@@danielward7008 They completely reinvented themselves in the early 90's, pretty much becoming a different band, just with the same name. First they became just a duo, then DJ Darren Emerson joined and they immersed themselves in the new club culture. This is a great pop rock song though - you can see the talent and potential they had in the 80's.

Loved this song ever since 1988! Was a huge hit in Australia and was popular in the US where it was featured in an episode of "Miami Vice." My understanding is Karl Hyde & Rick Smith regard this Underworld as a separate entity to the one who emerged with 'Dubnobasswithmyheadman' which possibly makes them one of the only groups with two debut albums..

It’s actually a great story that I only really learned about in the last 10 years. I was into Underworld since ‘94 but I only read about their 80’s career in magazines, there was no internet back then.
Karl was working as a session musician at Prince’s studio in Minneapolis. Rick came back to Essex and realised the new dance scene was blowing up and he wanted to make that music. They were both well into their 30’s and teamed up with younger Darren Emerson, watching him DJ at Milk Bar. The rest is history!

As an 80s video and apart from the format, this has not dated at all. As a film school student I found great inspiration with this one take Steadicam choreography. Exceptional operating by the cinematographer, and with impeccable timing, this should really go down as one of the greatest music videos of all time. Raw analog, no VFX except for the picture in picture elements. Performance by the band is spot on and the sneering by the guitarist at the camera is classic and subtle humour. If only videos were still made like this.
