the manual says to remove the washer fluid tube which is blocking you from putting your hand in to remove the globe. I would do this. Just get a Philips (star) screwdriver and turn counter clockwise of=n the plastic screw securing it to the body. Remove washer top and then you have more room.

Just to let people know as it wasn't entirely evident in the video: The clip to release bulb needs to be pressed down on the far side away from the bulb. When replacing the low beam bulb on the passenger side it is very hard to see the socket and is done a lot by feel (as I found out). I was trying to depress the clip by the socket to no avail until I moved back towards the wires and depressed it there. Thought I'd mention it and hopes it helps someone.

Just did the high and low beams on my mom’s car since the mechanic told her that he’d have his teenage son mess around with them to see if he could replace the bulbs and still wanted to charge mechanic rates for labor! Thanks for saving us a couple hundred bucks!

Thank you for this excellent instructional video. I bought my bulb and had major issues putting the new bulb back in place and noticed it had two red gaskets which prevented it from going in deep enough to be screwed back in place. I slipped one gasket off and it screwed right into place. Bulb replaced and working properly.

Decent video, on a 2014 there is no red tab, its a very long black tab that catches on the bottom of the bulb. Subaru makes this very hard for no reason, the wire leads are also extremely short.
Thank you. I had no idea what to do about the passenger side. My air intake had retaining clips instead of screws so now i need to replace those. Job’s done though.
EXCELLENT video. I could not have changed the bulb without it. Thank you!!! Only issue I had was when I went to screw in the screws that hold the a/c duct they just spin & spin. I rewatched that part and his tighten right away. Those black clips suck. Oh well, my nephew will figure that out. I have a working headlight.... That I installed. Unbelievable 😁
Awesome video.... to get the lamp back in the socket, one tab is larger, once I got that sorted, I was golden! Worked like charm.. Glad to have small hands right now. Didn't have to remove the windshield wiper fluid parts to access the low beam headlamp on the driver's side. Thank you!

I have a 2016 Crosstrek and the replacement method and bulb is different than seen in video. Commenting for others with same as what I have. Low beam is accessed by removing a screw cap and then a wire clip. Replacement bulb is expensive $100 +
I wish I could figure out the 'unlocking' part. Sadly it's so cramped behind the battery casing, and the video can't really show it; It looks easy but I'm not able to get it unlocked.

Seems like mine has a black encasing cover from the oem that prevents it from being accessed. Tried to turn but The metal frame get caught when trying to unscrew :( great guide nevertheless

Do you need the plastic cover on the air intake? Always break the plastic bolts.
Does anyone know the name of the plastic 4 prong washer and screw that holds intake duct to the car because i lost it and need a new one. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about go to 3:22)
"auto body clip" will work for most of the mail-order websites. they come in different sizes, based on the diameter of the hole.
I dont understand how he got the low beam bulb to pop out i cant get it off on my crosstrek
if you have hid low beams, it's more complicated: there's a plastic cover to remove first (turn counter-clockwise and pull out), then a bigger socket clipped on to the bulb. and then the bulb itself is held in with 2 spring clip wires. there's a different video available for hid.

lol one of mine popped out without too much resistance. second one took a bit more. when i went to put it back in realized i had broken it. im checking amazon now for replacement

Have to really Jack the car up and everything just to change the bulb ? You’ve got to be kidding me

nope! there's an extra plastic cover, and a big, bulky socket. the upshot is that it's even more crowded than the ordinary halogen bulbs, and at $100 a bulb, it's even more critical not to get skin oil on the bulb, or crack it while putting it in.
Is it any easier just to remove the complete headlight?

+Miro555 Thanks for checking us out! The bulb for halogen will be H-11 and the bulb for HID will be D2R for the low beams. The high beam will be 9005.
How the fuck did the high beam bulbs get the much more convenient location?
Life is filled with little mysteries ... Ours is not the reason why. But I think it has something to do with the light manifold exhaust gasket.🤔

Sheesh. What a pain. Good vid though. Hopefully this means that these crosstreks don't come with those obnoxious new blinding headlights! If not, I'll be swapping out for old ones immediately. Those folks look like fools driving city streets with them. "If you're not part of the solution you are part of the problem."
