This was a great unbiased review. I really appreciate when someone gives the Storm a fair chance. If you give yourself time to adjust to the clicking screen, you can really come to love it. I've owned a Storm for a while now, and since the new firmware leaked, I've been in heaven. It's essentially a Storm 2 just without the Wifi, new screen, or extra memory.
My iPhone 3GS broke today. My dad's giving me his Storm 2 until I can upgrade to a newer iPhone next year in july. To be honest I'm not bothered as they're both damn good phones!
@Antsman23 it did zoom but the iphone is the only phone with multi touch technology as it was developed by apple. So the reason it probably zoomed was because of the pressing on the screen.
AFAIK you can do some multi-touch on the Storm 2, when doing capital letters when texting you can use the Shift button and the letter button at the same time.
Very nice review. Helpful to me as a person leaving sprint in a few days and trying to decide between these two phones. It almost looked like you were using multi-touch to zoom in on the storm, were you actually just double clicking by putting both fingers down? Thanks for the great video.
just a quick correction. the storm2 does have multitouch. you can press multiple buttons at the same time... (example shift+letter to get capital in message/email) they're very different beasts.
you can go show what key you are pressing in the storm 2 as well go to settings screen/keyboard and scroll down to show key indicator and set it to always
There is a full keyboard on landscape and portrait on the storm 2 and there is also a character popup for the keyboard like on the iphone so you can see what you're typing. You weren't using the latest operating system and did have the screen/keyboard settings set properly. Your video is not disclosing the storm 2 in full.
Actually...you CAN see what key you are pressing on the BB Storm2. Options-->Screen/Keyboard-->Show Key Indicator. I think it was designed for you not to need it, but it's there if you want it! - love Storm2! =D
I had the Storm 1, 3GS, and now 4S.. I'm still thinking of getting the storm because I LOVED the click screen! Is the storm 2 a good phone? How about battery life?
Actually, you could make the keyboard letters pop up on the storm 2, go to options and go in 'Screen/Keyboard'. Scroll down until you see 'Show Key Indicator'. By default it will say 'Never'. Select 'Always' then save changes.
there are many other factors that affect ur internet connection speed.... service provider and traffic on the network are just two that make alot more difference than we may think... does not necessarily mean the BlackBerry itself is slow at browsing
@kalijasin Again it wasn't the Storm 2, but after the experiences I had with my first Blackberry (pulling the battery every day despite closing apps, the phone freezing) I decided to never go back. I honestly had to replace the phone more than 4 times (after that I stopped counting, lol) with new/refurbished phones over the course of 2 years. Again, this is a discussion on the Storm 2 so this comment is a little bit out of context- I just don't want anyone else to go through this hell.
I had a Blackberry Storm for 2 years and it made my life a complete hell. I upgraded to an iPhone 4 recently and the difference is nice and day. If you are into pulling your battery, waiting for the phone to unfreeze, and having to swap in your phone every few months because it is unusable, the Storm is the phone for you.
on the blackberry, when in portrait mode hit the blackberry button, then find "show full keyboard" so you have a full keyboard on the phones upright position instead of the T9 or sure type method.
just so you know, the have a full keyboard for the vertical position also, just hit the blackberry menu button and change from the reduced keyboard to the full keyboard
its kind of unfair to be compairing 3Gs with blackberry as s stands for speed so obviously will have faster web browser loading time. You should compare it to the normal 3G.
AT&T does actually have a few places where they have better signal. But, the actual signal displayed on the phone is not necessarily directly related to the quality of service. We have a Storm 1 and iPhone 3G and the iPhone shows more bars in some places, but drops calls and has worse call quality overall. Also, in the bus tunnel in Seattle the Storm can get internet connectivity while the iPhone is completely dead. AT&T is the reason we did not upgrade to the 3G(s). No more phones on AT&T.
Yes, but he said that he got the blackberry storm 2 a few days ago but was using the iphones for 3 years so he is obviously more adept at using the iphone keyboard as opposed to the blackberry storm's keyboard.
I honestly have never experienced any of the problems of AT&T that I always see people complaining about. I've never lost service randomly or ever had a call been dropped. Everything has always worked flawlessly, and the same goes for everyone I know who are also on the same network.
Multi touch means that the device can distinguish more than one touch signal at a time (for example more than just one finger). As far as I know the new Storm does not support that feature
BB doesn't have multi touch? yes it does, u can highlight multiple messages using 2 fingers.. yes it doesn't have pinch zoom but that's incorrect to say it doesn't have 'multi touch' as such.
well if u want apps and wanna just like chill with the phone and screw around get the 3GS, but it will get boring, it wont stay thaat much fun soon. the storm 2 also has fun stuff like themes, brickbreaker and other stuff, but if ur a texter or stay in contact with people a lot, get the storm 2, considering it also has BBM. i would recommend getting the blackberry tour though :)
Everytime you say "It's a draw", it kind of feels like you're saying that cause you don't want to be labeled an iphone fan or something like that. I mean.. Is it just me, or is there a huge difference between the iphones scrolling then on the black berry? I mean.. Which you will prefer? Multi touch or not? Isn't it pretty obvious that multi touch will make it easier and more natural no matter what?
I have a Storm 1 and actually with the release of the new 5.0 os, there is momentum (flick) scrolling and also is much faster. Like somebody said you can have a full keyboard in portrait mode, but the buttons are pretty close making it impractical to use. I haven't personally used the Storm 2 yet but its pretty clear that RIM has caught up with Apple in just one year's time for a touch device.
Yes the year is 2023 and the hottest phone on the block is the Blackberry Storm 14 Pro Max. After the BlackBerry storm 2 took the tech industry by “storm” with clicking displays and an almost unusable OS. Apple was forced to discontinue iPhone and file for bankruptcy as they just couldn’t keep up with the fast pace of RIMS innovation.
@Mattsana i don't know what you mean? but the iphone isn't at all what it's hyped up to be. i have a blackberry and the itouch, the perfect combination.
Good review. Both phones are powerful and intuitive devices. I'm a BB addict and have waited patiently for the S2. iPhone lost out with me simply because of AT&T. AT&T service out here is horrid. I love the broad range of Apps for the iPhone but will admit that the BB is still more business oriented and suits me better overall. Can't wait to see the next gen of both devices. Its only going to get better!
@gustavotriqui The problem that you are referring to has been solved with update through iTunes, when Apple was informed of the problem they made a update in a week. Research a bit about Apple production process and products (not just phones) and you will be surprised how advanced they are compared to their competitors.
Hi I think of getting an Iphone 3gs but they said even a blackberry touch can make it, what do you think I should get, the prices are close but black a little more expensive
actually the storm2 does indeed have multi touch they just hav not incorporated pinch and pan in the storm2 try tapping to iconS at the same time on the home screen and dont click just tap there will be 2 blue highlights over 2 buttons
Yes, it was just thinking he was double tapping. The Storm does do multi-touch, just not pinch and zoom. FWIW, double tap is easier anyway since you can operate and hole the phone completely with one hand. Both nice phones, but don't forget to consider the network...
Correct me if I'm wrong but the Storm didn't correct you when you typed "Ftill" instead of "still" I've entered a competition to win a Storm2. If I won it I'd just sell/swap it or a 3GS. I'm typing this on my 3G by the way. Blackberry's don't appeal to me whatsoever. The OS looks rubbish, and feels rubbish when I use my friends' Blackberry's. Note this is just a PERSONAL OPINION.
Christ on a bike, these things run like model T foods compared to todays devices. Imagine 5 years from now I'll be saying the same thing. Wearables are the future - mark my words!
There are so many choices now. I like the storm and with many of the issues resolved this phone is a very good contender to almost any phone on the market. At the end of the day every phone has positives and negitives. Overall I like the new updates on the Storm 2. Multitouch is still needed for better web browsing.
I think it depents on how strong the connection is with the internet. And i think there is a huge different between verizon and at&t if you throw it on internet signals etc.
Jon, as a professional technology reviewer I want to hear who YOU think has a better implementation. Yes, for the buyer it will come down to personal preference, but we want your opinion. Who YOU think is better... Not that 'it's a draw'.

if you're going to use a blackberry for business. I would not recommend using a storm. The other black berries are great for business and email b/c it has an actual keyboard

can u use storm in places you have internet signals, even if you dont get a data plan?
Hey, what did you use to film this video with? Thanks
Here from 2023. Reading Losing the Signal. Has seen the Storm 1 IRL but not the Storm 2. Fun to look back
you can go show what key you are pressing in the storm 2 as well go to settings screen/keyboard and scroll down to show key indicator and set it to always
I feel your pain man. I don't like the Storm 1, but have you been installing the system updates?
The last Storm I saw seemed pretty decent now.
i have only just ordered a storm 2. MANNNNN I CANT WAIT TILL IT COMESSSSSSS

i cant pick one... so what you think is the best in your opinion ??
there are many other factors that affect ur internet connection speed.... service provider and traffic on the network are just two that make alot more difference than we may think... does not necessarily mean the BlackBerry itself is slow at browsing
You have the option for two letters per button or one on the vertical screen of the Storm 2.
You can get the "letter" to show when typing if you set it up in the settings.
This guy always does great reviews that do not show bias. Very nice! But I'll still probably go Android next time!
I am getting a Blackberry 2 I'm stoked about it.

I dont have either of these. I use my new HTC Imagio and am in love =P
The storm essentially had "3d touch", before the iphone did. Apple abandoned 3d touch though, I wonder why? My guess is, no one used it.
