This is Groove Metal, invented by Pantera themselves Next song should be Cemetery Gates (studio version) because the video cuts the intro. This song showcases the lead singers vocal abilities much better
Pantera had their own style which was like thrash metal with Southern blues influences. Some referred to it as power groove. Dimebag was one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
RIP Dimes and Vinnie, 2 absolute genius masters of their instruments - got to see them play and hang with them a couple times and they were 2 of the nicest guys with a helluva sense of humour! No matter how much he drank and/or smoked Dimes could still strap on a guitar and play a show perfectly...
I was a bartender, DJ, and bouncer when I was younger, and when wanted to people to leave after closing time, I always said to mic 'if you're not leaving now, I'm gonna be..' and then played 'Fucking Hostile' from Pantera. 😁PS. people always left on time, and found it funny and left a smile on their face.
Its called grove metal because they incorpreated stops and groove you aint ready for. 😂 Comes from hip hop.😂.. Just mixed in with Heart and soul... Thats why its the best in my Metal head HUMBLE opinion. Cool.😂👏👏🤘🇺🇸
Dime (guitar) and brother Vinny (drums) were truly two masters at their craft… Vinny had this way of changing up the tempos, or inserting these little off beats that were just so smooth, and the stuff that Dime did with that guitar was out of this world (the death of Dime was tragic, and a life taken too soon)… If you want to check out something cool from Pantera, check out Cemetery Gates… in addition to Dime and Vinny showing their mastery, you can hear the full range of Phil on vocals.
RIP Dime and Vinnie There is another great watch video covering the Death of Dimebag as tragic as it was!!!!! Dime was one of the most nicest down to earth Rock stars I have ever witnessed and or ran across I met him 2 separate times in Orlando and we shot the shit for about 10 minutes each time like I was the only person around it was quite an honor meeting him first hand!!!
Nothing makes you want to run head first through a brick wall like Pantera! Love them! You can't go wrong with anything from the albums Vulgar Display Of Power, Cowboys From Hell, or Far Beyond Driven. And, yes. Dimebag was a phenomenal guitarist. RIP
You definitely need to also listen to “Cemetery Gates.” Beautiful song by Pantera. When Berlin was behind the Iron Curtain, many Germans smuggled in music instruments, especially guitars. Rammstein band members did music in the underground because of restrictions.
Pantera was the heaviest, hardest metal band in the 90's. Their influence still effects rock and metal bands today. Dimebag Darrell is considered one of the guitar goats. It's funny you mentioned they must have toured with a chiropractor. Phil Anselmo, the lead singer, destroyed his back with his aggressive head banging and stage antics, he needed back surgery. He got the news on tour and didn't want to take time off touring which caused him to get addicted to pain killers and spiraling to heroin which eventually led to an o.d. after a show. He survived but it brought light to his addiction to the band and ended up leading to the break up of the band in the early 2000's. A couple years later Dime was murdered on stage by a deranged fan. drummer Vinnie Paul, dimes brother, passed away a few years ago. The fans never got the reunion we wanted. Last year the surviving members got together and went on tour under the name pantera for a tribute tour to the 2 Brothers. I got to see it a few months ago and it was an amazing show!
I love Pantera but they weren’t the heaviest of the 90’s by a long shot Death metal and Black metal were both at their all time peak in the 90’s and are much heavier then Pantera.
@spesmarine0088 touche, but I was referring to heavy metal, not death metal or black metal. Both of those are a niche genre of metal and only touch a small demographic of the metal community.
A buddy of mine saw their recent reunion show. He took some video for me to watch, and man, as much as no one will ever touch Dimebag, Zakk Wylde did an amazing job filling in for him.
@mikegottschau4224 I saw them last August. It was a damn good show! I closed my eyes and I was back in 96. Zakk does a great job of respecting dime. They pay alot of tribute to the brothers
RIP Abbott Brothers. Extremely High Energy, best way to let it all out and purge any hateful pent up emotions you may have inside. Let it all out. Arguably the best guitar breakdown in a live event.
Metal is therapy man, its alchemy, its facing the darkest of the dark and turning it into gold and a mosh pit is basically "lets beat the Sh*t out of each other" but if someone drops they are usually picked up off the floor. A mosh is like a huge controlled play fight with usually some rhythm to it, its a strange dynamic you are all collectively a sea of bodies to hit and smash but the sea just absorbs it . There are subcultures of this stuff that are less of a play fight and more of just a fight , but the general idea is more like somewhere between a friendly sparring match coupled with complete chaos and elements of dance (there is far more "dance" in a mosh it than you might realise). A mosh is not about damaging each other its about letting off steam on each other in a strangely safe yet violent way
It’s Groove Metal. The Abbott brothers father was a rhythm and blues music manager and the boys recieved a lot of influence through that genre. The boys are Dimebag Darrell Abbott on lead guitar, and Vinnie Paul Abbott on drums. The band is easily the tightest (as in how clean they play) group ever. Because of the brothers playing together from childhood. Neither were taught traditionally. They just jammed as children. Dimebag got so good at guitar as a child he DOMINATED every competition until they just made him a judge instead of a competitor at 13 years old.
I’ll remember Cypress Hill for the rest of my life😂X-Fest 2003 in Pittsburgh…The lead singer asked the crowd if they had any weed, and you see stuff being thrown on stage😂Then he asked for a light and I connected with a lighter flying through the air that ended up hitting him in the head😂😂Then they smoked on stage and went into Hits From The Bong…It was truly epic😌(it was when they did “Rock Superstar.”)
I love when people are turned on to a new style of music and it shatters all preconceived notions. Keep that open mind and willingness to experience new aspects of life and music. This is just the beginning of the journey that is Pantera… 🤘🏼
❤❤❤❤My favorite Band of all time. Texas boys. Dime was the best Metal guitarist of all time for me. You are 100% correct about the Moscow 1991 concert with the 1.6m People
Pantera literally invented their own type of metal called "groove metal"! And Dimebag Darrell Lance Abbott is and was the greatest metal guitarist in music history... Period!
😊16:04 good point. (I saw them in Omaha in 1995). There's a vid up where Phil talks about his ruptured disc in his lower back and the hell he went through from the mid "90s on for years. He ended up using a lot of things to try to deal with the pain(I won't list here). He eventually got surgery, the way he talks, it's almost like specialists and him both knew in the mid '90s what they could do at the time, surgery-wise....sucked, for possible recovery. To hear him talk about it, so true, (I injured my lumbar discs in 2004, still living with it every day since) he's so right, he'd try to explain to those around him, unless they've been through, it's impossible to explain to someone the knife going in your lower back every day. Debilitating. Not talking 'bout self deleting, but like Phil says "it's a s**t existence, you wake up, knife going in your spine, i dont want to be here, I don't want to wake up to this" (I don't have it word for word) He wasn't su****al, just that life is pure hell, all day every day when it's that injured. Ruptured disc, (mine weren't ruptured) and to just go on day after day for years. I don't judge him for the substances he got into, I'm allergic to everything over the counter afyer 19 years of taking thousands of each, I've taken everything prescription for pain too, inversion, acupuncture, weekly chiropractor. To me now I see a brother I can relate to when Phil talks👍 (could be wrong, I think Tom Araya of Slayer needed surgery somewhere in his spine after years of performing)
Pantera channels the Power Groove (their words). Lucky I got to see them a few times. Pantera fans were LEGENDARY. Everyone took care of eachother at these shows. And yes, you gotta check out Cemetary Gates! 🤘🤘
Thank you guys! I knew you'd love it. It was the same show with Metallica and was EPIC!!! Whip lash is no joke when your in the groove. Had it a few times from Headbanging!!!
Actual 'Cowboys from Hell' song was the 1st huge hit. Best & most recognizable opening of any metal song. Pantera is notably groove metal. Dime Bag Darrel is the guitar GOAT. PLEASE 🙏 🙏 🙏 react to ' Walk' live 1998 & I think you'd really enjoy 'Cowboys from Hell' - seems like your type of song.
Pantera is southern metal/thrash 90s metal, the snare and high hat are the same as punk, but with double bass, and the guitarist can at least play solos, where as in punk the guitarist just plays power cords.
I absolutely love Pantera and always have. The CD never left my car stereo for about six months after I bought it. It slams in the car also. If you got a system listen to Pantera or tool on it.
They are a thrash metal band. No one was really doing this kind of music when they first came out. Dimebag's riffs are so powerful, Vinnie's drumming is insane and Phil screams his ass off. It is so sad that Dime was taken from us so tragically! Then his brother Vinnie is now gone as well... RIP St. Dime & St Vin!!!
The drumming by Vinnie is so heavy and amazing in this live performance. All 4 of them literally at the top of their game.😊 (I say that 'cause I saw them in Omaha in winter '95, and that night Phil's voice was shot, felt sorry for him...like laryngitis)
"hardcore punk" is a genre that almost every reactor skips. I'd be struck if you reacted to any bands like The Casualties, Minor Threat, Fear, Sniper 66, The Bad Engrish (from Denver!), Anti-Flag, The Chats, Amyl and The Sniffers. It's a gold mine of crazy lyrics music and fashion.
Bros.. pick one for 3 things in life to do.. BLAST in CAR , BEDROOM , WALKING SONG DOWN THE ISLE.. 1 .. DOMINATION.. 2 METALLICA “ ONE “ 3 .. DU HAST .. 🤟🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm not much on labels (not trying to sound clichéd, it's just that very few bands are 100% one genre) but Pantera is generally considered groove metal. There's so many different genres and not everyone will ever agree completely on what bands fall into which category. Pantera was EPIC live, truly one of a kind. Not sure there'll ever again be a guitarist/drummer duo like Dimebag and his brother Vinnie. I was blessed to have lived on Texas for many years in the 90's and into the early 2000's and got to see them perform close to a dozen times in smaller clubs and larger venues both. Great review!!!
Im 44, ive always listened to heavy stuff but I remember getting in trouble from moms telling me it was all devil worshiping music lol i used to try reading her the lyrics and she would find a way to make it bad :D now she likes to try and figure things out, only took her 70 years lol you all are ahead of the game! (ive always loved Tech 9 though and i have expanded in all genres, 21 years in the army will do that to ya) lol
True story. My grandpa was one of the absolute first to smuggle in and sell blue jeans into Sovjet. He was a business man from Sweden, private travel industry. For those of you who are Swedes he's written 2 books about his life. "Ebbes godbitar : människor jag mött" First book.
There’s a rumor that Jesus’ real dad was a Roman soldier with the surname Pantera. This could have something to do with the band name, or they could just be referring to panthers the cat 🐆
Ohhhhh PANTERA!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Yes it has punk influence. It's called groove metal. Phil is a super amazing vocalist. Dime was an amazing guitar god. Pantera is legend
Pantera created there own Genre, style and sound which is unique to them. No category for this its just 4 geniuses brought together right time, right guys, right place. Unequalled to this day.
They added every kind of metal music and made it their own genre. Definitely not punk and not death. First band to spit bars at one of the best speed metal guitarist of all time . Throw rapping into metal making it hard ass metal but not death.
That drop after the solo is the heaviest in rock/metal. Period. Another band that hung out under the "groove metal" banner was Rob Zombie's early band, White Zombie. Check out songs like Thunderkiss '65, More Human Than Human, Super-charger Heaven, or Electric Head Pt.2 from the Astro-Creep album.
I listen to a lot of genres but for whatever reason I’ve never listened to Pantera with intention, maybe it played somewhere. But man, first thing I was thinking and you guys mentioned it… the ENERGY! Fuck. Love it, love the crowd, thanks for the reaction!
Im a grown ass man and I cry when I think about how dimebag was buried with his hero’s (Eddie Van Halen’s) famous yellow and black guitar. Rip DDA and EVH
when they start this set phil says "This is a lesson in hardcore, from the lonestar state". Arguably the heaviest riff ever written, by one of the best guitar players to ever live "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott RIP
Hey, great reaction to a great song. I'll just say that if that punk band wanted their music heard literally all across the globe back then, they should have sent it to John Peel, c/o BBC World Service. If you're not familiar, Peel was one of the greatest radio DJs the world has ever known. He had been around since the pirate radio stations in the UK in the late 60s, then joined the BBC until his death in the 90s. He never wallowed in nostalgia for the music of his youth, but always looked for the unknown artists in every corner of the globe, from the Mice Men of Africa to... everywhere. This included a sweep through the Soviet countries gathering up music from basement bands who would have been arrested if they'd been discovered by the police.
My very first concert was Pantera. I got to see "Dime bag" Dave, lead guitar, before he passed away. I didn't realize how cool he was until years after that. RIP.
I used to see Pantera playing at a local club before they got signed. The energy they put out live I've never experienced since. RIP Dime Bag
Big Factz bro.
I loved that BP was feeling Dimebags guitar sesh but so wished he had of known the reality. RIP DBD 🫶🤘✌️🔥💯
Had to be an awesome experience
Love Dime, but y’all forgetting Vinnie. Those brothers matched intensity
I envy you soooo much!!!
@@michaelrandall2490I named my Sons Darrell Lance and Vinnie Paul
This is Groove Metal, invented by Pantera themselves
Next song should be Cemetery Gates (studio version) because the video cuts the intro. This song showcases the lead singers vocal abilities much better
I second “Cemetery Gates”, it’s most excellent!!!! 🔥
Such a bummer that everyone reacts to the videoclip version, that intro is pure gold. 🤘
Did they really invent it though? They might claim it, but it's hard to deny how much this sounds like Motorhead - Ace of Spades from 1980.
Yes let's have it lads
Or they could do the complete opposite of this song which would be "Hollow"
Pantera had their own style which was like thrash metal with Southern blues influences. Some referred to it as power groove. Dimebag was one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Dime is one of the best guitarist of all time. GOAT
@@stevematthews4300 i mean outside of jimi and Halen (to me they're in a league of their own) he literally is lol
“Walk” by Pantera is a great song, and I know you guys will love the message. It’s worth a listen, you won’t be let down.
FACTS 🤘🔥

PanterA was and still is one of the best live bands ever.
Dimebag is the greatest guitarist to ever be. Rip to the Brothers.

Dimebag in all his glory!

Oh SHEEEESh, they're doing Pantera! Finally something smooth and calming to chill us all out a bit. *sigh*
lol! This metal head here thinks it is pretty fun seeing BP and DON experiencing the genre I know as well as they know hip hop... :)
Too funny lol love it🤘🔥
Its called grove metal because they incorpreated stops and groove you aint ready for. 😂 Comes from hip hop.😂.. Just mixed in with Heart and soul... Thats why its the best in my Metal head HUMBLE opinion.
Cool.😂👏👏🤘🇺🇸
Dimebag is the undisputed GOAT of heavy metal guitarists. He was literally buried with Eddie Van Halens guitar.
Rip♥️✌🏽
His last words were, “Van Halen!” 😭

Punk and rock and metal bled together in the 90s. Thus: PanterA. The best of all worlds. It's a 3 flavor ice cream cone. RIP Dime and Vinnie
Pantera got some bangers, Cowboys from hell, 5 minutes alone, A new level, Walk, Mouth of war, Cemetery gates, f**king hostile and more.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!!!!!!
5 minutes alone is a real good mellow tune from them. #leaveitinthepit !!! Great reaction. #ripdime #ripvinny
This guy is fantastic....this guy was godlike🤘......RIP.😢
Pantera created there own Genre, style and sound which is unique to them. No category for this its just 4 geniuses brought together right time, right guys, right place. Unequalled to this day.
This was Pantera introducing themselves to the world back in1991.
I will watch all the Pantera reactions yall do, my favorite band ever.
Floods is my favorite song of theirs but the popular ones are great too
Phil, the singer, destroyed his back doing all this.
This kind of metal is PANTERA METAL. There's no other classification. They are UNIQUE
Boys, if you want something a bit more your speed. Check out Pantera's "Cemetary gates", I think you'll love it!
57 year old - Pantera has no Christian but they always have a message - My fav is this love
They added every kind of metal music and made it their own genre. Definitely not punk and not death. First band to spit bars at one of the best speed metal guitarist of all time . Throw rapping into metal making it hard ass metal but not death.
Your commentary at the end is spot on. Phil (the singer) had spine surgery after 20 years of that kind of touring.
That drop after the solo is the heaviest in rock/metal. Period. Another band that hung out under the "groove metal" banner was Rob Zombie's early band, White Zombie. Check out songs like Thunderkiss '65, More Human Than Human, Super-charger Heaven, or Electric Head Pt.2 from the Astro-Creep album.
astrocreep is amazing. terry date has produced some of the best albums
I listen to a lot of genres but for whatever reason I’ve never listened to Pantera with intention, maybe it played somewhere. But man, first thing I was thinking and you guys mentioned it… the ENERGY! Fuck. Love it, love the crowd, thanks for the reaction!
they metal as fuck
Groove Metal Gods PANTERA!
I actually listen to Pantera as I am going to sleep. It just mellows me right out. RIP Dime and Vinnie💔
You should do 'Destroy Everything' by Hatebreed because that's what BP thinks rock is! (and it's awesome).
Im a grown ass man and I cry when I think about how dimebag was buried with his hero’s (Eddie Van Halen’s) famous yellow and black guitar. Rip DDA and EVH
MORE PANTERA SONGS!! (Walk, Cowboys from hell, Cementary Gates, and the list goes on and on.. Rock the guts!
when they start this set phil says "This is a lesson in hardcore, from the lonestar state".
RIP.
