I have a feeling that the iPhone 3G was holding alot more memory considering working harder than the 3G S also the fact that the 3G was older so it has aged, whereas 3G S was alot newer. Something that has been bought brand new is obviously going to work alot better then something that has been used alot more. Think of it like a 2nd hand car against a brand new car. It's a theory to be put into perspective that's all.
Some people are a little confused on why this is a big deal. 1) If you already have a 3G, then it's up to you whether you should upgrade. The 3GS will be worth it to new buyers, especially those wanting the best on the market. 2) It's not just faster loading time, it's the better hardware that makes everything run smoother. Because things are optimized for the 3G, the 3GS will only make things even smoother, but in some apps (mainly games) you may experience a noticeable improvement.
More memory (or abundance of space), as with most hardware, tends to make for faster load times. 32GB v 8GB could have something to due with it i guess.
I dont know whether you can change the brightness on each phone but i'd imagine you can. The 3G appears to have a brighter screen, this could contribute to its slower response. Im probably wrong and unnecessarily picking holes in this but its just something I noticed.
its only because the 3gs has multi threading if you use the latest jailbreak for the 3g that enables multi threading on the 3g now so speeds are near enough identical
@dcb284 actaully, just say newer stuff is normally faster. 3gs is newer than 3g. its simply comparing a porsche 911 gt3 rs to a 1984 plymouth voyager. they're both cars which is faster? you make the call.
Not exactly. The amount of internal storage generally doesn't affect the speed, similarly to how the size of your car's trunk doesn't affect the speed of the car. You may be confusing it with RAM, which does contribute to the device's speed.
@Rapper0102 it's not really to "test" the speed rather then to prove to people that the 3gs is or isn't faster. most of the time when looking at the phones, you wouldn't have both side by side, so it's hard to compare speeds.
Hmm this shows how well OS 3.0 for the iphone is written it is using a processor that has just a little over half the power of the 1GHz snap dragon and it runs so much smotther bearing in the the UI with all its transistions and graphical effects are quite heavy. I have seen the devices that use the snap dragon and the speed on them in comparison to the 3GS 600mhz is neglible. Roll on a 1Ghz Iphone 3GS v 2 or whatever....
you forgot to mention the things that truly do matter in the speed of opening, etc of these apps and others. one of them being the processor inside of the iphone. i dont know if they upgrade that or not and make it bigger but i think that they would have to in order to make that big of a difference. also the GS is a different signal from at&t. it just means that it is stronger, or whatever it really means(does any one know?).
I'm buying an iPhone today, and this video helped me make my decision as to what model is best. With the 3GS, voice control, video camera, and Compass are also included. Very intelligent, intuitive device. The 3G regular is good but not super impressive like the 3GS.
@lpguitarsaregreat it can be very confusing but in fact is easy. 3G, in the case of Iphones, refers to the internet conection. it uses 3G data conection unlike the iphone 2G wich uses EDGE. When using 3G you can connect from anywhere, that is if you have signal that is.
@niksetanbaik Internal storage is different however all chip sets in iPhone 3G are the same no matter if its 8GB or 16GB. The fact is that iPhone 3Gs has double the ram and processor than the 3G.
I'd say yes from the iPhone 1 generation (2g) to the iPhone 7 Plus on which I am typing this. I started out with iPhone 4 /5/6 Plus and now 7 plus. Enjoyed every model very much. Fun to watch the older models I didn't own.
What do you think the lifespan will be on an Iphone? Im intending to spend £450 on a 3GS soon and I want to know whether it will last at least 3-4 years. I think the battery is the main thing that will concern me - because i don't know if you can replace it once it dies out? Any advice would be great - cheers
@icenoteclan Sorry but this isn't iOS 4 this is iOS 3 iOS 3 doesn't have the multitasking in it do you cant double tap the home button to close the apps.
Urbina duet, he wasn't using a 2G SIM card, he was using a 3G SIM card it was recieving EDGE at the Time but it eventually got back the 3G signal I love the iPhone 3GS !! I have one, and it works great! Infact, I wrote this comment on it ..
@gregslife7 Capacity actually does affect performance if only a little bit. The higher capacity models have faster throuput speeds to compensate for the size. So app loading would be faster on a higher capacity iphone 3g than on a lower capacity 3g. Maybe not by much, but benchmarks don't lie.
@TheGameFather142 i disagree i bought the 3g in august of 2009 and i've regretted not getting the 3gs for most of the time since, iphone 3g may be ok at first but it sure slows down with a couple of apps and some music....that's where the 3gs comes in handy and plus of course the video camera
@kickbut27 that's not true - apps shouldn't decrease the speed as there is always enought free memory for that (RAM). 32, 16 or 8GB is indifferent. The 3G is slower, than the 3GS. that's a fact - why should apple make a "faster" Iphone if it isn't faster ;) ?!
but then it adds up. it will add up to the point that if you worked the amount of time you didn't have to wait on the 3g your could buy the 3gs two times over
nice hand shaking !!! it worth the effort for just some people who love to see a practical test in front of their eyes, in the other hand for some others this test doesn't matter at all besides the 3gs absolutely has to be faster and smoother because it's higher better in price and generation so not that much brilliant to get excited about
@jamesdavid3 actually if you are using or playing a game ull see a big difference between the FPS rate, while one is running at 13fps the other will be at 33 fps look for iPhone 3G vs. 3GS - OpenGL ES Comparison , and the speed isn´t the only difference, u can have NATIVE multitasking with the ios 4.x and not just that, the GPS works better it has the compass the battery last longer and some other stuff...
it says no judgement at the beginning of the video, but half way through you put a "thumbs down" for the 3g yet continually put a "thumbs up" for the 3gs. isn't that judging something?
I wish he would have compared the quality of the pictures. I use to have the 3g as well, and decided to upgrade to the 3gs manly b/c I keep hearing about that awesome 3mp camera. Don't get me wrong the pictures look good on the 3gs, just not as bright and colorful as the 3g. :( I hardly ever use the camcorder.
this isnt as equal as a comparison then made out to be. One has the brightness turned up higher than the other, has a messages and emails. theyre even different sizes (GB wise) and i didnt count but they have a different number apps on there. all seemingly small, but if your seeing which one is a fraction of a second faster they play a big role. Dont get me wrong id choose teh 3Gs any day but im just throwing my 2 cents in
As a 3G owner, I must say my 3G already does everything I would want a 3GS to do, it looks exactly the same, and it's simply not worth shelling out $300 bucks on a 3GS upgrade just to save a couple of seconds here and there. The iPhone 4G is due to be released in June 2010 so I might upgrade to a 4G then.
@jejerard the iphone 4 costs a lot more though, i want an iphone and there is as brand new 3gs on ebay, but i would like an iphone 4 but i dont have enough money, what shoud i do?
I have a problem please help me!!! i downloaded itunes 9, it doesn't even have an app section in it's library and when i go to the movie section it just a text paper with a message that explain what you do in the movie section. it's just a text message!! what do i do please help!!
chances are this question has already been asked, however I don't feel like looking through over 1000 comments. So, I'm researching the iPhone for AT&T, does anyone know how the roaming and internet charges are assessed, I've heard rumors of $500 bills and worse. I was wondering on how to avoid that and any unnecessary charges Any response will be appreciated.
I just got a 16gb 3gS on ebay for $357!!! should I keep it or sell it? I have the iphone 2g right now unlocked on T-mobile and love it! Other than camcorder, and the obvious space boost, what are benefits of 3gs over 2g? Thanks!
i'd like to see a speed test with the 3G running the software desinged for it (Ios2) and the 3gs running it's (IOS3) since supposedly new IOSes slow down the 3G
I got a 3gs last week after owning a few different touch phones like the jet and htc hero and its miles better than both.......after only a week i wouldnt want to be without it.
I can tell you coming from using an iPhone 2G for over two years (Running on 3.1.3 Jailbroken as of last) and now using a 3GS (running Jailbroken 4.0)....the 3GS is SO much faster. The 2G and 3G both have the same processor clock of 412 MHz - the 3GS has a 600 MHz clock, so the 3GS should be faster at most tasks than a 3G or 2G.
@RizzleRhi At this point, its not seconds faster.. With ios 4, and now ios5, the iPhone 3G is missing multitasking and notification center. Imagine youre browsing the web, and every page loaded 20 seconds later.

@IBRiZZZ i agree. the bigger the amount of memory the more ram. it also depends on what apps are running in the background such as mail and safari which never stop running. very unfair matchup

2019
Its 2011
I remember watching this when I got my 3GS after a year of having my 3G
iPhone 3GS was my first and favorite iPhone. I now have 6SPlus but there was something about that phone that was so great.
i know what is that it is that you had to learn everything cause iOS was new to you .... now you know everything on iPhone 6
I have a feeling that the iPhone 3G was holding alot more memory considering working harder than the 3G S also the fact that the 3G was older so it has aged, whereas 3G S was alot newer. I find this really funny 😆

@@richardespinoza2839 I have a Z Flip 6 and couldn't care less about Apple.
I miss my old iphone 3g :'(

Still using a iPhone 3GS sucks like hell friking laggy
+Jared Koh They're great cheap phones like the Honor 5x and Moto G that you can get for less then 200.
@BreezyD4L That 8/16/32GB is harddrive space, not RAM... And the extra apps weren't running so you can't really use that one either.
who's watching in 2017? :)
its only because the 3gs has multi threading if you use the latest jailbreak for the 3g that enables multi threading on the 3g now so speeds are near enough identical
Who watching 2018 :'v
what the GS does somehow though is it allows the phone to communicate faster with at&t servers in order to authenticate the apps/movies/etc.
@dcb284 actaully, just say newer stuff is normally faster. 3gs is newer than 3g. its simply comparing a porsche 911 gt3 rs to a 1984 plymouth voyager. they're both cars which is faster? you make the call.
The iPhone does tend to get slower as time passes and you add and remove programs to it. Were both relatively new, or was the 3G older?
Not exactly. The amount of internal storage generally doesn't affect the speed, similarly to how the size of your car's trunk doesn't affect the speed of the car. You may be confusing it with RAM, which does contribute to the device's speed.

@BreezyD4L 8GB is not RAM, it's the amount of storage. It has no effect on the speed of it.
Hmm this shows how well OS 3.0 for the iphone is written it is using a processor that has just a little over half the power of the 1GHz snap dragon and it runs so much smotther bearing in the the UI with all its transistions and graphical effects are quite heavy. what are those red small signals on the phone and email apps? (in 3g iphone)
it seems like the rolando app may have a save feature? that could be why it was slower, because it had more saved memory to load

The fact is that iPhone 3Gs has double the ram and processor than the 3G.
Watching this on my iPhone 6 Plus in 2014.
Fun to see how the iPhone family has grown.
Same lol I remember getting the 3G when it came out I love the old iPhones better but I love my 6+
+Jesus Christ shit!! jesus christ have a account on youtube
I'd say yes from the iPhone 1 generation (2g) to the iPhone 7 Plus on which I am typing this. I started out with iPhone 4 /5/6 Plus and now 7 plus. Enjoyed every model very much. Fun to watch the older models I didn't own.
so you have the one one the right running at obviously a lower brightness setting. I'm sure this has something to do with the processing of it all
also if you see closer the 3G is set on egde and the 3Gs on 3G. which obviously makes d 3Gs even more faster for working on net..
The youtube comparison is not really fair as the 3G version is only running on EDGE while the 3GS is on a 3G connection.
4:52 nice trick, How did you change 3G to Edge (in iphone 3g) so quickly?
What do you think the lifespan will be on an Iphone? Im intending to spend £450 on a 3GS soon and I want to know whether it will last at least 3-4 years. Wie willst du die denn sonst vergleichen? Hättest du gerne, dass da noch ein paar Special Effects?
@icenoteclan
Sorry but this isn't iOS 4 this is iOS 3
iOS 3 doesn't have the multitasking in it do you cant double tap the home button to close the apps.
u should of planned what app to launch ahead of time, and also restore the devices and put the exact amount of apps on both
Urbina duet, he wasn't using a 2G SIM card, he was using a 3G SIM card it was recieving EDGE at the Time but it eventually got back the 3G signal I love the iPhone 3GS !! I have one, and it works great! Infact, I wrote this comment on it ..

@niksetanbaik False, they use the same processor/RAM just a different ammount of Flash Space...
@sportmaniac9 its still clear which one is faster, the 3GS, half a second is not going to make a difference.
@niksetanbaik
thats only memory. what matters is the CPU and the ram. thats what makes the speed.
@JackharrisTV its not the memory its different version the iphone 3g and iphone 3gs are different versions
@TheGameFather142 i disagree i bought the 3g in august of 2009 and i've regretted not getting the 3gs for most of the time since, iphone 3g may be ok at first but it sure slows down with a couple of apps and some music....that's where the 3gs comes in handy and plus of course the video camera
is there any external differance? besides the words on the back being harder too see on the ipone 3G?
@gameyguy iphone4 doesnt have a curved back which makes it really uncomfortable in your hand so id say the 3GS is better as well
@Labrator
Compare the prices, y is iphone 3GS more expensive if itz just got a bit more speed? The palm pre is much faster than the |3GS
@phonedog cool i live in oakland, which do you think is better Iphone 4 or Iphone 3GS?
@darryllisa98 how can you tell the speed of the software by doing that? and why would you wanna know witch one that lasts longest in the water ?
@thegoku999 actually with 32Go the iPhone is suposed to be lower...
how the idea of the test is to show how much faster the 3GS actually is (and if it lives up to what apple claimed)
This is looking good. I just ordered the 3GS.
@eXxtrazZz lol...so i supose you still have a DOS computer? or do u still use the Apple II?
@kickbut27 that's not true - apps shouldn't decrease the speed as there is always enought free memory for that (RAM). 32, 16 or 8GB is indifferent. The 3G is slower, than the 3GS. that's a fact - why should apple make a "faster" Iphone if it isn't faster ;) ?!

@hassekarl Just to see which one spoil first..the 3Gs or the 3G
it says no judgement at the beginning of the video, but half way through you put a "thumbs down" for the 3g yet continually put a "thumbs up" for the 3gs.
isn't that judging something?

@tOrii08 I think he did that to show which iPhone won. But then again you have to judge to make comparisons or this video will be pointless .
it doesn't matter how much apps the 3g or 3gs have, since they don't use up any processing power by just being there.
this isnt as equal as a comparison then made out to be.
One has the brightness turned up higher than the other, has a messages and emails. theyre even different sizes (GB wise) and i didnt count but they have a different number apps on there.
all seemingly small, but if your seeing which one is a fraction of a second faster they play a big role.
Dont get me wrong id choose teh 3Gs any day but im just throwing my 2 cents in
good video but you could cut the the running time by removing the unnecessary gestures.
What i think was a bit unfair is that the 2 dont have the same memory and data so it could take one of them longer to load the apps and stuff.
@jejerard the iphone 4 costs a lot more though, i want an iphone and there is as brand new 3gs on ebay, but i would like an iphone 4 but i dont have enough money, what shoud i do?

Doesn't exceed it in what ? Camera ?
Is this true? What else is different in the 32gb vs 16gb phones other than storage space? The processors? I'm about to buy one and I'd like to know
I just got a 16gb 3gS on ebay for $357!!!
should I keep it or sell it? I have the iphone 2g right now unlocked on T-mobile and love it! Other than camcorder, and the obvious space boost, what are benefits of 3gs over 2g?
Thanks!
Thanks for the vid, gotta know, what is that track????
@Funnybaby1248 is the iPhone 3Gs even still available ?
with the video test, die left one was running on edge and the right one on 3G. Thats why it loaded slower.
i'd like to see a speed test with the 3G running the software desinged for it (Ios2) and the 3gs running it's (IOS3) since supposedly new IOSes slow down the 3G
I got a 3gs last week after owning a few different touch phones like the jet and htc hero and its miles better than both.......after only a week i wouldnt want to be without it.
Do you think it may have something to do with 1 being a 8GB and the other being 32GB.
@RizzleRhi No we don't have problems. We just want to run iOS 5 and have a better and faster mobile than the 3G.
Who's watching in 2021!
so what's recommended? 3GS or 4? i know 4 is new and faster but out of experience or 'comfortable' ness, which one?
@sheep955 u think harddrive has something to do with processor speed ?
@RizzleRhi At this point, its not seconds faster.. With ios 4, and now ios5, the iPhone 3G is missing multitasking and notification center. Imagine youre browsing the web, and every page loaded 20 seconds later.
@ashkeyz Power usage has nothing to do with down or up speeds.
um i would but i dont think u want it now since its out of service and it dont turn on or anything any more for some reason
we never ask u bout the service provider we ask to demonstrate the speed on both items
@brainslay3r actually it does, i have both the 3gs, and a 3g both 32gb, and yes the 3gs is faster but like maybe half a sec faster, then i do the 3gs 8gb, and the 3g 32gb, and its way faster than the 3gs, so yes the chip size does matter!
@eXxtrazZz
Its ok if you have a iphone 3g but if you have the money and you would buy a i phone, a new one, what did you buy ?
so which one is better , your phone on the left or mine on right ??
@DomiKamp14 i think he had the first iphone which is a slow iphone 2g released @ 2007(with gprs internet) no umts/hsdpa
Where can I get iPhone 3G/3GS cases online??
Shouldnt you take into consideration that the 3g has more stuff inside it than the 3gs? Seemingly he've had the 3g for a while longer than the 3g. You can notice this at the playlist.
Or i dunno. Just sayin'
@MrCareLeS you can change the brightness of the screen on settings. =)
im using norwegian network its a sim card called Lebara i think its in the usa too...
Lebara should work becouse when in put in my mothers it works perfedt with 3g and edge ..
@kennethkeymer619
3gs features videocamera and compass
plus the sensitivity of the tilt/shake sensor increased
have the monthly phone bills gone down for the Iphone yet?
Clearly you used the 3G one more than the 3GS. Also it is very important to turn them both off and on before doing these tests. It would have also made it more accurate if you cleared the iphones and only installed the apps you were going to test, without launching them ever before the tests.
@IBRiZZZ i agree. the bigger the amount of memory the more ram. it also depends on what apps are running in the background such as mail and safari which never stop running. very unfair matchup
@niksetanbaik different size flash memory wont change anything in a speed test..
