In Denmark we “boil it in our bed”...yes actually. Bring it to the boil/simmer. Wrap the pot in newspapers and a blanket and put it to bed with the duvet covering it. Forget about it for a couple of hours. Perfectly cooked and no chance of burning. It’s an old farmers trick from way back when, when the mattresses were stuffed with hay which kept people...and porridge warm 😃😃😃
Omg, people laugh at me when I tell them how I make "Milchreis". I'm German and I grew up making it like that. Now living in France people eat it cold and I fight a lonely battle trying to convince my friends to eat it hot.

@VivaColoratura It's remarkable how so many different people have the same way of doing things. My native american side of my family practices this as well and have for a long long time.
If you use sugar/jaggery, cardomom powder, saffron(optional) and some nuts like pistachios, cashews, raisins etc instead then it would be called Kheer which is an Indian desert.

I made this today and it was delicious. I had some hot, some room temperature and some right from the fridge. I felt is was the least I could do for you. :) It was delicious all 3 ways but my favorite is room temperature with cold whipped cream on top. At first it was very loose and wet, which I am not used to, but after it was in the fridge it was what I have had in restaurants, only better. Thank you for yet another winner.
What i love about planet earth. We all share the same staples. In the middle east we have a similar dish too. But i got my rice pudding from my irish mum yum yum. And definitely always served warm with a nice dollop of jam amd a cup of cha. Happiness.
Cold 🥶 rice pudding for sure But I feel like when it’s hot outside u can eat it cold and when it’s cold outside you can eat it hot 🥵 but I prefer cold I didn’t know people eat it hot
We make it with coconut milk (Santan) and coconut cream. Thus we omit the butter. And a little more dry. My fave is to eat with kaya (coconut egg jam). I will certainly make your version this weekend. Thanks for sharing. Malaysia
Definitely a hot pudding girl, with either blackcurrant or tart cherry jam. I normally bake it in the oven so it gets a brown top but that looks even better. Next weekend is going to be cool here so your rice pudding recipe is suddenly on the menu.
Never had hot rice pudding, except eating whatever is left in the pan:) But you certainly inspired me to have hot rice pudding on cold winter days and making this a tradition. Now I'm waiting for winter (something I never thought I'd say!). George is sweeter than rice pudding, especially when he suddenly wakes up:)) His memories of rice pudding will include the 'battle' between hot and cold rice-puddingers, I guess:)) (I hope "puddinger" is not an offensive word, I just made it up. If it is so, I apologize... )
I was born in the UK and mum(war bride) and dad(Canadian) always made rice pudding and we always had it hot with a sweet topping, like jam. We moved to Canada and my mum, now 90, still makes it! Such warm memories and great comfort food. If there are leftovers in the fridge I will eat it cold but for me, nothing like hot!
Thank you Chef for this delicious and comforting recipe....it was complimented and somehow it tastes like a sweet dish here in India called "kheer" ......it is a traditional sweet dish people prepare here on special occasions and people here really love it....and also we eat it both cold and hot with some green cardamom and lots of dry fruits in it...... again thank you for the recipe 🙂🙂✌️✌️

Well done, you. Thank you for sharing, Mara.
What i love about planet earth. We all share the same staples.
In the middle east we have a similar dish too. But i got my rice pudding from my irish mum yum yum. And definitely always served warm with a nice dollop of jam amd a cup of cha. Happiness.
Thank you for sharing.
I don't care whether it's hot or cold, just so long as it DOESN'T have any raisins in it😖.
😂😂😂
Ugh! No Raisins...
I completely agree with U!
Raisins take over the flavour completely. Plus they look like suspended flies, lol.
Cold 🥶 rice pudding for sure But I feel like when it’s hot outside u can eat it cold and when it’s cold outside you can eat it hot 🥵 but I prefer cold I didn’t know people eat it hot
Kerrygold butter? I didn’t even notice it in the shop! I’m so using it next time!
It really is the best Butter in the world 😍 🧈
It's my favorite.
I agree!
😍😍😍
We loved our rice pudding growing up in Dublin, very comforting in winter oh the memories of comfort food.
We make it with coconut milk (Santan) and coconut cream. Thus we omit the butter. And a little more dry. My fave is to eat with kaya (coconut egg jam). I will certainly make your version this weekend. Thanks for sharing. Malaysia
That is an interesting variant, Wanyeng. Thank you for sharing.
Definitely a hot pudding girl, with either blackcurrant or tart cherry jam. I normally bake it in the oven so it gets a brown top but that looks even better. Next weekend is going to be cool here so your rice pudding recipe is suddenly on the menu.
very excited for this! your brownies are my everything love them so much! the best brownies!
Thanks a million, Laila!
If it is so, I apologize... )
Thank you for the kind words. You can give this a go. Here's the complete recipe www.biggerbolderbaking.com/red-velvet-oreo/

I never thought to try jam on this, but I'm game.
Go for it!
Love it❤
I’m English and eat rice pudding cold, unless I want it hot 😂😂😂😂
Thank you Chef for this delicious and comforting recipe....it was complimented and somehow it tastes like a sweet dish here in India called "kheer" ......it is a traditional sweet dish people prepare here on special occasions and people here really love it....and also we eat it both cold and hot with some green cardamom and lots of dry fruits in it...... again thank you for the recipe 🙂🙂✌️✌️
Thank you for sharing. Yes, rice pudding have as many variations as there are countries in the world. And it's fun to experiment with them all.
OMG! My husband and I are huge rice pudding fans, and have been married for 34 years. In all that time I've been on the search for the right recipe AND THIS IS IT! We live on a farm, and the guys are baling hay today so I'm in charge of cooking for them all. I made a huge pot of this, and simmered it like you said and it is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! Thank you so much for posting this video and the recipe!!!!
Wonderful! Thrilled to hear you enjoyed !
Like you, I only recently learned people eat rice pudding cold when my boyfriend brought some from Trader Joe’s and I tried to microwave it. I was like, “It’s rice pudding, duh!”
Love rice pudding with home made fresh stewed fruit (Strawberries, Rhubarb, Raspberries, Pineapple, Mangoes, Cherries or BlackBerry). Its hot for me though and served with a shortbread biscuit. Yummy. Mmmmm👌🏽
