I had to comment...this video is SPOT ON! I had been noticing strange behavior with my 2013 Chrysler 200. From a cold start, the idle would lope/pulse and then smooth out. Then I would notice with a slightly off idle gas pedal, it would seem to surge. I thought it might be a dirty MAF sensor. I cleaned it but with no change. I was on my way home from work the other night and the dreaded red lightening bolt appeared which caused no response from gas pedal input and a virtually fixed rpm of about 1600. I was able to limp the car to my friends house for safety. After watching your video, I got the replacement part, installed it (literally 20 minutes...start-to-finish) and the issues are gone. Fantastic details from exactly what size sockets to installation, torque and order...really awesome! I decided to open my original TBA and discovered that the teeth were gone on the butterfly gear...just like in your video. Fortunately, like you, I did not have to relearn the throttle position sensor. I also didn't have any codes (AutoZone was near where I had the issue so I asked them to check for any codes). Great work, as always! Oh BTW, the other video about replacing the trans oil cooler hoses is spot on, too! Thanks a million! Oh and for the record, the average cost to have the TBA replaced is around $450 US, I did it for $60 with the help of this video!
Dealer changed it at 82000 Kms for about $800 CAD. Acting up again at 162000 Kms. Part cost me $140 on amazon. I changed it myself in under an hour. Thanks for the excellent detail in this video!
From one mechanic to another I commend you on your level of thoroughness on your videos. From the step by step breakdown to individual torque specs. Great job.
Its always great to hear from fellow mechanics. Thats the feedback that has the most weight. Appreciate you watching and for commenting! Make sure to subscribe!
Thanks William! I have to give credit to my editing software lol. Its always great to hear the feedback from the viewers. Many thanks and make sure to subscribe.
2020 Jeep Compass just showed that code, it has been doing exactly what you explained. I have an apt in a week to have it looked at. So glad I ran across your video. I just hope it's covered under warranty now.
Awesome explanation, I'm just a husband who wants to fix my wife's car, and I'm waiting to have car towed home to do this exact procedure...Thank you so much sir... YOU'RE THE MAN, YES SIR!!
Thank you for this super helpful video! My aunt just called me to come reinstall the throttle body on her 2007 Caliber. Apparently some 'mechanic' came and took it off & wanted a lot of money to put it back on. Realizing he was trying to rip them off, they told him just leave it. Now I see what I need to do/check. I bet the plastic gears inside are worn. This video gives me the confidence I need to go finish the job. Or try to!
Awesome....as you saw there really isnt much to it. Take your time and it will go smooth. Thanks for commenting and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.
Thanks so much. I was going to try to take one apart to learn what actually fails and you saved me the trouble. Best video I've seen on throttle body replacement. Also thanks for the torque specs! Outstanding!!
I watched alot of mech videos, especially about this throttle body replacement. Yours was hands down the most professional and the best. Great job man!
Thanks! Very helpful and well done. Everything was exactly as you said and showed. The Christmas tree clip was the toughest part, I put the wire back with a zip tie so its easier next time. There was only 58K miles on the car/throttle body. I didn't take the gears out of the old one to check but there was noticeable play in the throttle plate. The repair didn't take long at all, I did it while my girlfriend made dinner and I finished before the meal was ready.
Awesome! Great job and appreciate you taking my video along for the repair. Glad to see it helping people. Thanks for the update and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Got an 08 compass in the shop. I Told boss man needed new tbi, he didn't listen and went with a pcm reprogram. Guess today we're doing the tbi, i love it when I'm right ha ha thanks for the in-depth video.
The Boss man aways thinks they are right lol. Not many software updates fix issues related to a throttle body. Once you get it off....if there is no core, open it up and check it out. Might find oil in it or some stripped gears. Its always cool to see the inner working of things from time to time. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe. Get that Boss to watch some of these videos lol.
Awesome! Glad it all went well. When it comes to the throttle bodies....I try my best to stick with OEM. Not many aftermarket companies I trust. None the less.....thanks for the update
This is a great video! My 2015 Chrysler 200 is running in to this problem currently so I’m gonna do a throttle cleaning service to see how that fixes it and then try your recommendation with replacing the throttle body! Thank you!
Excellent! well done David! My Patriot has been giving me warnings for months and finally wouldn't go over 25mph on Friday all the way home. I can't believe they would use plastic gears. I guess it's another buck they saved during manufacturing.
Hate that it happened. There is a chance that it might be the issue. When possible go with the mopar replacement.....havent had great luck with the aftermarkets. Some times they cause new issues. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
LOL, I just got a Dorman new from Napa, not rebuilt. It has a " lifetime warranty" and Its easy enough to replace. Don't plan on keeping this Patriot much longer anyhow. Once again thank you for the video and the great advice. Yes I just subscribed. Take care
Just finishing up tested out works mint dealer wanted 1;100$ cost me 240$ 5 hrs give or take including getting part. Better power especially in pedal thanks for video yippie
Thanks a bunch for this video. My 2015 Patriot has 100,000 mi and is sometimes throwing the red lightning bolt and now is just giving me some weird intermittent throttle response pulses. It's time to replace it I think so this is very helpful.

Excellent video. One of the best "how to" auto repair videos I've seen. I'm a red seal Mechanic and a UA-camr and I certainly couldn't have done nearly as good of video.
Rick B They quoted me over $200 labour and $900 for the part. We got ours from Bumper 2 B for less than half that, and if I had done the repair even once before, could have done it in 15 minutes easy. It took me just over an hour because I couldn't find the right socket. Lol
Amazing video. Just saved me a lot of money thank you for your thoroughness and breakdown. Amazing job! I’ve subscribed and will refer you to my friends. Have a great one!

Great video hopefully you will come out with a replace the starter video for the 2014 Chrysler 200. I had got a po402 code saying I may need a catalytic converter but it might need a new throttle body.
Great video !!!!! just a couple questions to confirm before I start I should disconnect the battery first and ......I seen you mention 65inch pounds and 18ftpounds is that the size of the bolts what you're mentioning
Disconnecting the battery is a good idea. As far as those numbers you mentioned.....thats how tight to torque those bolts using a torque wrench. You can get by without it....just dont over tighten them.
I want to say thanks for that comment. I really means something. I appreciate you watching and make sure to subscribe Pat and check out my other videos.
My Chrysler 200 2013 was doing the same thing first it was over heating then after I fixed the over heating those new lights came on nn it started moving real slow it was so hard so now I tried to replace my throttle body sensor by my self nn the lights still on
The first step is to see what the codes are. Also....did you clear the code or codes after your replaced the throttle body? The codes will not clear right away on their own....it can take a few days for driving if the issue is fixed for the light to go off.
Possibly or a large vacuum leak somewhere.I would have it checked out first before replacing things....could be something simple. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe.
What vehicle will you be doing it on? Just trying to see it in my mind so I know what to mention as far as tools. Typically a simple 1/4 inch drive socket/ratchet set is all you need which pretty much all parts stores carry in their tool section or your local home improvement center.
@@MotorCityMechanic 2014 chyrsler 200. and ok I'll write that down. I'm really nervous to do it but i don't have choice lol. Your video was minimal and straight forward thank you !
Great vid thanks, my wife has a 2014 compass that had the same issue about a year ago, throttle wouldn’t work and engine light, abs, and traction control light came one. I disconnected the battery for about 30 mins and car went back to normal, until this past weekend i disconnected the battery again and the issue went a away. You think the throttle body needs to be replaced or is it just a glitch I live in northern NJ and both times it happened in the winter could it be from grime, Road salt, etc etc.... thanks
I have a jeep cherokee 2015 with 2.4L and it is underpowered due to the high curb weight and the 9 speed transmission. Is there any way to beef up the engine so it does not feel wanting sometimes. I know the transmission is not the smoothest. Thanks and like your videos !!!
Afternoon, there isnt anything that I know of or that I have seen so far to get you any more power especially with it having that size engine. The Journey feels the same for sure with the 2.4........gutless! There may be something out there but the 2.4 isnt really anything that companies go after for any mods or performance upgrades. Thanks for the kind words about the videos/channel. Its much appreciated. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already.
is it possible to have these symptoms minus the codes and dash lights? I hear the ticking noise, have hesitation, and all the other things you mentioned, but no trouble lights or codes
2011 Chrysler 200....never owned a car I hated so much. It now has the red lightning bolt light and traction control light on. It's using a excessive amount of gas I'm getting about 20 mpg and now will only run about 10 mph on flat ground at full throttle
There is a chance that throttle body is the issue. I dont recommend the aftermarket replacements....they dont last. Go with the MOPAR version if you can. For the most part the 2.4 engine holds up great except for some items like the throttle body that I see once in a while.
I had to comment...this video is SPOT ON! I had been noticing strange behavior with my 2013 Chrysler 200. From a cold start, the idle would lope/pulse and then smooth out. Very true.

I should add that I didn't bother torquing "exactly to spec"...just tightened them firmly.
...If it falls off, I'll let y'all know. 😉
Here is a secret.....I dont either lol. But its best to include the info in the video for those who want to know.
Plastic gears, nice idea. PA46 is a popular nylon used.
This is a great video one question is electronic connections only have one side to push other side broke how can I get it off??
My Chrysler 200 2013 was doing the same thing first it was over heating then after I fixed the over heating those new lights came on nn it started moving real slow it was so hard so now I tried to replace my throttle body sensor by my self nn the lights still on
The first step is to see what the codes are. Also....did you clear the code or codes after your replaced the throttle body? The codes will not clear right away on their own....it can take a few days for driving if the issue is fixed for the light to go off.
It’s still doing the clicking noise and I don’t have the thing for the codes and my car won’t start
The ridiculous spring tension is reduce the tendency of the throttle sticking open which is killing the gears.
Gotta 2012 Chrysler 200 thats running at about 5000 rpms.... throttle body need replaced?
Possibly or a large vacuum leak somewhere.I would have it checked out first before replacing things....could be something simple. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe.
can you list a link where i can get these basic tools please. I plan on doing this myself!!!
What vehicle will you be doing it on? Just trying to see it in my mind so I know what to mention as far as tools. Typically a simple 1/4 inch drive socket/ratchet set is all you need which pretty much all parts stores carry in their tool section or your local home improvement center.

What happen if I drive it like that my 200 Chrysler electric throttle light warning just come on
You could experience a loss of power and possible no throttle pedal response.
Question, if my throttle body part is stuck open does that mean it HAS to be replaced or can I simple clean it to get it working?

2011 Chrysler 200....never owned a car I hated so much. It now has the red lightning bolt light and traction control light on. It's using a excessive amount of gas I'm getting about 20 mpg and now will only run about 10 mph on flat ground at full throttle
There is a chance that throttle body is the issue. I dont recommend the aftermarket replacements....they dont last. Go with the MOPAR version if you can. For the most part the 2.4 engine holds up great except for some items like the throttle body that I see once in a while.
My 2013 Chrysler 200 is doing the exact same thing. This is very frustrating. What is the Mopar version. What's the ballpark cost for this piece.
good job very simple
Got the throttle body changed out but still got it on limp mode and the same codes.. P2110 P2111 P2112
