My elementary school had a rule where you couldn't wear anything with the name or logo of a cigarette or alcohol brand. My brother was deployed overseas with the military. I should have asked him to bring me back a T-shirt in Arabic or Japanese (he was stationed in Japan and Bahrain most of the time) with the name of a beer or cigarette company from one of those countries. This was the early 90's pre internet and no one would have been any wiser. A lot of kids at that school had deployed older siblings or cousins who brought them things in different languages. I could have told them "Oh, my brother said "Kirin" is just a soda pop company that's popular over there in Japan". It was a rural school practically in the middle of nowhere in the early 90's, fresh out of the 80's with no internet access so the teacher couldn't punch in "Kirin" and find out it's actually a Japanese liquor.
On picture day, girls have to wear sweaters/cardigans because if your shoulders were showing, you got dress coded. Me and my friends joked about this during lunch by saying stuff like “Shoulders! In my school, there's a different dress code for girls and for bois. Girls: No sleeveless tops, no shorts or skirts that aren't below the knee, you need to wear a shirt that covers your butt if you're wearing leggings. Bois: ummm...
All these stories about dress codes, while I didn't have them. I lived in the Netherlands, where you get "just don't wear nazi or super offensive things". Showing up in the shortest pants you could find and a tank top during summer was fine. I guess because it was only warm enough to wear those 2 days a year. Maybe also because we did not have air conditioning, just radiators and windows. We all had to go by bike as well, so if you don't freeze or sweat to death, really anything was fine. 9 months a year I would wear scarfs and boots, just like all other girls. Sometimes 2 scarfs.

as a dutchie, i can confirm! i see weird clothws at my school sometimes but it sounds better than being forced out of wearing things you like for the majority of the week... culture shock is that you?
I know right. Ok in my school(going to 6th grade this year p.s thank you 🙏 corona) in the 5th grad e the girls were not allowed to wear shirts with holes on the sleeves or tank tops(I’m not that mad because I understand people not wanting to smell sweaty kids and boys who used to much body spray/cologne) but I didn’t understand the cut sleeves anyone else?
that remains me one time this girl flicked water in my face for accidentally poking her shirt with a marker and the teacher was like “it’s your fault!”
So here is the story, so I’m a male and not really popular... so of course I got scolded a lot easier, I bet it was because the teacher was scared of the aggressive kids, and once, I violated the dress code rules, I wore activity shorts (or basketball shorts) above my knees. That, my friend, was true terror for the rest of the day.
*StOrY tImE!* I went to a private Christian school and we weren’t allowed to dye our hair but It all changed in my 5th year (grade 5 for all you Americans). I had gotten the ends of my hair dyed, most of the teachers didn’t really care but there was this one teacher who wasn’t even for my year group but came up to me basically everyday and told me to dye my hair back to its natural colour or cut it because it “wasn’t allowed” . I never did do anything about my hair but when my mother found out how rude she was being she got so mad at her it was so funny.
Lol, hats and hoodies are banned at my school, but we can wear short shorts as long as they’re not TOO short, and your parents have to approve. My dress code is pretty chill, and we have a hat day sometimes.
Nobody is ever gonna read this but... I didn't even know school dress codes existed. I know that kids in the UK have to wear uniforms, but I thought everywhere else you could just wear whatever. Every school I've ever been to was completely fine as long as you didn't show up naked. Edit: Well, I guess people did find and read my comment among 6,5k comments at the time of posting
Back on this side of the river pretty much all schools have uniforms. Private, public, doesn't matter, all have uniforms. And only some high-schools don't. So, yeah. Lucky.
A girl broke her arm at my school and they gave her ice, she went through the about a quarter of the day in pain until she got home. She came back to school 3 days later wearing a cast.
My middle school banned all colors. You could only wear solid black and/or white. Your glasses have red frame? Go get black or white frames. You're wearing a nice piece of jewelry? Make sure it's silver or black. No gold colored jewelry allowed. Want to paint your nails? Only if it's clear. Photographer asks school to allow students to wear natural colors to better complement with the backgrounds. Nope, everyone was forced to wear black or white. This last one was what made them get rid of it and for good reason. Your gym teacher catch you wearing colored underwear? You will get scolded, but they will turn a blind eye. One girl was on her period and one of the female teachers who was PSYCHOTICLY strict with the rules, walked in, saw her and reported her because her pad leaked and there was a bit of red on her panties. The principal was going to expel her when her parents contacted the school board. The principal was fired and a regular dress code was instated for the following year.
I’m surprised the gold bit didn’t cause problems yet, I know multiple people who can only wear gold jewelry otherwise they’ll have an allergic reaction
My middle school dress code was: "If your parents let you wear it, it's fine." So many croptops and miniskirts. Update: I looked on the school's website, and they have a dresscode now. Nothing crazy, but still enough to be stupid. Classic "don't distract the boys" bullshit.
My school is so strict about dress code everything has to be plain, our skirts have to be below the knees, our shorts have to be below the knees, our shirts have to be past the waist, our socks have to be above the ankles, our hair ALWAYS has to be tied up, our shoes have to be black, I once wore a singlet under a croptop and stockings under my short shorts nah DRESSCODE I once wore gray shoes nah DRESSCODE I once had my hair down on free dress day nah DRESSCODE Too many detentions for this kid to handle
missalilly M you just saw this video??I’m a mega fan! I’ve watched since the begging well I watched the 3rd video and then the 1st and 2nd so yeah I’ve been here for very long
My highschool dresscode is no nudity. That's it. No other restrictions. Weed patterns on your socks? A-ok! Swear words written on your shirt? Might get a teacher to laugh.
U are sooooooo lucky u don't have how easy u have it we have to wear a full school uniform school bow ties on girls and a school shirt tie blazer skirt sock's that cover ur knees and black school shoes

I can actually relate with having to pick my own outfit, whenever my family and I are going somewhere, even the simplest of places, my mind overthinks on what I should wear as if I’m going to a party and it’s actually kinda annoying. But the funny thing is I only overthink on the weekends and not on the weekdays when I have school.

I also overthink what I'm going to wear when going places. I personally love having my clothes in a specific color pallet or a specific theme, it's to the point where I'll bring a fidget toy or some other item just because it matched my outfit. I still don't quite know why I do this, possible reasons being: I'm just a very detail-oriented person, character design is something love doing (and one of the only things I'm good at when it comes to drawing), the inate human desire to have things look nice, maybe a confluence of all these factors? Who knows... (sorry this got so long btw)

W a t
So here is the story, so I’m a male and not really popular... so of course I got scolded a lot easier, I bet it was because the teacher was scared of the aggressive kids, and once, I violated the dress code rules, I wore activity shorts (or basketball shorts) above my knees. That, my friend, was true terror for the rest of the day.

I went to a private Christian school and we weren’t allowed to dye our hair but It all changed in my 5th year (grade 5 for all you Americans).
