Thanks so much. I just couldn't figure out that the bulb goes in first and then the silver connector. Once you showed me that, it was easy. I took my battery out as it was too hard to reach on the passenger side. I was nervous as the bulb is expensive!
I have the same Issue now Ralph, it looks like he broke or shaved one of those plastic "flaps" to allow the cap to rotate arround 0:12 for reference. . I'm wondering if there is any , but up to now no good news.
For mine I removed all the bolts that I could access holding the light in place and managed to prise the cap off (more force than I would have liked) the problem is I can't get it back on. I trimed a few of the tabs off to make it easier but still no luck.
I finally was able to get mine replaced. I though t I was going to need to take the bumper off and remove the whole headlight housing. I wanted to give it a try before going to that extreme. It was not too difficult to remove the headlight cap. I just broke of the little fins that are there to help turn and then it just took a little bit of force to turn and some gentle prying to get off. Changing the bulb is simple after that. The very difficult part was getting the cap back on. This took me at least 45 minutes. They key is to make sure you have the notches and grooves perfectly lined up (I marked the outside of the cap and the headlight casing to help). If they are not lined up when you wedge the cap into place it is impossible to proceed. Once I wedged the lined up cap in as much as possible, it took some force, prying and mallet tapping to get all the pieces into their slots and seated correctly. Once in that position I turned the cap by hand some of the way and then got the cap in its final locked position by putting a flat head on the remanence of the fins I broke off and then tapped with a mallet to get it to rotate. It is a royal pain!
I purchased the H11 and then found the same on the 2014. It was an ordeal getting the black cover off the passenger side as the metal support behind it holding the top corner of the air box was interfering with spinning it off. I had air box out and finally finessed the cap off. I ground down one of the fins on the cap but that wasn't enough. I ended up taking channel lock pliers and gently bent the metal support slightly clockwise to allow the cap to fit and turn properly. I wouldn't have minded seeing the whole process in steps on your video but good anyway and thanks for taking the time on this.
So it is either removing the whole headlight box (obviously removing the front fascia-grille) or bending the metal support for replacing the passenger side bulb? Subaru could've done better.
Thanks for the vid. I’ve one question though, you stopped short explaining how you put back the dust cover. I had a real hard time trying to figure out and gave up Would be amazing if someone out there knows how to do it
The round cover over the silver connector and bulb? If so, the cap has notches that sit in the assembly and you spin it righty-tighty for about a half turn. You'll feel it hit it's stopping point. Mine was tough to start again after replacing the bulb. I gently used a flat head screwdriver on the plastic fins to help push it back arouns
Your car must be the loaded trim because Hid headlights usually come on upper trims. I agree that they are a lot more expensive to replace, but they provide better visibility compared to Halogen bulbs.
Got my crosstrek last month. It seems that the bulb is inverted… The cutoffline is below, not above the beam pattern. Is this possible? Thanks for the help.
Glad you suggested wearing gloves while handling the glass bulb. Another reason is that skin oils will cause the bulb to heat unevenly and can result in premature failure.
Thanks man. It's amazing how wrong those other "how too" videos are... they can't possibly have ever driven one at night , especially after changing the wrong globe.. God bless.
THANK YOU!!!! I wasted so much time trying to figure out the H11 bulb and I'm looking at the assembly thinking I'm a moron. Really appreciate this!
thanks for posting this-- I thought I was crazy trying to figure out where the H11 lamp housing was!

how'd you remove the cap? there seems to be a metal bar that prevents it being turned/loosened all the way.

I’m having the same issue here. Any tips?

@@Zoetempleton-_- I'm in that step... Trying to install the cap back...

thank you, this video helped so much with the couple things you suggested - I thought I was going crazy
Same thing here. I already bought the H11 bulbs so now I have to try to find the receipt so I can return them. How frustrating.

Alright it wasnt easy but I did get that stupid dust cover off… I must have missed it but what kind of bulbs do I get?
