The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary HD

The rock classic, recorded at Olympic studios in Barnes and produced by Steve Brown. This was recorded and released as a stand-alone single but it was included on the band's next album, 'Love'. Though it spent months in the UK charts, and was one of the best selling tracks of the year, it actually never reached the top ten. It was the last release to feature the original Cult drummer Nigel Preston.

This was played at my wedding in 1987 Every man and his dog was up dancing! Sadly my lovely darling wife Teresa passed away in 2009. This will always remind me of what a great day that was. Forever missed, forever loved!

Ian Ashbury, One of the only dudes on the planet that can pull off a flamboyant vampire pirate look.
Fucking right!😂😂😂
Ian Astbury. Adam Ant could have pulled it off back in the day.

Sound of my youth
38 years ago, OMG I remember when it 1st popped up on TOTPs and the Young Ones TV show.

This is a great song to be "the song". Here's to all the great dads.
It's a great Dad's song.... one of my favourites and hopefully will pass it on to my son like your dad did to you.. very sad for you and feel your loss chin up and keep cherishing them memories
It's one hell of a song. I was just being born when this song came out. It definitely is one of those songs you wish there was an ∞ setting on the volume dial =) We need a rebirth of rock in the next decade-a neo-rock and roll that pays homage to this remarkable genre. Truly talented musicians wrote epics like these, like Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven or Pink Floyd & countless other towering talents back when music had a soul and heart like no other. =)
God I want our triumphalism of the of the days before y2k back. It seemed like the world was becoming a bitchin place where we could do anything and _we could sell sanctuary_
@Sample Rate we definitely did keep it! Amazing set up
Seriously. One of the greatest songs ever written!
No words to describe how cool this shit is. Ian Astbury had a mile of swagger. This used to be one of my driving and jamming tunes in the 80s, and it still packs a punch to this day.
i never knew why they were not huge in the united states. they were only played on alt radio. at least where i was. in concert they were fucking huge! you are right this song is a banger!
I used to rock out to this song in the 80s. We didn't have MTV, but there was a UHF station called U68 that used to play the indie stuff like this.❤
The Cult were criminally underrated.
Dude, There is a plethora of a-fricken-mazing music made outside the States. New Zealand, Australian, English, European, even Canadian. Once you go beyond commercial radio, The quality and quantity is astounding.

What I’ve always loved about The Cult was they bridged rock, punk, goth rock, and elements new wave, being arguably one of the earliest alternative rock band. Really brilliant and a true classic in the truest sense of the word
You nailed it
Really well said !!!
This is one of the great "postmodern" moments: all these signs of pop music history getting mixed and matched, stirred in the blender. Jim Morrison fronting Boney M with a touch of Ozzy not fearing the reaper, and a sneaky side of the Cure.
Well said cause I'm an old school die hard and don't listen to much made after about 1979 but my son loved the cult and got me hooked.

It is 2:04am on my side of the world right now too. I am not sober and I've been listening to all kinds of sh*t tonight. That's how the Cult pulls you in, my night owl friend.
Rochelle Eskue 2:25 on a Sunday morning and I'm loving this!
One of the most underated frontman...what a great band
Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger thought Mr. Astbury was okay enuff to front "The Doors of the Twenty-first Century" - Jon Densmore, not so much
Axl stole his style?

how i miss those days.. we were alive and nothing but great music filled our lives!!!
I'm 74 and loved the feel good music of the 80s.
We just saw them in Vegas back in Oct. '23. This album came out when I was a junior in high school. A whole new subculture was born in Fort Worth. You had to be really down to understand The Cult man.
Born in 1972, lives through the 80s and listen to music all the time, and imagine, discover this gem this summer at the age of 50 years old. Can´t understand how I could miss this song. Been played loud every day since this summer, and will continue to do so!
I’m 50 and got to see them live for the 1st time last September 🤘🤘🤘
At least you found it.
when played with massive speakers it's awesome, fantastic to wreck around the floor
1975 & discovered it last year, it's become a favourite of mine & my 13 yr old daughter 🤘
I loved all this alt music born in 76. I only caught this song playing old school GTA. Was either in the San Andreas or Vice city soundtrack I think.
