Funny you'd make an entire video about Extinction, because last Sunday me and a few friends were part of a custom map tournament organized in a custom map server that has Extinction in the rotation! When you mentioned the server running Extinction I half expected it to be it haha
Now we're not the best players out there, as seen in the 6v6, no class, no weapon restriction match boiling down to whatever team can hog the cart faster with a heavy-vacc-medic combo (and the cheater on the other team leading the match to be redone), however I can guarantee the map is every bit of fun you mentioned, and then some.
Like you said - there's rarely any downtime, and the map being so open, even with the chokepoints, rarely makes the game feel unfair, which is a very important point you brought up (or maybe I'm just biased since I play Scout/Soldier). The geysers periodically raising from the ground allow basically every class to flank at any point in time under the correct circumstances, leading to even the loudest heavy mowing down a camping sniper, and the theming is immaculate and the color pallete isn't dull but also doesn't hurt to look at.
I just love the timing in the video, because that was literally one of the most fun days I had in the game, even if both teams were just rolling eachother with a fat man on top of the bomb.

The map design is really good, kinda felt like a better goldrush/hoodoo
Sniper doesn't instantly delete people anywhere due to cover, there are plenty of areas to have fair fights in the open and there are a bunch of flank routes, only issue we had was from the semi and last point, felt like a nightmare to push forward

I actually ended up playing this map on a Team Fortress Classic server of all places, and it was a good experience, even though there were only around 6 to 8 people in the server at the time.
Yeah, this map is often voted for in TF2C.
It's a shame we can't get a dino themed proper update but the maps phenomenal and deserves to be in regardless.

it's weird that not a lot of others use them since they are so fun, i can only think of koth_cauldron as an axample.

The's maps just perfect. Plays great any time. Snipe lines are shut down by the flanks.

It’s such a crime that this map hasn’t been added officially. Hopefully that changes at some point
Funny thing is, I've played it a lot and didn't really think about all the flanks there are. It kind of reminds me how much people tend to force through the closest path to the objective, which is why the sheer amount of time it offers is important. It gives people TIME to explore the map and it's flanks. Something valuable in tf2 that many maps fail to budget properly in the design. Consider bringing that up in your next video.

They actually play this map a fair bit on the tf2c custom weapons server, as well as the normal servers, I think

i personally love barnblitz, but thats mostly due to the way the map looks, i really like how memorable most places on the map are, and i fear that this map might lack that. upward is similar albeit mostly a really good map regardless. the "tunnels" imo could use more visual identity.
that said, from what ive seen in the video there are canidates in this video too. would def try it out if it ever ended up in rotation again

I spend a lot of time working on maps for Team Fortress 2, so naturally I had a server in Europe where I hosted my own maps on, and also leave it open for the public to play on, I did host Extinction on it and I would usually get 6-7 players.
However my server retired JUST 2 WEEKS AGO before you published this video. Lmao.

I've been playing on the Bad Weapon Rehabilitation servers recently and playing on Extinction with all the weapon rebalances is amazing. Personal favorite game I had was playing Medic and running around with the Overdose in all the open space.

you know it sucks that the entire sniper class exists because more open spaces in tf2 would actually make the game fun, it’s just some weird new-Zealand’s decided to pick up a funny looking rifle and point it at the people he hates. I’m pretty sure if sniper got needed into the ground tf2 would be double as fun as it is currently because you wouldn’t have to worry about the kiwi boy with too many points on the scoreboard insta-killing you all the way from his home country

I would but I don't know the first thing about hosting a server, and I also don't really feel the need to run a discord yet - I'm relatively reclusive as a person. I imagine that, for the most part, playing most custom maps won't be as much of a pain as Extinction was.
If it becomes a serious problem I'll reconsider.
