Yes. Hehe....cz I'm a Sikh here. The thing is that we do this because one of our Gods actually said "Vand Shakna" which means sharing.
+ Not only sharing with its religion but sharing with the needy and the public. I myself see a lot of people in the Sikh temples during Lunch time in the kitchen /langgar + a few of them are not Sikhs.

My 89 year old Sikh Grandmother told me that back in early days of Sikhism, When India (India+Pakistan) used to be invaded by Mughals to capture the women, the SINGHS (the warriors) deliberately kept long hair to fight them back (to seem bigger and stronger), which also was in line with GuruNanak Ji's preaching.
There is a saying that a Sardar [Captain - a Sikh man] goes crazy at 12am. This unfortunately turned into a joke in high schools, but the real reason behind this is that the mughals used to invade at midnight and the Sardars had to go all out crazy to protect their women and children.
A true Sikh is honest, humble and will do anything to help others. Mess with them and they can tear you apart.
I still ask my Nani (grandma) to tell me stories of GuruNanak and Sikhism and she enjoys it more than I do.
Proud to be a part of it.

    Sikhs are respected everywhere.
It appears their spiritual ethos takes on the understanding that so many "reformations" have. And largely reverted to the original "God given" knowledge. Plus just a few worldly necessities. Beautiful and timely indeed.
Virtually, if not all religion as it grows, diversifies, adds ceremonies and behaviors, sacrifices, pilgrimages and endless other nonsense.
And often lead to hundreds of variants.
For those that know, the pathway to divinity is quite simple. Time consuming yes. But how will you know?
"The Truth bears witness of itself": one thing alone must be accomplished to establish "your first great step", and it is called "Illumination ". And you will really know when you have it from direct experience . All are capable of achieving it. Not even the worst sinner is barred ever.

    • @karamjotsingh
      @karamjotsingh 3 роки тому +6

Yes, the reason we keep our head covered all the times is, we (all, actually) are in the presence (and remembrance) of God - all the time. So as a gesture of respect, the tenth gate (seventh chakra/1000 petalled lotus crown) on our head should be covered.
While showering, washing, combing we do take it off :)

The Sikh faith is a monotheistic religion, meaning Sikhs worship one God. Guru Nanak taught that one must honor God by honoring others and the Earth, God’s creation. Nine more Gurus succeeded Guru Nanak, and continued to spread his teachings across the world. Guru Gobind Singh was the last Guru; he named the Sikh sacred text, the Guru Granth Sahib, to be the eternal Guru that would guide the Sikhs going forward.
The verses of the Guru Granth Sahib are written in poetic verse, and are intended to be sung. Singing isn a crucial component of Sikhism; Guru Nanak himself was known to sing his teachings as he travelled across South Asia on foot. The hymns of the Gurus are known as Gurbani, the Guru’s word.
There are three core pillars of Sikhism, formalized by Guru Nanak. These are:
Vaṇḍ Chakkō: Sharing with others, helping those in need, as well as participating as part of a community. A spirit of giving, sharing, and caring for one another is central to Sikhism.
Kirat Karō: Earning/making a living honestly, without exploitation or fraud, and speaking the truth at all times.
Naam Japna: Meditating on God’s name to live a life of decency and humility.
Sikhs see the temporary distractions of the material world as an illusion, or Māyā. The five qualities of ego, anger, greed, attachment and lust are known as the Five Thieves that rob a person of their ability to realize their oneness with God and creation. Sikhs work to counteract the temptations of these qualities through the Sikh values of service, equality, and seeking justice for all.
Sikhs believe that one’s form on Earth is only a temporary vessel for the eternal soul. Thus, the death of the physical body is a natural part of the life cycle, while the soul remains. Sikhs believe in reincarnation, meaning death is not an end, but merely the progression of the soul on its journey toward God.

Your outer appearance (of keeping your hair intact, turban, 5 k's etc.) Always remind of who you are.. It compells you to live in a way your gurus taught you.. If I do anything wrong, u go see yourself in the mirror.. U see your uncut hair and turban,.. Then u are forced to think that who you are.. What are our roots.. Should I be doing that..
This outer appearance helps keep our moral conduct intact.
