thank you!!!! what he did was NOT a full power off. get this, i have the bold (bout to get a 3G S) and one time it took my bold 20 minutes to load after i took the battery out! do you like the 3G S? :D
I have an Blackberry Flip, and i wanna know if is better to buy an iphone than jus continue with the same phone, please tell me whats better, getting iphone or keeping the same phone
great video jon! i have a storm myself so i really enjoyed this review. one thing i should mention and i'll probably do a video on is that the storm's browser is configurable meaning you can make websites think its either a blackberry, internet explorer, or firefox
The newest FW the storm DOES have a full QWERTY portrait keyboard. If you hit the BB button while typing a message you would see an "enable full keyboard" option. Also, you don't tap to auto-focus. You hover over the camera button. But still, very nice review.
why don't you cover the multitasking abilities of the storm, i have all kinds of apps that run in the background like beejive and twitter but theres no such thing as background apps on the iphone
@marleeabbigale1 yea, i looked at them, the 3GS has better processor-- my mom has one, i love it. but the only problem for me is that the 3G is $100 cheaper so i need to know if its worth the extra $100, on the 3G- can you still do all of the backgrounds and folders, etc.?
@bexter19961 oh, yea, i like it but a couplethings first, 1. What OS does it have i want BB OS 6, 2. How fast does the EDGE Browser load on wifi? 3. is the resolution any good?
this isnt a fair comparison. i wanna see how good the i phone 3gs is going to compare with the storm 2. new with the new. olld with tha old dont you tink?
im trying to decide between either an iPhone 3G or 3GS. i dont have a data plan so i dont care about the network, i only care about texting, wifi, calling, the latest updates for apple (folders, backgrounds, etc.) and camera. they are $100 in differnce for me, so im not too sure, any suggestions?
@bexter19961 sorry to hear about yer parents, but wow, lucky! Im thinking about getting the iphone 3G. Its $100 less than the 3GS but i want to know if its not a big deal to not get the 3GS my mom has the 3GS. What can the 3Gs do that the 3G cant? i want it to be able to do all of the new updates like folders, backgrounds, etc.
also for some of the letters when u hold it down there are like these weird signs on tope of them for example when u try to rite cafe on the iphone u can rite it the correct way with that weird sign on top of the E
About the dust problem, that happens on nearly all touch screens. The Iphone's touch screen is not tactile response, and the touch surface extends past the screen itself, which means that it is extremely difficult for dust to accumulate underneath the touch surface. The BlackBerry, on the other hand, has a tactile response touch screen, and the touch surface extends only a small distance from the screen itself. When you "click" the screen, it lifts the edges a little allowing dust to accumulate.
You didnt said that by (powering off) the storm, it just goes to standby mode, try pulling the battery off and putting it in, IT TAKES AGES to boot up. 3-5 minutes to be exact!
Jon, open the Storm browser, press the blackberry button, click options, select browser configuration, then change browser identification to "Internet Explorer"... you can then kiss goodbye to quickly loading mobile sites as you now have the full webpage. Glad to see you upgraded to .148 though, your Storm, iPhone and Pre comp. video was running .75 which really crippled the Storm's chance of even comparing.
iPhone wins by far. Speed, Apps, Camera, Design, easily updating software (which still continues) and awesome user interface. Must admit that the BlackBerry has an awesome messaging service (BlackBerry Messenger, iMessage is not as good) and has a bit better talk quality.
something i noticed is when he ended the storm applications, he didnt actually close them. In order to close storm applications, you have to to go options by clicking the RIM button and tap "close" or "exit." By not doing this there is a perk and i down side. You can run many applications at once but it slows down the phones operations. He also should have shown what it looks like when typing in full QWERTY while in portrait. I am a Storm user but I do enjoy both phones.
The reboot time was not a fair comparision. The storm only puts the phone to sleep. If you want a true comparison pull the battery on the storm and force reboot the Apple 3gs. It took almost 5 minutes to reboot my Storm when i had it, only 20 seconds for the 3gs.
Im stuck on what to get, im thinking iPhone tho, im moving to California from England in two months and want to use it when im over there obviously so it will hav to be unlocked, just stuck on what to get!
You are totally right yet I was trying to: 1. channel people to quicker better formulated comparisons 2. Give Constructive Criticism. 3. fiery comment was triggered by frustration as the video really could have been done better! (Free or not) Thanks for the video ... and the comment
I do have to wonder how many people who are slamming the BB Storm have actually used it, or if they are simply going by what they read and hear. The BB storm isn't as streamlined, but once you actually start using it, it works nicely (Though there is no denying the horrible bugs.) The iPhone is better in most ways, however if AT&T doesn't have that great of service in your area, the Blackberry really isn't a bad choice. Especially when the Storm 2 hits without the click screen.
yeah yeah i know that, but if you look closely, there's one long and narrow box for the password to go in, with an "OK" button on the far right. My iPhone has 4 boxes for the password.
For years I was carrying cheap phones around because I was too stingy to pay for a smart phone. Just 3 weeks ago I man up and got me the iPhone 3g S and I gotta say it's the best thing I've could have done. Great machine I can't believe I lived all this years without it.
as of today, the BlackBerry storm2 is an older version. The latest Storm2 is an awesome phone. Supposedly Flashplayer 10.0 is arriving to Blackberry users later this year!!!
something a lot of people dont know about blackberry is that with its data it compresses it so its 5x smaller so if u used 5 mb on the iphone u would only use 1mb on the blackberry,,, just putting that out there
Hey Jon I own both the iphone 3G S and blackberry storm and I must say I love the Iphone because its so much smoother than the storm. I recently updated the storm and i havent had any problems or bugs like the ones in this video. You also forgot to mention the other new keyboards that came with the update for storm.
Apple makes it rotate slower for a reason... Just incase you accidentally lift it on one side for a second, it wont turn. I don't think this is an issue.
Also know this, the storm came with all the precious features that the 3G lacked; video recording 3.0 mgp camera, voice dialing compass/navigator. And to top it the storm was and still is the faster phone. Verizon is also favored over at&t. Pretty much the only 2 things the iphone has that the storm dosen't, is the thing that lets you find your phone on mobile me, and the app store. There are loads better places to go than the itunes store. Why pay for music?
alot more joices and gadgets inside? do you know how many applications you can download for the 3gs? well 90,000 so if thats the reason why you think blackberry is better, your wrong...
i got iphone and there are many things missing. 1. U cant use your own music as ringtones, u have jailbreak your phone which is not good at all. 2. no MMS...3. no zoom on the camera..4. no ringtones for your messages. 5. you cant ignore a call.....wow...Many things missing on a "smart phone" I rather keep my old razzor, it has everything..
Quick tip: For blackberry storm 1 users: If ur touch screen button is not kind of pressing in the corners, just take a piece of paper, make sure it's smaller than the battery, take it and place it where the battery goes, and then put the battery in and close the cover! Whoala!! You will get a 10x better pressing!
No phone in the world can even compare to the Iphone 3gs. The smoothnes on the Iphone can never be beaten by any other phone. I have to give Apple creds for this one. They have made the best phone in the world from now on!
Hello, As far as the Startup and Shutdown times of both phones, the iPhone 3GS wins. I owned a Storm and holding the power button for on/off is only an illusion. The phone goes into a low power standby and is still on, which is why it boots so quickly once you push the button again. The iPhone actually does a complete hardware shutdown, no standby making a real fresh boot. Take the battery out for the REAL boot up time, about 5 minutes easily. Really! Try it for yourself! it's THAT slow.
Why didn't he talk about the removable battery and storage? Or the courtesy button or the bright ass flash or the literaly FULLY customizable phone .(everything
@AK325iZoro i think im gettin either the motorola quench or the nokia N8- the iphone wont work on my carrier and i rather not have to buy a Blackberry Add-on to go with it
Its probably just from the 3.0 update. I wish I could confirm it, but i don't have 3.0 because i don't think its worth 10 bucks or whatever it is for ipod touch users.
if your going to get the storm then wait for the second one to come out it will feature wifi and no more sure press but true press which is just touch screen no more clicking on a screen which id personally prefer but i want an iphone so yeah
if you only change a few options and know how to handle it, the storm is as good, if not better then the 3gs. simple things like the option that the browser is recognized as Internet Explorer or Firefox for full internet (-flash). and some nice things like multi-tasking should be shown O:
the 3g iPhone isnt better than the Blackberry Storm. The Storm is faster, has more features, and better emailing. The 3G S however matches up with Storm on features doing better in video recording, camera picture quality, voice control, better accelerometer, much faster in loading, much more smooth in everything from sliding to zooming in or zooming out, easier to use, and more apps. I mean when you were looking at the browser test, the 3G S looked so smooth and Storm looked very flawed and slow
but storm takes a lot of time to turn on if you remove the battery and then turn it on it will take a lot of time.. actually this is not an actual turn off but something like a hibernating mode. Just try the other way also.
@bexter19961 yea, there both sweet, i think im gettong either the Curve 8520, samsung wave or htc legend. i cant decide, i wold have to unlock the samsung and htc though
very honest and flawless review. nomatter what people say, Iphone still the best touch screen phone to have. Apples IPHONE is unbeatable, not saying blackberry storm bad, its great, but iphone is better
Search it on here, it's just faster really, the buttons are built into the screen and the camera has been improved, that's all I've gathered so far. People complaining about network issues etc are on a shitty provider.
haha, you didn't turn the storm all the way off. the only way to do that is to pull the battery or get the quickpull app, and then enjoy all of 2 minutes of start up. what you did didn't do anything but stop applications and turn the screen off. it didnt clear any ram or anything, which is important with the terrible memory leak the storm has. i have both phones by the way
Compared to the iphone 3g s, you have to give it to the storm that it is a competetor. Remember, the storm came out before the original 3G, and it was a better phone than the 3g. The storm has been doing it's best to come out with software upgrades that work. I personally choose the storm over the 3Gs. Honestly, there's not much difference with the 3Gs the storm is still faster in almost every way.Since the stormwas better than the 3g, applecameoutwith the 3gs to match it.
It's right, the bb was really slower than the iphone. But with the new fw 5 it's really faster! It's not fast like the 3GS, i have to say, but it's really better now! I installed yesterday and i'm really happy with it! :D
the iPhone 3GS?
Did you get grey and white boxes when scrolling through Engadget?
Is it just me or does the UI on the storm looks very cheap.
thank you!!!! what he did was NOT a full power off.
get this, i have the bold (bout to get a 3G S) and one time it took my bold 20 minutes to load after i took the battery out!
do you like the 3G S? :D
lol the storm definitely isnt competition to the iphone when it comes to smoothness
@Aerosmithfan507 yerr my mum en dad are seperated so its just my mum en i what iphone are you planning to get bcos ive had em all
@IceStudiosYT the bold ?
@XxICEW0LFxX correction...video made around a year ago, iPhone 4 unavailable yet
I have an Blackberry Flip, and i wanna know if is better to buy an iphone than jus continue with the same phone,
please tell me whats better, getting iphone or keeping the same phone

@bexter19961 oh, ok. so its either between those 2 ipgones or the Blackberry curve 9300, so im tryin to decide
how long do u have that blackberry?
i thought they let jon review for a while and send it back..
Why does the lockscreen at 1:52 look different than normal?
why don't you cover the multitasking abilities of the storm, i have all kinds of apps that run in the background like beejive and twitter but theres no such thing as background apps on the iphone
wat camera do you have its realy clear but it has bad focus
@marleeabbigale1 yea, i looked at them, the 3GS has better processor-- my mom has one, i love it. but the only problem for me is that the 3G is $100 cheaper so i need to know if its worth the extra $100, on the 3G- can you still do all of the backgrounds and folders, etc.?

can you watch video in landscape mode on iPhone?
please does any know how much the iphone 3gs is unlocked?
does it make sense to buy an iphone when i already have an ipod touch?
@ScorgeRudess lol, the 3gs only has vga quality video
the iphone 4 has 720p
You didnt said that by (powering off) the storm, it just goes to standby mode, try pulling the battery off and putting it in, IT TAKES AGES to boot up. 3-5 minutes to be exact!
is that iPhone jailbroken? weird lockscreen @ 1:52 ("OK" button?)
Well the iPhone 3G S has 5 hour talk time as you know on 3G. But the option for Edge is really nice for longer talk times.
should i get the blackberry storm or enV touch
@nathanjohnson123 the touchscreen never worked when the phone got a little cold. the backing was cracking and pealing off and the call quality sucked
Should I buy an iphone / blackberry... can't decide.
you should make a video review about the iphone 3G S alone
i have a 3gs 32gig, im not sure if it makes a difference.
of course your gonna get some rendering on it, its a phone doing full internet. The Storm on that site was doing a mobile version.
Jon, open the Storm browser, press the blackberry button, click options, select browser configuration, then change browser identification to "Internet Explorer"...
you can then kiss goodbye to quickly loading mobile sites as you now have the full webpage.
Glad to see you upgraded to .148 though, your Storm, iPhone and Pre comp. video was running .75 which really crippled the Storm's chance of even comparing.
erm john... u did not shut off the blackberry completely...
use the switch off button in the menu.... (it takes a lot longer to boot up from cold)
you can change the storm browser to be recognized as a full internet browser in the options. either as internet explorer, or firefox :)
16 and 32 gb flavors?
iPhone wins by far. Speed, Apps, Camera, Design, easily updating software (which still continues) and awesome user interface. Must admit that the BlackBerry has an awesome messaging service (BlackBerry Messenger, iMessage is not as good) and has a bit better talk quality.
how about iPhone 3GS vs Nokia N900?
specs, N900 is better. OS? ups/downs?
removable battery?
hmm.. i think its still a hard decision
something i noticed is when he ended the storm applications, he didnt actually close them. @unknowndude213 i guess iphone 3GS, it has 720p HD 30FPS recording...
The Palm Pre seems to be adopting multi-touch in precisely the same way as the iPhone.
@bexter19961 good, i want a curve 3G or 8520, the 3G is a Bold 9780 without the 5MP cam w flash and a different keyboard
you cant reboot the storm just by presing the end button. u got to take the battery out.. then it takes like 5 or 6 mins to turn back on

I don't think the blackberry turned off fully, sort of like how the palm treos don't actually turn off.
the bb sorm does not turn of by just pressing the red button, it puts it on sleep mode, to turn it ompletely off you have to remove the battery
Im stuck on what to get, im thinking iPhone tho, im moving to California from England in two months and want to use it when im over there obviously so it will hav to be unlocked, just stuck on what to get!

@codeking55
You can't get it unlocked, you have to do it your self by jailbreaking the phone.
@Snipza theyre gonna find a way to jailbreak the phones on verizon, theres always gonna be exploits. and jailbreaking is "legal" now
I do have to wonder how many people who are slamming the BB Storm have actually used it, or if they are simply going by what they read and hear. It is because of the previous videos that I asked that. He clearly gets the grey and white boxes around 17:56
@AAAAAAACCCCCCCEEEEE Correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't they still fruits?
also theres a year in between both of them... the BB storm was lunch much sooner.....
Nice review but to fully turn off the Blackberry Storm you have to take out the battery... The iPhone 3GS does infact boot faster than the Storm.
Apple makes it rotate slower for a reason... Just incase you accidentally lift it on one side for a second, it wont turn. I don't think this is an issue.

the storm just looks bad next to the iphone :P
ps- at 3:03 to 3:06 did u just say "..and the 3G S comes in 16 & 32g -Flavers-" ????

Yup, the iphone kills every phone :]
@GraffitiBMXskate Correct me if I'm wrong, but he told 'just fruits'.
He has it set so you have to enter a pass. Its been available since the first iphone was released.
you can use your own music as ringtone. You can get it through itunes

Oh rly , theres a storm 2? thats cool cud u prpbably tell me about it .
Compared to the iphone 3g s, you have to give it to the storm that it is a competetor. Remember, the storm came out before the original 3G, and it was a better phone than the 3g. jon u need to get somebody to turn off one of the phoned and u on the other so ur sure to turn both on at the sam time
a combination of both...
no other phones have the apps like apple does or the support
It's right, the bb was really slower than the iphone. But with the new fw 5 it's really faster! It's not fast like the 3GS, i have to say, but it's really better now! I installed yesterday and i'm really happy with it! :D
@wrigren216 iphone does not support video call
