Ah the good old days of tech reviews, checking how many bars each device has! Sometimes I forget how far the review industry has come and Jon was one of the pioneers of it, I remember his unibody Macbook reviews sooooo well. Also RIP Blackberry
So UA-cam algorithm decided that I needed to see a review of BB vs. iPhone 3G from 13 years ago at the end of 2021. Good job guys....your AI is working flawlessly. Now if only I could find a BB Storm on sale on Cyber Monday that would be great.
I remember selling both phones a lot way back when I worked at a phone store. Good old times. Never was a fan of the Storm. And the mechanism of the touch screen failed too often.
You do have to have a data feature for any Blackberry. Verizon has a contract with Blackerry to do so. I work for Verizon, so if you have any questions, please ask!
He mentioned at 7:29 the BlackBerry Storm does not show the letter you are typing like the iPhone does. Actually it can. If you have a Storm 2 and would like to have that option, simply go to options from the main screen and then go to "Screen/Keyboard." Look for "Show Key Indicator" and choose either "On Touch and Hold" or "Always." You now will have the same feature that is found on iPhone! (hint: You can also change whether you want a full keyboard or suretype in portrait mode in this menu)
Without contract, you are looking at about $400 bucks each. I am not sure exactly what the storm is full retail but I know that the enV touch is $409.99 at full retail pricing.
@e1hamz Actually not, But wifi is included in the Storm 2 and older BB`s like the 8820 or the 9000. BIS = BlackBerry Internet Service , email service provided by the respective carrier BES = BlackBerry Enterprise Server, email service provided by a server ran by a company.
Hi Jon, Thanks very much for putting this video together. It was verryy helpful in putting my mind at ease about my new Blackberry Storm (which is enroute). I almost had buyer's remorse even before it came, so I appreciated hearing about the good points for a change. I was actually trying to decide between the BB Curve and the Storm, but went with the Storm because of screen size and touch screen features. Can't wait to play with it.
That was helpful, answered a lot of my questions but can't make my mind up. I also have the Nokia N97 in mind. With the storm, it didn't feel like a touch screen anymore, literally needed to "press"on the screen and i didn't like that it lacks the flickering thing. Everyone says the iPhone is safer which makes the situation more tricky.
actually, the iphones new software update available on the 19th of june (or 17th in some countries) allows multimedia messaging including audio messaging, picture and video messaging. Not sure about the storm though.
Ive had both and currently have a storm. Noone ever mentions GPS and the storms built in GPS is the best, Try that on the iphone. And yes there are plenty of applications for the storm. He is wrong too, you swipe at an angle and the zoom works fine on the storm storm is better hands down
I used to have both 3GS and Storm 2 at the same time, at that time blackberry has BBM alone is a big deal, while in my country internet provider only provide BBM internet service, so at that time blackberry was superior in term of services. the funny things is, if blackberry give software update to storm this day, they could implement 3D touch just like 6S without any modification on hardware
the only thing i dont really content about the black berry storm is it's full landscape keyboard. The keys are actually in checkered formation instead of a not -so neat formation on a actual computer keyboard. I think this is why you wouldn't type as accurate on the blackberry storm keyboard when its on the full landscape mode..
that said, and to b honest, if you really need corporate email and stuff, the bb is way ahead, so... BUT the iph is also usable under those conditions. Anyway, what a fantastic bunch of options to choose from! exciting to say the least...
Sorry to bump in, But the new IPhone 3G s is coming out June 19 and the 3.0Firmewire is coming out June 17 so the iphone will be recording videos and you can send videos, photos, contacts, audio, and videos
I haven't seen the Droid offered here in Canada but I shall have a look. AT&T in the USA sounds like Rogers AT&T here. Customer service and coverage both leave something to be desired.
I bought the Storm and love it. The e-mail feature was so easy to set up. I can access websites no problem and I could stay w/ Verizon which is better than AT&T where I live.
Mine freezes too sometimes so i see where your coming from on that note. Having to pull the battery can be kinda lame after awhile.. You probably could have just gotten a replacement though for free because the screen should always work.
6:13 is not totally accurate what you said you mentioned that storm's full keyboard is only when landscape but u can also use it when is portrait but excellent comparison just for the record for bussines storm for fun iphone ... just a thought
I have iPhone and I love it! It's fast and quick and does everything I expect a phone to do. Now, my dad has a bb bold. And so I tried it out, it was okay, but it always took time to load. I'm with Rogers and have an iPhone and I'm damn enjoying it!
It was a fair comparison for what was on the market then. I now use an iPhone 4s, but I also have a Samsung Galaxy S2. For the iPhone though it's still needs work on what the device offers you. Eg bluetooth, still crappy, 3G video calling still not available when this was a standard for all 3G phones when they first came out where as now I have to be connected to wifi and can only FaceTime other iOS users only. Apple has a few kinks to still work out in order for them to really be on top.
I've had an iPhone since day 1, and it's been awesome. The only complaint I have is not with the phone itself, but with AT&T. Once the AT&T/Apple contract expires, I'm hoping I'll be able to use any carrier, because AT&T reeks.
how can it come close to the iphone in browsing usability when you lack fluid ballistic scrolling and intuitive zooming? everything is cumbersome in the lookalikes...
got the storm in early june. great device. took about 2 full wks. to acquire feel. nobody beats Blackberry email. NOBODY.. your review was pretty accurate. and- i think storm's browser is pretty good, also.. best wishes, joe..
Some people are happy with it, some people are not. From my personal experience with it, it is great for a little while, but somewhere down the road, it begins to go down the wrong path. The one I had froze up a lot, crashed a lot, and was overall just falling apart before my eyes. Other people have had a similar experience, but not everyone has. Some people have had a perfect time with their Storm. It's a gamble, really.
Great video! I am a bit of an apple freak. I have a number of ipods including the touch a mac and in my office I have an imac. When I heard the iphone was coming out I was in a total dilemma. I bought a blackberry storm a few days ago and love it and it syncs with my mac perfectly. The clicky screen takes a bit of getting used to but its fine and the email services are excellent.
Storm just got the new 5.0.0.328 update. It's the same OS the new Storm will have. At least you don't have to go buy the same phone over and over again just to get a faster OS and new features. New Storm has wifi but with a data plan there's no real use for it. The new OS has made the first Storm really fast now with alot of great messaging features, slicker screen scrolling, faster accelerometer, faster camera and browser, better screen lock and screen to screen animated graphics.
i like iPhone coz i have it. The Blackberry that you showed for like a second looks nice and sleek. The BBS looks kinda bulky.. But ehh...still for iPhone; I'm used to it more.
does any one remember the cell phone from a while back where there was some kind of "attack" in the video and the too people in the commercial were using video conferencing to talk to each other i think it was an LG phone commerical, but i cant remember, can anyone help me out
This is very outdated now, been lots of updates since then for the iPhone at least, don't know if the BB has or not? I.E there's 2 new iPhones, a new O.S and another one soon to come.
This is GREAT! However I hope John does another comparison soon because this information is very dated on BOTH phones. Which now makes this very good comparison, inaccurate. Both phones are greatly improved since this comparison and the shortcomings of both these devices have been addressed.
can you trasfer/ recieve files from/to another mobile phone or to the computer? like music,videos.. i am asking because things from apple are a bit weird... as you need to use the itune all the time. so?:P
Blackberry. I like full keyboards that are long. I prefer to text one handed but if i text two handed I like there to be a lot of room. Also blackberry has the LED reminder for messages and other notifications which is always nice.
well the storm seems like a good choice if the verizon service where you live is good. but the blackberry tour 9630 looks like it could be a better choice, if you could go without a touchscreen.
so i need to get a new phone, but i still got about 1.5 years left on my contract sooo. i was thinking of getting a BB storm. just a few questions, 1. i dont have a data-plan just yet so can i still use the browser and receive e-mail through a wi-fi source. 2. im getting it brand new for 275$ in box, good deal or is their better for that price?
the only thing about the iphone is whenever you call someone ur cheek usually presses the end call button thats why i like the blackberry storm better because it has that button seperate
I have iphone and storm, storm is much better for me, verizon service is great, can't wait for storm 2 with wi-fi. Nice job with video Jon. Keep doing what you do.
what about GPS. WHICH ONE IS THE BEST? I WANT TO BUY ONE NEXT WEEK BECAUSE I WILL MOVE TO A NEW CITY. I NEDD GPS TO HELP ME WHEN I WALKING AND DRIVING. ESPECIALY THE SOUND GUIDE. PLEASE HELP ME.

Storm does support MMS. iPhone will in a little less than a month with the 3.0 software update (free).

Many companies use BlackBerry because it has earned a very nice reputation in the past few years.
you can also put the iphone in landscape mode and type that way too.. i think you missed that when you were comparing the keyboards
Blackberry software upgrade for storm now includes flick scroll. Vast improvement
there is also a sim card jack for the storm which will allow you to share your contract with At&t or T-mobile which is a fair deal to me =]
I don't know what black berry storm this guy is using but I LOVE the fact that you can flick scroll on the black berry storm

iPhones have spreadsheet apps, stocks, and a million other business apps.
