Big gamer myself and have a PS5 and Xbox series X and I agree with your comments. I have a Samsung 4K tv and it does get very dark in some games especially those set at night. .
You can make a LED sort of mimic OLED by putting the HDMI black level on low and yup.... Can't see shit! 😂 Colors do look slightly better and improves viewing angles too or at least it does on my q70t. Never experienced an actual OLED tho, so I guess I'll vote LED too.
Thank you so much for this! I am also a big gamer myself and am trying to find the best tv at an affordable price! To go with my Xbox series x to play forza 5 :)
100% agree. Every reviewer on UA-cam seems to be getting kickbacks to pump up OLED. But in every side-to-side, LEDs outperform in brightness, which is most evident in side by side comparisons of snow scenes. Every OLED TV makes snow look gray. I don't want to watch a football game at Lambeau field in December and the snow doesn't look white. Contrast is great...until it can't allow for brightness.
8:48 Although the green look stronger (lack of a better word) on the OLED on the left. The thing is, the LCD on the right gives more color variance and tone.. Look closely. The OLED the green looks exactly (well almost) the same on every single leaf. It's like it only has one shade of green. Although vibrant it's limited. The TV on the right shows green, but also various shades of green. Some are slightly darker green, some lighter. That to me is more "accuracy" and true to life reproduction of the image. Both have the same XR processor.. I mean you can see some of the leaves on the X90J are "dying" a little with that yellow look to it.. Very hard to see that on the OLED. Just in the more extreme cases. I find OLED gets too much praise at all times. Even when it's actually NOT doing the correct thing. It boggles my mind how people don't notice this.. Obviously the OLED is the BEST when it comes to contrast and looks fantastic. But it can black crush, it can be dim, it has issues with near perfect black levels (inherent with Organic LED, needing power and heat to light up), and it can show a lack of color gradients/shades and do it more uniformly. That said, I bet the X95J would show the colors even better than the X90J and more vibrant green. BUT still able to show the different shades of dark green, light green and hint of yellow on the leaves.
OLEDs look too blue on camera, especially when next to an LCD tv, making it impossible too judge from videos like these. But I did notice this part as well and the X90J did look far more natural (except this is not how the OLED looks irl)
Lmao first off the loess have a far bigger range into blacks, meaning it’s not just completely dark or not dark it has full range from complete dark to white meaning better picture. Second off he has standard settings for everything, my Ike’s looks completely different from when stock settings were a factor.
Full array actually showed other colour hues as well in that forest clip. It is not just green but bit of yellowish orange and all; seemed more natural to me. 🙈
Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking, there we're so many other colours on the Full array - it actually looked real rather than fisher price primary green.
I agree. IMO the LED seemed far more natural in most examples including blacks. It seemed the OLED lacked subtlety in blacks, shading. Sharpness seems to favor the OLED though. Seeing them side by side in person is really the only way to tell. My X85J 75” shows up soon!
I just purchased a new 65" TV and chose to go with a full-array LED. Great picture and I don't have to worry about screen burn-in. I went with the Sony X90J.
Great review, I saw both these tv's side by side just last week in a Sony store. I can honestly say this review matches what I saw. I literally couldnt stop staring at the A90, it has an incredible picture, bright, realistic ( see @7:57 ). However, it was £2,.200 !!! Instore the A80J blacks looked fantastic and it had a more cinematic picture. I think ill wait for the A80J in a sale - probaly well into 2023 as its still £1000/1200.
I’m usually late to the game, but recently decided to purchase the A80J vs. the X90K. I’m not pro at TVs, but the rep assisted in the decision. I love the way you explain the differences between OLED vs. Full Array LED! So detailed and easy to understand! Your presentation really help viewers make an informed decision. Thanks so much and look forward to any and all reviews you do in the future!👍🏽😘
It sold me on when viewing the Tv. I have a game room / den that has 3 big front windows and watch and play games during the day mostly. The x90j was the right purchase with full array. It’s super bright and looks extremely powerful in colors and sound. It feels like it has surround sound built in but maybe because of my octagon type room. I personally like brighter pictures and can’t say the OLED wouldn’t be better but for my scenario I’m glad I didn’t go OLED. Ps5 games look outstanding on it.
@@ashbinx replying to your question even though you may have made your decision but I own the x90h and its mind blowing. Deep inky blacks. 120 hz refresh rate and now the vrr update is also given so its ready for next gen gaming. 4k movies look absolutely stunning. Streaming like Netflix in 4k looks amazing too.
Although this video shows some key differences, these kind of comparisons should be filmed with 2 cameras, simply because one is brighter than the other, cameras need to adjust exposure differently, if you perfectly adjust exposure to the led display, since its brighter, the oled is always going to look darker, if the exposure is adjusted to the oled, the led image is going to be over exposed... That said, it's always better to take a look at them by yourself... Yesterday I had the chance to look at the full array led and the contrast and blacks surprised me a lot, I was leaning towards the oled, but these full array got my attention cause they really have very good quality and very nice blacks in a way that I'm considering the full array instead of the oled mainly because of 4 advantages it has: - No risk of burn-in - Less energy consumption - Cheaper price - Better on brighter environments. (Although for home use this is not a real advantage for me and most users cause we can control a room brightesse) Thanks for sharing, nice video 👍
Thanks for this and all of your recent Sony videos, I've been following discussions on 2021 TVs all year as it's going to be my first time purchasing a TV over 22 inches. My last purchase was over 10 years ago so I've never had a FALD TV or an OLED. I've been looking at both the X95J and A80J, both will be an enormous upgrade for me and my main sticking points have been burn in risk vs blooming. I can deal with the lower contrast of LEDs without local dimming but the localised blooming in dark areas, app menus and loading screens will bother me. I've decided to go with the OLED, if I burn it in, lesson learnt and maybe at that time, a new LED technology will be available as a replacement :)
Which degrades slowest and which lasts longer? which gets hotter and how is the heat dissipated? Weight differences, screen and body of the tvs materials used? Great video!
Hi After watching a lot of videos on Televisions and on different models. This has to be probably the best video available covering most apsects of buying a tv. This video would be ideal for someone to watch and get up to date with the new technologies in a tv. Great educational information, down to earth and thoughtful job.
Great comparison. I think it's also important to note again these comparisons were at default settings. My A80J can get much brighter than what is shown here.
I just purchased on Costco the 65' A80J for $2,199 with 5 years extra warranty included. I can't wait for Saturday to receive it. It will be my first OLED TV ever. I just want to experience watching movies in 4k HDR and streaming. I hope you will post some settings.
Thanks for the video. What I'm kind of missing in these types of comparisons is the consideration of users who have their TV hooked up to a computer. Yes, I watch movies, yes, I play games and yes, OLED adds that special something in terms of picture quality. However, I also use it for basically anything else computer related. Besides burn-in concerns, there appears to be an issue of forced automatic dimming whenever an OLED registers areas with a prolonged static picture, which is usually the case while browsing, multitasking, in office application and also some games (static task bars, windows, images etc.). Meaning, the TV will constantly and quite frequently reduce brightness during such activities to protect the screen, forcing you to take some kind of action to trigger the screen to brighten up again. I personally would find that >>quite
im in the market for a tv to do exactly what you are doing with it too lol any recommendations of where i can find more info to make a good choice? i need it to be good for games, movies, etc. but also to use as a computer
Really good non bias Demo, I felt you covered all the pros and cons, with that said, I have always been a plasma lover and now 100% for OLED. Own the A90J
Exactly I Mena I did do led for a bit I was using the Samsung q8 and then I upgraded to the q8fn and then I made the switch to the lg c9 and now I own the a90j and idk how they did it but the hdr is insane the dynamic range is unlike any tv I've ever experienced it has so much punch yet still maintaining its depth it can also hold its saturation at higher brightness unlike oled tvs of the past I just wish more people knew to check the color space half of the comparisons online are false as they are done on the UA-cam app you need to force bt2020 when using the UA-cam app it has a bug where it doesn't do it automatically as it should as Vincent from HDTV test has shown and covered so half of the comparisons where people think the w90j doesn't have as much color is due to it not being in wide while the other tvs are in wide which is insane insane see how good the a90j still did so yeah make sure to force that bt2020 if you sre using apps espeiclsly the UA-cam app when in hdr this tv has sooooo much color its not just accurate it can get all the saturation you want it blew my c9 out of the water if I'm being honest lol
@@reviewforthetube6485 WOW I have a C9 also in my living room. The A90J is in my bedroom. Friends that come over don't see the Sony but they all comment how fantastic the LG is.

This video is only telling you about what Sony offers and I assume so because his real interest is to get you to buy one from him. It's not in his interest to talk about what other manufacturers are offering (such as mini-led). He does a good job but he isn't here just to entertain you but to become your video salesman, thus the reason to only mention Sony specifics without even telling yoou there are other variables in that market
Good comparison. Just shows you can get a good tv even if you can't afford an oled or you are worried about burn in. Last year I went with a mini-led tv because of my bright living room. I've had people ask if it was on oled before inspecting the thickness of the set. But with oled's becoming brighter that may eliminate that problem.
Not only doesn't OLED have that halo around objects, it also doesn't over expose the picture because of that backlight, which is clearly visible from the very first second of the video at the sun setting behind the mountain and on the doll at 6:20 taking out details, not to mention the details lost in dark/night scenes.
Probably cause the x90j is not the best Qled to represent Qleds in this situation.. full array yes but with only 24 large zones. A q90t or a qn90a would not have that kind of blooming. (More zones and better algorithm) OLEDs are far from being king in my opinion lol but they are amazing!
@@sweedishpie360 more zones cause problems aswell because in tricky scenes they have more work to do. You still get blooming which to me after having oled it’s just not an option the infinite contrast itself kills any lcd or qled. Qleds look too bright and unrealistic where as oleds Andre so natural and have deep colours with great HDR pop especially in dark scenes and also bright. I don’t care personally about having super bright TVs my last tv was a qled and whilst that had 1000 nits of brightness hdr it still has blooming and the way I see it is that if you can get black you don’t necessarily need lots of brightness because you aren’t battling with a washed out look like lcd/qled due to hugely lower contrast ratios.
@@你是國王 blooming is highly overblown. Yes there's slight blooming on Qleds but on a flagship Qled, it's next to non existent. Don't know what Qled you had, doubt it was a flagship one. Feel free to visit my channel if you wanna see an example of what a q90t looks like. Tell me if you see any blooming. I find it funny when people say Qleds have unrealistic colors. How about OLEDs with their "true blacks"? Nothing in this world is true black and OLEDs struggle with anything that's near black, resulting in blacks that are crushed. But I get it, it impresses viewers.. As far as washed out looks on a qled, set it up properly and you won't get that washed out look. I much prefer a brighter, punchier display (especially in hdr) than a dim display where you can't see shit in a bright room.
I am planning to purchase a new telly next month. But am torn between the oled and full array led tv. You see we use the tv more on satellite tv subscription and from time to time streaming like Netflix & Amazon Prime. Which tv technology can you recommend based on our usage?
Sony 55" Class XR55X90J vs Sony 55" Class - X90CJ Series Which one is better? I want to buy "SONY 55". Which one would you recommend from both options?
I had a B6 Oled, and last year bought the sony x90h. I watch a lot of movies and game, and I must say, what a difference Oled is to Led. Ive bought the A80J because I just dont enjoy watching movies on a led screen. The picture and detail are incredible. Once you go Oled, you can’t go back to led. That’s my opinion. 2320€ with a 5 year warranty For the 65” version, great product 👍🏻
@@HARDC8RE_MAMMOTH I was wondering if I should pull the trigger, but a bit afraid of the "burn in effect". Im probably watching 25% scope content and 75% in 16:9
@@renascent88 Hi, I don’t watch regular tv channels, only streaming series, movies or blu ray 4k. The Oled issues have almost vanished, LG has better implantations to prevent burn in imo, I have the C1 too, but Sony has an image for movies excellent. Btw, I got the 77” A80J and the C1 55”. Both good tvs, but LG doesn’t allow you to change the gamma in Dolby Vision, tends to get a bit dark, but Sony allows you to change everything. If you watch varied content, you wont get Burn in. Hope to have helped 😊
6:13 Even though OLED can do perfect contrast ratio. It still suffers because it's too dim.. Just look at the time stamp and pause it.. The color of the chopper and the whole image is extremely dim compared to the X90J FALD. So it's "advantage" isn't always much of one, because it cannot get bright enough. OLED can look fantastic. But I myself prefer more brightness. Blooming is only ever noticeable on a good FALD if its in total darkness. If you have some ambient lighting/bias Lighting. Blooming is basically non-existent in normal content. It's only in game load screens or menus/overlays where blooming can appear. And even then it's often not visible when you have ambient lighting, unless egregiously bad example. So the talk of "blooming" is exaggerated and only ever present in UA-cam reviewer videos with cranked camera "ISO" and then almost always showing off TVs in totally dark room. Meaning it's deceptive and not in line with how most people, especially people buying an FALD LED TV would use it. It's clear in this video how the cheaper more budget X90J even beats out the A80J often times in a lit room. Blacks in a lit room to the naked eye looks nearly identical. That's just how our perception is. Because the blackest part is still the blacks on the TV and not your environmental surrounding. This is why you use LED light strip bias lighting with LCD TV especially if you want to view in a dark room. I love Sony processing so can't go wrong with any Sony XR TV IMO.. A80/90J looks fantastic, but an X95J in a lit room with much higher brightness for HDR will be better IMO. The OLEDs simply cannot reach it.. But in a dark room. The OLEDs win hands down.. So ultimately it comes down to: Do you sit in a dark room and watch all content in a dark room and no worries about burn in. Go with OLED. If you sit in a room with some light or even really bright light and want brighter HDR. Go FALD LED (only good ones of course).
I notice blooming in lots of cases on LCD TVs. Yes, OLED is brighter but unless I was watching in a REALLY bright room I'd turn down the brightness on a LCD anyways. OLEDs aren't ideal for REALLY bright rooms but you don't have to be in a dark room for them to be better than LCD. I currently have a LG 1080p OLED from 2014. Even set to 70% brightness it's bright enough. The current model OLEDs get much brighter than the one I have now. I just ordered an A80J. Can't wait for delivery.
Disagree totally. The colors are more accurate on an OLED. You’re used to bright and cartoony looking images, where as the OLED looks far more accurate and natural. It takes a bit to get used to coming form and LED but now they look terrible compared to my OLED
Blooming might not always be noticeable but the lack of contrast definitely is. Even walking into a bright store an oled always catches my eyes which the LCDs just never do.
Except it’s really not. Especially when both are calibrated. Anybody reviewer who has both will tell you that. The only time the A90 is visibly brighter is in vivid mode. And during highlights of SOME HDR content, not all.
It 100 percent is even calibrated John just covered this from value electronics you know the calibrator that calibrated the tvs for the US shootout every year he said the a90j is brighter in the smaller highlights and it's def noticeable it's one of the onpy oled tvs noticeable hell Vincent from HDTV test just covers how much brighter then a90j is then any oled he's seen it has the most impactful hdr he's seen sure the a80j is close and similar but the a90j will be brighter on his end just like everyone else's was even b the installer saw it with his a90j in the comparison was still brighter then his a80j in hdr and yes his was calibrated it's boosting the highlights luckily Vincent checked it next to a reference monitor and it wasn't needlessly brightening things he said it's the closest any oled has gotten so thats huge imo
@@reviewforthetube6485 I’ve watched every reviewer who’s compared both. from Vincent, down to quantum, & even from newcomers like tech with KG. They all say The A90 is brighter yes. But not by that much. It even has a more aggressive ABL than the a80 does. In most real world content you can’t really notice the difference. It’s only noticeable depending on the content. You only truly notice the difference when it comes to HDR content. But for regular things like SDR and sports the difference is negligible. Unless you have then right next to each other. And even then it’s not that much brighter.

I currently have a sonos arc and I am seriously considering the 65 inch a80j. However, I am concerned about being able to put the sound bar in front of the TV. Atm, mounting is not an option. How did you have the sonos arc set up with the a80j in the video? Is it just sitting on top of the a80j legs? Is it safe that way? Or Is the sound bar stand option wide enough to fit the sonos arc? Excellent presentation and very useful! However, you said that the 2 screens behind you have just 'straight from the box settings'. Therefore, I wonder how much the differences would merge with a bit of tweaking with the settings ie slightly brighten the OLED, etc., Also, although the contrast is great on the OLED, I did notice that often the LED seemed to be showing more picture detail. Is this simply a setting issue, ie maybe slightly drop the factory set contrast on the OLED? This would be my major concern because I have found some Blu-ray vids unwatchable compared to the normal DVD due to their high contrast level (Black Hawk Down springs to mind). I get the contrast issue, but am concerned about the depth of blacks swamping the detail.
That was very thorough. Thank you. We are already hooked on the Sony Bravia. We are finally replacing our 2000 model with the glass frame and built in speakers. The colors are finally fading in and out. I recommend the Sony Bravia and brag on our 23 year old TV all the time. Thank you Sony

Modern technology is improving fast and on OLED it will be very very hard for you to create a burn in. You have to really abuse your TV. On LED burn-in is impossible.
I disagree I’ve had normal use on a few-year-old old lead and the super simple and Netflix logos are totally burned in just long enough for there to be no warranty
The X90J certainly doesn't look bad, in fact it looks very good but the A80J just looks so much better. Everything from the colours to the contrast in the videos look more realistic across the board. I am viewing this from a OLED myself however, so not sure if that makes a lot of difference.
The full array tv has wider colour. Looking at the jungle on the oled just looks green. The full array has much more tones that look closer to reality.
Must be my particular set of eyes but even in bestbuy I have looked and looked at OlED right next to led and it just seems like the OLED is the same but with brightness turned down. Maybe I am lucky in this regard as I dont have to pay the extra couple grand like you fellas.

Literally default settings. This TV is not great without going into the menu, THEN it's a whole different story.
Lmao first off the loess have a far bigger range into blacks, meaning it’s not just completely dark or not dark it has full range from complete dark to white meaning better picture. Second off he has standard settings for everything, my Ike’s looks completely different from when stock settings were a factor.
Absolutely Brilliant video!!!
IIRC OLED should be able to show more colours. It also highly depend on the setting used while showing the video he did.
@@Masterfighterx not entirely true, colors volume directly associated with brightness.
I agree. IMO the LED seemed far more natural in most examples including blacks. It seemed the OLED lacked subtlety in blacks, shading. Sharpness seems to favor the OLED though. Seeing them side by side in person is really the only way to tell. My X85J 75” shows up soon!

Yesterday I had the chance to look at the full array led and the contrast and blacks surprised me a lot, I was leaning towards the oled, but these full array got my attention cause they really have very good quality and very nice blacks in a way that I'm considering the full array instead of the oled mainly because of 4 advantages it has:
- No risk of burn-in
- Less energy consumption
- Cheaper price
- Better on brighter environments. (Although for home use this is not a real advantage for me and most users cause we can control a room brightesse)
Thanks for sharing, nice video 👍
Good point on exposure.
@ 7:10 was what I was looking for, in particular, about ambient light affecting picture quality in OLED
You won't burn it in, that whole thing is overblown. Congrats on the OLED!
Which degrades slowest and which lasts longer? which gets hotter and how is the heat dissipated? Weight differences, screen and body of the tvs materials used? Great video!

Excellent video. In fact, the best I've found.

@petermaz, you have burn in issues ?
It's just the Sony. That's why rting rates the qn90a higher
Oled don’t have a backlight.
@@tonynittoli4792 I know, I think it's easily missunderstood, it's meant as it doesn't over expose because it doesn't have backlight.

Oled is just pure beauty. Enjoy the a80j I love my CX👍🏻
Probably cause the x90j is not the best Qled to represent Qleds in this situation.. full array yes but with only 24 large zones. A q90t or a qn90a would not have that kind of blooming. (More zones and better algorithm)
OLEDs are far from being king in my opinion lol but they are amazing!

Thank you. One question what is better 2022 oled xr65a83k or 2024 full array led Xr6593k what do you think?
Great job breaking it down
6:13 Even though OLED can do perfect contrast ratio.
So ultimately it comes down to:
Do you sit in a dark room and watch all content in a dark room and no worries about burn in.
Can't wait for delivery.
yes, there are no details in near black areas (black crush ?)
Disagree totally. The colors are more accurate on an OLED. You’re used to bright and cartoony looking images, where as the OLED looks far more accurate and natural. It takes a bit to get used to coming form and LED but now they look terrible compared to my OLED
Well spoken!!
Thank you!
Blooming might not always be noticeable but the lack of contrast definitely is. Even walking into a bright store an oled always catches my eyes which the LCDs just never do.

@@AllisonRoadWest Numerically yes but in real life experience No. I have an LG C1(used by me) a Sony X900H(used by my wife)and a Samsung Nu7100(used by my eldest son) We all feel the jump from the Nu7100(Edge lit IPS) to sony 900h( VA Full Array) feels bigwe than from the 900h(VA Full array) to the LG C1(OLED)(which is still noticeable) It's simply the law of diminishing returns.
@@007GoldenLion which one would u prefer sir between these 3 models
@@indianhomegymequipment3424 OLED is the beat no contest. Full array is good enought if you cant afford an OLED... i just can no longer recomend edge lit tvs
What about screens for smaller rooms?
can you do a rewiew on kd-65"x89j thanks in advance 😀
Great explanation, very clear and simple.
the problem for oled is, that almost no content is colorgraded on oled display. that means, the pitch black in scenes arent mean to be pitch black. its a rare case you have scenes with real blacks. oftern, in dark scenes there are details in blacks(a little bit of gray), but on oled you cant see nothing. thats why no one working on oled when it comes to color.
Skip oled for now? I am going crazy trying to decide lol
@@houstontx6780 nah when you want nice contrast and colors , go for oled. But if you want bright image, colors that meant to be how the colorgrader ment than go for led. I had problem in some scene to find something in the dark playing ps5 on a lg cx oled because the dark was way too dark. Switched to sony xh95 now i see everything lol. And oled start burn in from year 3.
Nice information brother thanks 👍
85" X95J or 77" A80J ? Both very similar, which one would you choose?
Hi Nick, great comparison. It does depend on your room and whether you need that extra size however in most cases I would choose quality over size. Especially as the step up from the X95J to the A80J is from LED to OLED. The colours pop so much more and the experience is that much more cinematic. I hope this helps! Cheers, Jonathan
Proud owner of a 65" A80J OLED
What about Qled where do they stand among Full array ,Oled and Dled
can you make a comparison between full array vs mini led ??
How does Sony KD85X91CJ compare with Sony OLED TVs? We found KD85X91CJ with $2200 price in Costco. We are looking for ~85 inch TV and watch movies most time at night. OLED doesn't seems have ~85 inch TV? Thanks & regards.
Does it have Google play store
I have a question. What is the better option for home tv (movies, netflix, prime, some PlayStation light gaming. SONY KD75XH9096 BAEP or SONY KD 75 X81JCEP. Thanks
I would like to see the 83 A90J against the 85 Z9J.
does OLED produce more pitch black than VA panel?
