This was the SECOND video I watched. Glad I did. The first had NOTHING about removing the washer tubing OR the snorkel. Your instruction saved me a lot of time and frustration.

I know this video is old, but THANK YOU! You made it so easy for me to change my own headlights. I’m so proud of myself and I only broke one clip-the one holding the part for the washer fluid! (Had to happen. It’s so cold out and I’m lucky the headlights lasted 7 years as it is!) Now I can just go buy a pack of those and I’m done!
Good Job @cherylr1850 yeah most plastic parts are brittle when temps start dropping. If it's really cold out and I have to remove plastic clips I warm them up a little with a heat gun... (or a blow dryer)

I had a Acura RDX last year and when I watched various videos on replacing the headlight, they all showed taking the car basically apart to get to the bulb... and that seemed about right when I attempted it but gave up - SO, I’m thrilled to see that it seems to be much easier with the Crosstrek which I purchased 6 months ago and now have a bulb out. Thanks for the easy to understand video... it’s 2AM now so I’ll give a go at it during the day. Thanks again.
I agree with you @Mile High Dude some cars make it almost impossible to swap out a bulb. I'm sure you will have no issues swapping your bulbs. Let me know how it turns out for you.

Alcohol wipes are the best alternative suggestion ive heard, thank you! i went ahead and cleaned the housing as well, as I've had my passenger side light burn out 4x as often as the driver's side.

I noticed there was no electrical connection on the passenger side? Am I correct to say the right side has the electrical connection only? I too am a 63 year old woman attempting to do this myself Thank you!
I havent looked at the 2021 Housing and info is limited. The only way to find out What bulb is in there is to look in the book or take the bulb out of the housing. Check whats printed on the bulb. Don't touch the glass element with your bare fingers.

@@firstchoicelastchoice28 You got it. I think they were still using the H11 in the 2020 models. So, that might be a starting point for you. I did install LEDs in mine as well. @@firstchoicelastchoice28 Copy that. But if you do notice any warning light coming on after you install them, the. You might know the cause. I might add.... the DRL (Daytime Running Light) is another story. I did also switch those out with LED they are nice during the day. BUT, when you flip these on at night they do tend to spot light on the road and it takes a couple seconds for your eyes to readjust. It’s not the LEDs fault but the housings fault. The reflector is just too small. I ended up putting a Sylvania Ultra in there. I’ll forgive something out for them.

@@IamWedge I have the 2016 so mine must be different. It would not come out. Upon further inspection at the bottom there is a plastic notch preventing me from pulling it up and out of the larger reservoir. So I just unscrewed the top part as you and did and rotated the tube as much as I could out of the way. I was barely able to get back in there to unplug and replug the new one in. The passenger side was much easier. Thanks for the video!
@@DannoM_ Once you removed that top pin that hold that fill tube in place, thats why you rotate the tube. To get it out of that notch. Once you have it out of the notch it should come right out of the hole. At any rate, now you know for sometime in the future. Yes, that drivers side is a little bit of a tight area to work in. @@IamWedge Yeah, I was shocked. Didn't even notice it at first, because was in the city with plenty of lights on. Then I looked at a cars bumper and realized I didn't see a light reflection. I thought maybe a fuse blew out, wasn't even sure it was headlights, but couldn't check that either. Had to drive home with brights on since I live in the burbs. Felt bad about it, but had to. Eventually got home, checked fuse next day and was good. Followed your tutorial and fixed it easy, thanks!
Are you talking about getting them to go back in the headlight housing? See at time mark @2:14 ? the final resting position is about 8 o'clock. So, that would mean somewhere between 5 -7 would be where to insert them. See where the wire connector comes out the bottom? Now think of the hands of a clock. Just rotate the bulb's housing till you feel it drop into place. Then rotate till you hear it click into place. Just take your time and find the proper location. Hope this helps
@@IamWedge make sure you have the correct bulb... hi beam bulb is different than the lo beam bulb and cannot be switched. After you pop the hood, the hi beam jumps out at you... the lo beam is tucked in further to the outside.
This is a dumb question 🤦🏻♀️ both of mine went out so I’d like to replace them. You have put in the description H11 bulb. H11-2 is what came up in the search. This this the same?
Replaced mine this very way but still isnt working! Fellow Subaru folks, any advice? My guess is a fuse? Having trouble identifying the correct one. Bulb issue is on the passenger side.
You probably have the Xenon HID bulb for low beam. Mine has it on a 2017 outback 2.5i limited and I couldn’t find a video but it’s also easy to replace just harder to spot. Twist the housing cover to remove it, twist the square metal connector to remove it, then twist the bulb to remove it. The back of the bulb is round and flush to the surface. Looks like a cigarette lighter. You have to pinch two metal holding clips out of the way on each side to remove it. Phillips brand HID was $55 a bulb at the time of this posting. The only HID they had in stock at advanced auto was Sylvania and it was $180 😳

Talking about the guy driving around with one headlight. How about two? lol Yes one went two weeks ago and now both are out happened on an hr drive home Friday night smh SCARY!!
That's why I always replace both of mine in pairs. The one that still works.... is a just in case lamp for the future. Did you drive home with high beams on? I hope you were able to get the light switched over no problem. :)

There is no room for a camera and my hand in that area. You will see that starting position for the light seated is about 7-8 o'clock I did say to rotate counter-clockwise. Once you hear and feel it unlock, it's as simple as pulling the bulb out of the housing.

Which bulb lights when you place the car in drive? Which is the running bulb?

It's really easy @Dan M Just twist it back and forth as you pull up on it. Don't forget to lube that oring when you reinsert it. You got this!

Replaced mine this very way but still isnt working! Fellow Subaru folks, any advice? My guess is a fuse? Having trouble identifying the correct one. Bulb issue is on the passenger side.
I would start with a meter and see if you have power going to the pigtail for the bulb.

This one is super easy but the low beam on my 2013 looks nothing like this. High beam is exactly as shown in this video.
Just a little design change. Were you able to swap out the bulb(s)?
You probably have the Xenon HID bulb for low beam. Mine has it on a 2017 outback 2.5i limited and I couldn’t find a video but it’s also easy to replace just harder to spot. Twist the housing cover to remove it, twist the square metal connector to remove it, then twist the bulb to remove it. The back of the bulb is round and flush to the surface. Looks like a cigarette lighter. You have to pinch two metal holding clips out of the way on each side to remove it. Phillips brand HID was $55 a bulb at the time of this posting. The only HID they had in stock at advanced auto was Sylvania and it was $180 😳

Yes one went two weeks ago and now both are out happened on an hr drive home Friday night smh SCARY!!
That's why I always replace both of mine in pairs. The one that still works.... is a just in case lamp for the future. Did you drive home with high beams on? I hope you were able to get the light switched over no problem. :)

Explained well but you don’t show how to properly remove the light
There is no room for a camera and my hand in that area. You will see that starting position for the light seated is about 7-8 o'clock I did say to rotate counter-clockwise. Once you hear and feel it unlock, it's as simple as pulling the bulb out of the housing.
My 2014 Crossrek has a cover over a ballast. Not like this video.

I too always replace in pairs. Keep that one for a spare. Nothing worse than driving with one eye at night. :)
H11 is low beam
9005 for high beam they gave ne wring ones 😂 at auto zone
