I heard Disney made this movie because they have this plan to take Disneyland off the electrical grid by hooking it up to a generator powered by P. L. Travers spinning in her grave.
Skippy the Magnificent lol. U won hands down 😂😂😂😂
Skippy the Magnificent thats savage..... harsh but savage.
Disney waited for the Author to perish so they make horrible sequels that that’s psycho!

Hahaha
I liked the movie but damn that's a sick burn.
The Nostalgia Critic wanted to come out and Doug kept it in..
I had a feeling Doug would have bad feelings towards this film based on the first few seconds and is a fan of the original.
Ive heard mix reviews. Seeing it tomorrow and listened to the soundtrack on youtube. The music isnt timeless but it sounds enjoyable and will probably make sense with the film. I'm excited but i've already decided not to compare the two too much.
Wow you were able to divine that he is going to dislike the film purely from his aggravated noises and punching the air? That's impressive.
I could tell based on the thumbnail. Also I hope he reviews Aquaman and Bumblebee.

Yeah, got nightmares from it! Make's the slaughter scenes from event horizon like comedic inserts! Aaargh!
A psycho picture.
Good for them, they made a movie that wasn't batshit. Disney may be greedy with reboots and unneeded sequels to stuff they made decades ago but half the people there know how to make a movie and read an audience so they can control the damage of the lazy productions

@@LucianoThePig No... You really haven't. This is an entirely different story. The structure and characters "rhyme" a lot with the original like Force Awakens to Star Wars and Blade Runner 2049 to Blade Runner. But the themes of the story is entirely different. I miss Angela Lansbury. Nobody will ever forget the impact she had on Broadway. Including her role as Mrs. Lovett in the original production of Sweeney Todd.

Angela Lansbury put me in tears, and I get that people love the original (obviously) but I disagree that this isn’t for adults, I think it makes adults who watched the film when they were kids remember the magic Mary Poppins stands for. We all talk about how classic the first one is but before they announced this film, I hadn’t heard people talk about it for a while!
That Disney Girl I was literally feeling babyish and giddy when I saw it.
I just saw it today and I honestly enjoyed it. There were parts I didn’t love (having a villain and the chase scene) but honestly I want to have this movie around to show to my kids someday because I felt like a total kid while watching it.

Am I the only one who actually liked this movie? It was pretty creative actually and it had amazing visuals, choreography, natural, non-auto tuned vocals, music, lighting, storytelling, animation, costumes, and much more! At least in my opinion. And yes, I’ve seen the original Mary Poppins and this one is still very amazing. I’d say this movie is my most favorite so far. While art is mostly subjective, just because it’s a sequel doesn’t mean it’s bad or immediately a soulless cash grab even though the majority of sequels/reboots/prequels etc. are nowadays. But hey, that’s just my two cents.
Everything was good , except the music , I get the story and the references and they are ok , But the music was incredibly bad , and Lin Manuel Miranda was so in the face always and there was no need at all
No, you're not the only one. I saw both.
@@edhatboy As a musician, I thought the music was very well done.
I thought that while unnecessary, it was a lovely complement to the first film.

Honestly I’m an adult and a pretty big fan of the original movie and the broadway show and I loved this movie. I mean it certainly isn’t better than the original, but it’s still GOOD. I feel like a lot of people haven’t seen the movie and they’re just basing their opinion of the movie off of this review, which I would absolutely not recommend. Doug’s allowed to have his own opinion, but that doesn’t mean his word his gospel. While the songs from Mary Poppins Returns definitely aren’t as phenomenal as the ones from the original movie, this film did manage to recapture the magic for me, I thought the story was fun and interesting, and I left the theater with a smile on my face. If you were even a little bit curious about this movie, I would recommend checking it out. Maybe you won’t like it, and that’s fine, but you don’t want to miss out on a movie you might genuinely enjoy because of a cynical review you found on UA-cam.
This movie was fun and that’s what matters about it!
I felt like a happy kid watching it, and when I left I saw kids jumping and singing the last song of the movie. It was fun and great for families. I don’t have to love all of it to think that.
Give the movie ten years and we'll see how memorable the songs really are
Preach. I agree with you completely. All you have to do is watch his Disneycember on it to understand how critical he would be on this one.
I have just watched the movie, and I was so excited about it that this has been the first time I have gone out by myself after a long recovery from a surgery. The first thing I decided to do after 3 months at the hospital and in bed was going to watch this movie by myself in the afternoon in an empty cinema. Unfortunately I had exactly the same impression of Doug. I am here because I was trying to understand if somebody else had felt so disappointed as I was and his is the first negative review I have found. But I agree with every word (apart maybe about the two grown up bank kids, whom I didn't find so good as characters). Happy that other people liked the movie, but no. It's not for me either.
I just watched this movie last week and I did not read/hear any reviews until now but I can honestly say my thoughts on it are pretty much exactly what Doug said. I've been trying to find someone who has seen it to express these exact points that Doug has covered, though it still didn't stop me from telling everyone I know my reaction because the original was a big part of my childhood so this sequel is very significant to me. So not everyone is just bashing for the sake of bashing. I can't comprehend anyone who just repeats others opinions without seeing something for themselves though I'm sure they're out there. But I'm also sure that people enjoyed this movie too. And that's fine. There a plenty of movies that the majority have disliked that I have loved. Everyone is different.

The surprise is it actually does... Doug really is just being a negative ass. If you like the original and go into this one wanting it to be good you will like it. If you want it to be bad then you can be like Doug and go in looking for it to be bad. You'll probably find reasons. This was rad.
Herman Falck How I loved the movie but I haven’t saw the original so, it’s personal opinion and you really shouldn’t bash anyone who views things differently, you can just express your own or downright ignore it, you’re judging someone who looks at these like a solid concrete wall, nothing’s gonna poke through it because it’s not in front of him
If the author of Mary Poppins hated the first movie, can you imagine how'd she feel if she ever saw the new one, specifically the chase scene? I doubt the orginal wouldn't be so bad after seeing that.
Depends on how close the second is to the book in contrast to the first one.
Well, that the Royal Doulton Bowl is a scary place was directly taken from the books, read them.
She did say she got over it years later even though she didn’t like the movie.
@@BJ64Th3M0v13f4n Then again though one of the Late P.L. Travers conditions for selling the rights to Cameron Macintosh to do the Stage Version was that nobody from the original production would be involved, especially not the Sherman Brothers and everyone working on it would be strictly English. Macintosh exploited loopholes to get elements from the Disney movie in there
It’s an animated chase scene, it has thematic relevance, it incorporates wonderfully in the movie and it’s fun. Why is this chase scene a bad thing?
I love the original, I grew up with it, Julie Andrews is the reason I went to a music conservatory to train in singing. AND YET, I loved this movie! It has obvious flaws, like the random relationship between Jake and Jane or how there weren't enough quiet moments, but the songs were so fun, the acting was spot on, and the film looks BEAUTIFUL. Heartwarming animation and gorgeous colors. It doesn't hold a candle to the original (pun intended) but I'd still call it a little light fantastic!
Actually it's Jack not Jake but agree with your opinion

The author put in her will she never wanted anymore Mary poppin movies. Really Think about that. IT WAS HER DYING WISH. That’s the only reason I need to not see it.
Wouldn't be surprised if the kids gave the ok, because kids to properties tend to not care as much when money is involved into a property, hence why we don't have as much family owned property anymore
Sarah Walter that fair and totally understandable
Let also add that it really unnecessary to make another one in the first place
I’m fairly certain that if the original writer were still alive to know that Disney made a sequel against her wishes, this would likely be how the awkward conversation would play out:
Writer: Did you do it?
Disney: Yes.
Writer: What did it cost?
Disney: Everything.
@AlwaysLookCool 729 that doesn't put her in the wrong. That means that the movie is not the story she wanted to be told. I have not read the book, but if she feels the movie doesn't represent the book properly, she has every reason to feel that way.
Travers was just a prude honestly. One of the big things that angered her was the use of animation, because she firmly believed animation to be overly childish and fantastical. Also when it came to a stage adaptation of her work, it wasn't that she was against it being made. She only insisted that Americans not be allowed to be involved. And she hated the choice for actress for Poppins herself because she was too pretty.
Travers was just petty truthfully. A real my way or the highway personality. Too unwillingly to let other ideas in, which is just terrible when it comes to making a movie as opposed to a book.

I saw Mary Poppins Returns. Never have I left the theater feeling so happy and giddy. Emily Blunt is just excellent as Mary Poppins. She gives a performance that Julie Andrews would be most pleased with and she deserves all the praise she gets for this film. Lin-Manuel Miranda is just a wonderful performer and is enjoyable to was as Dick Van Dyke was in the first movie. The music and songs are just as catchy as the first film and retains some of that Sherman Brothers flavor. Rob Marshall is one of the best directors of movie musicals since Vincente Minnelli. He was able to take the familiar world of the 1964 classic and add something new to keep it brand new while not just retreading the same steps as the first film. Yes there are visual and musical throwbacks to the first film, but doesn’t do it to the point where it just panders to audience. Is it as good as the first, no but it comes close.
I'm sorry, but the movie is a flat out "meh" from this long time fan.
Sorry to sound like this, but there are movies that do that to me. I've watched movies like Minions and Secret Life of Pets and those two were really emotionless films.
What this film lacks is what the new Star Wars films lack, a proper way to flesh out a new character/world.
This movie played it safe like Star Wars Episode 7, which people had all agreed felt a bit lacking in story and development but knew that there were more movies to come after. This movie is a sequel to a classic. And, it didn't even have to try hard to work off anything as there are a lot of books to use for adventures. What the first movie did was focus on showing us Marry Poppins, not as a developed character but as a lady who popped in to take care of two misunderstood kids. The other movie, for some reason, has to go through the motions to TELL US that the bank is bad and so on. Please understand, this movie is no where near as rewatchable as you think it is. This feels like the Hunchback of Notradame II that no one asked for, and was great for just one viewing.
Sean Pultz I completely agree
I agree with Sean too. Just saw it and loved every minute. What some of the critics don’t understand is this film is based on the other Mary Poppins books, they didn’t make the story up as this reviewer seems to think.
Jeff Eletto I’m guessing you didn’t read the books. PS just because it’s like a book doesn’t make it automatically good
@@djpopperz3558 Like the first movie, they took chapters and story arcs from the books to create the plot for the movie. In fact in the interviews, the actors and those involved in Mary Poppins Returns point that out and some even mention that there are eight books in total so we may see even more live adaption movies of Mary Poppins. However, they do take quite a number of creative liberties to the point that you could even say they practically make it up. At the top of my head these are comparisons that differ from the books, all books focus on the Banks children (the grown up siblings in Mary Poppins Returns), there are 5 Banks children in total, but only Jane and Michael appear in all books as their siblings are present and absence in some books. Mary Poppins doesn't have a street light friend, but a matchman/street artist/other occupation hustler, named Bert. The Banks do not go through financial troubles as their father, George Banks, has a successful career.
I thought they paid some nice homages to the original. Such as what they did with Jane. She was obviously inspired by her suffragette mother to be active in a social cause though I could have done without Michael turning into his father a little bit

To be fair to this movie, if you read the Mary Poppins books, the second book and all the other sequels are completely 'parallel' to the first book. I mean, chapter for chapter.
And part of the reason this movie feels so repeated is because it does take a lot of scenes from the books.
Thd books are very old, and most series books back then, and even now, follow the same formula as the first. Try to name a book series that does not do it.

@@finnhoffman Oh, I didn't realize your opinion was the only correct one, my bad! Doug must've not seen it either then. :)
@@SilviaVanThreepwood just my opinion, I didn't even imply it was the definitive one. People like you are always trying to find agendas and meanings, when none such sinister secrets exist. You know what you are? Just another toxic arsehole, who immediately hates something, simply because it isn't the original and think they know shit about making films. I mean if you really think this film was shit, then by all means, make a better version yourself. But why should I care what you think? Especially seeing as you're just going to spit venom at me once again and call me immature, which is probably something somebody like you would use. Oh and one other thing, I honestly don't care what you think; not because I'm a jerk or anything, but because you're yet another UA-cam commentor who is always negative about everything and thinks something sucks because it's not like your childhood fantasy. Furthermore I don't hate the original Mary Poppins, in fact I like them both and in some ways the *sequel* not *remake* expands greatly on the original film. For instance the costumes are practically as perfect as those used in the original, Mary Poppins character has been drastically altered from Julie Andrews version, yes; but this doesn't necessarily make it worse. Now I'm not suggesting that every sequel, prequel, midquel, remake or what have you is perfect, have no fear; but I'm simply stating the blatantly obvious fact that you can't something just because it's not like the original. I mean look at The Fly 1986, that film's a remake of the original and is millions of times better. While Mary Poppins Returns is no Fly it is nonetheless a truly uplifting experience; which perhaps even more than the original film reminds us of the positives in life. For although the world is no doubt a place of constant misery and suffering; in which being different is looked down upon, I truly believe the world can change. But it isn't the world that has to change, it's people. Mary Poppins Returns, much like it's prequel might not be everybody's cup of tea, but is nonetheless an incredibly uplifting experience. But in order to experience anything under a positive light, you must detach yourself from all manifestations of hatred and prejudice. Read into this how you like, but know that I do not write this out of hatred, but of the truth inside me. I wish you luck in your endeavour and hope you respond rationally to what I have just sent.

That's what I said then my friends told me "he shut the lamps off"
They simply don't know how to make a movie like "Mary Poppins" nowadays. They simply don't have the ability. Oh, they have access to all this technology and money and crap to make a movie, but the problem is, they don't have the writing talent to pull it off. There's always too much "Well the chart says", that gets involved and, "Kids like this!", "This is popular!", and we just don't have the right range of talent that could pull off a movie like that that have the combination of acting + singing talent both at the same time and the ones who do, few people would recognize and probably wouldn't be the "Big name" or "Big hot draw" that corporate would be willing to put on that movie poster to draw those people in. And then even writing a movie with dialog is hard because they have to sell the thing overseas. They prefer action over dialog because that translates better. So.. less dialog and.. chase scenes. Actions scenes.. and a villain! They need someone to root against.. etc.. the chart says! So it's near impossible to make a proper "Mary Poppins" that actually has the feel and "lightning in a bottle" magic that the original had. Hollywood is just incapable of making a movie like that today. They can't make movies with "heart". The people who could do that don't work in the industry any more and the system is designed by nature to destroy anything that is made with heart behind it.
Modern Mary Poppins... hm, that's a good question. I can't think of many recent films that are just whimsical and magical "just because"--probably the closest I've seen in recent years is Ponyo, and even that was trying to attach some world-ending plot to the whimsy.
@BlackburnBigdragon
This month, we've got Aquaman, Into the Spiderverse, and BumbleBee, which is getting praised for it's action *and* heart. But yeah, Hollywood is totally incapable of making a movie with heart, right?
As an overall concept, those sorts of movies are cranked out with regularity overseas or with smaller budgets here at home. Many of them are entirely animated, because the novelty of mixing animation and live action isn't worth the uneven result right now. When I was hearing about the clock scene, I thought a lot about Kiki's Delivery Service, which has a lot of heart, no "big bad," and is super sweet. Dialogue isn't required. Taking just a scene out of context, one of my favorites is Rey's introduction in Force Awakens. It's just music, just showing her and backgrounds and that's it. So people do understand the concept, but yes, big budget movies pushed as the "it" movie to watch tend to pander to the big chase, the big bad, the super huge visuals, etc.. There's a place in the world for all kinds of movies, and even for me to like a variety of them.
“We can remake it! We have the technology.”
Exactly, the original was mind blowing and respect-inspiring because they did things nobody thought possible back then and were just very difficult to do. Now, they just throw everything in the computer and everything you can ever imagine rolls out the other end... And yeah, it seems actual good writers are apparently hard to find nowadays.
If P.L. Travers disliked the first film so much, I can’t even begin to imagine what she’d think of this one...

Nope. Mostly just vignettes with single chapter adventures until some condition is met that means Mary must go in some magical way.
Well that's very helpful info to know. Thanks!
"Mary Poppins Comfort Food" Should be trademarked. QUICKLY.
In a (small) defense of how repetitive the stories in the sequel were, the original book trilogy also had many repeats. Each book had a fairy tale like story, each had a “enter a different world” story, each had a “quirky relative? of Mary Poppins who had a weird but humourous problem on a certain day of the week/year”, etc. P L Travers found a formula that worked in the first one, then copy/pasted it into each of the sequels. Personally, I enjoyed the books and the original film, and liked the fact that they adapted more of the stories in the sequel. Everything else about MP Returns wasn’t too good though.
So Disney thought the story of Mary Poppins needed a Mr. Potter from "It's a Wonderful Life"?

Bumblebee is a fantastic film and I really hope that it does well...my only concern for that film is that no one is going to see it because they've been bummed out on the last couple transformers movies, but believe me six times a charm in this is the film you've all been waiting for. Go see Bumblebee this weekend! You won't be disappointed!
I have definitely heard better things about Bumblebee, to the point I'm intrigued. I've already seen Aquaman and enjoyed it (though I can definitely see how many people will hate it). I've made a decision to hold off on Mary Poppins until I can watch it at home and skip around if necessary.
@@arisucheddar3097 I am going to see Aquaman in a couple days, it at least looks enjoyable.
Or aquaman
Bumblebee is failing and Aquaman is heading for the 1 billion landmark. I'm not mad but man, sometimes the world's weird.
. This movie should’ve been about a different family. Like the fact that she has to help the banks a second time means she failed the first time
Sarah Walter Actually no she does not help multiple families she only always helps the Banks family. The Mary Poppins books are always about the Banks family. Read the first two There was a book series called Miss Piggly Wiggly that helped multiple families with difficult and naughty children perhaps that is the series you are thinking of. She also falls under the magical nanny category.
Well it is a different family. It is Michael Banks kids.
@Laverne Blaszczyk because it probably would have been pandering
Sarah Walter if it was about another story it would be shite
Admittedly, I haven't seen Hamilton.....yet. So, my only knowledge of Lin Manuel Miranda is he worked on some of the songs in Moana and he plays Gizmoduck in the new DuckTales. Um, I like his performance of Gizmoduck.
Doug, NO BALLOON FOR YOU!
Now that’s a thumbnail that makes me want to watch a video.
The 2D animated sequence was my favorite part of this movie. I miss classic 2D animation from Disney
Sounds like a "requel" if you ask me. :-/
The bath scene is basically 'Bobbing Along' from Bedknobs & Broomsticks
ZeroStrykr so true!!!!
Well, that song, which is actually titled "Beautiful Briny Sea", was actually written for the original Mary Poppins.
I love this guy. he is funny, honest, and a genius. He must live another 200 years.
It really wasn't bad at all. It's a children's movie. It has depth, its magical, its fun. A lo better than other sequel or ”remakes”.
The original was also a kid's movie, but WAY better directed, composed, structured, and written, and the characters were much more complex. The art direction looked also way better and not like it was motion-capture. And why the hell did we need a cardboard villain?
Merry Christmas, Doug!!
When are we getting a Nostalgia Critic review of this Doug?
Yes. None of these new Disney remakes/sequels NEED to exist. At all.
Just because they don't *need* to exist, doesn't mean they can't work.
Right...no sequels or remakes need to exist at all as The Empire Strikes Back or Sam Raimi's Spiderman
SpaceCowboy Eddie No movie needs to exist, technically.
Why not? It looked like everyone who made it had fun.
Studios selling and relying on nostalgia is killing art.
No, it's really not. Sorry, but you can't whine about nostalgia yet think Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse is worthy of winning best picture.
@@neosoontoretro Spider-Verse has no nostalgic merits. It's all *new*.
Nope. Big companies cynically cashing in on nostalgia is killing it. You can do nostalgia right, if you really care about making something that captures what was good about the original while still being fresh on its own.
@@Kibaoftheleaves What are you talking about it's SPIDER-MAN. They play the Spider-Man theme song, that pay homage to past Spider-Man movies. What are you talking about?
Sad thing is the studio could save a ton of money by cleaning and polishing the originals and putting them back in theatres so parents can bring thier kids to see the movies as they did.
A wooden leg named Jaden Smith...
I thought it was a fun time but i had issues. It was basically one big member berry for the original movie, the songs were pretty forgettable. But i did like Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel Miranda's performances. And i was especially fanboying over David Warner as Admiral Boom (Big Finish Productions has made me really love him) and i adored Dick Van Dyke's scene that warmed my heart
'member?
Huzzah! Unexpected Big Finish fan!
I grabbed my phone to Google Dick Van Dyke because I didn't know he was still alive. This movie on the whole is bullet proof, it was made for people who knew what they were going to see.
Wonder if someone will do a quick photoshop of the movie poster to turn her into Carmen Sandiego.
That Would Be Fuckin' Hilarious 😂
Where in the world is Mary Poppins?
Her color scheme is eerily similar to Peggy Carter in her title show, "Agent Carter". It's like there's only 1 way to dress an English woman.
Mary Poppins Returns is the most evil film I’ve ever seen, all because it hit every nostalgic bone in my body and made me cry at how magical it was. I really enjoyed it
nanny mc fee is a more faithful marry poppins interpretation. YOU CANT PROVE ME WRONG
You are wrong. #PROVED
True Very True Alfa
Alfa fox #givepakistanitslandback
Mary Poppins was adapted from the titular series by PL Travers. Nanny McPhee is adapted from a book series called Nurse Matilda by Christine Brand.
I will agree with you here Alfa fox
You know what's weird? I thought that because the villain appeared in the cartoon sequence as a nasty wolf scheming against them, I thought 'oh that's actually him and he's a magic user working against Mary Poppins" like how cool would that be?? No? just me? I can see that. But it left me wondering why on earth he was there unless a) Mary wanted him to be there since she created that world or b) the character manifested depending on the fears of the children. I agree with you when you say like 'that song is like this song from the first movie, this scene is like that scene' like that was me through the whole movie. It left me feeling empty because it's like 'I thought we would get something new..."
"It's a story about the family trying to get a bit closer together, particularly the father with the children." ... Oh, it's one of THOSE kinds of stories! :p
Great! I've always fantasized seeing Mary Poppins climax.
Is that a talking umbrella in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
They're magical - put you on the ceiling.
Do you need a heaping serving of sugar for this medicine to go down?
plasticbutler no for this movie to go down
The BIG bottle of Jaegermeister?
....what we need is a paid Disney troll measuring tape to see just how high they can pile it in these comments
Raw sugar is gross
Wow. Talk bout completely missing the point that this a kid's movie and it's primary goal is childlike joy. Its bout adults such as me, to relieve all tensions and responsibilities and turn back into a kid for two hours and the film achieved that. It was beautiful. C'mon, Doug.
I saw this coming from a mile away lol
I personally adored this film but I completely understand someone not liking it, too
6:50 "MARRY POPPINS HAS A CLIMAX NOW-"
OwO Whats this?
Ok, I say what you did there.
*notices umbrella bulge*
Is that a talking umbrella in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
Marry Poppins returns : probably one of The longest wait for sequel ever
Nathaniel Foga except that no one ever was waiting for it
You’re everywhere.
@@susanalopez5052 just like toy story 4
It’s the longest gap between original and sequel, ever.
Just another unnecessary sequel/reboot.
I kinda already knew he wasn’t going to like it
David Villaseñor same
David Villaseñor I already know he was gonna hate it
David Villaseñor there’s something wrong with him.
Well... He hates everything these days. I guess making Nostalgia Critic has made him super nitpicky. What a great film!
Jonathan Pinz0n what do you mean? Him not liking a movie means there’s something wrong with him? I don’t get it
Me and my boyfriend went to see Mary Poppins returns and it was actually pretty good
It's supposed to be based on the sequels of the original books.
So basically this was a remake rebranded as a sequel to justify any slight differences
When I saw Disney remaking Mary Poppins, my initial reaction was, "...Nope." And then I went and bought the original on DVD.
The two things that stuck out to me the most:
1) How is Admiral Boom still alive, considering he was already old in the original movie? Unless that was another crazy old man who took over the mantle of firing off the canon every hour on the hour.
2) So....Michael drew that little family portrait on the back of the very document they needed? Why would he do that? He clearly would have been old enough to have known better. Not to mention the fact that it means he HAD the document he needed in his hand and he just carelessly tossed it aside to be discarded.
I mean I didn’t really have an issue with this movie. I loved Jane and Michael, Annabelle and John weren’t my favorites even to the end. Jack was charming and it did give me a ton of nostalgia for the original. The villain was useless and I agree that the climax of the original was so much better. But to me, it wasn’t a bad movie. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible either. I’m a musical theater geek so the music is stuck in my head and it is entertaining enough. I liked the whole was it real or not element in the beginning of the film. I thought it was a nice touch and even carries through with Mary saying she has no idea what the kids are talking about. We can all agree that Angela Lansbury is just the worlds loving mother and was amazing in this movie. Love it 😊
Completely agree
...I think I just heard P.L Travers turning over in her grave.
Two Shoed Tommy
Agreed
Only fanboys think that.
I still wish it succeeds in theater because I want Disney to know that we still care about 2D animation.
Exactly. 2 years later, and it’s still gone
This is actually a brilliant review. Thank you!
Possible Old Vs. New?
These are always so fun to watch
Disney remakes are really testing my dedication to humanity
At this point, Disney should probably just change their logo to a bird regurgitating food to its young.
The music is good, but not iconic like the original. Emily Blunt's performance was great.
I honestly loved it, then again all I watched in theaters besides this was Superhero flicks so this was a good refresher for the Christmas time
So... when is he reviewing the new Grinch movie? I'd like to see what he thinks of it, compared to the Jim Carrey version.
I admit that the film is pretty derivative and some of the new elements are pretty cliched but I've had so much fun with the film that I didn't let those elements bother me too much.
I loved the visuals, I loved the music, I fucking adored Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, she just filled those shoes perfectly.
Problematic in parts but I've had a blast with it.
They gave Mary poppins real life problems. They really killed it for me. I'd been happier if I didn't see this movie.
Well, I’m smelling a future Nostalgia Critic. Would you agree?
I hope it’s not gonna be another skit review.
I saw this movie and I liked it,I disagree with Nostalgia Critics review. I am glad there was a conflict for them to overcome ,this is set in the 1930s things have changed this isn’t your Mom’s Mary Poppins . I don’t think lamplighter dance scene was bad yes it was basically the Chimney Sweep Dance ,I felt like it was paying homage to one of the best songs in the old movie. I think people even the Nostalgia Critic need to understand this is not a remake of Mary Poppins, this is a sequel with nods to the original, the story is different . When Dick Van Dyke’s character returned the audience actually clapped and cheered. I like the original and this movie ,this movie is a fresh new story. The kids are not all identical, the older two are the more grown up ones, the youngest one is the more optimistic one who believes in magic and has the imagination. The reason Michael doesn’t believe or remember is actually pointed out by the parrot that grown ups forget . The song is not Super(whatever) it’s actually a very very subtle dirty song I mean it’s very subtle you won’t even be able to know it ,it’s supposed to be that kind of song . Jack is Bert’s apprentice,he even says he worked with Bert. Also Emily Blunt never tried to be Julie Andrews, she actually based her Mary Poppins on the book’s Mary Poppins.
As a person who loves the original movie, I found it to be quite nice. It filled me with that sense of magic, though not as much as the original. The humor was amazing, the acting was great, and the soundtrack, though not the best, was still great. I can see why Doug doesn’t like it that much, seeing as how he is a devout fan of the original, but I personally loved it.
You know, they could of had Poppins visit a new family and the new Bert character could be Michael, so if kids wanted to know why he knew Poppins, boom, original movie.
His review of this was so funny, the 1st viewing was funnier
To be honest, your criticism doesn't make sense a bit. You say that you wanted it to be different because it's a sequel but you also don't like the changes they made saying they should've kept it like in the original. Mostly, i agree with you but i really enjoyed this movie. When they did all the references i actually was nearly jumping in my seat.
It's funny how when he stumbles over Dick Van Dyke's name at the beginning it's to the tempo of Step In Time 😂
I grabbed two balloons so I didn’t forget how much fun I had in the cinema by the next morning.
