but then later found out she had injuries to her lower half from the accident. Horrible situation and I wish her a speedy recovery.
I won't get into speculation on who's at fault or how it happened, and I also took a ton of time to blur out logos and addresses. Please don't mention the companies involved if you know of them. To start the job, despite looking insane, I started simple. The main thing was a chassis stuck between the semi and the tow truck. So naturally my goal was to remove the chassis from the equation so the tractor and tow truck could be towed separately.
I was only called for the tractor and chassis; CHP called Sanders towing for the car and tow truck. Rigging was on point, and once the chassis was removed, all other pieces fell into place perfectly and we cleared the scene quickly.
In terms of wrecks, is this the worst one you've seen on my channel? I believe so, if not the worst at least top 3! And if you REALLY want to support your favorite tow channel, become a member here: / @pepestowingservice

Thank you! And right? I knew it wasn't a fatal because it didn't go to evidence and the coroner was not there but man, I would have bet all my money it was just by how the cab looked.

Josh I'm sure you know this, the
slider pins on that chassis if it's an air slider just spin onto the 30/30 brake can and are snugged with a jam nut. The outfit I run for has the Tri-axle version. Outside my Dump chassis. My favorite chassis.
Crazy that it sheered the 5th wheel off that Freightliner.
That chassis is only 30 ft long closed.
I got rear-ended in my truck back last fall I stopped for traffic 48mph to 0 in 4 sec. 2 sec. Later I got tagged to 2 mph. Every one was fine. No damage to my truck or chassis. The SUV was totalled.so I was shocked that 5thwheel Sheered off.

I hate that part of the 60. Especially bad right now with the 71 under major construction. The back-up is so bad and so many trucks stopped in the lane. Gotta pay attention to the traffic up ahead and not be too close. Especially when loaded. I realize it is easier said than done. Glad all the drivers are ok. A testment to how well modern trucks are made, and maybe a bit of divine intervention. The amount of force it takes to shear off the fifth wheel slider from the track is a lot. Sends chills down the ole spine. Good job, as always.

Ugh as a first responder going on 19 years inner city next to 2 major highways I’ve seen a lot of horrific stuff. I forget sometimes that you guys get the aftermath, but on our blue tarp calls (too many mangled bodies in the car so we put a blue tarp over it, y’all get it on the wrecker then we follow you to the police impound where we meet the coroner, funeral director, and we spend however long it takes matching parts to people and put the remains in double sealed body bags for forensic processing at the coroners office. After the parts are released to the funeral home then their loved ones can prepare for a funeral.
After the car is as empty as we can get it we have to decon with water, tons of bleach then cover the runoff into the ground. It’s awful. One of my worst was a drunk driver going the wrong way on the highway blacked out (he had his lights off) hit a mini van with a whole family plus mom who was 34 weeks pregnant passing through with their 5 kids on the way to FL to take their kids to Disney. That whole ordeal took 9 hours from on scene time to wrapping up at the impound lot. It’s heart crushing, makes you kind of hard, numb…and the driver died to so no answers or justice for the family.
Thank you for what you guys do helping us out. Sadly you are right in the middle of it. 😔
Prayers for all involved in this one. 💔

Honestly, 9 times out of 10 you want to plumb air as close to the compressor as possible. I genuinely fell in love with towing trucks with the older Cummins blocks, because Cummins used to put an R134 fitting (i.e. the same connector that's used on the air conditioning system) on the metal compressor output line. There's a neat little tool (which comes in a full set, I can toss you the link if you want... super useful, paid for itself multiple times within my first week of having it) which can utilize that fitting and a quick connect to get air into the system of the truck you're towing real friggen quick. Like, full air hookup in less than 5 minutes quick. Some trucks the play is to disconnect the compressor output line and hook an adapter directly to it, some trucks you have to go to the air dryer and force the system to pressurize in reverse, and some trucks I've had to pull drain valves off of tanks and run air directly into one of the tanks. Many many ways to get air into the system... the bigger challenge is certain types of drivelines that refuse to play ball when you go to pull them. To this day, I well and truly *hate* pressed-in drivelines

Good video! That flatbed tow driver was going pretty fast. That chassis was in an extended position and the locking pins were completely sheared off. Driver has long road to recovery head of here. 🙏🏽 but thank god no fatalities.

The force to rip that 5th wheel mount free shows that roll back must have been flying fast.

I love your videos. Much engineering goes into dealing with such a wide variety of wrecks.
Beautiful, expensive, well maintained equipment. You and your employees do a great job.
Now for the complaint, I am a 78 year old Vietnam Combat Veteran. I avoided body piercings by ducking at the correct time. I don't understand why people drill holes in their ears, noses and where ever else. Pull the rings out of your ears and restore them before you are old and your ear lobes are touching your shoulders. Thanks for your video work.

Nice video, like your attitude concerning victims whether being fatal or for privacy reasons.
