I am a catholic Christian, and also open minded as much as possible, for example, I am studying a course about the Baha'i faith at the moment. I recently was praying in a multifaith room when three Sikhs came in to meditate and they invited me to join them, so I chanted Vaheguru with them and now I chant it at the end of Morning Prayers of the Catholic Church as well. It is lovely and clearly a divinely ordained teaching in my view. But I have certainly not gone through any Sikh rituals or anything.

That is great! Sikhi is universal and can be applied to anything and everything. Catholicism is also universal, which it exactly translates to. Let Jesus Christ be with you.

Of course we believe in revelation, the Gurus spoke revelation, Guru Raam Daas ji says clearly, "Accept Guru's bani as the Truth upon the Truth O Guru's Sikhs, God himself is making me speak this." You need to research more before making random youtube comments. Peace

Hi Margarita, there are five main mantars (see our long video "Mool Mantra and Vaheguru Mantra" at start of Japji Sahib playlist), but any gurbani can be chanted. Calling God and praising God is Naam Jap, but only when we are connecting to God, rest is just trying or perhaps not concentrating :)
Yoga and Sikhi are distinct but related as Sikhi is trying to connect you to God and teach an ethical way of living, and some yoga does that. Ultimately yoga is about Union. We sing Kirtan as our Yoga

Bhaisahib, its a Very complicated matter, the relationship between own efforts and kirpa is deeply spiritual and hard to explain in 500 words...both are true in their own way. We have to make efforts to follow gurus teachings (if we already know what they are) as we've already heard them, (suniaa), then we can say "manniaa" and finally we will get Gods love, (kita Bhao) and wash in that tirath inside us...when we rise up spiritually we understand it was all grace, so dont be proud, be thankful

What is the relationship between yoga&Sikhi? Is there a relationship between the two? Here in the US I think this question is particular in need of clarification.

Dasam Duar from Anand Sahib (Pauri 38)
The breath keeps this body alive, God blew the breath (Life) into this body and activated it).
He blew the breath of life into this musical instrument (activated the body), revealed its nine doors, and kept the tenth-door hidden. Dassvaa: Tenth - The Tenth-Door, is the place of soul i.e. of God, and is at the top of the head. This is not a body-organ. By developing faith in the Guru, the tenth-door even (which is secret, hidden) gets revealed

psrehal..To define Naam is very complicated. At one level, its the name, so Jap Naam means Chant the Name (of the Creator). Now you can chat Mool Mantar or other mantars, but the main Name give to us, ie the Gurmantar is Vaheguru. So we should chant vaheguru. However, another meaning of Naam is the Connection to Vaheguru, ie saying Vaheguru doesn't just mean Naam, its when you say it and connect. Thats why in Gurbani there are many pangtis (lines) where the Singer is begging for Naam.

Question 2: What Karmas would have decided my first birth? I was part of God and when he put me into this Maya Jaal, I born into some species, what was that based on? Rich people are enjoying luxurious life, does it mean they did good karmas earlier? Since they are doing bad deeds now, does it mean they will born in poor family next time or may be some other species?

Thanks for the explanation.I hv 1 more question. When we read/listen to Gurbani. Many times it has been asked to Jap Naam and do Simran which indicates that an individual should put his own efforts to do Simran like Wake up in morning and chant Naam. While on the other hand, many times Guru ji is saying that if Vaheguru wants only then we'll do Simran which indicates nothing is in our hands. For Example : "Aaj Japaye Japey so Nau|| Aap Gavaye so har gun gaon||". Could you help me understand it?

Just a benti, it is important to only talk about what you know and have experienced yourself.
Gurbani gives an exact jugti of how to do simran. Until you have begun experiencing Naam (anhad shabad, dhoor, naad, etc) you should not try teaching others. It becomes the blind leading the blind and Sikhi just becomes lost with a whole bunch of ppl talking about things they know nothing about.

  • @psrehal

I saw one your the debate videos with a christian sister. Just wanted to know is chanting not a concept in christanity? I mean as per her it is not, but she might not be the representative of her faith. Just normally asking to be more confident on chanting, that yes it is mo doubt the correct way. Cos I actually works for me 'satnam sri waheguru'. 🙏🏻

Many Christians chant. Eastern Orthodox, and Roman & Eastern Catholics, consider chant to be the pinnacle of musical worship for God. We chant many prayers including parts of our Scripture. Sometimes people chant long prayers or songs, and sometimes they chant a short prayer again and again, similar to a mantra, to enter continuous prayer and remembrance of God. There are lots of videos and recordings - if you search “Orthodox chant” or “Gregorian chant” you can hear examples. But some Christians don’t chant at all. I am Catholic and chant certain prayers at different times of day, which I think is similar to what many Sikhs do! Like Sikhs, we pray and chant to remember and praise God throughout our day, to connect to Him, and to embrace the path He gave us so our passions and spiritual illnesses will be healed and our souls will be turned toward Him. blessings 🙏🏻

SSA Jugraaj veer Ji. Very well explained. Chanting waheguru makes sense. But the way you compare it with Jugas' (Yug) and their mantras (vedic stuff) doesn't make any sense.
According to Gurbani word "Kalyug" (darkness/dark age) means absence of HIS remembrance- "ik ghaddi na milte taa-n KALYUG hota." When one is in his remembrance then there is no kalyug or any other yug. So kalyug is just a state of mind according to bani. And so far, I didn't hear about other three Yugs in gurbani.

+D. Brar (Siman) That is true. Gurbani often has literal physical meanings, and also the inside spiritual meaning. The spiritual meanings change as you get closer to Vaheguru. That advance dstuff we dont need to know, its for the mahapurkhs to know.

      D. Brar . You're correct the 4 yugs explanation doesn't make any sense. Everything in gurbani is for you to understand, it is instructions for your mind. Don't let ppl belittle you to let you think the higher understanding is only for special people. We are all special because Mun tu jot saroop hai. You are Waheguru.

Guru Nanak has 947 Shabds, 5600 verses; Guru Angad has 63 Shlokas and 250 verses; Guru Amardas has 869 Shabds and 5100 verses; Guru Ramdas has 638 Shabds and 3800 verses; Guru Arjan has 2313 Shabds and 13900 verses; Guru Tegh Bahadur has 115 Shabds and 690 verses; Bani of all Bhagats has 788 Shabds and 4000 verses; Bani of all Sikhs has 11 Shabds and 100 verses. Total is 5714 Shabds and 30,000 verses. Waheguru word is not mentioned even once.
ਵਾਹਗੁਰੂ is used once in page 1403 & 1404 by Bhatt Gayand Ji & the word ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ is used 9 times in page 1402 & 5 times in page 1403 by Bhatt Gayand Ji. Whereas the word ਹਰਿ has appeared 8344 times, ਰਾਮੁ 2533 times, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ 1371 times, ਗੋਪਾਲ 491 times, ਗੋਬਿੰਦ 475 times.
    Kabit Savaiye Bhai Gurdas
Just as by saying sugar, sugar, one cannot feel sweetness of sugar in the mouth, unless sugar is actually placed on the tongue. In a dark night, saying lamp, lamp does not dospel dark night unlesss lamp is lit. By saying knowledge (Giyan) again and again, knowledge cannot be obtained, unless carefully reading and understanding the text. Similarly just repeatedly chanting Guru, Guru, one cannot get virtues of the Guru. One can get virtues and merge with the Guru only by contemplating on the Shabd of the Guru. Get spiritual knowledge and wisdom from it and live life accordingly.

But the illusion, or filth is from God also. Everything is God. So why would God put us in this body? To expirence it self. But to also know God. The ego does divide us from God but never detaches us, the ego is just us forgetting about God. God forgetting about him self in this illusion. God is pure Truth.

Well that is all a game and we're a part of it. It depends upon us whether to loose or win :)
From gurbani, we're here because we've been failed in our task of experiencing god in previous life but God is so humble that they gave us another chance to try. It's like "ranch" (a place where parents send to a child when he needs to be trained"

This Karma's fundamental is also very complicated. I always hear that it's Karma of previous Birth which makes you live a good or bad life in current birth and so on so forth.
Question 1: I have done something bad to you in previous birth and in return you are doing something bad to me in current birth and because you have done something bad to me in current birth so I'll take revenge in next birth. Isn't this going into infinite loop?
Question 2: Posting in next line because of limited char
