Just so everyone knows I changed my leaking intake manifold gasket and my problem went away. It was not the throttle body. Even tho I had the red lightning bolt and limp mode. Problem solved. I also had a leaking primary thermostat housing I replaced that too.
Thats awesome, glad to hear that, thank you for watching, hopefully in the future i might be able to help u out further, please consider subscribing trying to get to 1k:)
Just did this work on my 2007 caliber. Here's my take. Getting to the hose clamp on the bottom of the air intake tube was no where near as easy as he made it look. Could have been the position mine was in but that's what I dealt with. The plastic snap that holds intake tube for support was impossible for me to get to without breaking. Everything else was about the same as seen in this vid and knowing the socket sizes saved time figuring that out. Over all this vid helped a lot and thank you for posting on here.
No, thank you. The tips u gave and knowing some details helped a lot. See of mine wasn't quite as simple to get to as seen in vid but this vid still helped a lot and I appreciate the vid. Thanks again
@@backyardchevy328 Man I need your help. I changed throttle body like we talked about and everything went well except difficulty on a few minor things. It is still flashing that red lightning bolt and driving goofy. It doesn't do all the time it may go a whole day and not do. I can get up to highway speeds it just takes longer. Idk what else it could be. I tried doing the calibration with gas pedal no luck
Man that was a very good detailed video. Good explanation of everything and you were able to keep everything in view in those tight spaces. Hats off to you sir. Thank you.
Thank you man! My car has been not running good at all lately and I searched up the other guys and they really didn’t help that much. Then I found you and it helped me SO MUCH. I’m only 18 and I’ve never worked on anything like this before and I was super scared and hoping I didn’t have to spent hundreds of dollars just to repair something simple. Again thank you so much for helping!!
My throttle body light was on also, I replaced the throttle body with an OEM one and the same problem was happening so I took my avenger to dodge for a diagnostic check and they told I had a vacuum leak in my intake manifold. So I replaced all the gaskets in the manifold and the problem was resolved that easily.
I was actually able to do it thanks to you. I had my doubts if this would solve the problem but it actually worked. The hardest part was getting the clip off the intake tube. I ended up just breaking it off but all is good. Total time 1h15m. Total money saved $420. Thanks.
Thanks! This video saved me several hundred dollars! Auto Zone wanted $220 for the part - bought the part online for $85 and saved tons on labor - Very much appreciated!

I just got done installing a throttle body on my 2013 Dodge Avenger black top addition and it only took like 35 minutes $75 from Amazon , every time I gave it gas it would slow right down to 30 km an hour wouldn't go any faster the lightning bolt red light came on and the traction control light came on and the check engine after that new part it's all running good .. To remember to use a new gasket orange gasket on there and don't over tighten the bolts
Videos like these have saved me $100s in repairs in the past few months. I may have to replace the ETC on my Avenger sometime in the next month or so. Just to clarify, in the vid, you showed the gasket and said that if it's flat, it will need to be replaced. If it's still good, then I'd just move it to the new throttle body, correct?
Yea if its flat anywhere around it, youll wanna replace it, if it still has its shape you can reuse it and leave it on the groove it sits in...im so glad these videos can be helpful🙂 thank you for the support
With the help of your video, I was able to replace the throttle myself! $50 part (almost too cheap looking...) and just a few bolts. The only issue I had is that I broke the electric connection clip... so tension appears to be holding in fine but its not "snapped" in with the clips. Not sure if I need to do something about that...
it’s giving me hope that people in the comments are fixing the problem. my dad still hasn’t gotten around to fixing the problem. i supposed i could try doing it myself with minor assistance from an uncle or someone. i’ve been dealing with this problem for months now.
Hopefully ur able to get around to fixing the problem, cause when i drove it once like that it just felt dangerous cause itd happen all of a sudden...have u been able to scan it for check engine light codes?
Thank you so much my guy...I fixed this problem on my car today, the shop wanted to charge me $180 to fix it, even when I told them I would bring the part. I used the link u put in the description and grabbed the part the only had 1 left. I did exactly what you showed me and got it done in under 45 mins. It’s back up and running. Thanks 🙏🏽.
Thanks for the video first and for most!! I along with help from my sister replaced my throttle body but my check engine light is still on.. How do i get it cleared?? Please help
Thank you🙂 thats awesome! well since it was a engine code it wont erase on its own...well u can either drive it to autozone or similar auto parts store to reset it..or if u have a scanner..or u can also disconnect the negative terminal on battery but its not as easy to get to on those and itll also reset other things so thats more of a last resort

My ETC light (thunder bolt) is on, but my car doesn't turn on at all. I don't have an issue with RPM because the car doesn't ignite, it gets electricity, but nothing else. Any idea if changing this throttle body would help? The last job the car had done was replacing the throttle body at a shop. But the car has just been sitting in the drive way for a few years now, can't take it back to that shop for any warranty
Did it have a check engine light on? The lightning bolt on? Do u know what codes it had if it did? Does it rev up and not accelerate? Or does it not rev up past certain rpm.
Thank you for your help I have a Dodge Caliber RT I'll be doing my throttle body install myself next month when it gets little bit warmer outside and I'll let you know how it come out thank you very much again
Just wondering is there a throttle position sensor (TPS) on the throttle? And can it be replaced with out replacing the full throttle body? Thanks for the video!
Silly question maybe.. would you also have to replace the throttle position sensor when you replace the throttle body? Also is it possible the tps sensor could be bad and not the throttle body?
the throttle position sensor is integrated in this type of electronic throttle body, so it comes together with the throttle body. That would be if u have a mechanical cable driven throttle body where it would be separate
Thank you so much:)...the new one comes without the gasket, but on the ones ive replaced the gasket was still good, but u do wanna make sure its not flat anywhere around it, or if not u will have to replace it.
For my avenger I had to a do a different relearning process after installing it,as the pressing the gas pedal slowly and lifting slowly then turning off did not work. INSTEAD I ran the car for three minutes in idle, turned it off for one minute then turned it back on and it worked perfect. Hope this helps anyone!
I own 2014 Jeep Compass and it’s basically same unbolting. Only issue is the coolant tube is in the way, either you remove it out the way or painfully work through it.
U turn the key to the on position without starting it...very slowly press gas pedal down til it stops....then very slowly release the gas pedal til ur off the pedal and turn the key back off and ur done
I dont think that's true. I think that just relearns the original throttle. The new throttle ,which is good, I just put on is having trouble reprogramming because be4 replacement I'm pretty sure the car went into limp mode. Do we really have to reprogram this with a $1000 scan tool or has anyone had it go into limp mode before replacement and actually get it to pull out of limp mode after replacement with no tool?

can throttle body be removed, cleaned with throttle body cleaner and reinstalled ... or when lighting bolt shows up it's a must new replacement ? Thanks in advance.
Yes, it does depend on the code..theres certain codes that a throttle body cleaning could be helpful for...but the one on the video was definitely an issue with the throttle body internals
My light doesn’t stay on constantly it only comes on every now and then you could take a whole trip and it won’t pop up but then when you take a trip to the gas station it wont go over 10mph is this the same problem or is it something els
Thanks for the vid helped alot took me an hour or so. Seems like it worked. Does the check engine light eventually go away? I'm not getting any more codes
Thats great🙂 since its a engine related code itd have to be reset itll remain in the history..so youll have to reset it or disconnect the battery for a while
I didnt have to on other ones but after ur done its easy..just turn the key to on without starting it...press gas pedal very slowly all the way to the floor and release the gas pedal very slowly til the pedals back up..and turn the key to off and ur done
Just making sure the throttle body gasket is still in good shape, clean and not flattened...they have plastic gears inside that sometimes the teeth can break and ruins the throttle body unfortunately, and with plastic gears u cant really trust how long theyll last
I will definitely check on that, it turns out it may be the battery having a bad connection but that's covered under warranty and my daughter is at AutoZone now I will definitely find out either way
Thank God it was just a bad battery and my 16 year old daughter thought first thing to stop at AUTOZONE to get the car checked without me even having to tell her to do so, Daddy didnt raise no fool haha she's a saint!! Thanks again tho for your info!!
do u have the etc light(lightning bolt) and check engine light codes? if so, it could be caused by the throttle body as well but u always wanna be sure to check the connector or wiring to throttle body for any damaged wires.
As I understand the throttle body and ECU system works like the potentiometer is connected to the ECU and the throttle body motor pins are connected to the ECU. so turning the potentiometer( pressing the gas pedal) will turn the throttle motor and the valve will open and close. But I do not have a potentiometer in my project setup, I have a passenger counting script written on a raspberry pi ( that replace the ECU) and the passenger counting result will decide on closing the throttle valve. but In my local store, I have seen throttle body ( together with the engine model for academics purpose) motor has 7 sockets like male pins ( in your I have seen 6 pins @ 5:46 )to connect to the ECU. how do I connect them to the raspberry pi or Arduino?
@@backyardchevy328 thank you for replying !!! first of all, what are the 6 male pins in the throttle actuator ?? second if I need to connect the throttle body to an Arduino or raspberry pi controller (I do not need the TPS sensors to be connected because I do not need feedback to the Arduino or raspberry pi controller), how do I connect the throttle actuator to the controller and open or close the valve for some conditions like when the vehicle is overloaded?? sorry for the repeated words

hey boss this video heled out a lot as far as where it was and how to replace it, but I have a question.so I replaced it the other day and I put all the bolts back and the wire connecter back together to the body but after I put it together it should crank right back up is that right? after I put it in I cranked my car and it did not want to start up, why might that be.
@@joshholgin815 oh ok..and connection is completely clicked in? When installing the throttle body did u make sure that rubber gasket stayed in place and when u tightened bolts u tightened em lil by lil so it tightens evenly?
I have a Dodge caliber which makes me think why does the ETC has to be placed in such inconvenient place. You have to remove a lot of stuff before yoh can access the ETC. Now I am learning why people avoid American cars the hard way. When I check ETC Repair of Hoda, Toyota etc. It's so easy and it only takes u 5 min.
it depends on the part...the starter on the honda i have a video on, the people in comments say theyll never buy another cause of where they put it and how hard it is to replace..on toyotas they dont like the oil filter cartridges, cause if overtightened they can make a 15 minute oil change last hours...but yea on gm's they do ruin things like replacing headlight bulbs u have to drop the bumper to remove headlight housing to get to bulb.
hello...when i installed it, it didnt, but if it does its easy to perform...u turn the key on without starting the vehicle...then u very very slowly press gas pedal til it touches the floor, then u very very slowly release the pedal until ur completely off the pedal...then u turn key off and its done.
Have a 2010 Avenger, lightning bolt came on one day. Changed the batter and the Throttle Body and still same issue with not wanting to start. It's starting to frustrate me. Any help would greatly be appreciated!
Engine cranks but doesnt start? I would try and get it scanned first to see if theres any check engine light codes associated with it, since usually that lightning bolt is associated with a sensor going bad or some sort of malfunction.
I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger and it’s doing exactly the same thing ! .. just like the beginning of your video! After you replaced the part ? Has your car giving you any problems since ?

Okay, I see you have commented on everyone else’s comment thank god. But my car when I’m drive and neutral won’t accelerate above 2k rpms and doesn’t want to go and when in park it usually revs past 4k rpms but won’t anymore is the throttle body the problem?

The only lights that where on was the two lights the throttle bolt light and traction no check engine light I did clean the throttle once and this time I believe it’s done it lasted about a month and then car started driving funny and couldn’t move and those where the only lights
good evening, yea its possible its just a problem with the battery since that code is a problem with the circuit/power supply, so yea id start with making sure the battery voltage is good, and if the code still comes on after the battery problem is fixed just check the connector for any damaged wiring
Mine shows it when I’m turning on the car. Sometimes when it does show, the car just clicks but won’t turn on. Is it the throttle that needs to be changed? If I do change it, will the car run smoother and faster? I feel like mine doesn’t run as fast and seems to struggle to pick up speed.
Well that light will always turn on for a second or two when u turn key on, but should turn off..if ur car just clicks and doesnt crank..it usually means ur battery connections might be loose or need to be cleaned or possibly battery going bad or starter issue
@@backyardchevy328 I bought a new battery and alternator so I know that isn’t the case. I mention this because the light just started showing recently and The car just idles and won’t turn on. So I want to be someone positive that that might be the issue.

I took my throttle body out and cleaned it completely, but I noticed some rattling I already ordered a new one but it's definitely not supposed to rattle on the inside correct? lol
Yea majority dont...I know some have components like the pcv that would rattle but not in this vehicles case...I know the bad one i removed had a lot of rattle
The o-ring(gasket) has a round shape to it and when it sits in the groove itll be raised, but when theyre bad and should be replaced they become flat against the surface allowing air to pass through so when u tighten the throttle body and thatll become a leak and the car will never run right if left that way.
the pcm reflash is so that the computer could start new learning everything again...but I thought id have to do a relearn after installing this throttle body but all I did was install it...turn it on and it ran fine no problem..nothing else needed...and Ive done 3 of them so far.
The way to put it is you might need a pcm refresh. Be ready (financially) if you do, but it isn’t always needed. A mechanic will just do the refresh weather it needs it or not.

Just so everyone knows I changed my leaking intake manifold gasket and my problem went away. It was not the throttle body. Even tho I had the red lightning bolt and limp mode. Problem solved. I also had a leaking primary thermostat housing I replaced that too.

Maybe the caliber's slightly different than the avenger on the intake tube...glad u were able to get it done...thank you🙂
No, thank you. The tips u gave and knowing some details helped a lot. See of mine wasn't quite as simple to get to as seen in vid but this vid still helped a lot and I appreciate the vid. Thanks again

Idk what else it could be. I tried doing the calibration with gas pedal no luck

Glad to hear u were able to get it fixed..was there any codes or just the lightning bolt? Was it running rough at idle?
I was actually able to do it thanks to you. I had my doubts if this would solve the problem but it actually worked. The hardest part was getting the clip off the intake tube. I ended up just breaking it off but all is good. Total time 1h15m. Total money saved $420. Thanks.

Did you have to do any coding or have the car relearn the tps etc etc??
Just wondering is there a throttle position sensor (TPS) on the throttle? And can it be replaced with out replacing the full throttle body? Thanks for the video!
No, not on these..that was on earlier throttle bodies that were mechanical, cable driven...these are electronic so its all housed inside the unit
We’re did you ordered the car part I have same problem with a car
Great video. My brother is about to replace his too. But. What about the gasket? Will the new one come complete with one installed? Anyone?
Thank you so much:)...the new one comes without the gasket, but on the ones ive replaced the gasket was still good, but u do wanna make sure its not flat anywhere around it, or if not u will have to replace it.
For my avenger I had to a do a different relearning process after installing it,as the pressing the gas pedal slowly and lifting slowly then turning off did not work. INSTEAD I ran the car for three minutes in idle, turned it off for one minute then turned it back on and it worked perfect. Hope this helps anyone!
I own 2014 Jeep Compass and it’s basically same unbolting. Only issue is the coolant tube is in the way, either you remove it out the way or painfully work through it.
which did u end up doing?
Backyard Chevy I left the coolant on and worked around it
on my 2013 dodge avenger after I change out the throttle body do I need to recalibrate the new throttle body? if so, how do I do that?
U turn the key to the on position without starting it...very slowly press gas pedal down til it stops....then very slowly release the gas pedal til ur off the pedal and turn the key back off and ur done
I dont think that's true. I think that just relearns the original throttle. The new throttle ,which is good, I just put on is having trouble reprogramming because be4 replacement I'm pretty sure the car went into limp mode. Do we really have to reprogram this with a $1000 scan tool or has anyone had it go into limp mode before replacement and actually get it to pull out of limp mode after replacement with no tool?

do u have the etc light(lightning bolt) and check engine light codes? if so, it could be caused by the throttle body as well but u always wanna be sure to check the connector or wiring to throttle body for any damaged wires.
The 7th pin might be for models with the traction control button which that model didnt have

Hi,
Does it needs some kind of calibration?

Have a 2010 Avenger, lightning bolt came on one day. Changed the batter and the Throttle Body and still same issue with not wanting to start. It's starting to frustrate me. Any help would greatly be appreciated!
Engine cranks but doesnt start? I would try and get it scanned first to see if theres any check engine light codes associated with it, since usually that lightning bolt is associated with a sensor going bad or some sort of malfunction.

Which scanner tool did you use when clearing the codes?
Its an otc genysis ive had for years
Good evening I got a Cs2100 code and the that my battery was too low. Can it just be the battery or something else
good evening, yea its possible its just a problem with the battery since that code is a problem with the circuit/power supply, so yea id start with making sure the battery voltage is good, and if the code still comes on after the battery problem is fixed just check the connector for any damaged wiring

Is this one good too because I need it ASAP and the one in your link doesn’t get back in stock til the 22 www.carparts.com/details/Dodge/Avenger/Replacement/Throttle_Body/2013/SE/REPJ315001.html?TID=bngpla&origin=%7Badtype%7D&msclkid=62bf421ac89d107efa081f2551db270f&CPS-BNGPLA-Margin%2030%20to%2039%20percent&CPS-BNGPLA-Margin%2030%20to%2039%20percent-Fast%20Mover%20Adgroup&gclid=CMHohY272-MCFY75swodVCoGsw&gclsrc=ds
I changed out mine but after awhile the lightning bolt comes back on, i did the reset also by holding the gas pedal down then engine light blinks then stops & i turn it on & the lights go away until the next day, does the Erase Codes really help?
Mine only comes on when the engine is cold . Once it’s warmed up and restart the car it goes way for good.. repeat next morning or commute home…
Hey Sef I had the same issue, i got my buddy to reprogram mine but it still did the same.. THE WAY I FINALLY FIXED IT WAS CHANGING OUT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET.. like a $7 part & I dont got the problem nomore.. in another video it explains how that gasket shrinks abit in the cold and thats where it was leaking air.. hope yours works too
@@JoshJ05 thanks ! That’s the next part I was going to diagnose!
@@JoshJ05 so good news! I changed out the intake manifold gasket and bam! No more limp mode issues! Thanks a ton!
@@sef2273thats awesome, was going to make a video but still havent had time..
Does the Throttle Body need to be MOPAR? or does OEM work fine? Mopar is $250-300. OEM is $70-80.
The one we got for 70 hasnt had a problem yet and its been over a year... so far so good on the 70 dollar one
@@backyardchevy328 thanks guys! 🙌
Thanks for the video. I did this today.
Thats awesome...great job🙂 thank you
Thanks alot for this video bro...helped save me alot of money 🤟
Thats awesome..so glad to hear it🙂
I took my throttle body out and cleaned it completely, but I noticed some rattling I already ordered a new one but it's definitely not supposed to rattle on the inside correct? lol
Yea majority dont...I know some have components like the pcv that would rattle but not in this vehicles case...I know the bad one i removed had a lot of rattle
I already did this n I still have the same faults on my 2011 avenger any idea what could the cause?
Did u erase the codes or disconnect the negative terminal for 15+ mins to reset the codes?
What do you mean by "make sure the throttle body gasket is not flat"?.
The o-ring(gasket) has a round shape to it and when it sits in the groove itll be raised, but when theyre bad and should be replaced they become flat against the surface allowing air to pass through so when u tighten the throttle body and thatll become a leak and the car will never run right if left that way.
My 2013 dodge avenger is showing same. But will go above 2000 rpm. Same fix?
Does it have a check engine light as well? If so have u scanned it for codes?
My mechanic is claiming i need this plus a pcm reflash do you know anything about that?
the pcm reflash is so that the computer could start new learning everything again...but I thought id have to do a relearn after installing this throttle body but all I did was install it...turn it on and it ran fine no problem..nothing else needed...and Ive done 3 of them so far.
The way to put it is you might need a pcm refresh. Be ready (financially) if you do, but it isn’t always needed. A mechanic will just do the refresh weather it needs it or not.
Thank you, yea that is what i should have stated in my video:)
Man mine acting real dirty missing and lose of power. Thanks for video. Id like to know where you got yours for 80 bucks
