So much great music from the 80s. When this video aired on MTV the world stopped for a moment in awe. Amazing tune and the women in this video put it over the top. RIP Robert Palmer. Gone way too soon.
Awe is the best word. I remember a 35 year old coworker talking about it when the video came out saying the women were beautiful, white face, the makeup, black outfits, etc. She was so hyped and when I saw it, I was stunned. Great song and video.
Question, please: I recall this as being one of two songs that defined 80s MTV. The other was "Beautiful World" by DEVO. Are there any others that were as prominent (?)
saw robert palmer live in new york perform this, probably the most mesmerizing show i've ever seen and this song was off the charts in intensity, just brilliant. the dancing might be better in "simply irresistible" but this song rocks. his passing is a great loss to music, RIP robert.

The unbelievers will be left behind to endure the antichrist, Man killing demons, and a plethora of ungodly , unimaginable disasters and horrors. Robert Palmer wasn't underrated, he was a star. Sometimes I'm not sure if people understand what underrated means. Robert was a star for sure. Pitty he left us so early....
I don't think people realize today how visually groundbreaking this video was. It set off the whole fashion/front light/flash like aesthetic in videos that dominated for 40 years and counter-influenced back to fashion etc.
One of the more logical comments on here. I never thought shit of this song - just another pop song, yay - but the 80's WAS a great time and there was a lot of great music. Sadly, this wasn't one of them but I digress.
Only in the 80s could you pull off something so simple, and yet be so classic and timeless. Cuz we're still here today, and this is 100x better than any of the crap out there today.
Robert Palmer captured something very special here..... there actually is something very special about how the "girls" look here....its just total magic! and this track is timeless also ....sad about Robert....god blessX
Robert Palmer is so sexy in the way he presents himself not because of the women around him its because his sturdy calmness while he tells it we a must be addicted to love.
I met Robert very early in his career. I was working at a radio station and he was an artist coming from England. I chatted with him on the air and I was amazed at how much he knew about American rock and roll music. I was delighted to see him become famous and successful a few years later.
I JUST tapped on this.. Not surprised thati had left a comment.. FIVE YEARS.. ago! No follow-up responses so I'm reaching out to YOU. Amazing that your interested in 1985..🤙
Robert's father was Royal Navy and Robert listened to American rock on the Voice of America and Radio Free Europe broadcasts when the family was living in Malta. His father bought Robert a tape recorder as a birthday present and Robert sang into it--and was not displeased with what came out of it when he played it back. The rest is history.
@@Falconlibrary Daniel, Mr. Palmer was a delightful gentleman to visit with. I remember discussing his current musical influences at the time with him. On that occasion in 1975-1976, he had come to America to work with a regional US East Coast rock band known as a Little Feat, a band which featured guitarist and vocalist Lowell George. He also was on a promotional tour for his album, "Sneakin Sally Through the Alley". I told him how much I loved his album and I think he was pleased to hear it. Cheers!
Great music, sharp dresser. We lost a great musician in 2003. "His style crossed musical genres over a long period of time. Robert Palmer never had an enormous following, but he was highly respected both for the songs he sang, and the sincere, yet often understated way in which he sang them."
Classic, in every way, the simple but punchy beat, the strong rhythm, dirty guitar, lyrics that repeat but never annoy, the longevity and genius of this track is that the lyrics aren't as catchy as the rhythm, you get fed up of catchy lyrics after a while they can start to grate and annoy - but here the rhythm, the beat, the grungy dirty guitar are the catch and that never grows old or annoying, just gets into you, grabs you and drives you, classic!
One of my favorites! This song instantly reminds me of good times in the 80's. So very fun to sing in Karaoke bars. The Weird Al version is incredibly funny and so well written to fit the tune.
A solid gold classic. We lost him too soon. R I P Robert, keep on giving them a good time up there in heaven. Such a suave gent, always surrounded by beautiful women!
The guitar girl who licks her lips is Ellie and she's a good friend of ours. She's from the midwest US and was attending Oxford on a student visa when she was approached by the director for this video. She said it was the most fun she ever had skipping school.
I thought this was the coolest song in the 80's and I loved it! And I also thought that Robert Palmer was the sexiest, coolest and most sharp dressed man in the rock and roll industry!
This takes me back. Growing up as a kid in the 80s this was one of the coolest videos. Thank you mr Palmer for this timeless classic. May you rock out in the heavens with the other legends. R.I.P.

If only TV’s in the 80’s had the same quality that they do now…this would’ve easily been the most requested video of all time. Props, Mr. Palmer.
Who else wishes Robert Palmer was still alive!
When MTV did this crazy thing and played music videos. Good times.
MTV... 1 channel.. .Zero commercials... music videos 24/7!
He died very young. He is very missed here! I will always enjoy listening to his music. RIP RP 😘💝
2019
me!
I remeber those times. Was simply impossible to stop watching.
I agree, I wish he was still alive.Great singer ☺️
So much great music from the 80s. When this video aired on MTV the world stopped for a moment in awe. Amazing tune and the women in this video put it over the top. RIP Robert Palmer. Gone way too soon.
Yep, shania twain copied it too much success.
Awe is the best word. I remember a 35 year old coworker talking about it when the video came out saying the women were beautiful, white face, the makeup, black outfits, etc. She was so hyped and when I saw it, I was stunned. Great song and video.
Still Relevant EYE and EAR CANDY!
My 5 year old son was mesmerized!!!
As soon as I got home he took me to wait for it to play again.
Question, please: I recall this as being one of two songs that defined 80s MTV. The other was "Beautiful World" by DEVO. Are there any others that were as prominent (?)
Saw him in concert! If only music was this good today.
Robert Palmer is a legend.
R.I.P and God bless you
A legend indeed 👍👍👍👍👍
Coolness , just coolness ….
Amen
He died way too young.
Still gold to this day! Back when there was the "M" in MTV.
always well beyond brilliant ... created a massive void ... Blessings RP !!!
now there should be an S 😂
Once upon a time, there was Music on MTV instead of pregnant teenagers.
Wow when MTV had music not PTW n wannabe whiggers!!!
35 years ago, May 3, 1986 this was number 1 on the billboard top 100.
35!
Same age that Robert was in the video.
Remember that very well
Don't forget Casey Kasem's American Top 40👍
@@darringraham2613 Here in the UK it was the Radio One top 40 with Tommy Vance or Bruno Brookes.
Few weeks later I was walking the stage being my hs diploma
A song is colorized with lyrics and melody. Positive pure energy
one of the most, if the not THE most, iconic videos of the 1980's.
saw robert palmer live in new york perform this, probably the most mesmerizing show i've ever seen and this song was off the charts in intensity, just brilliant. the dancing might be better in "simply irresistible" but this song rocks. his passing is a great loss to music, RIP robert.
Jesus is coming soon to RAPTURE His Believers.
Don't be left behind! The unbelievers will be left behind to endure the antichrist, Man killing demons, and a plethora of ungodly , unimaginable disasters and horrors.
To avoid that horrible 7 years known as The Great Tribulation according to scriptures;
⁹If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
All these volcanoes and earthquakes are signs in the Bible that Jesus spoke of before his second coming. The King is coming soon! 🙌🏻
May The Lord God bless you
Robert Palmer. Class act.

Give me a guy that dressed like Robert any day, than the knobs that get around nowadays with their pants hanging off their arse.
No-one wants to see their manky underpants.
Robert Palmer was totally underrated. I loved his style and his timeless music, especially this song.
Blackjack, 21!!!
Gorgeous.
He could sing
Robert Palmer wasn't underrated, he was a star. Sometimes I'm not sure if people understand what underrated means. Robert was a star for sure. Pitty he left us so early....
He was huge, lol. In the 70s and 80s
I don't think people realize today how visually groundbreaking this video was. It set off the whole fashion/front light/flash like aesthetic in videos that dominated for 40 years and counter-influenced back to fashion etc.
A living Pat Nagel painting, as if orchestrated by Michael Mann
If you missed the 80's, It was a decade of constant badass music!! Regardless of genre, we all had groups, that made us awesome!!
One of the more logical comments on here. I never thought shit of this song - just another pop song, yay - but the 80's WAS a great time and there was a lot of great music. Sadly, this wasn't one of them but I digress.
Damn right
@@lashardawashington1625 Sho' ya right, nice lady!😎😎 Finna' do me some SOS BAND of course I'm gonna take my time & do it right!😎😎

Robert Palmer sure was an entertainer. Smooth.
Only in the 80s could you pull off something so simple, and yet be so classic and timeless. Cuz we're still here today, and this is 100x better than any of the crap out there today.
1,000x
One of the greatest pop songs in history.
Robert Palmer captured something very special here..... there actually is something very special about how the "girls" look here....its just total magic! and this track is timeless also ....sad about Robert....god blessX
truth I saw Robert Plant and Jimmy Page when they played with the Egyptian Orchestra magic
Look up artist Patrick Nagel
Yes he is very talented and all the bands he's played with two show great talent
truth i was so upset about his passing
Robert Palmer is so sexy in the way he presents himself not because of the women around him its because his sturdy calmness while he tells it we a must be addicted to love.
Robert Palmer, the James Bond of 80's rock.
Spot on
Nice one "the 007 of rock music" I gotta remember to use that line next time I'm refering to a kick ass singer/group 😁🤣👍👍..!!
🏴🥃🥃🥃yes 🧐
is he alive?
Well said. Well played!
Brilliant song created by a fantastic musician who was taken from us far too soon...R.I.P. Robert...
Cheers!
Simply GREAT MUSIC!!!!!
Whats amazing is that you met anyone who became famous! I've lived in LA, San Fran, Nashville never met anyone who tried to become a star and made it.
This deserves at least 1 billion more views.
Classic.

Great music, sharp dresser. We lost a great musician in 2003. "His style crossed musical genres over a long period of time.
Robert Palmer never had an enormous following, but he was highly respected both for the songs he sang, and the sincere, yet often understated way in which he sang them."
ROBERT PALMER, THE MOST ELEGANT SINGER OF ALL TIME, J'ADORE, OH OUI
🤘🤘🤘✊✊✊✊♥️♥️♥️
Classic, in every way, the simple but punchy beat, the strong rhythm, dirty guitar, lyrics that repeat but never annoy, the longevity and genius of this track is that the lyrics aren't as catchy as the rhythm, you get fed up of catchy lyrics after a while they can start to grate and annoy - but here the rhythm, the beat, the grungy dirty guitar are the catch and that never grows old or annoying, just gets into you, grabs you and drives you, classic!
Definitely one of his best songs, and definitely one of the best videos ever created! R.I.P. Robert Palmer.
Robert Palmer without a doubt one of the greatest of all time. A legend. Incomparable! The guy was a walking and singing flawless gem!
Greatest and way under rated tree lyrics were perfect for that time love them remind of alot of issues in the , 80s
Robert was one of the smoothest singers ever.
Wonderful song RIP Robert
One of my favorites! This song instantly reminds me of good times in the 80's. So very fun to sing in Karaoke bars. The Weird Al version is incredibly funny and so well written to fit the tune.
You know you've truly arrived when there's a Weird Al Yankovic version of one of your songs.
A solid gold classic. We lost him too soon. R I P Robert, keep on giving them a good time up there in heaven. Such a suave gent, always surrounded by beautiful women!
Robert Palmer was and remains forever as the James Bond of Rock & Roll. Rest in Peace Robert you'll be well remembered.
Yes, he was sexy, savory, classy. The absolute 007 of rock n roll.
uh, no no, the 007 of Rock n' Roll is Bryan Ferry

The guitar girl who licks her lips is Ellie and she's a good friend of ours. She's from the midwest US and was attending Oxford on a student visa when she was approached by the director for this video. She said it was the most fun she ever had skipping school.
Ellie was the one who was grooving the most to it! What’s she doing now?
