You may already know this from the many comments, but I would like to add one more thing about Kiyomizu-dera .
In the old days, Kiyomizu-dera did not have as much of a drop-off as it does now. (The topography was almost completely different due to its long history and construction.) So the danger was not as great as the view we see now. Still, the success rate was low.......
