till today i am still using my nokia N97...in 2020....buts its my backup phone....only issue was the battery...replace it...and can still use ..still strong after 11 years ....
my brother had an iphone' his wife drop it, now, it doesnt work anymore, i drop many times my e71 and its still working, but i have to recognize iphone has better UI and web browser
Here is an example of what multitasking can do. On my N97 I have always running some backround applications that do the following automatically: 1) Discard calls and/or messages according to the rules I set (e.g. spam messages or calls from hidden numbers). 2) Record every call. 3) Remind me of incoming messages, emails or unanswered calls, every x minutes with sounds and vibrations. 4) Change the theme according to time (e.g. a light theme in the morning, a dark in the evening)
that's coz you're usin it. there are many who have that fone. it's quite fast compared to some other symbians and is fast for the features it offers. and for the freezing part, it verty rarely happens. i'm amazed at what it can handle. even with a skin, more than 300 apps, it still is very fast and doesn't freeze. for me that is. anyways don't talk bad abt the n97.
one thing to note as far at photography wise, the rule of thirds doesn't really apply in this case because as like all none SLR cameras the image will be cropped because your actually not looking through the lense, so regardless of whether you take the picture on the rule of thirds it will be cropped and will push it out of the rule of thirds, Definitely something worth considering however the camera options are great on the N97 like ISO settings is something I didn't expect on a Mobile.
Nice review mate! Honestly I really like both, especially the iPhone but the N97 is also a very good phone too! The 3GS might be like, a step ahead in terms or performance compared to the N97 and the price difference is quite huge considering I live in Malaysia. So in that case, the 3GS surely win comfortabally in this comparison but the N97 is being like a bargain!
@therappingrabbits N97. you don't mess with 32GB of internal space, PLUS a microSD memory-card slot (which allows you to expand the storage-space, PLUS gives you the ability to do file-transfers between your cellphone and computer and anything else that uses a memory-card, PLUS you can put MP3s in the memory-card and play them on your N97), PLUS a 5-megapixel camera WITH FLASH (something the iPhone still lacks: cameras with flash), dual LED-flash, by the way; plus the camera-lens is Carl Zeiss
I ve iPhone 3G and it rocks. My Hubby has nokia n97 it's cool also. In Africa iPhones are sold as open phones to be used anywhere so u can come buy yours here. Nice comparism Micheal
iphone is capable to run any application in background with the help of softwr called "backgrounder". it's pretty useful to enable multitasking in your iphone, such as running instant messenger or yahoo music in background. just download it from cydia.
Im planning to buy a n 97. The iphone is ok but Nokia has always been better, I have a n 78 (the worst of the N series) and is a great phone -at least for me- so I wonder, if the N 78 is great, how good will the n 97 be? The qwerty keyboard is a plus, I hate to type on the iphone's screen
the N97 does have auto-correction, there is a settings function while typing you can choose it to correct, predict or give you an option of alternate words so its more customizable. You can also change the apps in the front page widgets to what ever you use most. (I have youtube, web, music, videos and bbc iplayer on my front page) My opinion is I like the nokia flavoured smartphone more than the apple flavour. Both have there merit but I love my N97
The N97 does have autocorrect but is known as "Prediction". If you want to enable prediction open a new text message and go to "options", then "input options" then "Activate Prediction". Cheers.
i have a iphone 3gs myself but i have used the n97 and its not a bad phone and with the multi tasking once you jail break you can use apps in the background and the 3gs has like 260mb of ram so theres no problems there and also with the camera comparison i igmit the iphones camera isnt up as many megapixels as it shud be but its still a very reasonalbal camera and there are applications to do more things like black and white etc...
i mean built in radio i did not include multitasking flash is still not integrated to ipod/iphone so we'll have to wait about that i meant full connectivity such as sending files with diff file ext than jpeg, mpg,mp3 .... full customizatio = put it there, change this, edit that, and so on. i have a itouch by d way. like to use it but i hate thinkering with it.
SUPERB!!!!!! great video with amazing persuasive powers! I'm going with the iPhone 3G-S--- if, of course, my parents actually let me. Not gonna happen. Great review though
Guys. Let me break it down for you. I have an iPhone 3GS, and my best friend has an N97. We traded phones, and he even said "iPhone is way faster, and much more fun", and so he sold his N97 to purchase an iPhone! Steve Jobs himself stated "We(Apple) decided to not incorporate a physical keyboard as its uses are limited. We designed it in that we may apply various add-ons, of which are exclusive to only virtual keyboards". This is why Apple did not use a physical keyboard.
I have a nokia n97 and I love it, Nokia will always remain better than any other company ( especially the hardware ) , and yes the interface sucks ....but the newer nokias have a great os which i have at n8.But mainly you're correct, Apple makes really good phones.
sorry bout the customization, just tried it last night. but the radio? ive searched almost every page i know and found nothing that tells me that the iphone have built in radio aside from the internet radio. if there is such an app then can you please tell me so i can prove that it does have one?
@therappingrabbits PLUS you have a Qwerty keyboard (and some people might whine "but the space-bar's in the wrong place". i've tried the keyboards of a bunch of cellphones and smartphones, and definitely the N97's spacebar on the keyboard is located in a convenient and "logical" place. i don't have to always "move my thumb over everything, to the middle of the keyboard, and then go back to typing". i can just move my right-thumb slightly low, press the spacebar key, and keep typing. it doesn't..
and it doesnt offer other features that i used to have b4. beside negative aspects iphone 3gs is a perfect internet device, perfect ipod (sound quality is amazing), best user friendly phone and very eye-taking design and some useful apps. what i was wondering about N97 is if u can download mp3s to ur phone directly from internet? or anything else. is is possible to download and use it? can someone answer me pls?
i have a n97 and it's like a mini lap-top, i can do everything in it. i'm very happy with my n97 and my kids are very entertained with their iphones as well.
@Lamech313 in combination with the multitouch enabled on the capacitive touchscreen of the iPhone it also feels much more natural (this goes for everything one does on the iPhone, such as scrolling through one's album or playing games etc.) and the scrolling of webpages is much more fluent. You see my friend, in the end it is not the hardware that counts but the software!
i think the best way to compare 2 phones is, for example, get someone who loves the n97 and knows it inside out and someone who loves the 3GS and knows it inside out, then they both battle it out, showing off the phone, so to speak..
well that's awesome and all, but iphone has a free app called Pandora, in which you can listen to only your favorite music decided on which artist or song you choose.
I would definitely go with the N97 Why?? Because it has a removable battery, 5mp camera, widescreen display, fm transmitter, full bluetooth capability, handwritting recognition, ability to use a stylus and diffrent connection modes to the pc. Also it has a symbian S60 OS with ability to customize the menu and grouping application into folders and subfolders, way better synchronization options, add themes and it has a file manager
Im a iphone 3gs owner, and yes iphone needs some improvements. iphone has no bluetooth transfer, fm radio and 3g cam. plus it doesnt give u option to delete mp3s directly from ur phone or make them ringtones. almost everything is done via itunes.
I'm tossing up between the Nokia and the iPhone, on the Nokia i love the fact it has multi-tasking and a physical keyboard, but with the iPhone i love the convince of the the amazing apps and the face i dont have to carry around a big phone and big iPod touch. What would you recomend.
@07liberian but it doesn't close the app, so it IS multitasking :P when you switch with the home button, you will open an app that you've left open earlier. that makes it multitasking =D but it makes your iPhone really SLOW after a while...
Hi therevivedone, Thanks for your effort in the first place. It is an interesting approach. n97 does have predinctive text, for sure it has been some how disabled on your phone. You have played a lot on your Iphone to be able to press that virtual keyboard so fast and precise. For me the ideal gadget must have features from both phones. Apple was one of the few that had understood what big difference can do a device with the screen all the same as the phones face. Bye!
omg so it means you cant just buy the 3gs for 299$ without a contract , only with contract ? Is there a way to buy it for 299 with this contract and then refuse from this contract , please respond .
1 think you need on iPhone to kickass - Cydia. You can download EVERYTHING for free from here. Tools for reeding office docs, sending files by bluetooth, addon for minimazing apps, video recorder (for non "s" models), themes and any stuff you need. Btw, about music. You don't need anything to listen music and doing something else same time. Just use mic (for click-click). 1 click play, 2 - next track, 3 - previous. And you can controll music anywere (in apps, sleep mode, etc).
hay... I have just seen this video and you have made a grate job.. but one little correction... iPhone has multitask capability... mine is jailbroken and it has "SB settings" and there is an option where it shows you all the processes that are running at the moment... example: right now I'm at the home screen, but sbSettings shows me that are running iBluetooth, Phone(is always running if you close it, you run out of signal), Safari and iPod... Sorry about mi English... from Argentina
They're both good phones. I have an iPhone 3G and the N97 really does appeal to me, but they're different phones. While the N97 is a great device with great networking features, the iPhone is a great device AND a great toy. If the same amount of developer interest was there for Symbian as there is for iPhone right now, I'm sure the N97 would be more of a competition.
You can see clearly the speedy of browsing the menus in iPhone, it looks much more better and faster than in Nokia's. I was in doubt between these phones, but now I do know I want iPhone!
my friend has a n97 and it freezes constantly and he has to wait 10 minutes before it works again. I have the 3GS and i cant see how any phone can be better.
You can actually use the keyboard on the computer to write sms and receive at the N97! And if you put on the fantastic FM transmitter so you can just connect the car radio! So You Have music in the car with decent bass!
I like this video a lot, the presenter is very informed about both phones. Thanks to let us know the best phone to pick, Also can somebody tell me why apple created a phone so nice worldwide recognized instead of Nokia? Because Nokia have more experience in phones than apple. Please somebody answer me this question.
5) Change the profile when I leave home (to a louder one) and when I arrive at work (to a silent one). 6) Show time and date in big size when the phone is locked and I press the menu key (using it as a watch). 7) Change the writting alphabet (I am Greek and I need to use both the greek and latin alphabets) with a long press of a button (you define which one, e.g. the call touch button). 8) Inform me when there is no signal. And so many many more. Can an iPhone ever do something similar?
1 question: app store- does it charge you for the internet connection and downloads? i once spent 10$ in 1 minute(i was typing something into the google thing or something) on my nokia on the internet, and i wasnt even aware of that...so, does it charge you or not? thx.
@W0iz i don't have either, but i am positive the Iphone 3gs is better. now i just need to decide, wait for Iphone 4gs, or buy the 3gs. i want one so bad though!
You missed the best bits out on the n97 and it's turning people of from getting it you didn't really compare them properlly each thing you said about them was the same with the other one , they both have cameras , they both have internet , not much compairing there . You could have gone into loads of other stuff with the nokia like the gps and navigation and the little sat nav thats built in..
Video is really good! I use N97 and call her Nbaby lol :) You can see how addicted I am. But I made my daddy buy Iphone 3GS as a new mobile. Both devices are really good, but the most important thing is your Personal Priorities*** I love Nokia N97 because it's the best for technical properties. It is fully qualified. On the other hand Iphone belongs to Apple! And you get some special preferences. Personally I don't want people to use N97 who may not use its features properly. :)
@georgeSud7 Yes. If you don't need a good camera, nor great GPS. And besides that, I heard that the newest iPhone 4 has and auto destructive screen (only in 15 C degrees) but that not a problem... in Africa.
@Lamech313 So it depends on the software and on the processor of the phone. One can't deny the fatc that the iPhone has a way better processor than the n97 (600Mhz vs 434Mhz). It only has more free space when you add another micro-sd card to the already installed 32 GB!!! Whether a physical keyboard is better or not is purely opinion! Could you please give me some examples of the allegdly better features it has other than it's open source (meaning you can install third party apps on it)
I had nokia 6220 classic and it's the same with background applications. I hated that I had to press options and then to search for exit from each application to close it, otherwise if i simply press the red button, it simply remains on background and it's only spending the battery faster...it's annoying. On the iphone 3GS, you just get out of each aplication and it's very simple to get back to it and to the same point where you left the aplication. So my opinion is that 3GS is better than N97
2:43 Future iPhones : Foreshadowing of Force Touch, Touch ID and Apple Pay :O
till today i am still using my nokia N97...in 2020....buts its my backup phone....only issue was the battery...replace it...and can still use ..still strong after 11 years ....
Why am I watching this in 2017? 😎

Your not late, why the heck am I watching this in 2020?
Why I'm watching this in 2021?
my brother had an iphone' his wife drop it, now, it doesnt work anymore, i drop many times my e71 and its still working, but i have to recognize iphone has better UI and web browser
just ordered an n97, thanks for your very comprehensive comparison and input mate. really hepled me decide. and all the comments too thanks... :-)
Great review. Good detail and really well presented. Great work!
Here is an example of what multitasking can do. On my N97 I have always running some backround applications that do the following automatically:

2) Record every call.
3) Remind me of incoming messages, emails or unanswered calls, every x minutes with sounds and vibrations.

good review you say good and bad things about each phones.
I have the N97 because its cheaper.
Excellent video man. I absolutely LOVE your videos.
No flash on iPhone and the camera on the N97 is a 5mp Carl Zeiss...
I still love Nokia N79
I had it before 7 years and now I gonna buy it again to keep it
legend lonely me to brother i love nokia
that's coz you're usin it. there are many who have that fone. it's quite fast compared to some other symbians and is fast for the features it offers. and for the freezing part, it verty rarely happens. i'm amazed at what it can handle. even with a skin, more than 300 apps, it still is very fast and doesn't freeze. for me that is. anyways don't talk bad abt the n97.
idk about multitasking, no u ave to buy apps for navigation, and u can use anything to transfer files into it
one thing to note as far at photography wise, the rule of thirds doesn't really apply in this case because as like all none SLR cameras the image will be cropped because your actually not looking through the lense, so regardless of whether you take the picture on the rule of thirds it will be cropped and will push it out of the rule of thirds,
Definitely something worth considering however the camera options are great on the N97 like ISO settings is something I didn't expect on a Mobile.
This vid is from the year I was born
@iamleon100 This was uploaded about a year before iOS 4, and multitasking, was released.
now i am asking you in 2020 apple or nokia
that's more like it. you see the advantages of the phone unlike some others.
so far which one do u like the best? and why? which would you recommend and why?
@NinjaSarah1 the iphone is only available at that price when its contracted by a phone company such as AT&T etc..
Nice review mate!
Honestly I really like both, especially the iPhone but the N97 is also a very good phone too! The 3GS might be like, a step ahead in terms or performance compared to the N97 and the price difference is quite huge considering I live in Malaysia. very nice review! does the N78 feature multi touch? thks

Father: Iphone fan.
Sister: Samsung fan.
Mother: Anything.
Me: MOTOROLA
iphone is capable to run any application in background with the help of softwr called "backgrounder". it's pretty useful to enable multitasking in your iphone, such as running instant messenger or yahoo music in background. just download it from cydia.
No way can the N97 be lacking auto-correct, did you check what setting your text input was on?
looking back I remember going crazy seeing the advert for this phone
wow, nice vid man :D good job love it :)
Im planning to buy a n 97.
The iphone is ok but Nokia has always been better, I have a n 78 (the worst of the N series) and is a great phone -at least for me- so I wonder, if the N 78 is great, how good will the n 97 be? The qwerty keyboard is a plus, I hate to type on the iphone's screen
how about bluetooth?GPS? WI-FI comparision?
hey man.. what video editor do you use??
the N97 does have auto-correction, there is a settings function while typing you can choose it to correct, predict or give you an option of alternate words so its more customizable.

The space bar is there for thumb-texters, the thumb would easily reach the space bar, that was very smart of Nokia to put the space bar there -.-
excellent, I really appreciated this comparison. Any ideas about HTC vs iphone?
Thanks, Annie Caird
i have a iphone 3gs myself but i have used the n97 and its not a bad phone and with the multi tasking once you jail break you can use apps in the background and the 3gs has like 260mb of ram so theres no problems there and also with the camera comparison i igmit the iphones camera isnt up as many megapixels as it shud be but its still a very reasonalbal camera and there are applications to do more things like black and white etc...
Thanks for a good comparison! I'm buying N97 :)
Let´s do a flashback... do you regret of that decition? 😝
5:28 and there is auto coryec correct
i mean built in radio
i did not include multitasking
flash is still not integrated to ipod/iphone so we'll have to wait about that
i meant full connectivity such as sending files with diff file ext than jpeg, mpg,mp3 ....
full customizatio = put it there, change this, edit that, and so on.
i have a itouch by d way.
like to use it but i hate thinkering with it.
SUPERB!!!!!!
great video with amazing persuasive powers!
I'm going with the iPhone 3G-S--- if, of course, my parents actually let me.
Not gonna happen.
Great review though
what is the battery life like in both of those phones? because i want to buy one of them :P
when does it come out?
This is why Apple did not use a physical keyboard.
the keybord in N97 is great. the reason is that the author used to use iphone's one.
@MrSoomer basically, if you are the type of gaming/app go for iphone, if you are for multimedia(camera/music player/qwerty) go for nokia
I agree! Also there are many good applications for Nokia N97 now. They always improve :)
I have a nokia n97 and I love it, Nokia will always remain better than any other company ( especially the hardware ) , and yes the interface sucks ....but the newer nokias have a great os which i have at n8.But mainly you're correct, Apple makes really good phones.
hello, what's the best phone for internet? something not too expensive. i want some suggestions, thanks
what kind of camera do you use to record these?
is there a huge difference in the weight?
sorry bout the customization, just tried it last night.
but the radio? ive searched almost every page i know and found nothing that tells me that the iphone have built in radio aside from the internet radio.
if there is such an app then can you please tell me so i can prove that it does have one?

and it doesnt offer other features that i used to have b4. beside negative aspects iphone 3gs is a perfect internet device, perfect ipod (sound quality is amazing), best user friendly phone and very eye-taking design and some useful apps.
what i was wondering about N97 is if u can download mp3s to ur phone directly from internet? or anything else. is is possible to download and use it? can someone answer me pls?
i have a n97 and it's like a mini lap-top, i can do everything in it. i'm very happy with my n97 and my kids are very entertained with their iphones as well.

Which should i get? How long does the battery on iPhone lasts (with wi fi and bluetooth off)
Im a iphone 3gs owner, and yes iphone needs some improvements. iphone has no bluetooth transfer, fm radio and 3g cam. plus it doesnt give u option to delete mp3s directly from ur phone or make them ringtones. almost everything is done via itunes.
I just wanna know which one you guys recommend?
I'm tossing up between the Nokia and the iPhone, on the Nokia i love the fact it has multi-tasking and a physical keyboard, but with the iPhone i love the convince of the the amazing apps and the face i dont have to carry around a big phone and big iPod touch. What would you recomend.

you dont have to press show open apps on the N97...
just hold the menu key

gud workk keep it up!!man

Does the iPhone take video at 16:9 ratio? And iPhone doesn't have flash if I am right.

I have nokia n95. and im diciding to buy a ne phone. and i like both of them? but which is better?
i guess if you set up properly the ·G conection with your carrier parameters..
I like this video a lot, the presenter is very informed about both phones. Thanks to let us know the best phone to pick, Also can somebody tell me why apple created a phone so nice worldwide recognized instead of Nokia? What about the x6? Or the upcomming X10?
5) Change the profile when I leave home (to a louder one) and when I arrive at work (to a silent one).
6) Show time and date in big size when the phone is locked and I press the menu key (using it as a watch).

Like? I would like to know what stops me from doing something so important on an iPhone that other multi tasking phones do and I phone doesn't?
@07liberian it is multitasking with the api of task completion! only if the developer wants it to
@W0iz i don't have either, but i am positive the Iphone 3gs is better.
now i just need to decide, wait for Iphone 4gs, or buy the 3gs. i want one so bad though!
the n97 keyboard doesnt have backlight?
@stoneheartjp13 lol why are you always mixing them together? :)
Can i ask what mega pixel both of the phones are?
@georgeSud7 Yes. If you don't need a good camera, nor great GPS. And besides that, I heard that the newest iPhone 4 has and auto destructive screen (only in 15 C degrees) but that not a problem... in Africa.
@icesvenni Isn't Android that smartphone Google stopped making?
