X Files was such a big deal in my house. It was really the first show that we all liked and so was the first show that we would actually watch as family and truly enjoy.
YES!! One of my favorite shows that changed my childhood! They used to air the show on Friday before they switched to Sunday after The Simpsons. They even aired Millennium on Fridays as a companion show.
The X-Files was such a big part in our lives during the 90's, I actually know some of my friends go home directly instead of having a good time after work just to watch the X-Files.
I remember watching the pilot episode of "The X-Files" the night it came on TV. I was hooked! I watched EVERY episode, from that very first one, all the way up to the early 2000's! Gillian Anderson always did get me swole... 🤣
The X-Files did for sci-fi TV what Blade Runner did for the sci-fi cinema. It showed how much more impactful the darker and grittier sci-fi universes can sometimes be. The special guest stars like Burt Reynolds, Jodie Foster, Lucy Lawless and Haley Joel Osment were always particularly impressive.
Brings back memories of Friday nights during my high school years. Classic '90's television! The writing, acting and production were all top-tier!! Brilliant series. I hope there is at least one more film made to wrap up the entire story. The reboot show ended with an unsatisfying cliffhanger. I'd like to see the loose ends tied up during my lifetime.
When you become a multi-millionaire thanks to a successful TV series often, as an actor, you stop chasing after every role possible and you become more selective about the parts you want to play. Of course, there are those who keep making movies and TV shows no matter how bad those projects are, case in point... Kevin Hart.
She enjoys tv and as for tv roles she has had some high quality roles…this, Sex Education, The Crown, also Princess Mononoke and many films. I know it can seem this way from our side that she’s not in high profile blockbusters or more hits but from her perspective she’s been highly discriminant about her work and found a lot of quality roles; she has the wealth and the skill to do that and still maintain a private life. Well done her.
I got a "trust no one" bumper sticker when I visited the alien museum at Roswell years ago with my mom. We would both watched it together when I was younger. It's on my current car.
The first thing I ever bought on Ebay was a bootleg VHS copy of the " Home " episode. Like around 2000 or 2001. Still one of the best shows ever. Nice tribute JoBlo.
@@richardhoehn9922 Im a media reseller. I click on interesting videos to listen to whilst taking pictures of disc media. Reason I picked this one is the first item needing pictured is a Ultimate Xphiles Blu ray set. Oh, and I grew up with Xfiles. A few favs are Monday and Field Trip.

X-Files was an obsession for me in the mid/late nineties. I didn’t have cable but had heard of the show, I rented a few cassettes of episodes from blockbuster video and became obsessed. I even had family friends record the episodes on a blank cassette for me when they aired every Sunday. Once my family got cable, I watched it every time it was on . Some of the best episodes of Television ever were from the X files. Such a landmark and groundbreaking show.
I was so obsessed with this show growing up. Agent Scully was/is my Hero!!!! Such a strong intelligent woman. I’m currently rewatching the whole series. And I realize that Mulder and Scully were in love the entire time! Just a great show with great characters and great chemistry.
a this show was on when I was having a hard time with my health and marriage.. This show gave me something to look fwd to ...lots of emails with friends on my new PC ...and so much joy...My favorite show of all time!!
I rewatched the entire series a few hears ago, and must say, today’s show runners should take notes. It’s a phenomenal show. And while not all episodes land the right way, the main thing is that they dared to experiment. One of my all time faves!
Loved it from the very first episode..Still do. It lost its way a little with David's absence but it was still watchable and enjoyable. Squeeze & Toombs in my opinion, are 2 of the best episodes ever made for tv.
@25:30 so true about the point at the end. maulder and scully were nerds and the stars and heroes of the show. they werent macho, super aggressive, super cops. they were both intelligent analytical agents who truly investigated every aspect of a case.
It's funny that the characters of Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor and Princess Leia Organa are always talked about as strong female characters (who actually were STRONG female characters and not caricatured Mary-Sues) but the character of Dana Scully is almost forgotten. None of them were perfect, they do not know it all and they had to overcome extreme obstacles -but there was always a fragile strength underneath that kept the characters grounded. Scully was played in this way to perfection. Anderson's portrayal of her is one of THE best in strong character development. Yes, credit is deserved to the writers of The X-Files -and somewhat to Chris Carter but Gillian Anderson deserves the lion's share due to her excellent performances during the show and in the movies. One of THE best shows of all time.
I loved the episode with the loggers? When they cut down an old tree and the green "mites"? Or whatever came out and started killing ppl. Always creeped me out
This aired on tuesday night at 11 PM in Finland in the 90's. What a time to have been young and exitable and scared for watching it! And talking about it next day in school! It seemed to bring everyone together, even haters. Everybody loved it and was ewed by what they saw :P I have seen some of my favorite episodes recently in HD and on wide screen TV, but it is just not the same as that grainy effect of small box-TV screen that seemed to add to the obscure and mystery back then. Or maybe it is just me that has changed... Still, superb show!
I'm happy to see you guys love this one. It was daunting to tackle because there was so much I wanted to say. Also, I saw the first Xfiles movie the night before I got married with my soon to be husband.
I had no idea this show lasted for so many years. I always thought it was a 90s TV Show. All the episodes I have ever seen are with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
it ended in 2002 and the reason it ended ? was 9/11.....an interview with Chris Carter and he said after the attacks it was time to take it off the air?! if it hadn't been for those dam terrorist attaks the x-files probably would have gone on?!
If you ask any X-Files fan, they will likely say that the show may not be bringing new episodes to the screen, but that The X-Files is well and truly alive! 👽 I only discovered the show in 2010, but I can honestly say it saved my life. I told that to Chris Carter when I met him in L.A. (despite living in the UK!) I also met David 🧡 and Gillian. IMHO, The X-Files is the best TV series that I have seen. The stories, the acting, the scripts, the lighting - and particularly Mark Snow's atmospheric music - are all original and magical and these parts come together to form a unique whole. (Not to mention Gillian and David's chemistry which I have witnessed up close in real life.) A true cultural phenomenon. In my opinion, there will never be anything to equal this show. 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Day One X-Phile here & those first few seasons are like comfort food. Required viewing year-round, but particularly every fall, when the days get shorter, nights longer. Prime "spooky" season content. So many favorite episodes: Squeeze, Detour, Folie à Deux, The Host, Roadrunners, Familiar, etc. I love the alien conspiracy eps, but those Monster of the Week ones ATE every time. Nice retrospective. Mulder & Scully 4ever! 🛸👽💚
It revolutionized TV in the 90s. The monster of the week and the over arching story mixed in was perfect. I miss having 20+ episodes per season with an episodic narrative. TV shows now are only 10 episodes per season and its narrative is more like one long movie.
couple other cameos in the series, Ryan Reynolds, Alex Trebek and Jesse "the body" Ventura, Luke Wilson im sure im forgetting others, but these were the ones that i remember that werent mentioned.
I missed this first time round in the 90s. I saw the Coombs episode and liked it, but if you missed it in the 90s, you missed it. No recordings or catch-up tv etc. I spotted it on Disney+ last autumn and.....well..... did all 217 episodes and both movies. Took me about 6 months to get through it. Most of it was on my tablet on a treadmill. Could get 2 episodes a day in that way. It was great watching it this way, it was brilliant seeing the early 90s visual change to 00s
Man i remember being 13 getting stoned off the world's worst dirt weed, drinking crappy budweisers we stole from our parents, watching this show in my buddies garage turned room every week. We all loved it so much, made us all want trench coats lol. Such good memories, it was a massive show.
Duchovny is great - in 1993 a friend in LA was working on a feature and interviewing known actors for the part of a bad-guy crime boss - had lunch with the 33 year old Duchovny who unfortunately said only wanted to play the teenage protagonist.
I am honored to have been a huge of this show when I entered high school in the fall of 93. It reflected much of my values and beliefs that helped shape me to become the person I am today.
Just a quick note, another crossover build up that most people dont catch is Strange Luck , also on Fox the main character is told if anything goes wrong to contact the only agent his brother trusts , Fox Mulder
I finished a rewatch of the whole series last year. For a 30 year old show I have to say it holds up impressively well. I wasn't as keen on the more recent reboot. I'm hoping the new stuff that's being worked on by Ryan Coogler will take a clean break from Mulder and Scully and tell a fresh story as by the end the show got too bogged down in it's own mythology.
The X-Files was all rage in High School. Anasazi, The Blessing Way, Paper Clip, Bad Blood, Home and Dreamland 1 & 2 were my favorites. I preferred the Monster of the Week episodes over the Mythology episodes.
No mention of the old man that was the head of the FBI laboratory. They would often have long scenes with him in the earlier seasons. He would often give them backstories of scientific theories and so on. Was sad to see him not appearing suddenly..
Millennium was great, and the weak attempt to give it an ending in the x-files was extremely unsatisfying. Brisco was so different that it was obvious it would get shitcanned. But it was very enjoyable. I was really pissed that Space Above and Beyond didn't get more seasons though since it was a great show.
Terry O Quinn played multiple characters in x files. He was in an episode where he impregnated another cop in an affair that scully works out, then he plays one of the supersoldiers in a later season. The guy who plays Curtis in 24 is also mutliple characters including a swat team member and a guard at area 51.

The episode with Giovanni Ribisi and Jack Black was one of my favorites. They used that Filter song "Hey Man Nice Sh0t" perfectly placed within the episode. Wish it could've been a two hour episode.
I was a kid when X-Files was on. I was neither ready for the hour-long adult police procedural or the rare appearances of the bad guy of the week. I liked some episodes, but i wasnt rushing home to see it when there were friends and girls and adventures to be had. Years later i got to catch up on the show when sci-fi would show day-long blocks of different shows each day, which was awesome in itself. Anyways, the X-Files grew on me easily and some of the same studio people went on to make 'Supernatural' and others.
Oh the show was such a big part of my teenage years from 1997-2002😊 we only had online chatgroups and discussion boards back then. I remember standing up at night to watch the rerun of the latest episode! there was no streaming to binge watch😅 you could buy a dvd box set of every season (which was damn expensive in the beginning). oh and the MS fanfics 😅 good old times!
On the other hand, and this is my personal opinion as a fan of the series, the reasons why the xfiles died out were the following: One: the overarching plot of the syndicate and the colonization conspiracy was stretch out for way to long to the point that they had to keep adding things throughout the seasons to keep the intrigue going but this just made things more confusing. They should have ended the thing in the fifth or fourth season and create a new overarching story/plot. Two: no new overarching villian/opposite force for the X-files investigators after the destruction of syndicate. Without the "overarching conspiracy" the show lost its focus and it felt like they were just throwing anything at the story hoping something would stick. They could have replaced them with another group in the gov that also investigated the scifi/supernatural elements for the purpose of using the knowledge for the good of the military or something or have a new more private shadow organization, that maybe the greys had contact with behind the backs of the syndicate as a plan b, that combined the alien knowledge they got from the greys with the supernatural aspects of the show (demons, witchcraft and all that) for their own benefits and plans which could've been use a a link between the series and it's spinoff Millennium. Third: the constant scepticism of both Mulder and Scully on different topics. Why was Scully still a hardened sceptic after all the crap she's witness? She could've still be the one asking questions and going by the book and scientific method without dismissing the possibility of the unnatural after all she's seen. And why would Mulder, the open minded believer, just dismiss some of the supernatural things like angels while being open to others. He could've just put his own spin to it as theories, like saying that angels are just extra dimensional beings/aliens or something. Fourth: No Mulder in later seasons. Like seriously what the heck? Is one thing to have a few episodes without Scully or adding new characters to the xfiles like Doggett, wich I personally had no problem with, but having the xfiles without Mulder, who basically represents everything the show is about, is like having the series Buffy without Buffy.
One big problem with them bringing The X-Files back in 2016 was the fact aliens and government conspiracies were big back in the 90's. Whereas, by 2016, no one cares about aliens other than the Ancient Aliens that people view as crazy freaks. Though too bad the X-Files reboot was pretty bad as I was glad it had come back as The X-Files was one of my favorite 90's shows, but too bad it ended horribly back in it's original run, and was further run into the ground with the reboot mess.
The smoking dude used to be a family friend, unfortunately I never got to meet him. Also about Mulder not being a regular, it sure didn't seem that way when I went to binge the old series some years ago. He popped up all the dang time.
The main cast was impeccable! It was truly a phenomenon! I never watched the whole series because binge watching wasn't a thing. You lose an episode - you may never see it again! But the monster of the week format worked great those days of TV. The serialized plot was moving veeeeery slowly and very little at a time. But it made the series extra intriguing!
Season 2 Episode 2 "The Host" changed me forever, I didn't sleep well for weeks, I STILL won't go into outhouses, porta-potty, anything with a sewage tank, then they follow it up later in the season with "The Humbug" unreal.
blending fantasy, scifi, crime drama and government conspiracy suspense thriller should have been an overreach doomed to fail, but Skully and Mulder were intelligent and sexy, if awkward as hell and somehow their on screen chemistry managed to tie it all together, Skully dismissively hanging a lantern on how absurd every story was while Mulder dared us to consider it. This constant juxtaposition and cycling kept it fresh, and it showed talent at every level of the show, writing, directing, filming, casting, acting, they had it all. Thank you Fox for daring to fail so many times for so many great timeless shows.
When this was airing I lived in a student sharehouse. It aired on Thursdays in Australia IIRC. All of our friends would crowd into the living room each week to watch - if anyone called the house during X Files they copped an earful and were told to never call while the show was on. X Files was serious shizz.
it was the thing to do watch the X-files and chat with people on line about it and even during the shows first airings. the only way to bring it back would be all new cast big shoes to fill. Maybe a cartoon would be good but it would have to be more adult Could use voice actors that sound close might keep cost down too for all the wild effects. Most likely it will have to remain in my own fan fiction to keep the quality up for me.
This series was so addicting. Really cool episodes up until Mulder left imo. I enjoyed the short reboot as well. DPO and Home were always in my top 5 favorite episodes.
X Files was such a big deal in my house. It was really the first show that we all liked and so was the first show that we would actually watch as family and truly enjoy.

But it was very enjoyable. I was really pissed that Space Above and Beyond didn't get more seasons though since it was a great show.
I will never forget that Entertainment Weekly called this show a goner when it first premiered. 😅
I really liked Milenium and the tie in episode was great
Terry O Quinn played multiple characters in x files. He was in an episode where he impregnated another cop in an affair that scully works out, then he plays one of the supersoldiers in a later season. The guy who plays Curtis in 24 is also mutliple characters including a swat team member and a guard at area 51.
Wonderful recap.
Oh man, thanks! I'm from Russia, and this happens with The Twilight Zone itself, my favorite аmerican series.
X-Files on The Simpsons was amazing!

X files and it's intro music was the main reason why I was terrified of Aliens as a kid in the early 2000's. The music was my nightmare every time lol
The X-Files music used to scare me when I was a child
The Truth is Out There. I think.
Definitely! 👽👍
Still have my poster
My father and I watched this together. It's because of him and this TV show that my fascination for the paranormal exists.
Oh the show was such a big part of my teenage years from 1997-2002😊 we only had online chatgroups and discussion boards back then. I remember standing up at night to watch the rerun of the latest episode! there was no streaming to binge watch😅 you could buy a dvd box set of every season (which was damn expensive in the beginning). oh and the MS fanfics 😅
good old times!
As a kid I always like the one where they were stuck in the forest getting stalk by a invisible ghost, it reminded me of predator
Man, I remember being about 10 or 11 and watching Home, the only time they aired it. Scared the hell out of me!
On the other hand, and this is my personal opinion as a fan of the series, the reasons why the xfiles died out were the following:
One: the overarching plot of the syndicate and the colonization conspiracy was stretch out for way to long to the point that they had to keep adding things throughout the seasons to keep the intrigue going but this just made things more confusing.
You speak the literal truth
One big problem with them bringing The X-Files back in 2016 was the fact aliens and government conspiracies were big back in the 90's. Whereas, by 2016, no one cares about aliens other than the Ancient Aliens that people view as crazy freaks. Though too bad the X-Files reboot was pretty bad as I was glad it had come back as The X-Files was one of my favorite 90's shows, but too bad it ended horribly back in it's original run, and was further run into the ground with the reboot mess.
I miss the thrill of a brand new X Files when you didn't know what to expect.
Duchovny interviews are the sole reason I started reading Yeats poetry
My FAVORITE show growing up as a kid. Also remember Twin Peaks, totally forgot David was in it!!!
The smoking dude used to be a family friend, unfortunately I never got to meet him. Also about Mulder not being a regular, it sure didn't seem that way when I went to binge the old series some years ago. He popped up all the dang time.
Jose Chung’s From Outer space will always be my favorite episode of any TV show
The main cast was impeccable!
I loved their simpsons cameo as i was a kid.
Scully: Do you understand?
Homer: Yes
Lie Detector: 💥💥💥
Season 5 Episode 4 is another banger, will make you think about the deep woods!
Saw the X-Files since I was 4 years old, great show!
Such an iconic show, too bad it went out the way it did. 😢😢😢
blending fantasy, scifi, crime drama and government conspiracy suspense thriller should have been an overreach doomed to fail, but Skully and Mulder were intelligent and sexy, if awkward as hell and somehow their on screen chemistry managed to tie it all together, Skully dismissively hanging a lantern on how absurd every story was while Mulder dared us to consider it. This constant juxtaposition and cycling kept it fresh, and it showed talent at every level of the show, writing, directing, filming, casting, acting, they had it all. Thank you Fox for daring to fail so many times for so many great timeless shows.
ive seen every episode of x files. what a great series, even the newest stuff. i dont remember EVERYTHING years later, but i enjoyed it.
what a great video! thank you!
my mom recorded the x files vhs when she watched x files on tv that time (she recorded it on record tv)
This was cool, thank you.
When this was airing I lived in a student sharehouse. It aired on Thursdays in Australia IIRC. All of our friends would crowd into the living room each week to watch - if anyone called the house during X Files they copped an earful and were told to never call while the show was on. X Files was serious shizz.
In the 90's I dyed my hair red and wore it like Scully's. Absolutely loved the X-Files.
Wow you mentioned Werewolf that's throwbacks, y'all should definitely do a video on that one I loved that show 💯
it was the thing to do watch the X-files and chat with people on line about it and even during the shows first airings. the only way to bring it back would be all new cast big shoes to fill.
