Roland is the straight man in Borderlands where everyone else is crazy and wacky. The point behind his character is his contrast with everything else. He is the big serious soldier amongst a world of psychos. Having Kevin Hart play him makes zero sense. Cate Blanchett might have been able to pull off Lilith 20 years ago, but she is like twice the age of the character. Lilith was 22 during Borderlands 1. I love Jack Black, but what little comes across in the trailer doesn't sound nor act like Claptrap. Since it's a completely animated character they should have stuck with one of the original voice actors. Ariana as Tiny Tina I have no clue yet. Tiny Tina in live action will be a delicate balance to find. Don't want another live action Ed from Cowboy Bebop situation after all. Jamie Lee Curtis' issue is similar to the issue with Cate Blanchett's casting just not quite to the same extreme degree. At least Tannis is a scientist not a warrior so her being over 50 isn't as much of a distraction. Florian as Krieg at least looks the part. We'll have to see how the acting goes. Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxie. Just as bad as Cate Blanchett. Janina Gavankar as General Knoxx. Do I really need to say anything? Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus. Might work. Charles Babalola. The opposite issue of so many of the castings. Why is he so young? Maybe costume/make-up and CGI can help. All in all I would say way more misses than hits with the casting and calling the few hits hits is being very generous. Also if this is supposed to be a shot at a borderlands cinematic universe why would you choose so many way older actors. Not only are they way too old for the roles already if you want more movies down the line are we supposed to have 70+ year olds playing people in their 20s and 30s? Are they supposed to be playing this role say 10 years down the line if this were actually going to catch on?
@Blades Supposedly it's set in a post BL3 AU universe. However if this is the case those all seem like stupid choices. It would be like if they released the Logan movie before any of the live action X-Men movies. The reason that one worked so well is that we had been growing with that version of wolverine for over a decade and a half. It'd be a terrible entry point for the live action wolverine. If it's indeed meant to be an AU post BL3 world it feels like something made targeting the big fans of the games that are up to date on everything rather than also appealing to outsiders entering into the Borderlands universe.

I don't necessarily disagree with you as someone who loves Cate Blanche also ever since she played Galadriel. but she is 53 years old and I honestly feel like she's a little too old for a role like this and it should have been given to maybe more upcoming actress to give someone else a chance.

As for Kreig, I WISH Jack Black would voice him instead, which shouldn't be a problem since you'd never see his face anyways. Richard Steven Horvitz (Invader Zim) would've been a great voice for Claptrap. If they'd ever put Brick in another Borderland movie, I'd wish it'd be Dave Bautista, he'd have the body type and the humor to fit the character.

Ill forever be boggled by their casting choices for some of the women. Like these characters in the games were super hormone inducing to some people so casting fixed up grandmas in those roles just took what little desire to the see the movie i had and removed it. They are great actors but these were not their roles appearance wise.

Its just a matter of the character expression being off. As much as it sounds a bit weird to say out loud, a big part of Lillith visual expression is that of a confident, magical, young and sexy woman. Just like her having the wrong hair color, her being 20-30 years off simply does not match the character design. For example, as much as most people can agree that Chris Hemsworth is an attractive 40 year old man, he should not be cast to play a 18 year old character, simply because he does look like one. Tannis has similar issues. Actress is much too old, but the issue is lessened by Tannis having a design that does not rely as much on her age in how she expresses herself. Kevin Hart is crazy mistaking, both in terms of physical size but also in terms of the type of charisma we expect from the character.
I completely understand the trying to get it to market to the widest audience possible with popular actors cast. That being said this is 100% not for actual diehard fans like myself, and that's fine. It may bring some new people into the games? Awesome, keep it going. But my lord personally it looks like absolute dogshit from the perspective of a fan that's been playing these games for over a decade now.
I'm more impressed about the timeline. For Tiny Tina to be that age, Roland has been deceased for years, Lilith is half the age shown and Tanis is just insulting. They say it is not made for fans of the series, but I don't think its made for not fans of the series either. So, who are the target public for this pile of trash?

Claptrap is wrong, love Jack Black but in this case they should've used the voice actor from the game. Kate is the least of my concerns with the cast, she is quite old for the character she is playing. Roland...Roland is supposed to be a large man with a deep voice, they got the most opposite of that in Kevin Heart. I'm so sad. Have played Borderlands since 1. This movie is a dumpster fire. The world is great but the casting is infuriating. One thing though, Moxxi is in her 60s in the game. So she's actually the only one decently casted not because of her age but because she looks like Moxxi.
Well, I really like Borderlands; and I really like the actors that were cast, but NOT FOR THIS MOVIE. I can't believe it. 2 are grandparents. In the game, the characters go from child age, to young adults. Not retirees.
After a couple days of thinking on it.. kind of how I'm leaning. I don't know how they are going to make it work, but maybe they will. I cant tell if they don't have faith in the movie so they just grabbed a bunch of "Nerd Community Recognizable" names and threw them in a blender cause of their past successes in other famous franchises in hopes of pulling folks on popularity alone. The trailer and world looks fantastic, but lots to be left desired with the cast.

Umm... Arent you 2 years late to this topic? I knew the pics just come out along with trailer, but we knew this was such a bad casting years ago. Pics coming out just solidify our suspicion - they dont know what they are doing with adapting this game, clearly. Appareantly, they dont even care to follow the story in any capacity. They are just going to do totally new story with same exact characters, which doesnt make any sense at all.
This is my thoughts on Sirens. I think there was more than 6 at some time, especially during the time when Eridians were around. Now something happened where they got reduced down to 1, something happened where the phase leach siren, Myriad, worked with Eridians to build the vaults, and something happened to the point an entire race of aliens sacrificed themselves. I think the vaults were built to be prisons for Sirens. I think there was some way between Sirens and Eridians. The siren powers just transferred to another person, so they built the vaults to lock sirens away, however, the vault tech is made of eridian and the radiation from that changes beings in monster examples are slagged bloodwing and the serpent emerging from Nyriads vault tomb.
Once again the entertainment industry showing they dont give a damned shit about beloved franchises, only the fact they might lure some people for sales. They didnt even bother to give lillith her siren tattoos amd think I can go on with critisism like this for an hour. Its an absioute disgrace and I cant take it that people that likely have no clue of what borderlands is will praise it. I wonder what IP I love will be destroyed next.
One of the most important aspects of Borderlands would be its community driving it for all these years. They could have done something unique in the movie industrie by letting the community pick the ‘classes’ and actors needed to make the movie a success. Imagine having the original story with the Knoxx dlc merged into it and having a good old fashioned scene where they just loot the armory to prepare for the Vault opening. When the note was dropped on a possible movie I instantly thought about Dave Bautista to play Brick; now he’s not even in the movie as a character. Way I look at this now is that Randy Pitchford showed a picture of Claptrap when they asked for the story and characters.
The only, ONLY good casting is Claptrap. We saw as Bowser that Jack Black will go completely all out for the role. And he's going to be just CGI and maybe a tiny on screen cameo as a joke. Everyone else are fine actors but completely miscast.
Jack has hit many home runs before so I’m holding out hope this will be another one. It’s just such a iconic voice.. gonna be hard to make it his own.. but he can.

Kevin hart is not Roland. The Rock or somebody else. If you're going to play a character, study the game first.

Ill forever be boggled by their casting choices for some of the women. Like these characters in the games were super hormone inducing to some people so casting fixed up grandmas in those roles just took what little desire to the see the movie i had and removed it. They are great actors but these were not their roles appearance wise.

The cast a problem but what about miss use the storyline? Stick to the game Canon storyline is most important it will become confusing real . Most people are simple minded to change storyline is much is almost impossible for any reasoning to form. It's just a D.N.I. woke casting. This storyline tiny tina adult next to Roland makes zero sense. Am I only one cares about this?
This film is going to be a huge flop - will watch it but will give a movie rating of 1 out of 10 just for visuals.. Casting of this film is a huge fucking flop. Absolute disrespect to the game series
Its just a matter of the character expression being off. As much as it sounds a bit weird to say out loud, a big part of Lillith visual expression is that of a confident, magical, young and sexy woman. Just like her having the wrong hair color, her being 20-30 years off simply does not match the character design.
For example, as much as most people can agree that Chris Hemsworth is an attractive 40 year old man, he should not be cast to play a 18 year old character, simply because he does look like one.
Tannis has similar issues. Actress is much too old, but the issue is lessened by Tannis having a design that does not rely as much on her age in how she expresses herself.
Kevin Hart is crazy mistaking, both in terms of physical size but also in terms of the type of charisma we expect from the character.
I completely understand the trying to get it to market to the widest audience possible with popular actors cast. That being said this is 100% not for actual diehard fans like myself, and that's fine. It may bring some new people into the games? Awesome, keep it going. But my lord personally it looks like absolute dogshit from the perspective of a fan that's been playing these games for over a decade now.
I'm more impressed about the timeline. For Tiny Tina to be that age, Roland has been deceased for years, Lilith is half the age shown and Tanis is just insulting. They say it is not made for fans of the series, but I don't think its made for not fans of the series either. So, who are the target public for this pile of trash?
kate blanchett and jamie lee curtis are two and a half times older than the characters their portraying, kevin hart is short and not built with muscles, no judgment but hes meant to be portraying a tall buff commando. jack black is okay for clap trap but they need to add the buzz to his voice as the trailer had no effects to make him sound right. ariana looks like the teenage tina and looks like she can pull of the manic personality. gina gershon as moxie is a good fit. thats my intials thoughts on casting (im completely gay so attractiveness doesnt come into it with the actresses)
Honestly, they should've had marcus as the narrator. Along with either Idris Elba or Michael B Jordan as Roland. I really don't know why they'd choose Kevin for this role.

Claptrap is wrong, love Jack Black but in this case they should've used the voice actor from the game. Kate is the least of my concerns with the cast, she is quite old for the character she is playing. Roland...Roland is supposed to be a large man with a deep voice, they got the most opposite of that in Kevin Heart. As far as the Tina character, she's a meh, doesn't have the full snark we expect but maybe is fine, we'll see. Also, why is Krieg in this? When is this movie supposed to be happening in the BL timeline?

The movie would’ve had to taken place sometime before Roland died. Which means this would have to take place somewhere at the very beginning of borderlands 2

I'm so sad. Have played Borderlands since 1. This movie is a dumpster fire. The world is great but the casting is infuriating. One thing though, Moxxi is in her 60s in the game. So she's actually the only one decently casted not because of her age but because she looks like Moxxi.

Well, I really like Borderlands; and I really like the actors that were cast, but NOT FOR THIS MOVIE. I can't believe it. 2 are grandparents. In the game, the characters go from child age, to young adults. Not retirees.
After a couple days of thinking on it.. kind of how I'm leaning. I don't know how they are going to make it work, but maybe they will. I cant tell if they don't have faith in the movie so they just grabbed a bunch of "Nerd Community Recognizable" names and threw them in a blender cause of their past successes in other famous franchises in hopes of pulling folks on popularity alone. The trailer and world looks fantastic, but lots to be left desired with the cast.
You know how bad this casting is, i was stoned out of my mind when i saw the ad for borderlands the movie. And im like "what the fuck bro they like ruined borderlands bro" even a stoner can see this is bullshit.

Umm... Arent you 2 years late to this topic? I knew the pics just come out along with trailer, but we knew this was such a bad casting years ago. Pics coming out just solidify our suspicion - they dont know what they are doing with adapting this game, clearly. Appareantly, they dont even care to follow the story in any capacity. They are just going to do totally new story with same exact characters, which doesnt make any sense at all.

This is my thoughts on Sirens. I think there was more than 6 at some time, especially during the time when Eridians were around. Now something happened where they got reduced down to 1, something happened where the phase leach siren, Myriad, worked with Eridians to build the vaults, and something happened to the point an entire race of aliens sacrificed themselves. I think the vaults were built to be prisons for Sirens. I think there was some way between Sirens and Eridians. The siren powers just transferred to another person, so they built the vaults to lock sirens away, however, the vault tech is made of eridian and the radiation from that changes beings in monster examples are slagged bloodwing and the serpent emerging from Nyriads vault tomb.

One of the most important aspects of Borderlands would be its community driving it for all these years. They could have done something unique in the movie industrie by letting the community pick the ‘classes’ and actors needed to make the movie a success. Imagine having the original story with the Knoxx dlc merged into it and having a good old fashioned scene where they just loot the armory to prepare for the Vault opening. When the note was dropped on a possible movie I instantly thought about Dave Bautista to play Brick; now he’s not even in the movie as a character.
Way I look at this now is that Randy Pitchford showed a picture of Claptrap when they asked for the story and characters.

The only, ONLY good casting is Claptrap. We saw as Bowser that Jack Black will go completely all out for the role. And he's going to be just CGI and maybe a tiny on screen cameo as a joke. Everyone else are fine actors but completely miscast.

I can get behind that. I’m optimistic about the movie, but hesitant still. The voice of Claptrap is so iconic but Jack Black has delivered so many times before, after hearing more of the voice.. still not my favorite.. but it’s growing on me. I really hope it’s good!! Borderlands deserves it
