This was a great unbiased review. I really appreciate when someone gives the Storm a fair chance. If you give yourself time to adjust to the clicking screen, you can really come to love it. I've owned a Storm for a while now, and since the new firmware leaked, I've been in heaven. It's essentially a Storm 2 just without the Wifi, new screen, or extra memory.
Yes, but he said that he got the blackberry storm 2 a few days ago but was using the iphones for 3 years so he is obviously more adept at using the iphone keyboard as opposed to the blackberry storm's keyboard.
AFAIK you can do some multi-touch on the Storm 2, when doing capital letters when texting you can use the Shift button and the letter button at the same time.
There is a full keyboard on landscape and portrait on the storm 2 and there is also a character popup for the keyboard like on the iphone so you can see what you're typing. You weren't using the latest operating system and did have the screen/keyboard settings set properly. Your video is not disclosing the storm 2 in full.
there are many other factors that affect ur internet connection speed.... service provider and traffic on the network are just two that make alot more difference than we may think... does not necessarily mean the BlackBerry itself is slow at browsing
@Antsman23 it did zoom but the iphone is the only phone with multi touch technology as it was developed by apple. So the reason it probably zoomed was because of the pressing on the screen.
Skype is in beta and i have tested it which a browser that supports Flash, also RIM has already bought and busy employing people to develop a java / webkit browser which should improve devices.
Everytime you say "It's a draw", it kind of feels like you're saying that cause you don't want to be labeled an iphone fan or something like that. I mean.. Is it just me, or is there a huge difference between the iphones scrolling then on the black berry? I mean.. Which you will prefer? Multi touch or not? Isn't it pretty obvious that multi touch will make it easier and more natural no matter what?
Ok I don't know about the storm 2 but I'm on my second storm 1 and its having the SAME exact problems as my first one. I ordered the storm 2 a few hours ago hopefully it won't turn out like the storm 1.
well if u want apps and wanna just like chill with the phone and screw around get the 3GS, but it will get boring, it wont stay thaat much fun soon. the storm 2 also has fun stuff like themes, brickbreaker and other stuff, but if ur a texter or stay in contact with people a lot, get the storm 2, considering it also has BBM. i would recommend getting the blackberry tour though :)
@kalijasin Again it wasn't the Storm 2, but after the experiences I had with my first Blackberry (pulling the battery every day despite closing apps, the phone freezing) I decided to never go back. I honestly had to replace the phone more than 4 times (after that I stopped counting, lol) with new/refurbished phones over the course of 2 years. Again, this is a discussion on the Storm 2 so this comment is a little bit out of context- I just don't want anyone else to go through this hell.
Yes, it was just thinking he was double tapping. The Storm does do multi-touch, just not pinch and zoom. FWIW, double tap is easier anyway since you can operate and hole the phone completely with one hand. Both nice phones, but don't forget to consider the network...
Actually...you CAN see what key you are pressing on the BB Storm2. Options-->Screen/Keyboard-->Show Key Indicator. I think it was designed for you not to need it, but it's there if you want it! - love Storm2! =D
You're right. Multi-touch means it can sense "MULTIPLE" touches. And it does that when you copy/paste! It makes no sense to say it doesnt have "multi-touch" and then USE the feature later on! lol good review none the less.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the Storm didn't correct you when you typed "Ftill" instead of "still" I've entered a competition to win a Storm2. If I won it I'd just sell/swap it or a 3GS. I'm typing this on my 3G by the way. Blackberry's don't appeal to me whatsoever. The OS looks rubbish, and feels rubbish when I use my friends' Blackberry's. Note this is just a PERSONAL OPINION.
just a quick correction. the storm2 does have multitouch. you can press multiple buttons at the same time... (example shift+letter to get capital in message/email) they're very different beasts.
I'm debating which one to upgrade to...my husband is buying me one tomorrow...I cant wait...I think I'm going with the blackberry storm...whatdya guys think?
@gustavotriqui The problem that you are referring to has been solved with update through iTunes, when Apple was informed of the problem they made a update in a week. Research a bit about Apple production process and products (not just phones) and you will be surprised how advanced they are compared to their competitors.
My 9550 is great, but I really miss those amazing iphone applications. Like the yell that you want to sock Owen Wilson in the mouth because you went outside of a metropolitan area and have no coverage game. AT&Ts lousy customer service was bad enough, but having to find someone with a Verizon phone whenever I wanted to make a call in Mammoth and Squaw was the kicker. These browser speed comparisons really need to come with a disclaimer.
Actually, you could make the keyboard letters pop up on the storm 2, go to options and go in 'Screen/Keyboard'. Scroll down until you see 'Show Key Indicator'. By default it will say 'Never'. Select 'Always' then save changes.
I have a Storm 1 and actually with the release of the new 5.0 os, there is momentum (flick) scrolling and also is much faster. Like somebody said you can have a full keyboard in portrait mode, but the buttons are pretty close making it impractical to use. I haven't personally used the Storm 2 yet but its pretty clear that RIM has caught up with Apple in just one year's time for a touch device.
Yes the year is 2023 and the hottest phone on the block is the Blackberry Storm 14 Pro Max. After the BlackBerry storm 2 took the tech industry by “storm” with clicking displays and an almost unusable OS. Apple was forced to discontinue iPhone and file for bankruptcy as they just couldn’t keep up with the fast pace of RIMS innovation.
actually the storm2 does indeed have multi touch they just hav not incorporated pinch and pan in the storm2 try tapping to iconS at the same time on the home screen and dont click just tap there will be 2 blue highlights over 2 buttons
Jon, as a professional technology reviewer I want to hear who YOU think has a better implementation. Yes, for the buyer it will come down to personal preference, but we want your opinion. Who YOU think is better... Not that 'it's a draw'.
BB doesn't have multi touch? yes it does, u can highlight multiple messages using 2 fingers.. yes it doesn't have pinch zoom but that's incorrect to say it doesn't have 'multi touch' as such.
@Mattsana i don't know what you mean? but the iphone isn't at all what it's hyped up to be. i have a blackberry and the itouch, the perfect combination.
Don't you guys fucking get it? Want it or not, the iPhone is and will be for a long time the BEST phone on the market. There is no such thing as an "iPhone killer" and never will be. I suggest that RIM and every other phone companies release their phones not with the mentality of beating the iPhone, but on a mentality of having something different and unique. While they keep trying to beat the iPhone, they will always fail.
Very nice review. Helpful to me as a person leaving sprint in a few days and trying to decide between these two phones. It almost looked like you were using multi-touch to zoom in on the storm, were you actually just double clicking by putting both fingers down? Thanks for the great video.
The iPhone has haptic if your willing to jailbreak or you purchase a jailbroken iPhone. I think one thing you missed in this review is that point, you open a whole ton of features when you jailbreak the iPhone.
The sure press of the storm looks great but may also be considered a negative if the noise will drive people around you crazy. i hate the sound of people texting with the clicky click click
on the blackberry, when in portrait mode hit the blackberry button, then find "show full keyboard" so you have a full keyboard on the phones upright position instead of the T9 or sure type method.
Good job balckberry way to stay in the game and to let every one know.. The blackberry doesn't suck how many versions of the iPhone came out since it was released like 5
Christ on a bike, these things run like model T foods compared to todays devices. Imagine 5 years from now I'll be saying the same thing. Wearables are the future - mark my words!
I had a Blackberry Storm for 2 years and it made my life a complete hell. I upgraded to an iPhone 4 recently and the difference is nice and day. If you are into pulling your battery, waiting for the phone to unfreeze, and having to swap in your phone every few months because it is unusable, the Storm is the phone for you.
Great historical video to watch after seeing the new Blackberry movie

Yes, but he said that he got the blackberry storm 2 a few days ago but was using the iphones for 3 years so he is obviously more adept at using the iphone keyboard as opposed to the blackberry storm's keyboard.
It sure looked like you were zooming in using multitouch on the BB when you were explaining how it didn't have multi touch.
Damn your right. The storm registered the two fingers there = Multi Touch. The other is pinch and zoom I guess.
@LouieLagman The Storm 2 does have multi-touch. I don't know why he said it doesn't. Look it up on Google.
Looking back at this, iphone was so ahead of competition back in the day.....
@joblenis and as hes zooming he says "As you see, you can not pinch to zoom" but it's zooming as he's pinching!
I like that Jon does not say final verdict who won and lets people decide which is best.
anyone notice him talking about the storm not being able to pinch zoom in the browser while he was pinch zooming?
Remember those days :(
AFAIK you can do some multi-touch on the Storm 2, when doing capital letters when texting you can use the Shift button and the letter button at the same time.

@ amusicthang
Yea I just noticed that too, he was pinch zooming at 5:50. Weird...
You can get the "letter" to show when typing if you set it up in the settings.
@holycrapitshim09 because he was wrong and it does have multi-touch. The browser just doesn't support pinch to zoom.
@Antsman23 it did zoom but the iphone is the only phone with multi touch technology as it was developed by apple. So the reason it probably zoomed was because of the pressing on the screen.
no, the iphone and iphone 3g didn't have landscape keyboards while texting and such
dude i did a little digging regarding that and apple says there's no way the iphone gets to verizon if they refuse to move to 3gsm
@JayD544: there is multi-touch, but it is not used for zoom (yet). That's what I meant. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
Skype is in beta and i have tested it which a browser that supports Flash, also RIM has already bought and busy employing people to develop a java / webkit browser which should improve devices.
was it me or did it zoom in when you did the multi touch on the blackberry storm 2 ...
the storm 2 does have multi-toucb, its just not implemented in the browser and not implemented in the same ways
the back apple doesn't light up. the battery isn't removable so i don't think you're able to get an additional battery pack
Jon are you going to get the droid?
@jay43868 Im still using my old 3gs, hopefully getting a 4s in he near future though
storm 2 just got its head blown off by not having that ow so important feature, the all mighty MULTI-Touch of the all mighty IPHONE 3GS!
Ok I don't know about the storm 2 but I'm on my second storm 1 and its having the SAME exact problems as my first one. I ordered the storm 2 a few hours ago hopefully it won't turn out like the storm 1.
You can make the letters pop up in the blackberry by going to options > Screen/Keyboard > Popup keys :D
the storm 2 scrolling looks a bit laggy or it has a delay of some sort
@dbc1324 yes. there is an app for that.
well if u want apps and wanna just like chill with the phone and screw around get the 3GS, but it will get boring, it wont stay thaat much fun soon. the storm 2 also has fun stuff like themes, brickbreaker and other stuff, but if ur a texter or stay in contact with people a lot, get the storm 2, considering it also has BBM. i would recommend getting the blackberry tour though :)

@kalijasin Again it wasn't the Storm 2, but after the experiences I had with my first Blackberry (pulling the battery every day despite closing apps, the phone freezing) I decided to never go back. I need help! I currently have a iPhone 3GS but I really like the storm 2
I feel your pain man. I don't like the Storm 1, but have you been installing the system updates?
The last Storm I saw seemed pretty decent now.
He isn't biased, that was a very fair review.
can u use storm in places you have internet signals, even if you dont get a data plan?
You're right. Multi-touch means it can sense "MULTIPLE" touches. And it does that when you copy/paste!
It makes no sense to say it doesnt have "multi-touch" and then USE the feature later on! lol
good review none the less.
wat happened to the palm pre?

If the BB Storm 2 has a multi-touch capabilities, it would be a great phone.
