Yes, this is one of many puzzling aspects. The doctors, who suspected her even after they were aggressively rebuffed by the managers, could have acted on their own initiative. Installing a hidden video camera is not rocket science, and some are tiny. Letby herself, being cunning, might have suspected something. But it appears that they didn't even try. Why not?

Did you see the BBC News article from 2022 about an inspection after Lucy was in prison on remand, and about departments she didn't have anything to do with, that said The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the Countess of Chester hospital's maternity services had deteriorated to "inadequate" following the dinspection in February and March 2022.
Findings show the area is "lacking in staff" and "suitable equipment" and that the health trust failed to learn from previous safety incidents.
It said between April and November last year five patients had major haemorrhages after giving birth at the hospital, resulting in a need for unplanned hysterectomies.
Not all those incidents were reported as serious and action plans were not completed quickly, the CQC said, and one patient's lifesaving surgery was delayed as there was no hysterectomy kit in that part of the hospital.

One of the problems is a poor understanding of maths. If you remove all the cases of babies becoming ill or dying for clear reasons, and you look at the rest, then if a nurse, doctor, whoever is there in every case, then it doesn't take long for it to be almost certain that they are committing these crimes.
Let's say Letby worked for just over forty hours a week. Since care is given twenty four hours a day, then she will have been working just one in four of these hours (40 or so divided into the total number of hours in a week, which is 168).
This means that the chance she would be present when a particular suspicious event occurs is one-in-four. So to be there when two events occur is one-in-sixteen.
When five events have occurred the chances that Letby would be present at all of them is over a thousand to one. Time to phone the police, I think.
Six events? That would be four thousand to one.
By the time we get to eight events, the chance is well over a sixty-four thousand to one. In other words Letby might as well be put in prison straight away. The chances that she's innocent are far too small to take seriously.
Ten events? Well over a million to one. Anyone opposing the idea of bringing the police in long before this is totally callous, or they don't know these odds.
Fifteen? Well over a billion to one.

I have yet to meet any NHS doctor that shows empathy, towards patients, most are two faced and dishonest with patients. I spent 30 years living with the repeated symptoms of an undiagnosed congenital heart condition because of dismissive NHS medical staff who labelled my symptoms as entrenched story on my medical files in order to influence other doctors into diagnostic overshadowing my physical health needs, one doctor even informed the nurse that I was a waste of space and then went on to physically assault me whilst he was smirking to himself. What is shocking is the level and length the NHS will go to in order to cover up wrong doing with a complaint system that is bias in favour of NHS, hence no staff is held accountable and mistakes cannot be learnt from. AND we see this today a nurse murdering babies. It comes as no shock.

They will go back and reflect on every moment of her childhood, wondering what they did, blaming themselves. That is, if they ever come to terms with their daughter's crimes. They seem like they're in denial right now.

The 1st rule of medicine is you do no harm …. Everything we do is to improve the condition of the patient …EVERYTHING !!! To me this case is completely incomprehensible 😢….. I just really cannot believe she could do this ….. but before anyone takes me to task …I obviously know she did because of the evidence against her ……. and the subsequent verdict….. but this is what I categorically will never get my head around……. How she could even contemplate doing this …let alone carry it out ??? 🤦‍♀️😞….. Those poor babies and parents … it’s all just so heartbreaking 😢💔

It's rare that men commit serial murders and it's even more rare when women do it. The justice system measures risk to society as a whole. Letby is clearly a risk to society as a whole; hence the whole life tariff

Not a great interview as Ms Hartley-Brewer seems more interested in expressing her own views on the case than hearing those of Dr Holmes. It made it a bit of an arm-wrestle and a slightly uncomfortable watch. The most authoritative psychologist I have so far seen giving a professional opinion on motive was a young Asian guy on 5 News. He also said it was probably about 'power and control' or, perhaps, 'hatred'. I agree with him about "power and control". The drive for that is never far below the surface in even our most apparently benign behaviour is it? Disagree about 'hatred' as the possible motive though:- stable life with supportive parents in first world country to which she is indigenous; said country still dominated (numerically at least) by her 'own' group. Can't see any real scope for the systematic negative social interactions capable of engendering out-and-out misanthropy in a twenty-something.
Having now gotten past the initial 'mind-rape' shockingness of the case, and able to actually process it, I think part of the explanation for this is the society we live in.
Modern UK society has become one where - in the interests of generating economic growth - the only real crime in life is getting caught. Boris Johnson's antics in recent years might be the best illustrative example of what I mean. That created the environment for Letby to contemplate in gratifying her psychological needs in such a monstrous way because she felt confident she could get away with it. That she was more likely motivated by convenience and low risk than the inner compulsion to kill of the classic serial killer is evident in the absence of any disclosure that she showed criminal intent towards babies or other vulnerable persons in the two years between being being stood down from neo-natal care and her arrest - the police appear to have trawled every aspect of her adult years in microscopic detail seeking evidence so I think they would have noticed.
Millennials and subsequent generations live trivial social media oriented lives with commensurably superficial dopamine-hit goals. Most pertinently, they lack the inner life necessary to fully support a sense of emotional consequences independent of the sanctions of outside world. It is only wrong if you get caught and she didn't expect to. She did this because she could.

Elliott Rodger had deep-rooted issues with self-worth too and yet we all recognize him for the monster that he was and he didn't even kill babies, he killed adults.
Sympathy for this kind of atrocity should never be normalized and anyone with these inclinations should believe that committing anything this vile will result in severe ostracization and alienation; not a self-indulgent pity parade and a shoulder to cry on, which appears to be part of what motivated her in the first place. • @iguiste23
    @iguiste23 9 місяців тому +15

Spot on. The fact there's people saying the case is confusing, doesn't add up and that criminologists have said this, thought that. No they haven't we understand how sociopaths, psychopaths, narcissists and even empaths think and operate. It is only confusing and odd to the people who do not understand what a psychopath or serial killer truly is. It's all part of the game, act like an angel, fit into society and become a master at blending in while pulling the wool over the masses. Lucy Letby is to me not a full blown Psychopath if one at all, but is certainly borderline personality (BPD) to some degree and on the extreme side of the narcissistic personality type. She absolutely understands human emotion, she absolutely understands how to manipulate that and how to take advantage of social and psychological patterns in order for them to best suit her needs dependent on the situation. Narcissists are expert manipulators who often target empathic people as a way to blend in as others pass it off as oh well if an Empath accepts them they must be alright, wrong. Although I am still very much a rookie in terms of the Criminology field I am certainly no idiot and made this analysis of her from day one. I heard people saying we don't know she could be innocent, she is innocent she didn't do it. Nope I was convinced from the get go she had done it and she was wearing a mask which many fell for which is common. This experts analysis and psychology reading of her personality is 100% spot on and I see it in a lot of people who aren't killers but are certainly not very pleasant narcissists more prone to being anti-social and violent in small bouts but have regret which she shows none of. However she does understand emotions, enough to write down those notes admitting it. She has (BPD) not a full blown psychopath and was likely playing on it to try and manipulate the outcome which it didn't.

I agree that Lucy Letby is evil. Not only her actions but the shell of the person walking around. I doubt she even knows why she did it. But be sure she does not care. Her sadism was the terror and trauma the parents went through in her presence. Bathing a dead baby in front of its mother? What the hell!? She even followed their grief on their Facebook accounts long after she killed or maimed their babies . She’s no different than a male sadistic sexual serial killer who needs the screaming and terror of his victims in order to get excited, to feel whatever sadists feel when people are writhing in extreme pain. I’ve heard that violent serial killers get off on power and control. Any sexual interest is secondary. Lucy Letby is a rotten egg no different than Bundy or any sadistic serial killer. Everyone says how normal she was. I disagree. She wore a facade around her co-workers and roommates. She didn’t have any close friends. She never initiated going to functions. She went along when she had to in order to appear normal. I started comprehending sadism by reading the things you do not see written on the internet because they are truly SHOCKING to regular society. Once you realize the level of terror and pain these sadistic serial killers inflict upon their victims in order to get their jollies you realize how insane and/or broken they really are. I bought a book by an FBI Behavioral Scientist, Dr. Brucato called The New Evil. While it was hard to read it gave me insight on what Sadistic Serial Killers really are. It’s so outside the realm of what normal people think that when it happens we are dumbfounded. I’m so sorry these poor people crossed paths with this monster. There is no rehabilitation. She is missing the part of her brain that will ever allow her redemption. That’s exactly why these these sadists need to be removed from society. And we should NOT feel bad for them. They are broken and dangerous, period.

There have been several similar cases as this, only for those convicted to be pardoned, freed and compensated. There's only vague circumstantial evidence. Nobody saw Lucy Letby act out what she's charged with. No witnesses,no CTV,DNA apart from her being on duty when the babies died. These are the facts. So,it leaves many people unsettled. Did she or didn't she ? An Australian woman was freed from 20 years incarceration recently when science discovered her 4 children died from natural causes, not murder. A case in Holland also found the accused nurse not guilty having spent years in jail.

Just my theory, but I think her perverse behavior was possibly brought on by a gradual or sudden change in her brain (tumor/lession/biochemistry).

@@ianstrange5674 well, what's your theory? Can you explain how a woman has been convicted of murder without a shred of proof. Just circumstantial evidence. Our CJS is SUPPOSED to be based upon the presumption of innocence until PROVEN guilty. If there's proof - direct me to it. All sources are clear - circumstantial evidence only. She was convicted for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Why are people saying she dose not look like a killer. So then if she dose not look like a killer to you news reader then what dose a cereal killer look like then?

You can always spot a cereal killer by their demeanor in the mornings. They tend to use a sharp knife instead of a spoon and have generally glare hatefully at their breakfast before stabbing at it. Classic signs

Another possibility is that Lucy is innocent! I know that may seem crazy, on the face of it, but things are actually very murky. So, in what follows, I'm not claiming that Lucy is innocent. Instead, I'm just claiming that it is a real possibility that Lucy is innocent. Let me explain ...
So, what we know for certain is just that a bunch of babies died, without any apparent explanation, circumstantial evidence points to Lucy and she has been found guilty by a jury. What I want to show is that these 3 facts are consistent with Lucy's innocence in a way that is plausible (could be true without too much of a stretch). My theory (see below) has the advantage that it doesn't invoke any nefarious motives or conspiracies involving doctors, hospital management, police, judge or jury. It also explains why hospital management were so reluctant to act against Lucy and why it took so long for Lucy to finally be arrested and convicted.
I suggest that nurses in neonatal wards are in a unique position of great trust. They could rather easily, if they were so inclined, murder babies without leaving any hard evidence. They have the means and the opportunity, but one hopes that they don't have the motive. Anyway, I suggest that suspect nurses have to be able to be convicted on purely circumstantial evidence, or else they cannot be convicted at all and other potentially killer nurses would know that. Therefore, the burden of proof in Lucy's trial had to be significantly lower than in a regular murder trial. Basically, circumstances prevented Lucy from being given a fair trial. Her guilt didn't have to be proven beyond reasonable doubt. The justice system does not normally sacrifice a potentially innocent person for the sake of the greater good, but cases like this could be an exception, given that the stakes are so very high, with the fragile lives of newborn babies at stake. The judge may have directed the jury to a guilty verdict, or at least refrained from directing the jury away from a guilty verdict and just let "child abuse hysteria" decide the case. I think I'm correct in saying that Lucy's eventual arrest and trial wasn't as a result of any new incriminating evidence having been uncovered. Instead, it was just a reassessment of the existing circumstantial evidence. There seems to have been a protracted debate, behind the scenes, over whether or not to proceed against Lucy on the basis of that circumstantial evidence. On the one hand, she had to be convicted to deter any other potential killer nurses, given that hard evidence is very hard to come by in these cases. On the other hand, they were effectively condemning a well liked 33 year old nurse, who may very well have been innocent of any crime, to a trial that pretty much had to find her guilty. A true ethical dilemma?

There should be CCTV on every neonatal ward asap!
At least it there would be camera evidence if god forbid something like this happened again.
