As a German, I was grown up and living close to Grafenwöhr Training Area and on weekends I was often in close contact with US GIs. Together we enjoyed life so much. Radar Love was one of the songs we loved. Then there was Thin Lizzy, Nazareth, Frank Zappa or AC/DC all live at the Hemmerlein Halle. What a great time, I do never want to have missed.
What an incredible time you must have had back then Herr Glawe. The music and the good times should be cherished forever... I'm glad you do. Greetings from North Carolina btw... _Deutschland Über Alles_
I'm 42, I've been driving big trucks since 18. This song was always on dad's radio, it will always be on mine. I was in the mountains of virginia in-between hurricanes. No speed limits no rules. This song came on . We were doing 100+.
In between what hurricanes? I know first hand there ain't any hurricanes going through Virginia and DEFINITELY NOT 2! 😂 I don't get what you're talking about. I also know that there are speed limits in Virginia. Especially for truckers going down the mountains. Good grief sir what are you smoking.
I had been driving for about 5 hours going thru Indiana on my way to Milwaukee in 1975. It was late at night, dark and boring. I had a 1966 black Corvette Stingray. Radar Love came on the radio and I had new life. Wide awake and picked up my speed considerably. Always remember that moment. Was alert for the last 4 hours of driving. Great driving song for a 4 speed Hurst.
I'm 67 'n change now. I 'member being a teenager racing a train to cross the tracks before her with my 1966 Dark Burgundy Pontiac Parisienne 283 8 cylinder. This tune powered me on.
I call songs like these "perfect songs." It's completely original. Riffs could be sampled, bass, drums, all of it. You can't duplicate it better than the original. Just a cool, timeless song. Sorry to hear about Kooymans. ALS is a horrible disease. I've seen it up close and personally. Prayers for him.
I was born in 1954. I remember hearing this driving in my old beat up 1967 Ford listing to this alone. Now I have a nice car and I am still listening to this driving alone. PEACE
I was born in 1955, so grown up in the best time of music. I still love the Oldies 1960, 1970. THANKS that I could listen to it on UA-cam ever and ever. I'm so glad.
@The Miss Well back in the day if you were driving and there was a little white powder around and Radar LOVE was playing on the radio a speeding ticket was a definite possibility. Yes I still listen to it, got it on my gym tape 💪 😎
I'm not a bass player, yet I KNOW that Rickenbackers ARE AWESOME! They remind me of the guy in this song (Rinus Gerritsen), Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Cliff Burton (Metallica), etc and THESE GUYS' BANDS ARE WORTH LISTENING TO! :)
@mianki100 Yes, then you go into the washroom and catch a glimpse in the mirror and wonder who the hell that old person is! In my heart I am 16 forever…
I'm 66 and can remember my mother cursing me out for playing my music to load through my head phones I had tyhis and several other songs on a tape I listened to all the time.
I could not keep from speeding when this song would come on the radio back then. I had a '67 Firebird with lots of horsepower to spare. I was in the USMC. I had a tall strawberry blond girlfriend. Life was great. Sure would like to go back.
Right. Pure talent! Pure joy! My high school boyfriend and I would sing this at the top of our lungs when it came on! Driving through Boston with the top (convertible car) down.......then back to our quiet suburban town!

Every comment here is absolutely true. TS was an underrated (by the money men) genius. I first saw him in a small pub in London, after hitching from South Wales. Don't know who was more impressed, him or me. I met my hero. Next time, he travelled to my hometown and played in the Lyceum Tavern. And he remembered me!! RIP TS McPHEE. XXXXX❤❤
I'm 62yr and this is the first time I've seen this video. This is a prime example of less is more. It's an amazing song from an amazing band. The song is timeless and will live on forever. Thank you to everybody involved who brought this song to the world and inspired people like myself to become musicians. Peace & Good Trips.
I am sorry to tell if you dont know yet that George Kooymans the guitarist has ALS disease (muscle disease if i say right) suddenly and cant play the guitar anymore. They had to decide to stop at once with the band not long ago in '22, it was a shock for them, for us, they were still going strong and they are friends all of their lifes. As a Dutch guy it was so normal they were there all of my life, the band was just as old as the Stones are, and long before Radar Love they made albums and their hitsongs were often on fm radio in the Netherlands. I was born some years before they started in '62 or '63, so you could say they were there all of my life offcourse it is sad and i feel much for George who was very important for all they did. Not forgetting to say that Eelco Gelling is on this video as their extra guitarist, was one of Hollands best bluesplayers (he was also asked for John Mayalls band long ago) we had and have because he's also still here, but had some personal problems like all of us could get. But he is on their live album LIVE 1977 with also Radar Love that is 11.45 minutes, i just took a look.
I've loved this song since it first came out when I was 14yo. Still do to this day. An all time classic that will never be forgotten . . . but, a mate bought the album thinking they must be "an amazing band" if Radar Love was an indication of their talent. Upon listening to the album the first [and last] time, a group of mates all agreed "You should have bought the single" [of Radar Love] Golden Earring were a one hit wonder.
❤ me here from 1974. Was a great time with the music. All upside down with politics and people. However, im here. I survived. At 64 I'm appreciating this music and these 4ward thinking individuals 😀😀
Thumpin drums, crackin bass. What a timeless song. The whole thumping rhythm is spot on pop. This band is/was very much underestimated... As time goes on it has just got better and better.. LUVVIT...
Golden Earring lasted from the 70's to 2021 when the band decided to retire because George was diagnosed with ALS and couldn't play guitar anymore. I can only think of a few bands that still perform from the 70's with most of the original line up. Aerosmith, KISS, The Rolling Stones, Chicago.....I think that's about it. Why Golden Earring isn't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame yet is a shame.
Back in the early 90’s my best friend and I went to Amsterdam mainly to enjoy the “coffee” shops. While we were there Golden Earing played a FREE concert in a city park! Listening to them and talking to some of the locals was by far the highlight of my trip!
Go down The Kinks album rabbit hole from 1968 to 1983 and you won't want to return to the surface! The musicianship and lyrical insights on society are unbeaten.
Add this to the list of songs where the band looks NOTHING like you thought they would when you FINALLY watch one of their videos!!! GOLDEN EARING has ALWAYS rocked my life, but seeing this performance make them even MORE AWESOME!!!
I had no idea until now. Been loving this song for a long long time and I am shocked I’ve never seen these dudes before, they kick ass and are just perfect Sexy Rock Stars
I first heard this song when I was around 7 in “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. I learned how to play the guitar, harmonica, add incredible soulful vocals, as well as I began collecting vinyl records in middle school and high school. I love the constant bass; yet it sounds as though the beat is growing stronger. My favorite band since elementary school has been Cream, it still is but they share the limelight with Badfinger.

Your memory took me back. I'm from Philly. My mom would drive so fast on that highway thru NJ to the shore, with the top down. And my mom blasted rock music. We stayed at the Bali High in Wildwood. Take care
The drumming in this song is epic. Not that it's so difficult. It's just so badass and perfect.
Caesar zuiderwijk. The best drummer ever
Bass is perfect.Nice riff and not so easy.
You don't know to be John Bonham or Neil Peart to sound good on the drums. Even Ringo with his simple beats and well timed fills sounded good

I'm 42, I've been driving big trucks since 18. This song was always on dad's radio, it will always be on mine. I was in the mountains of virginia in-between hurricanes. No speed limits no rules. This song came on . We were doing 100+.
Epic!
@odenirongiant it was 04 or 05. We were in-between 2 massive storms that were going up the coast. And I only smoke the real sticky icky

One of the defining rock anthems of the early 70s. Moontan one of the most underrated albums of all time. Talented band, great live.
Just found this song again brilliant.x. Joan Chalmers

Great album. Love Candy's Going Bad.
This song sounds just as good in 2024 as it did when it first came out way back in 1973.
I'm blessed to have seen them at Folsom Field in Boulder in 1975. Best day ever!
I never saw Golden Earring. Everyone knows Radar Love. But I never really got into the band until fairly recently.

I really wish that the bands of today would create music like this. The music of 60’s,70’s,80’s and very early 90’s is what I like.
There still are bands that can (and do) create very good music. The problem is finding them and getting them exposure.
Incredible musicians. Timeless. The drum solo is legendary.
And he’s doing it with traditional grip.

How about 'Ebony Eyes?'
Upon listening to the album the first [and last] time, a group of mates all agreed "You should have bought the single" [of Radar Love]

One of the Top 10 all time drivetime songs
Golden Earring lasted from the 70's to 2021 when the band decided to retire because George was diagnosed with ALS and couldn't play guitar anymore. I can only think of a few bands that still perform from the 70's with most of the original line up. Aerosmith, KISS, The Rolling Stones, Chicago.....I think that's about it. Why Golden Earring isn't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame yet is a shame.
Rollin Stones
They probably needed a few more hits. Still.
It's not a shame, it's a crime.
I agree
Technically Rolling Stones isn’t quite the original line, is it?
Back in the early 90’s my best friend and I went to Amsterdam mainly to enjoy the “coffee” shops. While we were there Golden Earing played a FREE concert in a city park! Listening to them and talking to some of the locals was by far the highlight of my trip!
