Before watching the video: I know that there were shields involved, and that it was somehow crazy thanks to the bonus mission from the Clone Campaigns, but how crazy was it? After watching the video: Uh, Wedge, what were you smoking?
Well from the tactics he used, I'm going with "mass murder of hundreds of millions possibly billions of civilians" just to destroy the generators, it's quite likely he killed nearly as many civilians in this single battle as the empire did in several years.
To be fair, Wedge was given a very small amount of time to pull off the ridiculous feat of dropping both of Coruscant's planetary shields before the rebel fleet arrived. (Yeah, TWO shields) They'd tried and failed to sneak some backdoor code into the city's central computer, so this was the only remotely plausible idea the Rogues had left.
@@cgi2002 there would have been almost no loss of life, Coruscant was subject to fast forming and fast disipating electrical storms so there were lightning rods everywhere, those would have protected civilians and massively reduced civilian casualties, only people who were outside at the time would have been at any risk and very few people had cause to ever go outside, the plan was to overload the power grid and force it to be shut down, which is exactly what happened. generators were not destroyed relays may have been but a significant part of the objective was to limit damage so power could be restored quickly
@@cgi2002 Wedge's tactics would not reasonably be expected to kill more civilians than most other approaches and the civilian impact was taken into account but there is one reality worth noting: there's almost no way to liberate a planet of a trillion without killing millions of civilians. Also worth noting that when Lusankya blasted free, the devastation her departure caused coupled with the impact of the Krytos virus far exceeded civilian deaths from the New Republic invasion and left a lasting memory for the local populace.
Coruscant Defense Fleet at this time was stated to have a dozen Victory class Star Destroyers but Isard reduced this number to two after seeding the Virus.
I gotta love The Battle of Coruscant. It's probably one of my most favorite Legends battles ever (especially for it having one of the most craziest moments in Legends history), and I really love the way you covered it here, Eck! I cannot wait to see more videos covering other battles! :)

The X-wing series is some of the best Star Wars content you can read! I remember not being able to put the first four books down when I read them a long time ago. As usual, you've done an amazing job with the battle break-down!! :-)
There's one universe that I'd think you'd really enjoy Eck, especially since you like Halo and Battlestar Galactica. Babylon 5 by JMS was a large inspiration for those later series, the UNSC especially drawing from B5's Earth Alliance. The entire show is on Amazon Prime, and if you have it, I highly recommend Babylon 5
He already did something similar this this with the Covenant ship winning, but for some off reason. The unsc infinity losing to this class of star destroyer. Most fans agree because he's biased to starwars.
Omg why does everyone always pit halo and star wars against one another? halo and mass effect is the better match up. Also the covie carrier wins because everything in disneys shitty excuse for star wars canon is weak
Its pretty wild given how many authors worked on EU material that literally no one could come up with a plot other than "a strike team will disable the shields from the inside." This is the solution to every tactical problem in Star Wars
Yeah but usually they are far cleaner than this. Think about it, creating super storms (which can't be aimed) to destroy several well armoured buildings on a planet with a population of over a trillion people. The civilian casualties would have numbered in the billions, the collateral damage would have devastated most of the planet. Really taking the planet would have been far simpler, you don't need a fleet or an invasion. A simple uprising would have cost far less lives, the planets garrison couldn't have numbered more than a few million, I really doubt they could have stopped the civilians simply taking it.
It's classic siege warfare. When you come up against a fortress with impenetrable defense, you can a) simply go around it and strike at more vulnerable targets, b) surround it and starve the occupants out, or c) find a way to sneak someone in and open the doors from inside. Rebel command decided against A; they wanted Coruscant, and they wanted it before some warlord beat them to it, for both its strategic and symbolic importance. They ruled out B, because they'd be vulnerable to those same warlords if they deployed their forces to blockade the planet, and the civilian population, especially the non-human population, would suffer. They needed a decisive victory.
@@dianabarnett6886 that's the thing tho. Realistically a siege of Coruscant would last at most a few weeks. The planet simply can't feed itself. Yes there would have been civilian casualties but the important part for the rebels is who would be to blame. In a siege the empire is to blame for the deaths as they failed to surrender or share supplies. But with this attack, the rebels are directly responsible for billions of civilian casualties, mass destruction of vital infastructure, and they still had to fight a battle afterwards to take the planet. It's actually reasonable to assume given what would have been destroyed infrastructure wise, that as many as half of the planets population would have died in the following weeks, as all spaceport facilities are damaged, all atmospheric controls are damaged, weather control is damaged (and the storms they caused would last for weeks or even months), the vast majority of key engineers, civil servants and business leaders who a new government would need also live in the upper levels, and can therefore be assumed to either be dead, or hostile to the rebels now due to them trying to kill them. Basically what the rebels did is turn Courscant into a giant slum, unable to feed itself, with few if any core systems operating. And the rebellion don't have the manpower to restore order, so without a healthy dose of plot armour, in a single act they just lost all their credibility, and turned most of the galaxies key planets against them As if the cost of liberation from the Empire is the complete devastation of your world, it's just not worth it.
the plan was to use the storm to overload the power grid, that worked, it did little damage and caused very minimal loss of life especialy when compaired to the exit of Lusanka or the Krytos virus. the full plan was to use the construction droid to force evacuation of the mirrror control facility, then take the facility (which worked, maybe a dozen imperials killed) then use the mirror to evaporate a resivour to cause a storm, and use lightining strikes to take down the power grid (again that worked, as storms on Courscant were extremely fierce lightning rods were everywhere, the only real damage was to power relays) that is where the plan hit a problem, there was a second backup power grid, a centeral relay station had to be killed, the concussion missiles on a headhunter were not up to the job but a TIE used as a guided missile was.
@@terryforsdyke306 yes that was the "plan" but it's BS. This is an EU novel, thus EU figures need to be used for power generation, shield strength, weapons, etc. By that logic it would take a few hundred thousand lightening strikes to bring down the weakest of shields, and probably a few hundred billion to overload a power grid. Yes, SW EU uses stupidly insane figures that have no basis in reality. So going by that logic, the surface of the planet would have had thousands of lightening strikes per square metre, if not more, that would quite literally cook the atmosphere itself, cause building materials to liquify and kill anything. Now take into account that the shield facility would really have been an armoured fortified structure, capable of withstanding turbolaser hits, you may need to scale the storm up even more. In truth the Lusankia's launch would have caused a fraction of the casualties this did. Even less if you think about it, the empire wouldn't have had it in an area with lots of civilians around, most industrial, as to lower the chance of anyone accidentally finding it.
Very excited to see this. Love all the battles over and on Coruscant, really incredible o think that one planet went through so many wars and took so much of a bearing from the sacking of the Jedi temple to the Yuuzhan vong invasion.
Let's see...the Sacking of Coruscant during the Jedi/Sith Cold War, the Raid on Coruscant during the Clone Wars when Grievous kidnapped Palpatine, the Battle of Coruscant here when the New Republic took the world, the battle when the Yuuzhan Vong conquered it, the battle when the Galactic Alliance reclaimed the world, I want to say one when the Fel Empire conquered it from the Galactic Alliance, the one when the One Sith Empire betrayed the Fel Empire and took it over, the one when the One Sith fell....Coruscant has a proud history of getting its ass kicked.
You know in Empire at war you can actually liberate Corasaunt from the Empire, it’s kinda like the Star Wars version of the battle of Berlin, it’s the final battle
At 2:50 there's mention of Wedge's trip to the Galactic Museum. Did that video ever get made? I appreciate this content so much. Keep up the good work.
Your tactical analyses are helping me tremendously with story and planning for the RP my friends and I are running in the Fantasy Flights Star Wars RP game systems! Thank you so much ☺️
I loved the X-Wing books so much. I remember I used to read them on road trips to visit family all the time. My Dad liked to buy me books before road trips so I wouldn't go literally fucking insane. I read this book when traveling to visit one of my uncles (Name of Patrick) and his wife and new kid. I was young. Maybe 13. It had just come out not long ago. What I most remember from that trip? My Uncle's vast back yard, his really cool cat who had eyes that were different colors and who liked me, and the book I read on the car ride.
I'd like to see something either on how you would have envisioned the future after Return of the Jedi . Or, what you would come up with for after The Rise of Skywalker.
If I were to retcon anything about this story I would play up the efforts of local dissidents to sabotage or capture key elements of the orbital defenses and shield. The super storm would be mostly just used as cover rather than relying on its destructive power.
Ever since your Covenant vs Vong video, I've been thinking about hyper-aggressive tactics and how to apply them More often than not, forgoing finesse in favor of brute force is portrayed as simple-minded and needlessly wasteful (i.e. those often employed by the _Galactic Empire_ or the _Covenant_) but I wanted to hear your opinion. What circumstances would validate using a sledgehammer over a scalpel, assuming you have the resources for both? Also, is this where we should ask our questions, or would you prefer we PM you or post somewhere else?
Damn Korn horn was bad ass he out ran lightning in a giant metal lightning rod essentially then managed to ram a tie interceptor into the shielding stuff which the only way i can think of that happening is if he purposely got one onto his tail aimed for the shield station then another rogue squadron pilot hit the engine area of the tie right before Korn pulled up to avoid the shielding station
You missed how they use the mirror to basically use a solar laser to melt into a water storage to create the storm. and how lasering the platform made the others surrender
I would religiously watch a lets play done by Eck of the new Dome game when it comes out... If he is in the middle of playing and just stops to point out something interesting or starts talking about the lore behind the demons he is in the middle of fighting it would be amazing!
A battle from BSG that i think would be fun if you broke down is this one: Battlestar Pegasus versus Cylon Ambush fleet (Season 2 Ep. 17 "The Captain´s Hand") Its very tricky to get good canon info on how the battle went down in detail, and how much damage was actually inflicted on the cylon hive ships by pegasus, wich is weird taking into consideration what happened during the exodus from New Caprica
Can we get some full breakdowns of Wraith Squadrons insane Mission Impossible style Plans? Looking forward for a whole series for "Mercy Kill" [X-wing book 10] Alone.
Couple interesting points about this battle. *Wedge's mission was to disable the planetary shields, not destroy them. The New Republic wanted to be able to turn around and use them to defend against any counterattack. After destroying the shield control center, they simply programmed the construction droid they were on the build another one. *The captain (and crew for that matter) of the interdictor cruiser tasked with the go/no-go decision for the rest of the fleet had only VERY recently defected from the Empire. She was humble by the amount of trust the New Republic was giving her.
Such a shame that episode 9’s original draft was basically this. Would’ve been another copied plot from Disney, but infinitely more interesting than Rise of Palpatine.
Im currently attacking coruscant in my empire at war campaign. Suffice to say the empire has a massive with a capital M fleet protecting the planet ( as in 6 imperial 2s, 5 imperial star destroyes, 10 victories and victory 2, and a whole bunch of smaller ships)
Will you ever cover the Stargate franchise, its got some great ships. Speaking of which try Stargates Wraith Hive-ship vs an Executor Super Star Destroyer, and there has been a strong lack of starship vs lately.
Some good stargate battles that ecks would do a good job with: the battle of asuras (atlantis), the destruction of anubis's superweapon (which is almost, but not quite, a rip off of the trench run in episode 4, but is more of a tribute, as it does some original stuff as well including clever usage of previously shown technology from earlier episodes) (sg1), the sabotage and ultimate destruction of Apophis's earth bound ships(sg1), the "simultaneous destruction of the milkyway replicators, overthrowing of Baal by the free Jaffa, and neutralization of anubis" (sg1), the first battle for atlantis (atlantis), the attempted invasion of earth by anubis (the president actually has the spine to troll him while also firing his conniving and cowardly vice president) (sg1), the battles against the wraith super hive ship (series finale of Atlantis), and the simultaneous destruction of a wraith hive ship and ori mothership (sg 1). I think two, at most three of these were covered by spacedock, but ecks would do well with these I think, as some of them are similar in structure and theme to the rogue squadron battles, using absolutely creative (translation: crazy and bonkers, though making sense sort of) strategies and tactics. Oh, and I forgot the battle where sg1 deliberately blows up a sun to destroy a resurgent Apophis's armada, that would be a good one too. I probably missed a few that ecks would do a good job with, add to the list I created if you like.
Have you looked into the book series written by David Weber known as the Honorverse series? A universe that spans over 30 books, and half a dozen factions.
Can you link that other crazy moment in SW Legends that you mentioned? Where Issa (spelling?) escapes Coruscant? Thanks for the great content. I'd love to see you talk about the Nao Nao (spelling again) with HiddenXperia, comparing it to the Flood. I've seen the video you did on it, but I think his energy would be a great counter to your calm demeanor.
Ysanne Isard is how her name is spelled. Here is the video talking about the Lusankya's escape, that crazy moment mentioned. Note, the Battle of Coruscant in this video takes place in book 2 of the X-Wing series, while the Lusankya video is in book 3. ua-cam.com/video/hzQblfsjjTk/v-deo.html
He's like Anakin from AOTC in terms of Force potential and early Force-sensitivity. Also he was trained in the ways of the Force both as a kid and by Luke later in life. So, not a Mary Sue.
The sheer ridiculousness of the Lusankya's escape is matched only by how the rogue Rogue Squadron took her down (and caught the Errant Venture in the process).
I would point out that the celebrations shown in Return of the Jedi were quashed by stormtroopers, and the feeds of the Death Star 2 blowing up were acquired and spread by slicers.

*gets hearted by Eckhart*
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
@@cgi2002 there would have been almost no loss of life,
Coruscant was subject to fast forming and fast disipating electrical storms so there were lightning rods everywhere, those would have protected civilians and massively reduced civilian casualties, only people who were outside at the time would have been at any risk and very few people had cause to ever go outside, the plan was to overload the power grid and force it to be shut down, which is exactly what happened. generators were not destroyed relays may have been but a significant part of the objective was to limit damage so power could be restored quickly
Keep up the awesome work Ecks!! At 7:57 in the video you showed the rebel victory cinematic from the Star Wars Rebellion computer game, OMG I LOVE THAT GAME!!!! I haven’t seen a copy in almost a decade!!!
It is on steam for 5 dollars.
Quality content my dude
The X-wing series is some of the best Star Wars content you can read! I remember not being able to put the first four books down when I read them a long time ago. As usual, you've done an amazing job with the battle break-down!! :-)
Really enjoyed this one. I like when you pull information from the books and then add even more detail to it. Keep it up!
Loving the discord, it's great to be able to know when vids are coming out and even get to talk to Eck sometimes!
3:20 Priority targets. 🎯
6:22 Fleet composition. ✈🛩
Covenant CAS assault Carrier vs Resurgent Star Destroyer (10th try)
shahmir m that’s a tough one
He already did something similar this this with the Covenant ship winning, but for some off reason. The unsc infinity losing to this class of star destroyer. Most fans agree because he's biased to starwars.
Omg why does everyone always pit halo and star wars against one another? halo and mass effect is the better match up.
Also the covie carrier wins because everything in disneys shitty excuse for star wars canon is weak
Finally a new battle breakdown. Please keep doing these we never see them anymore
Replicators vs a Unified Star Wars universe (402nd try now, *_I._** WILL NEEEEVER EEEVER GIVE UP!!!)*
I love it how Corran was the one to suggest using the "Death Star's" little brother to evac the control center.
Awesome use of footages and illustrations to narrate the event!
Hay eckhart have you ever thought of doing a fan competition to come up with there own Star Wars races and see what your community can come up with
You know in Empire at war you can actually liberate Corasaunt from the Empire, it’s kinda like the Star Wars version of the battle of Berlin, it’s the final battle
Stuff like this is why Legends is awesome.
Thanks for finally doing this battle!
At 2:50 there's mention of Wedge's trip to the Galactic Museum. Did that video ever get made? I appreciate this content so much. Keep up the good work.
It was probably this one: ua-cam.com/video/VOlehiIZFQc/v-deo.html
Your tactical analyses are helping me tremendously with story and planning for the RP my friends and I are running in the Fantasy Flights Star Wars RP game systems!
Thank you so much ☺️
You have the Rebellion game footage. That made my day. I spent way too much time playing that game in my youth in the best way possible.
Those books were awesome....Rogues and Wraiths
@@christopherreed9181 Some of the absolute best writing of dogfights in all of Star Wars
That outro always gets me

Ever since your Covenant vs Vong video, I've been thinking about hyper-aggressive tactics and how to apply them
More often than not, forgoing finesse in favor of brute force is portrayed as simple-minded and needlessly wasteful (i.e. those often employed by the _Galactic Empire_ or the _Covenant_) but I wanted to hear your opinion. What circumstances would validate using a sledgehammer over a scalpel, assuming you have the resources for both?
Also, is this where we should ask our questions, or would you prefer we PM you or post somewhere else?
I would love to see a whole movie about this battle.
He becomes a Jedi.
Hey man good job with the videos you keep doing you your doing a good job
Cool that the Capturing Coruscant cutscene in Empire at War AotR was used.
Cutscene is from older game Star Wars: Rebellion
You missed how they use the mirror to basically use a solar laser to melt into a water storage to create the storm.
and how lasering the platform made the others surrender
O great documentation of Captain Shack’s victory of retaking Coruscant
I would religiously watch a lets play done by Eck of the new Dome game when it comes out... If he is in the middle of playing and just stops to point out something interesting or starts talking about the lore behind the demons he is in the middle of fighting it would be amazing!
A very nice video EckhartsLadder.
You could say Rogue Squadron “vanished” for a while.
The scene where the statue comes down is referenced in X-Wing Book Six: Iron Fist
A battle from BSG that i think would be fun if you broke down is this one: Battlestar Pegasus versus Cylon Ambush fleet (Season 2 Ep. 17 "The Captain´s Hand")
Its very tricky to get good canon info on how the battle went down in detail, and how much damage was actually inflicted on the cylon hive ships by pegasus, wich is weird taking into consideration what happened during the exodus from New Caprica
A let's play would be a cool way to add more content to your channel!
I can’t seem to find the videos talking about the ssd leaving coruscant and it being the craziest moment, what video is it??
Nice footage from Star Wars Rebellion at the end there... :)
Just read these first 4 books (just captured Lusanke at Thyferra) and made all of the pilots for the X-Wing miniatures game
One tidbit that I found amusing is that there's this random Trandoshan commando helping rogue squadron in the later part of the book.
I GOT ONE!! the UNSC Home fleet Vs the Yuuzhan Vong world ship.
I’ve been waiting for this for so long
Oof! I thought it was when the Yuuhan vong had Coruscant.
None the less damn good video! Keep up the great work man.
Hi funny I was just watching one of your old videos of the first order fleet killer good as always!!😀
I personally would love to see you touch on the Homeworld universe.
Love that pic of the Lusankya escaping, where did you find it?
this is really cool! Hope you can do the battle of Thyferra at some point.
Eckhart, I am glad you stick to what you know best (SW and Halo), you’re damn good at it and I always enjoy your videos. Keep ‘em coming and MTFBWY.
Can we get some full breakdowns of Wraith Squadrons insane Mission Impossible style Plans? Looking forward for a whole series for "Mercy Kill" [X-wing book 10] Alone.

I check in all day/night, and try to read most comments
Big Fan Eck! Who do you think would win between Darth Maul and Mace Windu?
@@Cosmonaut_Connor windu
Thanks Eck! I’m going to turn on notifications now lol
I just realized it you look on the celebrating crowd on coruscant you can see a stormtrooper or two dangling in the crowd.
I love the X-Wing series! Could you do a character analysis of Kirney Slane, aka Lara Notsil, aka Gara Petothel?
Such a shame that episode 9’s original draft was basically this.
Would’ve been another copied plot from Disney, but infinitely more interesting than Rise of Palpatine.
Im currently attacking coruscant in my empire at war campaign. Suffice to say the empire has a massive with a capital M fleet protecting the planet ( as in 6 imperial 2s, 5 imperial star destroyes, 10 victories and victory 2, and a whole bunch of smaller ships)
I happen to be reading the X-Wings books now. Good stuff.
I didn’t realize there was a stormtrooper being toss like a rag doll in the crowd
Another great video.
Warframe Orokin vs Halo Forerunners vs Star Wars Yuuzhan Vong (Comparison)
Love your vids the Vendor was my fav ship in Star Wars
I’d be disappointed as hell if I was defending the capital and they only send 2 ships.
Have you looked into the book series written by David Weber known as the Honorverse series? A universe that spans over 30 books, and half a dozen factions.
How he makes that fleet moving Animations? It lokks rly cool!
Love your content man
You should do a video on the Fall of Cadia in 40k breakdown video.
You wanna talk Mary sues? Look no further then Corran frakking Horn...
Wouldn't that be more of a Marty instead of a Mary? 😀
He does fail here and there especially in Rogue Squadron, but at least he has a nice personality.
No. It's only being a mary sue when you're a girl. When you're a guy, it's authorial bias.
He's like Anakin from AOTC in terms of Force potential and early Force-sensitivity. Also he was trained in the ways of the Force both as a kid and by Luke later in life. So, not a Mary Sue.
@@earthhoundthat's called a Garry stu.

You should do a galactic vs with the imperium of Man vs the forerunners from Halo
Zentradi Complete dolas fleet( SDF Macross) vs High Charity and its defense fleet( Halo).
If you can cover more Star Trek, Babylon 5, Firefly; that would be great =D
Consider doing the bacta war as a whole, that would be cool.
The sheer ridiculousness of the Lusankya's escape is matched only by how the rogue Rogue Squadron took her down (and caught the Errant Venture in the process).
@@VegetaLF7 It was a thing of beauty. Batshit insane beauty.
Could you do a video talking about the TIE Phantom?
I would point out that the celebrations shown in Return of the Jedi were quashed by stormtroopers, and the feeds of the Death Star 2 blowing up were acquired and spread by slicers.
