To be fair, this thing has been in development for so many years that it actually predates a lot of them. It was originally suppposed to wrap up filming in 2021, but they were still doing reshoots as late as january 2023 and it's coming out just now.

Considering Borderlands 3 is the only one I never finished that's a good way to explain it, lots of jokes in the other games were eye rolling but BL3 actually irritated me enough to put me in a bad mood.
Replaying it with friends did not fade out the dialogue as much as I'd hoped either, then a year later I found out some major characters died, in the most absurd ways no less, and I'm sooo glad I didn't play it that far at the time or I might have had an aneurysm. Funny enough that was around the time I stopped caring about AAA games, weird coincidence right?
Borderlands 1 humor: mostly dark humor with a bit of that "xd random" that didn't age very well but its not so overbearing that it makes you cringe
Borderlands 2 humor: plays into the "xd random" too hard very much product of its time, lots of jokes make you cringe a bit but its fairly bearable and has a fair bit of nostalgic charm
borderlands 3 humor: just straight up unbearable cringe that felt incredibly badly aged from day 1
Making a movie based on a game series that was hard carried by its visual style and a single ad-libbing voice actor in its second entry, and actively choosing to omit both of these two things, certainly is a bold creative decision.

I didn't even know there was a Borderlands movie. Video games and the entertainment industry have gotten so bad I pretty much ignore anything new that comes out.
I just focus on Japan made games, a couple indies, and a large amount of old games.

What is it with modern screenwriters being incapable of getting away from literal toilet humor? Very rarely does it work even within context.
The Borderlands games have fun Gameplay but their writing is Reddit incarnate for the most part. The only reason 2s story is remembered is because of Handsome Jack, who’s voice actor add libbed most of his dialogue.
The character writing is genuinely great in 2. Especially the Tiny Tina dlc. In Borderlands 1, its mostly forgettable and in 3, it's an atrocious shit show.

The worse part is the movie is supposedly going to tie in the events after the pre-sequel and before borderlands 2, hence why they have only the manlet as roland and the roastbeef as lilith from the og vault hunters, but got a grandma as tannis and a goblina as tina?

Tiny Tina was such an annoying character in BL2 that I would always turn the voice volume to 0 whenever she came up. Then BL3's dialogue was so bad that me AND ALL MY FRIENDS disabled voices permanently. I've never had to do that for any other video game, let alone a damn series, before or since.

Not only having a 50 and 60 something year olds playing late 20/early 30 year olds, but a 5'2" comedian playing a 5'11" brooding no nonsense soldier. You'd be surprised that there are people who actually like Tiny Tina, who shouldn't even be in this movie, along with Ellie who's also from the second game and Mouthpiece from the third entry. No telling what they're even trying to do here, but it is severe desparation at it's finest.
Tiny Tina was fine when the dosage was very low. Then they started cramming her everywhere and it was way too much. She isn’t a character that can be enjoyable for more than short little bursts though.
Actually, these crap adaptations DO make their money back. Not through sales but through money laundering. That's why media sucks so hard now. Because it's just one big money laundering scheme. It doesn't matter how much your movie sucks if you can make all your money back through corruption, and even getting a little bit extra from those folks at Blackrock. The film and tv industry are just more blatant about phoning things in today because who's going to complain? So much of those games and their stories are told thru codec calls and it literally being a videogame (like plugging into port 2 to defeat psycho mantis) especially metal gear 2 sons of liberty because the whole point of that game is you playing it as raiden then realizing you've been playing a real simulation S3 plan, how would you convert something like that into a movie, then they would make it woke on top of it. Should've been Cyberpunk Edgerunners where it would be a Cartoon Anthology series set in the world and lore that could explore backstory of hyperion or the other aspects of the world
The first game was ok, the second game was great, then came the third... That was the first time I genuinely felt like an absolute Fool for buying a game on day 1. Thankfully, the last time too. That third title was so unbelievably woke; it's still my primary go-to example for ideological fanaticism on full display over entertainment. Reddit humor was an understatement. I couldn't make it past the ultra-gay adventures of blackwashed Hammerlock and his missing boyfriend. The show will continue this trend in the never-ending search for the seal-clapping "modern audience."
I'm so happy I'm not the only one who cringed so hard seeing the poster for this movie on Facebook. I left a comment there saying, "If this post wasn't sponsored by Cinemark, I would have thought this was some AI generated slop."

I'm glad OG FF7 grew on you, I wanted to say awhile back you can speed up all that ATB/turn based settings stuff in the options. I replayed the game 3 or 4 years ago, and fell in love with it all over again myself. I really ended up liking Barret and Dyne's backstory and Barret's development from a bad guy into a fairly good guy. I also liked how after the flashback at Kalm, Tifa mostly fades into the background with Cloud interactions til Disc 2 because she's suppsed to be aware something is very wrong with Cloud after his story didn't add up. The bad translation made 7 harder to understand when I was younger, but it made a ton more sense to me in the last playthrough.
They're actually making a sequel to Uncharted...

Borderlands was painfully embarrassing after the first game, Hell midway through the first game it was so cringey that I had to mute all the dialogue while playing.
I played two and didn’t pay attention to the dialogue except for jack he’s probably the only redeeming quality besides gameplay

This feels like gaslighting bait of a new kind with the same twisted feeling. Over the last 10+ Myself and others have had so many fair and reasonable critiques completely shut down by the same lines. "you're a ____ist" of some kind. Using these kinds of things to deflect any criticisms has become so common that most PR campaigns for promoting movies/shows with questionable casting/changes to source material...etc go straight to it right away. After dealing with it for so long in other fandoms I never imagined I'd hear the same kinds of arguments in the BORDERLANDS FANDOM of all things.
I'm now hearing statements like "the only reason you have to not like this movie is that the women you like to objectify are mature, confident and badass older women you ageist pig!" and it's like....I love older woman. My soon to be wife is 40 years old and significantly older than I am. I'm none of these labels being thrown my way. I simply think that character traits matter for characters.
If a character is well known for their dreadlocks they shouldn't be cast as white. If a character is known for their piercing blue eyes and red hair they shouldn't be cast as black. If characters are known for their height and muscular build they shouldn't be cast as a short, disabled woman. When fan favorite characters are either completely erased or miscassed it's totally fine to voice displeasure as character traits allow you to identify a character in the first place.
This isn't the case for someone like Paul Rudd who's immortal and somehow passes for a 30 something when he's 50 something or Halle Berry who could play characters in their 20s while being in her 40s/50s and now you have Zoe Saldana who's 45 but still can play college characters. When I can see the wrinkles on Lilith, characters that are suppose to be 22 I don't like it. Dr. Tannis being a Doctor must be at least 29 to get that title but is likely early-mid 30s. Jamie Lee Curtis is 65 years old. She hasn't been the right age to play this character in 3 decades! Kevin Hart....was a funny little man, his stand-up is still enjoyable to me but slapping him in EVERYTHING has got old....on top of that he's the exact opposite of Roland in every single way. Not just height, personality, temperament, demeanor....everything about him is wrong.
Tl;DR; this sucks and it's terrible that we live in a world where something can be bad for obvious reasons but pointing out the obvious somehow makes YOU the problem....
