Why do Sikhs wear Turbans? Long Hair? Shooting Oak Creek Wisconsin USA Sikhism Balpreet Kaur

- Following the recent shootings at Oak Creek Sikh Temple Wisconsin USA, we were asked to explain why Sikhs have a distinct visual appearance of uncut hair and a turban. Why do some even carry swords and wear iron bracelets. Why do Sikhs want to stand out from the crowd? Is it ritualism? Are they dividing off from others? Does a turban and beard get you into 'heaven'? This video gives five complementary perpectives into why Sikhs wear Turbans and wish to stand out from the crowd.
(1) Crown
(2) Police uniform
(3) Reminder
(4) Spiritual
(5) Obeying

Following the shootings in Wisconsin, USA, many people have sought to learnt more about Sikhism. Our channel has had many requests to make a video about Why Sikhs wear turbans and this is our humble effort.

Vaheguru Simran played at beginning is available for free download from www.thekdp.com (Jam 2 - track 6), but Jagdeep Kaur (www.qi-rattan.com)
sikhism reminds me of the type of creed that superman would have
This is so underrated comment
I love learning about Sikhism. Everything about Sikh is just breath-taking. I recently watched a BBC Documentary about the Turban and how the British Indians fought for their right and proving why their Turban isn't just a clothing but part of their body, part of who they are. Man, I cant explain how much 39 mins of that video touched me, My view on the Sikh community grew more, I saw them more than just a peaceful relegion but a strong, independent, unique , and welcoming group. The passion they have for their community is unexplainable. I'm so happy I learned so much more about this amazing relegion.
Americano welcome to the beauty of spirituality 🙏
Americano visit rajacademy.com you will learn more
Americano are you italian?
Thank you for watching it bro. Stay woke
Yes, you are so right.
thanks for watching! God bless you too :)
Sikhism is a beautiful religion and I am proud to be a Sikh. Thank you for enlightening people that are truly interested in our religion.
Mandip Kaur sorry to say but Sikhism is born of Hinduism. Even Sikh names resemble Hindu names. Sikhism has stolen 80% ideas of Hindus.
Yash5Singh the point is that it has done a lot of plagiarism. It says unrealistic things like 1 Sikh equals Sava lakh
Brother firstly, I don't think hindu names resemble sikh names as Sikh names are unisex and as far as I know hindu names are based on the gender(which is not wrong but different).
Secondly, Basic principles of both religions are poles apart. Hinduism believes in different of gods (for example:- Ram ji, hanuman ji, vishnu ji). However Sikhi believes that there is only ONE god.
There are various more things that proves that Sikhi is not a part of hinduism. Although the founder of Sikhi (Guru Nanak Dev Ji) was born into a hindu family. that does not mean that Sikhi is born from Hinduism. Peace Brother
See do not compare just act on your Hindu / sikh shastras
DR SCHNEIDER it’s true thats because 600 Sikhs beat the army of 10,000+ Mughals
Sikhism is beautiful.

Sikhs sound like awesome people. Im subscribed.
Waheguru bless you
Hope you’re doing well
Though I'm not related to this man, he has done so much good for the community he doesn't even know till this this I'm learning from him.. RIP JUGRAJ
Sikhism is a Beautiful religion... I've learnt a lot from your Videos...
i am a shiki and i am ashamed of myself not because i was born Sikh but i was never taught by anyone how beautiful shiki is... My sister lately have been pushing me to learn and understand what shiki is all about... Its just beautiful.. someday when i understand everything that's where i will say i am proud Kaur
MsWade123. I can help, or atleast share my knowledge with you. If you would like to know more about that what you do not yet know about Sikhi, then do not hesitate to get in touch with me, I would be more than happy to discuss it with you.
It's because our parents and the British raj
Shanni Shaani most fake religion is your hinduism they are thankless people and even there so called gods do not teach equality among all human being.
jaskirat singh What makes you think that guy is a Hindu?
And when did God not teach equality?
@@jaskiratsingh7794 bro i understand why ur so angry but a sikh should respect all religions
As a western Sikh, I really enjoyed watching this and I learnt so much that I have forgotten over the years. Thank you - keep up the amazing videos!
I dont find Sikhi tough.. Its pretty easy... Also its the most disciplined form of life... I love it...
Shanni Shaani most fake religion is hinduism they are thankless people and even there so called gods do not teach equality among all human being.
Shanni Shaani so now you are covering yourself under the label of Buddhist.
Shanni Shaani I didn't find any Buddhist talking shit about someone's religion rather than any hindu who are always jealous from us from very beginning.
Shanni Shaani why don't you prove it here
jaskirat singh bro please don’t be bitter , follow the Gurbani and everything will be in place !
True Sikhs do not stand for injustice. I have always been thankful for this. Its beautiful. It is very real. We all should follow this. I am very honored to have Sikh neighbors. I live in a somewhat small town in NC. This family has given us true kindness. True welcoming as a community. We have been neighbors for years now. Its wonderful having such positivity in our town. It is basic and simple but it is precious. I am thankful for my neighbors. All of them. There are still good people in this world. Much respect and thank you for your videos.
U answered a lot of my questions regarding the same.. Proud being a sikh
our pleasure..thanks for watching.
Sat = pronounced Sut (like hut)
Sri = (like Pre in "pretty")
Akaal = a (like a in award) and kaal (the 'aa' sounds the a in Pasta when Americans say it, not when the british say it- ie more posh)
Thanks for making this. I've always been curious
Thankhz for sharing... Wholeness n Love ((-;
Thank you so much for sharing this. I now have a better understanding of things. This world is so up in arms with the terrorist that people are to quick to judge. I pray for peace always.
:)
And the extremely bitter irony that Sihki get violence aimed at them by ignorant people is not lost on me.
Thank you for sharing this post.
Thank you so much Im muslim but I want to learn and embrace other people's beliefs and culture! Subscribed :)

This is an amazing presentation, and yours is a beautiful religion. As an American, I am shocked and saddened at the shootings that happened at your temple. This was a great learning experience, thank you for sharing your faith with us, and it is a great trait to be identified and to stand out to be a resource for other people.
Opening my eyes in a situation of unclearity. Increadible videos btw, excellent work!
This is so good. Thankyou
Thanks for the way you explain 🙏
Thankyou for explaining in detail the Sikh religion. I have learnt more by watching this on utube. All the Sikhs in the world, may God bless you for all the great works, feed, share and love you show to all people of different religions. No person or people misses out on your generosity. The Sikh movement walk the talk all over the world. The guru Nanak teachings is an example of Gods love towards all his people.
I have learnt so much from watching your videos i now know how to answer peoples questions in school and teach them about Sikhism, Vaheguru

Please translate this vedio in other languages, like Punjabi,Hindi etc. Most of people's of even Punjab have forgot the practical meaning of ideas of guru g.. THANKS.
Is there a vid on the actual words that Guru Going Singh Ji said about wearing turban and cutting hair. Thank you again for all these great vids. U have helped me and MANY MANY others with what you have done here. THANK YOU!

Shanni Shaani mate do not call something fakenes if you lack from education. I guess you have not studied religion.

Always had a lot of respect for the Sikhs , great people . Blessings to you all
Thanks for putting these videos out.. especially at this time in the US. I work for a Sikh who is a great manager and now I have new found respect for the history and belief. Now I need to find out how to pronounce "Sat Sri Akaal".
Wow such a beautiful practice..
You have a very beautiful religion! Thanks for making this video for us to gain a perspective and not just have us see you as "the people with turbans" because you all are much more than that!
Thanks for that. I work with some Sikhs and I've always wanted to be able to show my respect and appreciation to them. Sat Sri Akaal, my brother.
I want to learn as much as possible.
@Manpreet singh I'd be so grateful 🙏
They're some of the most kind and noble people I've ever come in contact with.

Great videos, I've been very impressed by the faith, what it stands for and how it does not claim superiority over other faiths!
Thank you brother
Excellent
I am not Sikh but I follow sikhi with all my heart🙏..
I am not Sikh also. But i love what there religion stands for. I have indian Sikh friends and i am so lucky to have them in my life.
I even went to the temple and was so blessed when i left.
I wasn't born as a sikh but I am following sikhi now. I completely agree with their religious text and admire what sikhs stand for. I listen to sikh prayers and I will learn to read it myself.
I believe in one creator (the timeless) and accept 10 gurus and Guru granth sahib ji as my guru.
Although I still don't have the courage to keep hair and keep 5K's but I believe in sikhi. I hope Guru will bless me and I will become complete sikh after keeping hair and after amrit ceremony.
Beautiful words beautiful lines wht guru ji says
Thank u very much 😊
Watch our video on "What type of Sikh are you?" and "What is a Sikh?". There is no formal conversion process, if you start to live as a Sikh, follow it and put Guru's word above all others, then you are a Sikh. To progress towards Khalsa, you would have to wear a turban and not cut any of your hair. Even if you are bald, its no problem, in fact no one will ever know if you are bald under the turban ;) I would suggest starting by learning more, especially our Japji Sahib English Katha playlist
Waheguru g ka khalsa, waheguru g ki fateh veer g. Please suggest kro k , keesan da saskaar kive krna chahida? We are based in NZ .
kirpa is by you brother, Ho Kurbane Jaao Meharvaana Laen Jo Tera Naao..
As an Indian, I should have known all about this but i didn't knew anything. I am ashamed about not knowing about our beloved sardars this much. If i did knew all this i would be practicing sikhi but its never too late.
I want to be like my gurus. Thanks for uploading this video.
Love u paaji
Amazing job brother. I am very inspired by your videos. You should come to Canada sometime and speak to the youth.

Thank you
And God bless you sir! :)
WaheGuru ji ka Khalsa WaheGuru ji ki Fateh love u sir u are doing amazing job may WaheGuru always keep u in chardikal God bless u sir
Jagraj veerji, if someone does exactly what you do except they cut their hair, and lets suppose that you will be liberated, does this mean they won't be liberated because the only difference was that you have long hair and they have short?
If u belong to Sikhism then afcourse you have to do what your guru is saying. But if you are not then it's not mandatory for you to grow hairs. Sikhs are those who obey what guru is saying ,doing what guru say.🙂
Thank you for explaining ❤️🇨🇦
Can I get the link for downloading the background shabad "Waheguru-waheguru" ???
+Gursharan Singh Vaheguru Simran in the Intro and Outro is how Sikhs chant Gods name. Its performed by Jagdeep Kaur of www.qi-rattan.com. You can download it for free from www.thekdp.com (Jam 2, track 6 = Waheguru Simran).
Thank you paa ji for clearing alot of gray areas for me. WJKK WJKF
Thanks, I know what you mean. Sikhi enraptured me 13 years ago
I have a question about the spring festival in 1699 when volunteers were asked for. Was it common to behead people for sacrifices at that time for the festival? Were those who volunteered actually expecting to get beheaded or could they have realized it was just a test?
@@-whackd if they were so full of divine love then why did they ask for volunteers for sacrifice. That doesn’t sound so divine to me.
watch our videos, "What is a Sikh" in the playlist "One Day Course" and "what type of Sikh are you?" from the playlist 'basics of sikhi'
Waheguru
Why is it that sometimes only one child in the family wear a turban and some do not? Is it a choice or are them sort of traditional rules to follow? Thanks in advance
Good question Bob, my personal view is that each person is on their own spiritual path and some will be further along that personal journey than others.
thanks ji, vjkkvjkf
its from "thekdp" website, Vaheguru Simran by Jagdeep Kaur (Jam 2 - track 6)
We should learn the value of religion from sikh brother....I love the sikh culture...maazhab ke liya sikh apni jan bicha deta hai lakein dadi(mustache) aur pagdi nahi uthatre...hats of brothers

Veer g sab to pehla waheruguru ji ka khalsa waheruguru g k fathe
Veer g I belong to a Sikh family and tries my best to live a life as instructed by guru ji but I have a question in my mind, we are often told about doing nitnem daily unfortunately I have never been able to bt somehow sometimes I manage to do japji sahib path bt the ques is what is the reason behind chanting those prayers daily? I know it is about the meaning of the prayer bt often we see that the people just chant the path without knowing it's meaning. I just wanted to know ur point of view on this
Seek for a soon reply
Once again waheruguru g ka khalsa waheruguru g k fathe!
satsrriakaal, is kada really a symbolic handcuff??thank you
Aswar Hsdvhdui yes, as it stops us from doing bad things and reminds us of our commitment to the guru to always follow the path of righteousness and justice and it also have a scientific basis behind it as the pure iron kada also acts as a source of iron for our body..
Wow how true
Greetings. Did the man really eat the body as his guru asked him or is this just figuratively? Peace.
Hanji, indeed...that point is actually made clear in the video "Can we escape re-incarnation?"
I have that poppy on a khanda, I wish I recorded the moment the guy gave it to me, the West and Sikhism go hand in hand, as does everything else. We are all one.
a question for you sir
who is a sikh who wear turbin or just a person who beleive in guru wani..
is that compalsory to wear turbin...please answer
I'm Muslim but I always wanted to know more about Sikhism since they resemble us Muslims so much in terms of looks and principles. Thanks for the informative video.
thanks, the normal greeting is "Sat Sri Akaal" (True is the Great Immortal God) but also the Khalsa greet each other with "Vaheguru ji ka Khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki Fateh" (The Khalsa belongs to Vaheguru, All successes and Victories belong to vaheguru),
I do not mean this with any Disrespect but I am from the UK and I see a Lot of Asian Men in Turbans & an High Percentage seem to have Congestion Issues (Trouble Clearing their Throats & Chest!), Is there any Particular Reason that I can not think of?.
From personal experience I'm glad you do stand out because when there was an incident and I was outnumbered it was a Sikh who saved my life. Literally. So thank you. And yes it was a 7/11 parking lot late at night. Just the right place for him to be for me to still be here. He's still here too. I think he owns one or two stores now. (or at least is managing them) So take some comedic stereotyping from my experience but don't for a second think these people don't live up to their own standards. From what I've seen they're about the only ones who do. To date I've not met an Indian or Sikh that I didn't like. (Punjab is a very beautiful area but your curries are a bit bland. Sorry but I like heat. Not from the sun, just in the food they still taste great however. )
