Kashi Sinha Sikhism does not force people to keep hair. Its your own choice whether you want to keep this unique identity or not. People are free to enter as well as free to leave sikhi. Sikhs who keep long hair, wear turban and keep beards do this bcoz of choice not force. Besides, google about khalsa aid and see their work towards humanity. We sikhs believe in humanity. Gurudwara langar is another example. I am amazed at your comment. So you love the fact that married woman in your religion are forced to keep fasts for their husbands during karwa chauth? Don't get me wrong, but in my personal experience, many of female hindu friends who were comparatively "westernised" were forced to keep karwa chauth by their in laws. Is this correct?

I used to go barbers about 2-3 times a month. Now it’s been nearly 4 months and I haven’t cut my hair or trimmed my beard. Slowly but surely I’m getting closer to sikhi
@@a241a lol, u r generalising now. If cutting beard is in fashion, doesn't me a keeping it is being ugly. It depends on persons nature , his inner thing.
In conclusion, hair in its natural state is viewed as bringing one in closer alignment with the One. Yet it is important to stay clean and well groomed.
There are very less people who really have an in depth understanding of such things, Most of us just identify ourselves with our egos like physical look, caste, race etc. Great wisdom by a true GurSikh, This wisdom is only possible with a neutral and open mind and with Simran, Dhyan .. Satnam Waheguru
Thank you for explaining! I’m a Muslim and found a beautiful similarity in the explanation about complete/ holistic submission to God and keeping a mindful focus on our minds as we go about our practical lives.
The way I see this is that it can go both ways. It depends on how you view yourself with hair and beard. Buddhist monks for example see the hair and beard as a point self and pride and link to the material world, so they would shave.
Yes but that’s what those monks think, if we look all of prophets and religious leaders and god’s had long hair, They didn’t shave or cut their hair in any sort of way.
What about nails? Unlike hair, they are dead and serve no spiritual or practical purpose. Nails are actually a detriment because if left uncut they can cause infection. Hair on the other hand is actually alive, and the point of the kang is to remove to dead hair.
yes but left uncut hair can catch things such as lice, fleas, etc.... also i am confused, if Sikhism teaches the truth that there is no "you" and that good/bad are the same side of the same coin what is a "real sikh" and a "fake sikh" or even a "sikh"? the video says the hair is for let whatever Waheguru wants let it happen - nails would apply for same
it is very hard for people here in America and western countries to follow 5ks ... it actually becomes issue because people who call themselves Sikh are sometimes not able to be of service to their families due to lack of job opportunities, etc... i feel you would have more young followers if they didn't feel ashamed and like they aren't "true" Sikhs due to 5ks.. if cutting hair was welcome you would have many young punjabis following SGGS but the 5k prevents them due to shame and feelings of inferiority for having cut hair
Guru nanak rejected hindu traditions & rituals....its a shame for hindus (and a slap to hinduism) that even though Guru nanak was born to hindu parents, he never accepted hinduism, he rejected it & started Sikhi...
@@ssingh8166 it's not a slap to Hinduism, it's just evolution of Hinduism, Sikhism does address some of the bad cultural practices, like casteism, and untouchability, of Hinduism followers, but then those bad things were never a part of the vedas, or Sanatan dharma, they were latter additions through others like Manu smriti. Guru Baba Nanak dev ji, helped clearing those cultural ills. Hindus consider Baba Nanak dev ji and Sikhism as a path to God, and respect Sikhism as one of their own.
Spot on , I'm clean shaven but this explanation is writings on the cards. It has no other significance but to submit yourself fully by saying whatever looks you have given I must stay within it. Veerji awesome I always thought the same , kesh are only good if you are attached internally otherwise it's just hypocrisy. Please forgive me if I am wrong. May God bless us all.
@@rudrahx4496 I think it all depends on what your motivation is to change your appearance a certain way. In my case it is to keep my marriage without drama. My act of cutting my hair is selfless, it were entirely up to me I would let it all grow, but if I did that my marriage would fall apart and my wife would be unhappy and my two young children would be traumatized by that (my parents divorced when I was young). Therefore I cut my hair to keep the peace in my family. If keeping kesh is in my future then Waheguru will make a path where no one is hurt by it.
Good way of convincing..it must start at childhood stage..by the time we grow up, we accept it internally as well and don't feel awkward about these bodily features...that's the way it has happened to me and my family.. despite things being highly contrary to this in nearest surroundings.
the sadhus , rishis , swamis verses in your gurbani did all as they are. simran with love. today so much focus on hair . people cut nails. hair cut as per wish

I think what Bhaji is trying to say is that we are of no value (in a good sense) so to keep kesh or not isn't all that important, what matters is how we perceive our selves. If you keep the five k's but still hold on to self worth or that "i" exist then your doing yourself no benefit in that your naam is just a empty ritual.
Thank you Your explanation defending Sikh daram. If you can able to understand the real important of long hair on head and beard just make one vedio. And explain the importance of wearing turbun on head. Thank you
Everyone seems to have his or her opinion... Which is always fine.... Don't get me wrong.... Read Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji first, understand gurus Bani, then follow it to the word.. Just by saying it's right or wrong, will not have any effect on anything... No one seems to want to understand our Gurus Bani, but everyone seems to be hurried to say if it's right or wrong....
Better tie jhuda with hairband or thread so that in case of issue or fight , ur hairs r strongly tied , unfortunately , sikhs don't understand that and keep crying
Hair bands didn't exist in that age - the turban is old technology. It's not obsolete tho. A real Singh protects his head and avoids strikes but inflicts them. Therefore keeping his honour and turban in tact. Warfare is a different subject of course it will come off but there are also elephants horses and arrows to contend with.
The bhunga is thick cloth and contains the hair so is better technology than a thread. Some Sikhs find hair a hindrance in fights because they are not trained. The guru gave us arms to fight with as opposed to bare fist as it is cleaner and avoids risk of the hair becoming a detriment. He understood unarmed fighting was scrappy and hair may be a hindrance. In times of guerilla warfare when Sikhs were heavily out numbered. Arms helped allot. Again it all comes down to the hair being a mark of a warrior.
Also it's not just the fact that hair can become a detriment when lose but it can also he used like the jhuda to manipulate the head. It all comes down to protecting the head and winning the fight. It's a warrior race that has calmed down in times of peace waeguru
I was looking for an answer of why do we grow hair or importance in terms of facts stated in gurbani.... not who is relevant one who grows or one who doesnt....
|ਕਬੀਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਇਕ ਸਿਓ ਕੀਏ ਆਨ ਦੁਬਿਦਾ ਜਾਏ| |ਭਾਵੇਂ ਲਾਂਬੇ ਕੇਸ ਕਰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਘਰਰਿ ਮੁਡਾਇ| In ang 1365 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, Kabir Ji states these lines: Kabeer, when you are in love with the one Lord, duality and alienation depart. You may have long hair, or you may shave your head bald. If Guru sahib truly wanted us to keep our hair as a rule I dont feel they would've left this contradicting line which obviously states that it does not matter in guru granth sahib ji, they wouldve removed it so it won't cause ਸ਼ੰਕਾਂ
You can do beacause atma matters not the body because body will be again soil after death but atma will remain amar and will emerge back into the lord if uh got salvation.
An average Sikh is a ‘sadhu’ without ‘saadhna’. The whole system is upside down. We create sadhus first and then expect them to do saadhna. Ideally, it should be the other way around. One does ‘saadhna’, ‘tap’, meditate, goes inwards, connects with that ‘oneness’ and in the process gets rid off his/her ego. And once the ego is gone, how one looks, complements from others, importance and attention from others, all these things becomes insignificant. The question of cutting or not cutting hair, tying daarhi etc… becomes irrelevant. The sikh community is in a sad state, we are giving our children sadhu’s roop on a plate. We forcefully tell them not to cut their hair, we threaten them that if they did, the ‘babbaji’ is gonna be angry and you will have to pay for it when you die; or blackmail them with the qurbaniya stories of gurus. The child has done no tap/saadhna/meditation whatsoever, he has no realisation of the god other than the baba ji sitting somewhere in the skies keeping a watch on him if he cuts his hair, his ego hasn’t vanished yet and then these kind of questions arises in his mind. I personally feel that the 10th guru missed the trick by making kesh mandatory, anything we do as a mandatory act or a rule has no significance whatsoever and sooner or later it loses its value. May be it worked 300 years ago, but it has no significance in todays time. The point you made that one cuts his hair because he wants to look good or want complements, are you implying that long hair or beard makes one look ugly? The explanation that sikhs don’t cut hair because one shouldn’t focus on physical appearance doesn’t sound quite right when you consider that the 10th guru clearly instructed and made it mandatory for sikhs to wear a turban so that they ‘look in a certain way’. He gave his followers a ‘physical identity’. It’s a harsh truth - ‘Look’ has a very important place in Sikhism; one needs an unbiased mind, free from the baggage of ‘qurbaniyan’, to see that. And when there is a physical identity, there is ego. Sikhs often say that their turban is their pride, pride is nothing but food for ego. The 10th guru made it mandatory to wear a turban, didn’t he focus on physical appearance or ‘the body’ or how he wants his believers to look in a certain way? Isn’t that contrary to the whole concept of how I look should not matter? Cutting hair to look good or to gain complements and wearing a turban as a uniform, both are fundamentally same, as in both cases, one is focussing on the physical appearance. Looking good is not always the reason why some sikhs cut their hair. I know many sikhs who just can’t understand the concept of wrapping their head with such a huge piece of cloth all day long. I live in the scorching heat of Rajasthan, when I remove my turban after having it on for 12-14 hours in 45 C of heat, my hair is drenched in sweat. How is that even intelligent? Wrapping your head in a 5-meter-long and half a meter-wide cloth for all day has no practical significance.
@@Bluelu69 I agree. But the things will change, I can already see the young generation asking questions. The world is more interconnected now, more people are travelling to new places, meeting new people, learning about other faiths, cultures, lifestyles, there is more exposure to ‘counter-viewpoints’, all these things will contribute towards planting the seeds of doubt and scepticism. The answers given by these preachers have no foundation, they can all be destroyed with logic.
@@tanuj886 During Guru Gobind Singh’s time, the turban, carried a totally different connotation from that of a hat in Europe. The turban represented respectability and was a sign of nobility. At that time, a Mughal aristocrat or a Hindu Rajput could be distinguished by his turban. The Hindu Rajputs were the only Hindus allowed to wear ornate turbans, carry weapons and have their mustache and beard. Also at this time, only the Rajputs could have Singh (“lion”) or Kaur (“princess”) as their second name. Even the Gurus did not have Singh as part of their name, until the Tenth Guru. The downtrodden followers of the Sikh faith did not have the means to display aristocratic attire, nor were they allowed to, even if they had the means. (Doing so was usually equivalent to a death sentence.) It was in this context that Guru Gobind Singh decided to turn the tables on the ruling aristocracy by commanding every Sikh to carry a sword, take up the name Singh or Kaur, and have kesh (hair) and turban displayed boldly, without any fear. This effectively made his followers see themselves on a par with the Mughal rulers. When we are in the presence of the Guru, Guru is giving us the gift of his energy. That energy is sacred and when we retain it, Guru's energy lives in us and that gives us the living experience of Guru. To help retain that energy we cover our heads with a turban.
@@tanuj886 It is a signal to others that we live in the image of Infinity and are dedicated to serving all. The turban doesn't represent anything except complete commitment. My question is did guru nanak dev ji told people to grow head and beard hair and not to cut ? If yes, pls tell me where is written by guru nanak dev ji in guru Granth sahib ?
Please give some feedback on the following: The beard and hair don't make sense to this one; It's easier to eat, to take care (clean) a human which is short in hair and beard, it's easier to practice exercise as well. If that's how a human is and we should accept it, why did we develop clothes to protect from the elements? Why do we develop science with the intellect? We wouldn't have developed language, it was invented! Why do you use a turban, isn't it learned from your ancestors or cultural influence? It's not how human came to be!? These might have a different argument to give them power and truth, seems to me it's just a choice that you've made for your character, easy to say you chose to do nothing, but now... don't you have to do certain things to keep the beard clean which you didn't need to do before? Don't you have to use different products to take care of it? Or do you let it be natural? Seems to me there is always a way to justify your actions. Enlightenment has nothing to do with the way we look, it is internal, it is understanding by experience of the self. How can I interact without the I? There are no questions in the silence which is called the self, but there are no answers either, we need the person to play the game, don't we? I also don't understand how several gurus say that the moment of enlightenment is the same as leaving the body, like a thousand volts... I've come a long way in understanding and experiencing, but I might be away from enlightening since I didn't die or cried as much as the stories tell, I also keep using the word I, since I keep referring to myself as person, but it's the character that I use anyways, how can I not use the I and be on youtube. The eyes are tired...
André Periquito there is some personal choices.Dont cut hair does not means you united with oneness but it make closer to oneness IN OTHER WORD IT DONT MAKE YOU SPIRITUAL BUT ENHANCE YOUR SPIRTUALITY IF WE THINK IT IN THAT WAY THAT One power which is embodiment of love and this life is like a love story of divine and soul and hair are like flowering given by lord. And for lover of god (NOT FOR ANY RELIGIOUS MAN)is like a trimph of his beloved.AND BROTHER THERE IS NOT DIFFICULTY IN EXERCISE OR EATING WHILE YOU HAVE LONG BEARD.
André Periquito brother its not about use I word but forget you are I and surender your I to universal conciousness or nature you are very very very very very very very small part of that nature.
André Periquito yes Ideally sikhi is all about learning and we believe the spiritual battle is within but the significance of the outer appearance of a Sikh regarding the outer appearance was established by the 10th Guru Gobind Singh ji when he established the Khalsa and the Khalsa is a saint-soldier ; so a Sikh has the spirituality of a saint but thinking and appearance of a soldier. When you take Amrit then you accept this hukam(order) from the guru as you become Khalsa.

Kesh is for identity only and applies to uncut head hair for men and women and in addition beards for men only. Amritdhari women are free to remove body and facial hair. Bhatt Vahis were scribes of the Gurus (from Guru Arjan’s times onwards), the scribe from Guru Gobind Singh’s time was ‘Narbud Singh’, his writings and accurate account from the Vasakhi event of 1699 is still available today. His writings clearly state that in 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh created the Khalsa order, the 5 K’s were, Kara (iron/steel bracelet), Kachera (underpants), Kirpan (sword/dagger), Kanga (comb) and Keski (meaning head covering, Dastar or Turban). The four prohibitions for Amritdhari Sikhs are: - no halal meat, no intoxicants (alcohol, tobacco or drugs), no extramarital sex and no cutting Kesh which means head hair for men and women and in addition beards for men only. His writings clearly state ‘Keski’ as one of the 5 K’s and not cutting Kesh (head hair and beards for men - only) as one of the four prohibitions. If Kesh was one of the 5 K’s, then it would not have been one of the four prohibitions as Guru ji would not have repeated his instructions, also all the 5 K’s have to be given, keeping Kesh uncut is an instruction that has to be adhered to as are the other 3 prohibitions. Guru Gobind Singh did not use the word ‘roam’ which means all body hair as one of the prohibitions, (nor did he use it as one of the K’s which would have meant 4 K’s and 1 R (roam). Therefore, women including Amritdhari women are free to remove facial and body hair. All 5 k’s were articles of a soldier’s uniform, Kara to protect against a strike to the wrist, Kachera for ease of movement in battle, Kirpan for defence, Keski a head guard and the Kanga for discipline of combing Kesh. ‘Kesh’ meant uncut head hair (and beards for men only), the joora on top of the head was meant for two purposes, to protect against a blow to the head in battle and to create a unique identity to distinguish Sikhs from other faiths e.g. Muslims wore turbans and kept beards but did not have uncut hair, Hindu Sadhus kept jooreh but didn’t have turbans. Hence, the combination of uncut head hair (and beards for men only) and the Keski (turban, dastar) created a unique identity distinguishing Sikhs from all others. The ideas of the SGPC in their rehat maryada and of others who claim keeping unshorn hair across the body equals spirituality is wrong and is only an after - thought as spirituality has to come from inside one’s mind and body. Kesh is for identity only and means head hair for both men and women and beards for men only.
I have a question bhai ji if u can answer please.... Then what is the difference between hair and nails... Moreover in 52 BACHANS by Guru Gobind Singh Sahab Ji he gave importance to only head hair .. not facial hair. So why we give both equal importance. Hope you won't think wrong of me coz I'm asking this.
I want to add one more thing with this : As our head hair(Kesh) are always supposed to be covered as per 52 bachans, which is good ... But beard is always loose open ... I'm a westerner coming to Sikhi and kesh and turban are a challenge. I WANT to grow my hair and would love to start wearing turban, but I don't because I am married and my wife met me before I found Sikhi. I cut my hair and don't sport a beard because it would create much difficulty in my marriage which wouldn't only affect me and my wife, but also our two small children. I understand the reasons behind kesh and turban, but it shouldn't be over emphasized which I think is what Satpal is saying?
Veerji, i have a question and I feel that you answer it. I am 15 years old and I also wanna cut my hair. So do you think that it changes me as a person? I also wanna look better at school.
To grow your hair is to accept the will of the Lord. If God is perfect and does not make a mistake, then he didn't make any mistake by putting hair on your body. Remember, satgur Nanak sahib gave three commandments to bhai mardana, and one of those commandments were to never cut the hair. Know this as well, guru gobind Singh sahib also said to remain in the "saabat soorat" form as it is the will of the Lord. Your birth isn't to make people happy or it fit in, this is your chance. Gobind milan ki eh Teri baria. This is your chance to merge with the Lord. So take your pick, you want to make your beloved Guru/Waheguru happy who can eradicate your ego, or you want manifest in the wordly pleasures and waste your chance.
Our tenth Guru had asked us to keep our hair, he did not meant to grow it. When you cut your hair regularly, that means you are actually growing your hair at the speed of six inches in a year. So if you start cutting your hair regularly, that means you would have grown your hair ten feet long. So my final question would be ,why do you want to grow your hair ten to fifteen feet long in your lifetime.
i respect this.. not in agreement tho!! its not oh u want compliments datz y u keep hair .. if feeling of superiority is ego, feeling of inferiority is also ego.. btw, the importance of hair is that when u do simran n amrit or u can say accumulated energy in head shouldn't leak out, is the reason hair r respected.. to cover d top of ur head.. it has no meaning watsoever with world, appearance or anything.. its a spiritual aid!!

Guru Nanak taught us how to connect to the oneness in the Japji Sahib. The 9 guru’s prior to Guru Gobindji did not require their disciples to have the five K’s to connect to the oneness within our selves. What Guru Gobind ji gave us is unique and special but I feel that those things do give us an identity for our selves as Sikhs and to the world. But we must realize that these things are part Of the role of characters we play in the material world. I think Sikhi is for everyone, whether that person has long hair wears a kara or wether they wear a turban or a hijab or has a completely shaven head etc. does not matter. And that is what we are taught I believe in the Japji Sahib. We are not our bodies or our minds, And only through this realization and seeing the oneness that ties all of us together can we truly connect. The tool is through Naam Simran… meditation because these are the tools that opened our eyes to see the reality. So I think we should understand that the five K are not necessary for our connection because if they were then what sikhi has to offer it would only be for those people. The purpose of the five keys I believe is for different purpose. But they’re not prerequisites to what we are taught in the japji sahib.
There many person who not keshadhari but still got mukti but kesh gives to advantage over other u no longer care about what other think about u so ur automatically stay away from worldy pleasure and meditate on god better

Dead hairs come out automatically when you comb, but dead nails are not that easy so you cut them. See, when someone pulls your hairs, they are connected to the scalp. Scalp continues to provide hairs nourishments. There is pain and they are still living. we don't cut nails to that part where it hurts, you know what I mean.
Thanks for this video! Cutting hair is just a way to fit in society.. I'm living in France, and not coming from Indian background.. having kesh and turban is just alien to me, even if i am interested in Gurbani. You seem to neglect the fact that hair and turban is much more cultural than spiritual. Punjabis also grow beards and tie turbans to look smart and reliable to others.. looking like a nihang with chakar and all is just a kind of folklore ! The dal and sikh warrior units are not relevent in Europe.. if you are Indian and want to fit in sikh orthodox practicing people then its okay, but if you are just a regular french citizen, it's just excentricity.
Hello, I am having a question, would really appreciate if u can give me a simple answer. I am doing hospitality management at the moment but in the field of hospitality it's quite difficult to get a job (to be specific jobs related to front office or public relations) if u are having beard so my main question is, would i become a non gursikh if i continue to do path but cut my beard because without doing that it's quite impractical for me to get job in most of the 5star hotels
I think even if someone is not religious, if they are able to control their ego or control their brain, they would not really care about how they want to appear to the world.
Kesh is for identity only and applies to head hair for men and women and beards for men only. Amritdhari women are free to remove body and facial hair. In 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh created the Khalsa order, the 5 K’s were, Kara, Kachera, Kirpan, Kanga and Keski (meaning head covering, dastar or Turban). The Bhatts were scribes of the Gurus (from Guru Arjan’s times onwards), the scribe from Guru Gobind Singh’s time was ‘Narbud Singh’, his writings and accurate account from the Vasakhi event of 1699 is still available today. His writings clearly state ‘Keski’ as one of the 5 K’s and not cutting Kesh (head hair and beards for men - only) as one of the four prohibitions. Guru Gobind Singh did not use the word ‘roam’ which means all body hair as one of the prohibitions, therefore women including Amritdhari women are free to remove facial and body hair. The ideas of the SGPC in their rehat maryada and of others who claim keeping unshorn hair across the body equals spirituality is wrong and is only an after - thought as spirituality has to come from inside one’s mind and body. Kesh is for identity only and means head hair for both men and women and beards for men only.
I don’t know about you, but Sikhs have to shower every single day to be clean as possible. By showering daily and having good body hygiene, you won’t even need to worry about having “hair smells”.
There are five panj kakars, to be maintained all day every day, the five kakars have five names. Let the first (Kesh) be truthfulness, the second (Kangha) be honest living, and the third (Kara) charity in the name of God. Let the fourth (Kachera) be good will to all and the fifth (Kirpan) the praise of the Lord. Repeat the prayer of good deeds and then you may call yourself a Sikh
Tarundeep Singh although this may sound nice please check before complimenting what people write. This individual has strangely changed the Gurbani translation and its' message. Guru Nanak speaks to those muslims who are full of ego merely because they have completed their 5 prayers: First Mehl: There are five prayers and five times of day for prayer; the five have five names. Let the first be truthfulness, the second honest living, and the third charity in the Name of God. Let the fourth be good will to all, and the fifth the praise of the Lord. Repeat the prayer of good deeds, and then, you may call yourself a Muslim. O Nanak, the false obtain falsehood, and only falsehood. ||3||
m not sikh but a yoga practicenor and sikkhism and yogic culture sound very much same to me...so i guess i can answer that...hope u find it useful so the answer is girls are not supposed to have facial hairs specially like mustaches and beard if these happens means your body is making some hormones in excess quantities ..u must take care of that...🙏🙏🙏
Sikhs actually are in a promise with the guru when they taste the Amrit that they are going to do it the Guru's way... keeping a beard is Maaya itself and kirpan is a type of maaya itself which reminds us that Maya exists even now... we need Maaya to get out of Maaya itself it is the path itself... we need to admire the physical Ram And Krishna until we don't find a way to see the divine face the aadishakti the jyot in ourselves... Guru Gobind Singh Ji didn't need them but he still accepted them as he believed considering himself different then others is a sin which can be a good karma only if it is commited by the divine himself... krishna Said that he makes maaya himself and doesnt breaks its rules even when he can as he is the jyot himself he has taken birth and will die by his choice as he made this rule himself he would implicate this on his human incarnition as well, what is wrong and what is right he has decided himself, the feelings of anger, stress, love and joy he controls them all at last only if the mayaavi or the divine wants only then we will Japa the naam... he tests us and when you reach reach shambhu avastha or buddha(bud=buddhi or intellect, dha= separated or above) when you get above your own intellect and become a yogi or what we say enlightened or gurmukkhi... here you are with the state of shambhu or shiva where you become bhola and bhola is not the one who is a fool but the one who knows everything that maaya knows but as he is above it he manages to understand maaya and use it in such a way that it benefits them without being a dharmic and hence they have the jyot lightening in their faces as they have complete control over maya but still if they come in ego and do something that challanges the mere existence of maaya ie; doing magic for personal wealth etc etc... they are captured by maaya of ego and they are stripped off the naam itself... it is the reason why guru tej bahadur ji offered his head when he was asked to show maayaavi shakti just for fulfilling his ego he didnt do it as he had no ego in him... but we all are still learningand we must learn until the day we die... waheguruji da khalsa waaheguruji di fateh, Jai Shree Krishna, jai Bholey...
guru sahib asked to keep hairs coz these are natural things and also might have some spiritual reason which i dnt know but facial hairs like mustaches and besrd to a girls isnt normal..if they comes that means ur bodu is actively producing some hormones in excess so i guess girls can cut head hairs must be kept coz they are natural🙏
Naam Simran is the remembrance of the Almighty Universal Creator - God. Naam Simran is basically a form of meditation, where you chant God’s name. For Sikhs, we chant ‘Vaheguru’ which is what we call God, but if you’re Christian, Muslim or any other religion, you can chant God’s name as how you call him, for example Allah, Yahweh…etc.
having no hair at all i mean cutting it all like pandit ji or iskcon saints do i think also has the same reason that not us but the lord is imp we dont care abt wat others think
Yes... I get what u mean... Actually in the Indian traditions hair is considered more than just a normal body part. It has energies. It's made up of this pure protein substance called keratin. It has an affect on ur spirituality. So traditions which focus on finding truth within (ex. Jainism & Buddhism) completely remove their hair because in their meditation hair is a distraction. In other traditions like Sikhism and other sects of vedanta. Hair is considered an energy house. It has an affect on ur prana energy. That y these people keep their hair and tie it in a knot. The hair knot itself is mudra to lock the prana energy from escaping ur body. That's why we sit in cross legged posture and fold our hands. It's also techniques to lock the prana energy so it doesn't escape and just cycles within the body.
@@dawood4920 nops bro..jain and bodh cutting hairs must have another explanation ..if hair act as a power house or recievers of praan energy then bodh n jain would have kept it ...coz they are also meditators wether u finding inner peace or anything else it involves meditation which is just to make u able to focuss ur pran energies to wherever u want and that means they would also have needed hairs ...so ur answer doesnt seems right to me
@@rudrahx4496 Buddhism and jainism meditate on detachment. They try to detach from their body and meditate inwards. Whereas in Sikh meditate hair acts as a tool. Because Sikh meditation is naam based. It's focusing on the idea of "hukam". Means accepting the natural laws as they are. So keeping hair is a reminder of that also. In sikh philosphy there's non-dualism concept. Meaning that all of this nature is part of you and you are part of it. Everything is one. So you don't focus on oneself and don't see yourself as individual.

Finally someone speaks the truth of Guru granth sahib ji.
Im not a sikh but an ardent follower of Granth Sahib.. Thank you your explanation are simple to understand
Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji
There are very less people who really have an in depth understanding of such things, Most of us just identify ourselves with our egos like physical look, caste, race etc. Great wisdom by a true GurSikh, This wisdom is only possible with a neutral and open mind and with Simran, Dhyan .. @@Theamanhanda of course, anything that links us to One True God :)
The way I see this is that it can go both ways. It depends on how you view yourself with hair and beard. Buddhist monks for example see the hair and beard as a point self and pride and link to the material world, so they would shave.
Exactly my point
Yes but that’s what those monks think, if we look all of prophets and religious leaders and god’s had long hair,
They didn’t shave or cut their hair in any sort of way.
excellent way too describe what sikhi is......mind blowing
After a long time, I have seen a seek who is saying what it is in seek religion I bow down to you.
Internal first, external second.
I dont wanna sound rude but are sikhs allowed to trim their pubic hair and armpits?

Best religion to come out of Hinduism, we Hindus love, respect and Revere Guru Baba Nanak Dev ji and his simplistic teachings.
Guru nanak rejected hindu traditions & rituals....its a shame for hindus (and a slap to hinduism) that even though Guru nanak was born to hindu parents, he never accepted hinduism, he rejected it & started Sikhi...
He started sikhi bcoz sikhi is a way of living to reach God...its the perfect path for any human to follow that makes sense to people of all religions

Just by saying it's right or wrong, will not have any effect on anything... No one seems to want to understand our Gurus Bani, but everyone seems to be hurried to say if it's right or wrong....
Beard - Mark of a warrior
Long hair to hold the turban - jhoora tied within bhunga to tie the turban around i.e the helmet
It's a warrior race that has calmed down in times of peace waeguru
he speaks english very well with good accent
I was looking for an answer of why do we grow hair or importance in terms of facts stated in gurbani.... not who is relevant one who grows or one who doesnt....

In ang 1365 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, Kabir Ji states these lines: Kabeer, when you are in love with the one Lord, duality and alienation depart. You may have long hair, or you may shave your head bald.
If Guru sahib truly wanted us to keep our hair as a rule I dont feel they would've left this contradicting line which obviously states that it does not matter in guru granth sahib ji, they wouldve removed it so it won't cause ਸ਼ੰਕਾਂ
so in the end we meditate with pure heart but can we do it without long hair??
Yes, but eventually you would just lose the desire to cut your hair.
Wrapping your head in a 5-meter-long and half a meter-wide cloth for all day has no practical significance.
tanujdeep singh you make some very good points but indoctrination about hair runs strong and no one in Sikh establishment will question it.
@@Bluelu69 I agree. But the things will change, I can already see the young generation asking questions.
Guru Granth sahib isn't the only sikh authority there are also hukamnamas, dasam granth, 52 hukams, etc.
Please give some feedback on the following:
The beard and hair don't make sense to this one; It's easier to eat, to take care (clean) a human which is short in hair and beard, it's easier to practice exercise as well.

When you take Amrit then you accept this hukam(order) from the guru as you become Khalsa.
I wanted a reply from you. Asked you something.

I have ques i born in hindu family but didn't find any reason to do rituals and many more such things in hinduism because when i come to teenage what is point of doin these rituals (i found lots of non doing points for rituals rather than doin them) so i struggled to find truth then i decide to grow hair on experment basis and observation of Einstein ,newton and darwin body looks ,as i live in delhi i used to go red fort electronics market to buy some products i also visit the sis ganj gurudwara and ques myself for hairs in sikhs start finding the reason for 10th guru let his disciples said not to cut their hairs then searched about him lot on net , i liked his writings ,poems on creator ,so courageous, spiritual overall all rounder in morality that's why he doesn't hesitate to use weapons for defense and killing evil but in india they just follow anything said to them by 3rd person in their religion in every religion it is same story here and the problem is i don't want to take any religion side to follow in my life, idon't know what I'm still this date here comes the questions
1. I don't believe in rituals of hinduism bcz they don't make sense that's why i leave it (it is very hard still on this date to repel my parents specially mother to do things for hindu gods krishna sculpture and forcing me to do rituals too.) It is very hard to go against them bcz im not financially independent i also feel regret to do this but only one thing motivated me spiritual life questions and at death what I'm gonna think about my life. How to tackle this all hinduism and sikhism with studies.
2. I don't want to sikh bcz i found rituals in sikhism specially in shej dharis ryt now .
3 but i love teachings of all gurus they are so meaningful loving towards creator specially of (1,5,10)th guru. How to decipher meaning of sikh gurus in poems (i learned myself gurumuohi to understand the real qords from gurus)
4.i dont want to cut my hair, im punjabi hindu but used to cut hair till 2.5 years yrs ago i stopped as i think i have gained something i have also felt some changes in thought process but my frnds and relatives says im sikh but i dont want to be a sikh shej dhari and don't want to take amrit also , reason i have told u above.(shej dharis=ritual problem, amrit dharis= not independent and don't find it necessary now days.)

brother i dont force u to be a gursikh (thats ur choice ) but u are in a wrong i must say .Rituals in sikhism are not meaningless they have a deep meaning though....although sikhism have very less rituals but full of spirituality but nowadays who just want to keep their name on the boards are imposing those things on sikhism which are not been a part of it however i would not say hinduism does not contain spiritual practices it does contain spirituality

So pleased to listen this vedio
Can someone help
I am wondering if is there any bani which states that not to cut hair
I understand vedio concept clearly just wondering should we consider singh as a dressup code with hairs or somewhere in gurbani stated not to cut hair
Thanks
Dasam Granth has Bani which talks about the important of Khand De Phaul Amrit, and the Maryada set up by the Guru is for the Khalsa not to cut kesh.
Wow I got my answer. Thank you
I have a question bhai ji if u can answer please.... Then what is the difference between hair and nails... Moreover in 52 BACHANS by Guru Gobind Singh Sahab Ji he gave importance to only head hair .. not facial hair. So why we give both equal importance.
Hope you won't think wrong of me coz I'm asking this.
I want to add one more thing with this :
As our head hair(Kesh) are always supposed to be covered as per 52 bachans, which is good ... But beard is always loose open ... This can cause many problems in normal life in lot of professions ... Like doctor, chef etc. But Guru always wanted us to do Kirat first then Naam jap... So beard was never suppose to be considered on same level as Kesh?
@@creativecorner16 ki keh rhe ho manraj. If you can see, you cannot stop nature from growing your beard.
Think of a woman with a beard. You are saying the same thing for a man.
Going with the nature means the surrender of yourself to the supreme.
@@alphamusic3957 first of all please don't mind me asking these questions coz if you keep such questions unanswered and say its taboo to even question it leads to andh-bhagti. Guru Nanak dev ji himself questioned pandits ... When you said "ki keh rhe ho Manraj" then you completely rejected my questioning authority and then made your remark .... Please don't mind me being harsh but if we are following a religion of Reason then learn to answer and more than that learn to question.
@@alphamusic3957 although i agree with you completely on this point that the way nature created us we should not resist it ... That's why i am asking why do we cut nails.
2. In 52 bachans of Guru Gobind Singh Ji... He gave us 2 points regarding kesh: one is we should not cut kesh and second is that kesh should always be covered.
According to my Understanding from this ... The Guru Ji is talking about head hair only as Kesh... Coz beard is not covered.
One last point: our head hair is said to be connected to the "10th dwaar" which is even believed by hindus. That makes it more important than any other hair in our whole body.
Please answer these points .
Again I don't want to offend anyone ... Real sikh knows it that without questioning you can never reach the answers.

Waheguru ji
Are you cutting your hair to accept yourself... Or.. For acceptance from others... That is the question you ask yourself.
Our tenth Guru had asked us to keep our hair, he did not meant to grow it. When you cut your hair regularly, that means you are actually growing your hair at the speed of six inches in a year. So if you start cutting your hair regularly, that means you would have grown your hair ten feet long. So my final question would be ,why do you want to grow your hair ten to fifteen feet long in your lifetime.

i respect this.. not in agreement tho!! its not oh u want compliments datz y u keep hair .. if feeling of superiority is ego, feeling of inferiority is also ego.. btw, the importance of hair is that when u do simran n amrit or u can say accumulated energy in head shouldn't leak out, is the reason hair r respected.. to cover d top of ur head.. it has no meaning watsoever with world, appearance or anything.. its a spiritual aid!!

thanks for sharing...if you do Simran without knowing the literal translation or what you are actually speaking(chanting)does it have the same effect.
What sort of "Effect" you are talking about?
Aa person who is in love with oneness never disrespects his body creation
Five K are necessary
You guys are so disgusting not even following what our gurus told us 🤦🏽♀️
A person who is love with the oneness will never disrespect his body creation
You are not even one percent of what sikhi is 🤦🏽♀️
Wgjkkwgjkf I feel very connected to two religious teachings- Sikhism and Islam. I personally feel that some energy from Inside comes out untill a certain length. And feel a need to preserve it. I am just curious why cut nails if not cutting the hair? Can someone please explain ?
Dead hairs come out automatically when you comb, but dead nails are not that easy so you cut them.
See, when someone pulls your hairs, they are connected to the scalp. Scalp continues to provide hairs nourishments. There is pain and they are still living.
we don't cut nails to that part where it hurts, you know what I mean.
It was our Gurus Hukam to keep Kesh and Dhari so it is important..
Sir Naam Simran or Ardaas or Chaupai Sahib Or Sukhmani Sahib 🙏🙏
Keeping your hair is accepting the will of the Lord. If God is perfect and makes no mistakes, then he made no mistake by putting hair on your body.
Lord Jesus had beard and long hair.

🤔 wonder what will happen... Hope all goes well 🙂
By cutting your bodypart.. so, have got the job now???
I think even if someone is not religious, if they are able to control their ego or control their brain, they would not really care about how they want to appear to the world.

Remove it
@@GaganSingh-zz9el Why different meaning for Sikhi for men and women? Why should a girl remove it and not a guy?

Patriotic Singh how is that with braids - do they keep the prana too?
