The guitar is a Dean ML. He won it at a guitar contest as a teenager, sold it later to buy a car, then was given it back by a friend who repainted it to the colours it is today (B&W video doesn't help to see its colours though!). The body style is a mashup of Gibson's "Explorer" and "Flying V" models.
Unfortunately, he is no longer with us. Dimebag Darryl was shot and killed WHILE ON STAGE during a concert by a deranged fan back in like 03 or 04. He was the reason I started playing. Still miss him.
This show was in Russia with around 1 million people that attended. Pantera had a few lil self made videos documenting their touring and partying. The Vulgar video has a part on this Russian show.
Rest in peace dime and Vinny... Pantera army arise..🤟🏻 Mate, Darrel dime bag abbot is literally one of the greatest metal guitarists EVER.. He is arguably the greatest riff creator ever.. Bro this is easily top 5 best guitar solos ever, I remember seeing this for the first time and I was just pissed because no matter how much I practiced I wouldnt be able to do that shit and with a gun to my head never in front of a million people.
Metallica was part of the 3 day concert as well. You should react to Art of Shredding by Pantera. Super hard speed groove metal. I think you'll enjoy it.
I saw them live a year after this and let me tell you .....full on fuck shit up mode. So glad my generation got to live in the 80s and 90s and experience all this bad ass metal greatness. Love it that you appreciate it.
There's a great video of Metallica playing Harvester of Sorrow from this same gig. It's a fantastic performance and you get some incredible shots of the crowd and venue, and by the time they were playing there were twice as many people there. It's unreal. It's a solid recommend as well as any of the other Pantera songs. Those boys did America proud on that day.
I've played in a number of metal bands as a rhythm guitarist and singer. On stage when you are going at 200% it's such an amazing experience, and it's a ton of muscle memory to play smoothly while running around or head banging. I also caught a few black eyes from head banging a little too close to my microphone while on stage lol. Dime is in my top 5 favorite guitar players of all time. His combination of technical prowess with Texas soul is just unmatched. He truly had whatever "it" is 🤘🏻
A pivotal moment in history - heavy metal helped bring down the Soviet Union. It is also a well known FACT that this breakdown is STILL being felt through the universe.
The guitar is a Dean ML. The one in the video went on to be affectionately known as "The Dean From Hell", it was Dimes original workhorse. Getcha Pull Fuckers!!!!!!
This was the end of the Iron Curtain era. To celebrate freedom one of the things was this concert. It was held at Tushino Airfield in Moscow. By noon, 300 000 festival attendees had entered the area. When Pantera played there were 700 000 in the audience. As the festival went on the number grew to a million. Metallica reached 1,6 million. Closing act was AC/DC. Heard different rumours (cannot confirm this) about how many people in the crowd got injuried due to violent clashes between the public, the police and even military. To oversee the event, there were 11 000 soldiers, police officers, hired security guards and riot police. Very tragic whatever the amount was. This is what was said according to the journalist report.
Pantera is one of the few bands that aged like wine and not milk, every album got better from their glam days at the start all the way till their last album re-inventing the steel. I'd suggest you check out uh... sui^%de note part 1 and 2 from their great southern trendkill album.
Also, I believe it's a dean-branded guitar of some kind, never can find a consistent model name for it. A lot of people call it a "Dime-bolt", though, thanks to this guy :P
It's a Dean ML it was referred to as "the dean from hell" the Dime-Bolt was a Washburn model when he was endorsing them, along with the Stealth version which had sharper edges and pointier points. then there was the "Culprit" which is similar to a Gibson explorer shape.
At 54, I was like most Pantera fans from the 91 era... rabid. Best shows of my life till the end. I'm trying to appreciate rap more. I do try and there have been a few I get into. Hard curve for an old guy.. lmao.
@@ZKReacts39 I understand, in south Louisiana we consider 80F to be a nice day. Great reaction by the way, you should definitely do more Pantera. Now I don't know if you've been told or not, but if you react to Cemetery Gates by Pantera, for the love of god, please do not do the official video. There's an entire intro cut from it. Find an album version of the song with no video to get the full experience. Thanks and cheers
@joew5171 lol I will have to agree with him. I live in PNW USA, and it's too hot at the moment. Anything above 70 degrees, and I'm complaining 😅. I love me some mountain weather. By the way I agree with your suggestion of Cemetery Gates.
pausing just before the breakdown took away all tension from the anticipation the end of the solo gave to you.. so you couldn't release it and enjoy the breakdown. Music is made of building tension and releasing it, if you pause right before the biggest release of the music you are priving yourself from enjoying it.
Dimebag didn't learn to play guitar. Guitars learned to be played by him.
Shit. We need to start a whole Chuck Norris kind of joke trend for Dime.
Amen!!!
His guitars had to agree not to sue him for abuse
Dimebag sold his soul….. for his awesome head of hair.

When dime bag walked off stage, he passed by kirk Hammond, of metallica and said "good luck following that boy!" Haha😅

I love watching people stunned into absolute jubilation by this solo. Dimebag brought so much joy to the world through his wizardry.
